- Otaru Retreat Kuramure
In a serene space where Otaru’s history lives on, enjoy a relaxing moment filled with gourmet cuisine and Onsen.
A sanctuary of quiet within a kura storehouse. A retreat stay in Otaru, Hokkaido, with 19 rooms—each with a private Onsen bath. Otaru is a town shaped by the legacy of Kitamaebune trading ships. The clear air of Asarigawa Onsen and the satoyama landscapes that shift with the seasons embrace visitors in deep tranquility. All 19 rooms, designed by architect Makoto Nakayama around the theme of “stillness,” feature natural hot-spring baths. Enjoy a full range of bathing options, including an enzyme bath supervised by Otaka Kohso—an Otaru tradition for over 100 years—as well as private Onsen and sauna facilities. Savor cuisine that layers fermentation techniques onto Hokkaido ingredients, along with carefully selected drinks including Hokkaido wines.
A long-awaited stay at the warehouse complex.I stayed here on a trip with a wine-loving friend. All of the staff were very warm and welcoming, and we felt comfortable throughout our stay.At the bar we visited in the evening, they shared some fun facts about Hokkaido wines. What stood out most was how much we enjoyed chatting with the staff.I would love to stay again.
ゲスト 7/7/2026I’d been curious because it’s an architectural work by Makoto Nakayama, and I heard it had reopened after a renovation this year, so I decided to stay.It was a wonderful Accommodation that felt comfortable throughout my stay and made me want to visit again.I used the in-room Onsen many times and was able to relax without worrying about the time. The all-inclusive offerings were also excellent, and I really appreciated being able to enjoy recommended Tohoku sake, Hokkaido wine, Yoichi juice, and light snacks without hesitation. In the dining room, I had a creative kaiseki meal made with local ingredients—it was a truly satisfying evening. The quiet Onsen and drinks enjoyed inside the kura storehouse atmosphere, along with the warm service from all the staff—everything was completely satisfying. I love visiting when the greenery is beautiful, but I heard there are Rooms where you can see autumn leaves, and photos of snow piled up outside the Room windows look so appealing that I’d like to return in another season. Thank you very much.
