    Everything except the meals was satisfying!

    This was our first stay at Dog Villa Annex Akai. I had informed the accommodation in advance about my pregnancy and received confirmation that meal adjustments could be made. For dinner, the sashimi platter was changed to Omi beef charcoal grill, which I found unusual as it switched from fish to meat dishes. However, the next dish served turned out to be exactly the same as before... The Omi beef charcoal grill was served twice (when I asked a staff member if it was the same dish, they confirmed it was) and I was told to use the same sauce as earlier. I had been looking forward to dinner very much, but having one less menu item just for me felt disappointing. While technically a change had been made, serving the exact same dish twice didn’t seem right—I would have appreciated some variation in preparation methods or presentation. At breakfast, only coffee or tea were offered for post-meal drinks despite having been provided with non-caffeinated options like green tea during welcome drinks earlier on—this left me wondering why there wasn’t consistency here either? Although I could drink coffee without issue this time around (and did), many pregnant guests might actually prefer avoiding caffeine-heavy options like coffee/tea over green tea alternatives altogether. Other aspects of our stay were satisfying overall; however these dining-related disappointments stood out prominently by contrast given how much anticipation surrounded what we’d hoped would become cherished memories ahead-of-birth final trip experience! Hopefully improvements can address such concerns moving forward!

    The satisfaction level was very high, but the amenities were disappointing. In particular, there were two razors provided for the two-person Room, but neither of them worked well and seemed unsafe to use. This is something that needs improvement.

    The staff's service ...

    The staff's service was excellent and impressive. The Room and bathroom were very clean and well-maintained. While the building itself doesn't seem new, the interior appears to have been renovated and was very clean. The meals were delicious, and I would love to visit again when I need a relaxing getaway.

    This is my fourth stay.

    This is a wonderful accommodation, and this time we stayed in two rooms with my grandchild's family who returned to Osaka from Kumamoto during the Obon holiday. Since it was summer vacation and Obon, I don't think it was fully booked. At the game center, we enjoyed 30 minutes of free table tennis and a bingo game at 8:30 PM, which delighted my second-grade grandchild who said it was amazing. The staff were all kind, and we enjoyed exploring the baths. I particularly liked the open-air bath on the 5th floor surrounded by greenery, giving a feeling of being immersed in nature. In the exclusive lounge for guests, I loved that you could freely enjoy Häagen-Dazs ice cream, soft drinks, beer, etc. At 4 PM there was clam chowder soup available; it was very delicious and my daughter said she could drink as much as she wanted. Last time they served corn soup instead. From 5 PM there were amazake and wine offered as well. The meals were all very delicious; I was especially impressed that children were served smaller portions of dishes identical to those for adults. My grandchild usually doesn’t eat much but finished everything beautifully this time! The breakfast buffet was also very tasty; however, when we went at 9 AM after being told it would be crowded around 8 AM, my favorite yuba had run out already—when I asked staff for more they said it had sold out completely which was disappointing. Nonetheless, this trip became a wonderful memory for us all! Thank you so much!

    I am a returning guest to Hanare Ashiroi.

    I usually stayed on the Standard Floor, but this time I stayed on the Luxury Floor for the first time. The view was better than that of the Standard Floor. The meals were all elaborate and delicious, but I had to wait over 15 minutes during breakfast. No one came even after waiting, so I had to call someone myself, only to find out I had been forgotten. Considering the considerable amount paid, while I understand it was busy, it was disappointing.

    Onsen Indulgence

    The Onsen experiences were absolutely wonderful and relaxing. The 5th floor felt like a completely different Onsen, and we enjoyed it from the approach itself. We were deeply touched by the surprise sparkling wine prepared for a birthday celebration. It was also delightful to watch Disney+ in our Room. The view from the Room was stunning, and all the staff members were kind and attentive. However, one small disappointment was that the snacks in the lounge felt lacking. We thought it would have been perfect if there had been more variety of snacks and draft beer instead of clam chowder service! My husband and I talked about this on our way back home.

    First-time Use

    I stayed with my wife and our elementary school-aged child. The room was clean, and we enjoyed a private dining experience for dinner in a luxurious atmosphere. The evening bingo event featured separate games for adults and children, allowing us to have a delightful time together.

