Aso Retreat HONO by Onko Chishin
Kumamoto Prefecture/Aso District[Opening November 2, 2026] A stay to rediscover your natural senses and trace back to primal memories
One of the world’s largest calderas and grasslands shaped by a thousand years of controlled burning. Nature here is not just something to admire. Discover, pick, and taste plants and nuts for yourself in a foraging experience. A stay themed around “restoring our humanity,” born from time spent within this cycle and a dialogue with the land, begins here. All 17 rooms feature private Onsen baths, and select rooms include a sauna—quiet time to step away from everyday life with the Aso mountains before you. Water that springs up in Aso becomes rivers and eventually flows into the sea of Amakusa— Inspired by this cycle, our course menu: “Aso Primitive Gastronomy.” As if tracing back primal memories, long-forgotten senses slowly awaken.

Introduction of the Accommodation
The distance to nature—just as it is. What Aso reveals is that harmony. The experiences that flow through this land connect into a single line, guiding you on a journey that traces the memory of the place.

A land that holds ancient memories. A boundary where people and nature blend into one.
Aso is a place where volcanoes and people have resonated, weaving a thousand years of history. Step into the fields of Aso and you’ll find an “original experience” that connects you to the very roots of the land. The sun purifies the earth, the black soil drinks in the rain, and tender greens begin to sprout. When you pause within this cycle, your senses awaken and you rediscover your true self. A moment to touch an endless story shaped by both land and people.
