    A Relaxing Stay

The bath was wonderful, and the footbath while enjoying the view was especially relaxing. There was a great variety of food, and everything was fun and delicious. Above all, I really appreciated the free drinks! Thanks to the thoughtful staff, I was able to spend a very comfortable time.

    It is a wonderful Hotel.

This was an Onsen trip with my 15-month-old grandchild. The Japanese-Western style Room with a beautiful view of Lake Ashi was clean and very comfortable. Although this Hotel has many international staff and guests, all the staff provided pleasant service. Breakfast and dinner were both buffet-style, with a wide variety of options, and we were especially surprised by the extensive dessert selection. Drinks were also included as part of the all-inclusive plan. Our Room was close to the restaurant and the large public bath, but since the building is quite large, some Rooms can be a fair walk away, so I recommend that elderly guests request a Room closer to these facilities.

An Accommodation with Stunning Views and Excellent Transportation Access

A well-known Accommodation featured in TV commercials. A comfortable Hotel aimed at the “upper-middle” segment, supported by a highly efficient operating system. A few points of concern: 1) The Facility consists of three connected buildings, but guidance for moving between them is insufficient, so many guests get lost. 2) There is no guidance to the Room after check-in and no luggage assistance (it should be available at least upon request). 3) The open-air bath tub in the Room is far too small. It’s better than nothing, but it feels misleading. 4) Check-out is at 10:00. This is something I haven’t encountered much recently. 5) There is no café option (for a light bite), such as when arriving early.

The dinner and breakfast selection is far too limited.

There were relatively many foreign staff members, and it was hard to understand them… The Facility was nice, but dinner and breakfast fell far short of expectations, which was very disappointing… In particular, the staff also looked sleepy, which really dampened my mood. As for breakfast, it had the fewest options of any Accommodation I’ve stayed at, which was disappointing. The Facility was clean, so I hope things will improve.

    It has changed.

This was my first time staying here, but the bamboo basket meal featured in an IKYU article was not provided, and both check-in and check-out were unattended. The shower head in the Room was coming loose. Even after I informed the staff, many of them were from overseas and did not seem to understand. When I asked the friend who recommended this place, they said it seems to have changed significantly, possibly due to inbound tourism measures. They told me that the meals used to be beautifully presented and the service used to be good. Now there is hardly any opportunity to interact with staff at all, and there was nothing that could be called service. I also think IKYU’s article from a few years ago should be corrected. It turned into a very disappointing trip.

Please take care when going out on foot on rainy days.

We enjoyed our stay, and we were very satisfied with both the Room and the meals (buffet). The lobster risotto at dinner was especially outstanding. The desserts, supervised by a renowned chef as expected, were all meticulously crafted and delicious. However, there was an issue at the exit when walking out toward Togendai Station. The suitcase ramp beside the stairs outside the Ryokan noren is paved with stone, and I slipped and fell. Fortunately, I avoided a worst-case outcome. A stone-paved ramp that becomes slippery when wet seems likely to cause accidents, so I would appreciate improvements. (Safety is more important than appearance.) If not for this point it would have been a perfect score; this was the only disappointment.

    Service that is not ...

Service that is not worth the price at all. The front desk and restaurant staff were courteous, but is this really acceptable for an Orix Hotel? Dust had accumulated on the amenities, and under the bed was terrible. With a water purifier installed there was no complimentary mineral water, the Room was small, and the bed felt cheap. There’s hardly anywhere to put your luggage. Hospitality only slightly above a Business Hotel. The food was average. At the large public bath, staff start cleaning from 30 minutes before closing—even while guests are still bathing. The operation clearly prioritizes overseas guests. Above all, I want them to enforce proper cleaning standards. This has nothing to do with having foreign staff or not. I have never been this disappointed with a Hotel booked through IKYU. Shouldn’t you reconsider listing this Hotel? I’m also disappointed in IKYU—no, quite disappointed.

