Dinner is botan nabe made with Shiga-prefecture wild boar and plenty of seasonal Shiga vegetables. The boar meat is prized for its rich lean flavor and sweet, clean-tasting fat. It’s satisfyingly hearty yet surprisingly light on the finish. To end the meal, choose either udon noodles or rice porridge (zosui). Enjoy every warming last bite to your preference. For the sauna experience, you can enjoy two types: the “Tea Sauna” and the “Earth Sauna.” Be enveloped in aroma with löyly using Asamiya tea—Japan’s oldest tea—then unwind in Kansai’s first earthbag-built “Earth Sauna,” soothed by nature’s breath and the warmth of a wood fire. Fire, earth, fragrance, and breeze—enjoy a one-of-a-kind moment of deep reset born from Shigaraki’s land. ■ Sauna Tea Sauna (electric) Asamiya tea leaves with 1,200 years of history are roasted and used as a special löyly water. Each pour releases rising steam and a toasty aroma that feels like being surrounded by tea fields. Enjoy a moment of oneness with nature in a space overlooking Shigaraki’s mountain ridges. Earth Sauna (wood-burning stove) A sustainable sauna built using Kansai’s first earthbag construction method. Designed with inspiration from climbing kilns and made by reusing discarded clay from Shigaraki-yaki artists. Gentle far-infrared heat from the wood flame warms you through to your core.
