    Fully satisfied

    As an onsen enthusiast who travels across the whole country every month, visiting over 300 accommodations (some multiple times), I was amazed to find such a wonderful onsen ryokan just 20 minutes from my home. Truly a hidden gem! Everything about this place is exceptional, and I am extremely satisfied. Repeat visit guaranteed!

    Omi Beef Feast

    First time at Ogoto Onsen! Stayed with the Omi Beef Course. We brought my elderly mother, so we booked a room with an onsen. The water quality was excellent, and we were able to relax in the room. However, the view was disappointing! No sight of Lake Biwa and it felt far away—such a shame! The meal featured Omi beef, and the steak was absolutely delicious! But then came shabu-shabu... While it truly was an Omi beef feast, the portions were a bit too much. A more balanced course with moderate portions would be ideal. I’d love to visit Lake Biwa again for a relaxing trip!

    I decided to visit Ogoto Onsen as I had never stayed there before. The room was slightly smaller than it appeared in the photos. The onsen in the room had smooth, pleasant water. However, the grilled dishes during the meal were cold, which was disappointing... On the other hand, the Yumotokan's special sweet corn dressing for salads was incredibly delicious. I ended up buying a lot of it as souvenirs to take home.

    Celebrating a Parent's 80th Birthday

    This is my third stay at this accommodation. Last time, I stayed in the Akai room where pets are allowed. This time's room plan is after three years, and it seems to have been renovated during that period. Both the food and onsen were excellent. However, compared to three years ago, I felt that there were fewer snacks in the room, and it was disappointing that there was no decaf option for the coffee maker. I wanted to drink coffee at night but gave up. Although there was decaf coffee powder available in the lounge, it seemed to run out quickly without being restocked. I would have preferred a capsule-type coffee maker over powder options. Since the accommodation price is not particularly cheap... They kindly gifted us champagne for a birthday celebration! The meals were delicious both morning and evening, leaving us full and satisfied. Even my parents, who usually leave food behind, finished everything served—it made me very happy. As a Diamond member making this reservation, we could enjoy a private bath comfortably; my father especially appreciated it. We also made good use of check-in and check-out times efficiently. The shuttle service covering Ogoto Station, Sakamoto Station (JR), Keihan Sakamoto Station (Keihan Line), and Cable Sakamoto was extremely convenient and helpful. It turned out to be a memorable trip with my parents—I'm truly delighted!

    Delicious Cuisine

    We stayed as a group of 9. This was our second stay. The accommodation has been renovated and the interior was very clean. There were many baths, and we enjoyed trying different ones. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were very delicious. One person in our group felt unwell, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for your kind assistance in handling the situation.

    The room layout is inconvenient.

    I visit twice a year. This time, I stayed on the luxury floor of Yashiroi, which has been newly renovated. When I was shown to the room and given an explanation, I was surprised. The reason being that the open-air bath and shower booth in the room were almost diagonally opposite each other. This setup is very inconvenient. To take a shower and soak in the bathtub, you have to pass through two rooms. Reluctantly, I had to put on a gown after showering and walk to the bathtub. I had high expectations for this new room, but it was a bit disappointing. However, as always, the cuisine never fails to amaze me! Not only is it delicious, but each dish presented with the chef's incredible sense of artistry is truly remarkable. Additionally, they adjust the pace of serving dishes according to our eating speed, which enhances our appetite and ensures we finish everything every time. Next time, I'll choose a standard room at Yashiroi with a shower booth located next to the bath for convenience!

    Pre-Birthday Trip

    It was my first stay in years, and as always, the accommodation was perfect with excellent baths, delicious cuisine, and outstanding service. I had the chance to use the private bath twice, and when I mentioned that my birthday was approaching, they even offered me complimentary champagne. Being close to Osaka, I would love to visit again.

    The Room was clean a...

    The Room was clean and comfortable. During meals, the staff kindly asked if there was anything we needed, which was very thoughtful. Previously, the shampoo and conditioner from L'Occitane were in miniature sizes and difficult to use, but now they are in pump bottles, and having two sets of L'Occitane cosmetics prepared was delightful. Having pajamas provided also made it easy to relax.

    The food is delicious, but...

    The strong airflow from the air conditioner caused the solid fuel to burn out quickly, and even with the lid on, the meat for the shabu-shabu did not cook properly. Despite asking a staff member nearby for more solid fuel, it was not brought, and all meals were delayed, leaving us feeling exhausted. It was disappointing as the food itself was delicious.

    Completely satisfied with everything.

    We stayed during Golden Week. Despite arriving just in time for dinner due to traffic, we were warmly welcomed with smiles. The Onsen open-air bath attached to the "Hanare Yashiroi" room was spacious and relaxing, making a one-night stay feel too short. Next time, we would love to enjoy a multiple night stay. The private lounge offered alcohol, snacks, soft drinks, and even Häagen-Dazs ice cream, allowing us to spend an elegant and relaxing time. Above all, the service provided by the staff was exceptional. In particular, the gentleman who served our dinner not only explained each dish but also engaged in conversation with us as a couple, making it a truly blissful experience. While there are many luxury Ryokans and Hotels across the whole country, it is rare to find one where meals are this satisfying. If we lived nearby, this accommodation would be our go-to place for every special occasion. We look forward to visiting again soon.     Have a great trip!