    Onsen is the best!

    This was my first visit to Ogoto Onsen, and the water was very gentle. The front desk staff greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel welcome. The Onsen was amazing—the water was smooth and felt like it adhered to the skin! Even after soaking for a long time, there was no fatigue from the water, which was wonderful. We chose a room with an open-air bath. It was clean, convenient, and comfortable; however, the towels and yukata had a slightly musty smell, which was disappointing. For meals, we enjoyed a private dining experience featuring Omi beef teppanyaki kaiseki cuisine. The private room allowed us to dine at our own pace. We look forward to visiting again if we have another opportunity!

    Onsen and meals are exceptional.

    This was my second stay at the accommodation. Although it was around the same time as before, the dishes were different and delicious once again. I also enjoyed the beautiful tableware each time a dish was served. The staff at the accommodation provided courteous service, and I would love to stay here again if I have another opportunity.

    All are excellent!!

    Located slightly towards the mountains from Lake Biwa, it was a bit disappointing that the lake couldn't be seen from the room (this may depend on the floor). However, everything else was absolutely perfect with exceptional hospitality. The accommodation is impeccably clean, the food is delicious, and the room is very comfortable—highly recommended to everyone. The open-air bath in the room had perfect temperature and ambiance!

    I usually don't write reviews, but I feel compelled to share this as a caution for others. I made the reservation on behalf of my elderly parents. They always ask the front desk staff to input the Wi-Fi password during check-in, not just at this accommodation but everywhere they stay. They liked "Hanare Yashiroi" and stayed there in April and May without any issues. In June, they stayed at "Kotone" because they preferred in-room dining. During this stay, they also asked a female front desk staff member to input the Wi-Fi password. Unlike their experience at "Hanare Yashiroi," where it was always done carefully, this time it was returned quickly, which raised some suspicion but wasn’t questioned further. The stay was for one night starting June 24th. When checking their phone bill for June, it turned out to be more than double the usual amount due to mobile data usage being turned on instead of connecting via Wi-Fi as expected. This issue came to light at the end of July when reviewing their phone settings; mobile data had been enabled instead of entering the Wi-Fi password. There is no concrete evidence regarding what happened; however, no one else touched their phones during that time, and my parents are unable to change such settings themselves. For those who may request assistance with entering passwords from staff members—please exercise caution!

    The Best Onsen (Bettei Akai)

    Check-in at 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM. We had a very relaxing time. The private open-air bath in the room was refreshing, and we enjoyed it multiple times. It has become one of our favorite Onsen experiences. The staff provided excellent service with warm smiles that were truly comforting. They were also kind to our dog, which allowed us to stay with peace of mind. Thank you very much!

    Satisfied with the meals

    This was my first time using this Ryokan for a trip to Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei. The room with an open-air bath was clean and functional, and the bath was spacious enough for two people to relax comfortably. The quality of the hot spring water was excellent, and I enjoyed it multiple times. Above all, the cuisine here was outstanding. However, like many Hotels or Ryokans, the portion sizes were quite large, which can be challenging for adults; it was a bit disappointing not being able to finish everything. That said, both the taste and variety of dishes were exceptional, leaving me very satisfied. I would love to stay here again!

    First Visit to Ogoto Onsen

    I was initially unsure about enjoying the Onsen in summer, but the evening breeze was pleasant, and the temperature of the open-air bath in our room was just right for a relaxing soak. The dinner, featuring dishes like Omi beef steak and hamo hot pot rice, was delicious. The dessert, shikuwasa ice cream, was refreshingly delightful. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, making me want to visit again in another season.

    We had a very relaxing stay. The staff member who served us dinner on the first night was incredibly attentive, making the meal even more enjoyable. I heard that the braised pork surrounded by mashed potatoes is a specialty of the Ryokan, and it was so delicious that it left a lasting impression. Coincidentally, I came across a similar scene in a novel I was reading, and it became a topic of conversation about our recent stay at the Ryokan.

    Towels have been collected.