My college-aged daughter and I stayed for one night. The Accommodation was very clean, and the staff were extremely kind and helpful. In the large public bath, not only towels and amenities but also facial devices and a new type of hair dryer were provided, allowing us to relax even after bathing. The buffet-style meals were all delicious, and there was a wide variety of desserts. Our favorite was the Hanaori cream puff. We also appreciated the thoughtful touch of providing cute arm bands to help keep our loungewear clean during meals. The footbath while looking out over the lake was enjoyable as well, making for a very satisfying stay. We would love to stay again.

We stayed here for a family trip with our baby.

We visited Hakone for our first family trip since our child was born, and stayed here again for the first time in two years as a family of three with our 9-month-old baby. The Japanese-Western Deluxe Room we stayed in was very clean and spacious—large enough for our baby to crawl around the tatami area and lie down to play. It was even more comfortable than we expected. As requested in advance, you also prepared a baby crib, baby bath, and a diaper trash bin, which was a huge help when traveling with an infant. The food was delicious, and overall we were very satisfied. However, there was one disappointing point. We had confirmed on your website that ready-made baby food is available for various age stages, and we were told the same when we called before making our Reservation. So this time we went to the restaurant without bringing baby food for dinner or breakfast. In reality, what was available that day was only early-stage rice porridge and corn (see attached photo). When we asked a staff member, we were told it was out of stock, which was disappointing. Our child is at a later stage of weaning, so the early-stage options were not really suitable. As a result, we couldn’t provide an adequate meal. During dinner, we had to look for items our child might be able to eat and cut food into smaller pieces, which made it difficult for us to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. At breakfast, the staff kindly did what they could—for example cooling down the porridge in advance—and we truly appreciated it. Still, because it wasn’t appropriate at this age to share adult-seasoned dishes from our plates, not being able to fully satisfy our child’s meal needs was the only lingering regret from this stay. Based on this experience, next time we will bring extra baby food just in case. Other than that issue, everyone provided attentive service and helped us relax throughout our stay. We believe this is an Accommodation where families with babies can stay with peace of mind. It remains our favorite Accommodation in Hakone, and we would love to return again.

    Disappointed

As soon as I entered the Room, I found several hairs on the floor. The edge of the bathroom drain was darkened, and it felt like the cleaning was not thorough, which made it feel unhygienic. I chose a Room advertised as having a view of Lake Ashi, but since it was on the second floor, I could barely see it. We arrived around 5:00 PM, and were told that dinner buffet reservations were required. When I opened the Reservation screen right away, only 8:00 PM slots were available, which was very difficult for us with children. It felt like a Hotel catering mainly to inbound tourists. I wanted to relax and enjoy the Onsen, but the loud atmosphere made me deeply regret choosing this Hotel. The Hotel we stayed at the night before—at almost the same Accommodation Fee—was excellent, so I was shocked by how big the difference was. Dinner buffet: neither the sashimi nor sushi seemed high quality, and the meat was tough. However, alcohol was all-you-can-drink, so it may be a good deal for those who drink.

    Excellent.

This was our second stay. Once again, the meals and the Onsen were excellent. It’s an Accommodation that is very welcoming to families with children, and we would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

A comfortable stay and a highly satisfying meal

The staff were very kind, and our stay was comfortable from arrival to departure. The meals were among the best buffet-style dining we’ve ever had—especially the seafood at dinner, which was excellent across the board. Breakfast also offered a wide variety, and we were very satisfied. The drinks available in the lobby were a nice extra, and the coffee was particularly delicious.

    First stay.

This was my first time staying here. I had high expectations as it is part of the ORIX Group. Having stayed at Karaku before, I felt this was a more casual Hotel. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style, and I enjoyed the wide variety of dishes. The staff service was also very good. The large public bath was spacious and nice, but I wished the powder Room were a bit larger. The guest Room had only a shower booth, which was not very convenient to use. The Room layout also felt unbalanced and made it seem small, although the view from the Room was great. Considering the facilities in the guest Room, the pricing felt a little high. The Room also felt quite dry.