    The exterior may feel slightly dated, but the interior, including the rooms, is well-maintained and clean, providing a sense of comfort. Amenities are generously provided in both the rooms and the large public bath. We stayed at the annex this time and enjoyed services such as a private footbath, drinks, and ice cream—quite impressive. The Onsen water has a historical charm with a pleasantly smooth texture. The meals were flawless; however, despite the effort put into creative dishes and tableware, the serving trays were underwhelming. Improving this aspect would make it perfect. Thank you for your hospitality!

    It was our second time, but unfortunately, it was disappointing.

    We stayed for two nights. The bath and the newly renovated Karoi room were excellent, but the meals and service were very disappointing. Although we had informed in advance via email that my pregnant wife should not be served raw ingredients, this was completely ignored, and she received the same menu as mine. Even after pointing this out, incorrect dishes were served again later during the meal. Additionally, the service was very slow, making us honestly want to leave early. While we did receive an apology afterward, even during breakfast the next day and at checkout, it felt as though they wanted us to leave quickly, which was disheartening. This trip was meant to be our last getaway as a couple before our baby arrives; however, due to such disappointment, we plan to visit somewhere else next time instead. I thought I had found a great ryokan but will not be returning again.

    I had a great time.

    This was my first visit to Ogoto Onsen. From the warm welcome upon arrival, guidance to the room, meal service, souvenir shopping assistance, to the checkout process, every interaction with the accommodation staff was heartfelt and made for a truly wonderful trip. The flowers displayed throughout the facility were beautifully arranged, and everything felt clean and well-maintained. The meals were thoughtfully prepared without being overly elaborate, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through—absolutely satisfying. Navigating to the bath required switching elevators, which was a bit confusing and made me feel like I might get lost; hence my rating is 4 stars. However, this has become one of the accommodations I would love to visit again.

    Satisfied with meals and Onsen

    The meals were thoughtfully prepared, all delicious, and beautifully presented, making for an enjoyable dining experience! The Onsen was at a perfect temperature, allowing for a relaxing soak while enjoying the view. The room was very clean; however, there were a few minor concerns: a lingering smell from the previous male guest, the yukata sizes not fitting well and becoming loose, and the toothbrush bristles coming off during use. Overall though, it was a highly satisfying stay and made for a wonderful trip. I look forward to visiting again!

    I was very shocked.

    I have used this accommodation several times a year for special occasions, enjoying the delicious meals and relaxing in the private open-air baths in the room or reserved ones. It had been my favorite ryokan. However, during my recent stay, after using the open-air bath in my room and changing into a yukata and tanzen to head to dinner, I noticed a rustling sound until I returned to my room. When I checked the pockets of the tanzen, I found two plastic wrappers from hand towels and crumpled paper trash inside. I was shocked and couldn't understand why this happened. Feeling uneasy, I mentioned it at checkout to the front desk staff who responded lightly with "We'll inform our cleaning staff," which only added to my discomfort (I expected an explanation since these items were supposed to be cleaned before use). After returning home, I couldn't stop thinking about whether these garments had been worn by previous guests without being cleaned. Later on, when I called for clarification, a representative confirmed that tanzen are not washed or dry-cleaned unless visibly dirty—just as I'd feared. The thought of wearing something potentially soaked with another person's sweat was extremely unpleasant. Considering that we paid a significant amount for our stay, it's incomprehensible that previously used clothing would be provided without proper cleaning. They explained this has always been their practice—even during COVID-19—which left me utterly speechless. Although they apologized over the phone, there was no immediate assurance of improvement; instead, they said they'd discuss it internally with management. This entire experience has left me deeply shocked and disappointed beyond words. While I'll never stay here again myself, I'm writing this review hoping they'll prioritize cleanliness moving forward as it's fundamental for any accommodation's standards.

    Enjoy a private open-air hot spring bath directly sourced from the spring!

    This onsen is easily accessible from Osaka, and I have stayed in a room with an open-air bath at a ryokan past Ogoto Station three or four times before. This time, we stayed here for the first time to celebrate my wife's birthday. We booked a twin room with an open-air bath, and I was impressed that the natural hot spring water continuously flowed throughout our stay. My wife also mentioned she would like to come back here next time. The bathtub was spacious enough and very comfortable. She was also delighted with the skincare products provided as they were her favorites. For dinner, we enjoyed Omi beef and other dishes in a relaxed dining area (unlike some venues that feel crowded and noisy). While the portion size was just right for me, it seemed a bit much for my wife. The female staff member who attended us mentioned it was her first day but showed great attentiveness—keep up the good work! From check-in to check-out, we had a pleasant stay thanks to all the staff members' hospitality. Thank you very much! We hope to visit again if possible!