    Overall, I was very satisfied. Thank you very much. If there is another opportunity, I would love to stay again. I apologize for not being able to finish the meal. Here are three points I noticed: The Onsen was excellent, but there was no explanation about the gender-swapping schedule for the indoor baths in the morning and evening. Without a multiple night stay, it seemed difficult to experience all four locations. During dinner, a birthday celebration gift was given at the neighboring table. It made me think, "It's my birthday too." While it’s my fault for not reporting it in advance, I felt a little lonely about this situation. Lastly, when I hung my personal towel on the towel rack in the room's washbasin area and placed used hotel bath towels on the floor of the washbasin area for collection, my personal towel also got taken away by mistake—probably because it was white like hotel towels. I'll be more careful next time!

    It was a wonderful time.

    We stayed on the luxury floor of Accommodation Yashiroi with my mother. First, when we mentioned our name at the parking lot and had previously requested a wheelchair, they quickly brought it to us and assisted us. From the start, I thought the staff were wonderful. Although there is some distance from the entrance to Yashiroi, thanks to the staff's guidance, we reached the lounge without any issues even with my mother in a wheelchair. The room's atmosphere was lovely, and amenities were abundant. With L'Occitane and Sekkisei products as well as three types of ReFa hair dryers/irons available, plus a Balmuda kettle—it was all so impressive! It’s already decided that I’ll be returning again for sure. The room had its own bath where my mother with mobility issues could bathe three times comfortably. The TV in the room was large, and there was also one on the ceiling above the bed that could be watched while lying down—absolutely perfect! Drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary; each drink seemed carefully selected, and we even took some home as souvenirs after being encouraged by staff to do so—it made us very happy. We also booked an esthetic treatment where I received a thorough massage—definitely planning to use this service again next time. For meals, we dined at Yashiroi’s restaurant in a private room which allowed my mother to enjoy her meal without worrying about others around her. The female staff member who served us provided excellent hospitality—not too formal nor overly casual but perfectly approachable service that felt warm yet professional. Every dish was intricately prepared; paired with beautiful tableware made for an indulgent experience overall—the exclusive caviar offered only on this luxury floor was outstanding! Everything about our stay exuded high quality providing blissful moments throughout; however just one minor disappointment occurred during checkout: while pushing both my mother's wheelchair along with carrying luggage towards what felt like quite distant doors from reception lounge proved challenging physically—I wonder if assistance should’ve been proactively offered here instead? Although help had been extended earlier when boarding/unloading wheelchairs or handling baggage elsewhere during stay itself…this particular instance left slight regret behind especially noticing visible yet unresponsive nearby personnel upon elevator exit area leading toward main entrance vicinity. Additionally regarding souvenir shop accessibility improvements—a ramp installation would enable easier browsing opportunities allowing elderly guests such as mothers avoiding stairway-only limitations currently present (hopeful suggestion). Despite these small points raised above though overall impression remains unchanged reflecting exceptional hospitality delivered consistently across board making unforgettable memories cherished deeply together alongside family members alike including heartfelt appreciation expressed mutually between ourselves & dedicated team efforts involved ensuring utmost satisfaction achieved seamlessly     The staff's service during dinner and breakfast was excellent.

    The meals were visually appealing and delicious. The female staff member who assisted us provided excellent service, and I would love for her to assist us again if given the chance. Overall, I was satisfied, but the air conditioner's wind direction adjustment did not respond at certain angles with the remote control, so it might need inspection. Additionally, I noticed mold on the air conditioner louvers; cleaning them with disinfectant ethanol spray about once a month might be a good idea.

    It was an accommodation where we felt genuine hospitality.

    This was my first stay. Except for some senior female staff, I felt the hospitality of all the staff at this accommodation. The meals were very delicious and highly satisfying. The view from the room was disappointing, but I was satisfied with the amenities and cleanliness. The private open-air bath was clean, spacious, and also satisfying. Thank you for preparing sparkling wine when we mentioned it was a trip to celebrate an anniversary. I would love to stay here again. If I may add a wish, recently more accommodations have check-out times at 11:00 AM; it would be nice if that could be implemented here as well.

    This is my third time using this service.