    For a retirement celebration

I stayed here for the first time with my 2-year-old child to celebrate my aunt’s retirement. What I especially appreciated was the free shuttle bus—it made getting to Odawara very smooth! Taking a regular bus with a 2-year-old would have been tough. The dinner buffet had a great variety and we were very satisfied. One concern was that the walkway to the Room had no roof, and it rained heavily that day, so my child and I got wet on the way back (there were umbrellas, though). It felt quite slippery and scary… lol Other than that, it became a wonderful memory for us.

    Stay at Hakone Hanaori.

First of all, the hospitality of the staff was truly comforting. Throughout our stay, we felt the Hotel’s warm thoughtfulness in many ways. When we passed staff members in the hallway, they would stop and gently gesture for us to go first with a quiet smile. We also enjoyed the meals. Everything was carefully seasoned, and both my husband and I found it delicious. The beef, Yamagata rice, grilled eel (kabayaki), octopus, and fish were all excellent. Even the small dessert cakes felt lovingly made. The open-air bath under the moonlight became one of our most wonderful memories. Thank you very much.

The food, drinks, and desserts are all delicious. The Shuttle Service bus is very convenient.

This was my second stay. This time it was a trip with three women, so we used the bus, which was very convenient. Because it took the Shindo route, there was no traffic, and we enjoyed chatting along the way. The Room was clean as well, and this time a water purifier had been installed, so we felt comfortable drinking the water. One disappointment: in the triple Room, one bed is a sofa bed, but the part you sit on sinks down, so even when sleeping your body tilts. I would have preferred regular futons instead of a sofa bed, so I hope this can be improved. Other than that, we were very satisfied and will come again.

The downside was that the Room was far away, which was difficult for a pregnant guest.

The food was truly delicious, and the outdoor views often seen on social media were also incredibly beautiful. I’m so glad I was finally able to visit Hanaori!! However, because there are so many rooms, we were assigned one at the very end, and going back and forth from the lobby while carrying luggage was a bit tough for me as I’m pregnant. Everything is quite far away, so I had to ask my husband even to go to the vending machines. I wanted to use the Onsen too, but just thinking about having to walk that distance again made it feel daunting, so I debated until the last minute and only took a short bath. Once our baby is born, it seems like the Facility is well equipped in many ways, so we’d love to visit again after the birth!

Improvements to heating in the corridors connecting the entire building and to check-in access via Shuttle Service bus.

I would like to share a few improvement points related to the weather. First, when checking in at the Hotel after arriving on the Shuttle Service bus just after 12:00, the lobby was packed with passengers waiting to board the return bus for their trip home. Since check-in is not until 15:00, there were no seats available for guests who had nowhere to go, and it was upsetting to see people wandering around looking for a place to sit. Second, after check-in, the heating in the corridors connecting the entire building was far too weak, and it was so cold on the way to the large public bath and meals that I felt like I might catch a cold. These concerns would not exist if the weather were good, but on our stay it was mostly cloudy and cold, and we couldn’t really go outside at all, so it bothered me somewhat. It also made me wonder how you handle things during heavy snowfall. Because your TV commercials show such appealing scenes, I think many guests arrive looking forward to their stay. We did as well, but we were disappointed by the atmosphere as soon as we arrived. I hope these two points can be improved promptly. The milky-white hot spring water in the large public bath and the buffet meals were very good. The desserts in particular offered a wide variety that children would love, and for those who enjoy alcohol there is an excellent all-you-can-drink service with many options. If I may ask for one more thing, it would have been perfect if there had been a station where tempura is fried fresh on site. Overall, I felt that customer service and staff support were good.

I have some concerns, which is a bit disappointing.