    About Meals

    This was my second stay following last year. I only used the open-air bath in the Room. The Ryokan seems to have a long history, but the renovations are well done, and the Room layout and barrier-free accommodations are excellent. The dinner portion was too large compared to my previous visit, which was challenging. It would be even better if there were Plans focusing on quality over quantity for elderly guests (e.g., using higher-quality meat with smaller portions). Additionally, breakfast leaned too heavily towards Japanese cuisine; I wished there were more Western-style Plan options available.

    Enjoy Onsen in your room.

    The private Onsen and the room's Onsen were very satisfying. All the meals were delicious, but personally, I would have preferred if a little sansho pepper was served separately with the eel.

    It was very kind and clean.

    I brought my 94-year-old father. The hospitality was excellent and much appreciated. The meal pace felt a bit rushed, but the meat was tender, and my father almost finished everything. He was very happy, and I’m glad we chose this place! Thank you very much.

    The room's interior was well-designed, and we were satisfied with the service. However, regarding the meals, as an elderly couple, we found the number of dishes and portion sizes to be too much for us to finish. It would have been nice to have options to choose from, as we felt guilty about leaving food uneaten.

    We are a couple in our 60s and repeat guests. This time, we stayed at the Hanare Yashiroi accommodation. The onsen open-air bath in the room was spacious enough for two people to relax comfortably, and we were very satisfied as we could use it even at night. The meals were visually appealing, delicious, and just the right amount for us, making the dining experience equally satisfying.

    Perfect for the whole family!

    I made a reservation at the last minute to show my 94-year-old mother the cherry blossoms around Lake Biwa during their full bloom. Unfortunately, due to the timing, only rooms on the standard floor were available, so we couldn't enjoy a view of Lake Biwa from our room. However, the detached Karoi was exceptional. The temperature of the private open-air bath in our room was adjusted to our preference, and the open-air bath on the 11th floor offered a great view and was very comfortable. We also enjoyed beer while soaking in the footbath at the lounge, which made for a special experience as we relaxed with all four family members together. The creative kaiseki dinner was thoughtfully prepared and genuinely delicious without exaggeration. For breakfast, accommodations were made for my mother with mobility issues by providing wagon service and carefully chosen seating arrangements so she could enjoy it comfortably. The variety of dishes was abundant and matched dinner-level quality. Our favorite dish was freshly fried blackthroat seaperch served with tempura sauce—it was delightful! Although there was some distance to walk to reach the breakfast venue, we created wonderful memories during our stay. Thank you very much!

    I had a pleasant stay.

    The room, which was renovated last year, was clean and well-equipped with amenities, making for a very satisfying stay. Being on the 10th floor, the view from the room was also spectacular. We used the private bath as well, and the Onsen had excellent water quality that was gentle on the skin and provided a relaxing warmth. The drinks in the in-room refrigerator and lounge were complimentary, adding a special touch to our experience. As for meals, the variety of dishes, timing of service, and portion sizes were just right. We were also very pleased with how attentive and accommodating the staff members were.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    I never knew there was such a wonderful accommodation so close to home. Kasumi Ashi is a place where you can spend a special and comfortable time, making it truly satisfying. The room layout is very smooth and extremely comfortable. The design is well thought out, with just the right amount of space to feel relaxed. There are plenty of outlets, and the hidden covers show attention to detail. The view from the corner room offers different charms in the morning, afternoon, and evening—simply beautiful. The bathroom in the room maintains a consistently comfortable temperature with ample water flow, making me want to take multiple baths. The handrails and ideal step height make entering the bath seamless—a feature I particularly appreciated. Additionally, having two pillows allowed for an incredibly restful sleep—very satisfying! And there's even a TV on the ceiling! Truly extraordinary! Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations for the food initially; however, I was amazed by ingredients I had never tried before—all of which were delicious! The fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine was outstanding. Above all else, the smiles and hospitality of your staff were truly first-class for an accommodation like this one. This is definitely an accommodation I would love to revisit again soon! Everything exceeded my expectations—thank you very much!

    The meals allowed us...

    The meals allowed us to enjoy a variety of dishes in small portions, and the quantity was just right. Every dish was delicious, but the freshly cooked rice in the pot was especially delightful, and we were happy to have it for breakfast as well. The long hours of lounge access were much appreciated, the large public bath and room bath were excellent, and the room was clean. It was a wonderful ryokan where we would love to stay again.

    It was excellent.

    I stayed at the newly renovated Accommodation Yashiroi. The room was spacious with a nice view. It also had an open-air bath with high-quality water, allowing me to relax fully. The heated flooring in the bathroom was a pleasant touch during the colder season. The salon was a bit crowded, but it was great that I could take ice cream back to my room. And above all, the meals were exceptional! Everything has been upgraded even more than before. I can imagine how challenging it must be to come up with new ideas continuously, but as a guest, it’s truly delightful. The staff's thoughtfulness and warmth were also wonderful. Yashiroi is simply the best!