    We enjoyed the private open-air Onsen in the room, as well as many other Onsen options, and were delighted with the delicious meals provided, including dishes tailored to our child's preferences. Regarding our four-star rating for the Facility, it is due to a few issues: a limited number of power outlets in the room (especially none near the sofa), a refrigerator that does not cool properly, and a hairdryer with weak airflow. We look forward to staying again next time.

    Onsen is the best.

    The first visit was impressive, with excellent Onsen, meals, and service. This was my third visit; the Onsen was still amazing, but the service and meals felt average compared to before. It might have been because it was a special occasion or perhaps I wasn’t feeling well.

    Gourmet and Onsen Indulgence

    This was my first stay at Hanare Kyoroi, and I thoroughly enjoyed the exclusive lounge, which was available from check-in until 1 AM and from 5 AM until check-out the next morning. The lounge offered a variety of drinks and treats like Häagen-Dazs ice cream. The Onsen experience was exceptional, with options including private open-air baths, male-only open-air baths, female-only open-air baths, large communal baths, and even in-room Onsen facilities—truly indulgent! The cuisine was delicious and served in a calm atmosphere that allowed for a relaxing dining experience. The staff provided excellent service with great attention to detail. I would love to visit again!

    Onsen for Couples

    This was my third stay at Yumotokan. The onsen is wonderful, with plenty of baths to enjoy within the accommodation. However, the meals were disappointing. I found a strand of hair stuck in the soup dish. I didn’t notice it at first and realized only after eating about two-thirds of it. Feeling uncomfortable, I informed the staff, who apologized and replaced it with a new one, but I couldn’t eat anymore. The rest of the dishes also felt unappetizing after that incident, and I lost my appetite. For breakfast, I chose the buffet option; however, there were few side dishes available, and they ran out quickly without timely replenishment. While the onsen was excellent, it was an unfortunate experience overall at this ryokan.

    We are delighted to ...

    We are delighted to provide L'Occitane skincare set pouches. Additionally, the shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion are also from L'Occitane, and we love the fragrance. During the hot season, we noticed some insects entering the Room, which was a bit concerning.

    It was the best stay.

    We stayed here to celebrate my elderly mother's birthday. The room was upgraded, and we were treated to champagne service during dinner, making it an absolutely wonderful stay. Every staff member provided warm and heartfelt hospitality. We were especially touched by the kindness of the bus driver on our way back, who shared so much helpful information with us. The exceptional Onsen, delicious meals, and outstanding service truly rejuvenated us. We will definitely stay here again!

    Wonderful Onsen and Meals

    The kaiseki meal was great, but reserving the private dining room "Kotone" turned out to be an excellent choice. Except for visiting the private onsen and shopping for souvenirs, we stayed in our room and fully enjoyed the onsen and meals.

    Overall, I was satisfied.

    I stayed at the accommodation on my way back from Osaka. While there were no major complaints about the service, I felt there was a noticeable variation depending on the staff. During my stay at Yashiroi, the check-in explanation was thorough regarding how to use the lounge but lacked details such as taking yukata from the lounge, towels being available in the room's washbasin area, or towels provided in the public bath. The male staff member who assisted during dinner provided excellent service. He even apologized for a minor issue with a private bath before dinner (though it wasn’t necessary), which showed good communication among staff members. The interaction during dinner was also very enjoyable. However, breakfast service by another staff member left something to be desired. While I was still eating my salad, other dishes were cleared away quickly, which felt inappropriate for this type of accommodation. Additionally, they brought me an incorrect drink after breakfast (a small mistake I didn’t point out), further leaving a negative impression. The meals were all delicious—especially dishes featuring dashi like shrimp shinjo soup and egg rolls with sauce in the morning. The grilled fish stood out; isaki had a wonderfully roasted aroma and hamo was perfectly seared with an enticing fragrance. The rice was carefully selected and tasted amazing; it’s unfortunate that I couldn’t eat much of the unagi rice at dinner due to being full. I was satisfied with my room overall—particularly its open-air bath which had ample space and featured Towada stone (?) inside for comfort along with great views from the bath itself. Although I enjoyed both private and public baths, my husband found our room’s bath so satisfying that he didn’t visit the public one. Despite some minor issues mentioned above, we were overall very satisfied with our stay and plan to return next time with other family members!