I have stayed here many times since you opened, and I am always grateful to be able to spend such a wonderful time here each visit. However, on this occasion there were two things that concerned me, so I would like to share them here. Right after checking in and entering the Room, I found an interdental brush on the washbasin in a very obvious spot. If something in that location was overlooked, it makes me a little uneasy about the cleaning. Also, during dinner, there was a male staff member grilling steaks—slightly older, tall, and slim. When I politely said, “I’m sorry, but the dish of garlic chips is empty—could I have some more?” he did not say anything and gave a half-smile while continuing to grill. After a while he said “Please wait,” went to get more garlic chips from the back, then placed them down on the counter forcefully without saying anything or making eye contact. What was that about? This is directed at the staff member who was grilling steaks around 5:45 PM on Friday, February 13. It truly made me feel very uncomfortable. It is disappointing because I have always been able to stay comfortably until now. All of your other staff work very hard and are consistently pleasant—I am always impressed by them.

    The Room is far away.

I made a Reservation expecting the Orix Hotel Group standard (a Room with an open-air bath), but the distance from the front desk to the Room was very long. It would have been helpful to have guidance in advance, such as a floor map. With a lot of luggage, it was inconvenient. I wish there had been a dedicated check-in counter. I tried to book dinner right after check-in (3:00 PM), but it was already almost fully booked. The only available times were 5:45 PM and 8:15 PM. I asked at the venue entrance why I couldn’t make a Reservation there, but I received only an apology with no clear explanation. Very disappointing. I had various expectations, but it didn’t suit me. I won’t use it again.

It was a great learning experience.

This was probably my fifth stay. The last time I visited was about a year ago, also during a cold season. At that time, you welcomed me and helped carry my luggage. This time, I called ahead to let you know I would arrive late due to an accident-related traffic jam. Even so, when I arrived around 7:00 p.m., the area in front of the entrance had not been cleared of snow. I had to carry heavy luggage through slushy snow, there was no welcome, and the check-in felt very matter-of-fact—something like “This is your second stay or more, right?” It ended quickly, and I even had to ask myself what time dinner could be served. Maybe it was a new staff member, but since I also work in the service industry, I felt it would have been appropriate at least to say something like, “Thank you for coming despite the poor conditions underfoot.” There were many things that stood out to me. This experience made me decide that next time I will pay more and choose a place with better service. I learned a lot from this in many ways. The bath was good.

We stayed here for a special anniversary trip.

I used this Hotel because I was able to stay at a great early-booking rate. The Room was clean, and the meals were better than expected, so I was very satisfied. The bath steamer, Dyson hair dryer, and yukata were also great. There weren’t any special extra touches of hospitality, but the location was convenient—close to Owakudani and Lake Ashi—and the footbath was nice as well. If there is one area for improvement, it would be the long wait at check-in and improving dinner time reservations. We arrived at the Hotel around 12:00, but there were no available dinner slots after 18:15. However, overall I am very satisfied. Thank you very much.

Was it because I stayed at a low price? The buffet was disappointing and crowded. My Reservation time was late (19:00). Even though I checked in after 3:00 PM, the food selection was disappointing. The breakfast buffet was average. The Room and Facility were good for the price.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

I found a great Plan and made a Reservation a month in advance, a bit worried about snow. With snow in the forecast I considered taking the train or bus, but in the end I drove and had no issues at all. Just as rumored, it’s a new and spotless Hotel, which immediately lifted my mood. The views of Lake Ashi from the lobby and my Room were wonderful—so much so that people even lined up to take photos in the lobby. The large public bath was spacious and very clean. Towels are provided, so you can enjoy it without bringing anything. The buffet had plenty of variety and tasted great, and I was happy with the all-you-can-drink option, but it did feel crowded at times, which was a bit disappointing. There were quite a few international guests (and staff), as you’d expect in Hakone—though given recent circumstances, maybe this is still on the low side? The Wi-Fi connection was poor and needs improvement.
