The lounge drinks are...
The service was very good, and I was looking forward to the lounge in the evening after being told there would be wine and other drinks. However, while there was sake, both the white and red wine were empty. When we arrived, the lounge also had no iced coffee. It’s a lovely lounge, so it was a bit disappointing. I hope everything will be properly replenished.

I stayed here for the first time in 25 years.
I stayed in a special Room, and it was almost too spacious. The futon and pillow were excellent, and I slept soundly for the first time in a while. One thing worth mentioning for anyone considering a stay is that there are no vending machines at all. If you think you might want a snack or canned coffee, be sure to buy it in advance at a nearby convenience store—there’s really nothing available on-site. The meals weren’t quite “the best,” but they were tasty. As for the baths, the in-Room bath was on the hotter side, while the large public bath and open-air bath were slightly cooler, but both were very good. Service felt somewhat limited, perhaps due to having fewer staff members. It didn’t bother me much, but I did hear other guests complaining about it. Maybe because I stayed on a weekday—and my memory is vague compared with about 25 years ago—it felt quieter than before. If you’d like to relax at your own pace while avoiding too much interaction with others, this Accommodation may be a good fit.

A stay at Sanraku. Nasu Onsen.
It was a wonderful Ryokan that fully met our expectations. The staff’s hospitality was excellent, and the attendant’s efficient service and clear explanations of the dishes during our in-room meals were also very good. We traveled mainly for the Onsen, and it truly was outstanding—especially the large open-air bath, which was full of atmosphere. Dinner and breakfast were both luxurious, delicious, and very filling. It truly felt like an Accommodation blessed with abundance.

Onsen-Loving Seniors
As a senior who isn’t confident driving, I really appreciated that Sanraku offers Shuttle Service from the nearest station, and it’s also just a short walk from the local bus stop. There were no cluttered notices anywhere—just a beautifully maintained garden tended with great care, birdsong, attentive hospitality, and thoughtfully prepared dishes that highlight the quality of the ingredients. The Onsen water felt wonderfully silky, and in the quiet atmosphere at Sanraku, everything was simply outstanding. I chose this Accommodation to visit Onsen Shrine, but it was so relaxing that I almost forgot my original purpose. Both my mind and body were truly healed. The homemade karasumi and salt-grilled ayu were all delicious. The simmered kinki (extra charge) was exceptional. I also enjoyed chatting with the staff—before I knew it, two hours had flown by. One small issue: the labels on the facial cleanser and skincare amenities were hard to understand, which made things a bit difficult. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to return to in another season—or whenever I’m feeling mentally tired. Thank you very much to all the staff for your wonderful care.

We stayed again for ...
We stayed again for the first time in a while to celebrate, and the flowers you prepared in advance after our consultation had a wonderful design and were very well received. The view from the Room and the scenery from the open-air bath were excellent, and we were able to relax. The staff member who served our meals was very pleasant, and the portion sizes were just right. I was worried that sleeping on futons might hurt my back, but there was no need to worry. The only disappointment was that after bathing, the lounge drinks and glasses we wanted were not replenished, and there were no staff around to ask. Other than that, nothing in particular stood out, and we had a great time. Thank you very much. We will stay again when we travel to Nasu.

I arrived a little b...
I arrived a little before check-in time, but they completed the procedures first and let me wait in the lounge until the Room was ready. The Room was simple. I didn’t use the in-room bath, but it faced a window and the tub looked very deep. I also liked that we could take home the drawstring pouch with the amenities. It was nice to be served matcha soon after entering the Room. The lounge doesn’t have a large selection, but I was able to have a quick drink and some snacks before bathing. The staff member in charge of our meal explained various things and chatted with us, which made for an enjoyable time. They even saw us off when we left. As an IKYU Diamond benefit, I received a ¥1,000 voucher that could be used for drinks at dinner, additional dishes, or at the shop. Since drinks already included a half bottle as part of the IKYU Diamond benefit, I decided not to use it for beverages. Also, additional dishes had to be ordered by 5:00 p.m., and without knowing what would be on the menu I couldn’t judge whether we needed anything extra—so I chose to use it at the shop instead. I rushed to the shop after dinner, but it was already closed even though it was five minutes before closing time, so I used it at checkout the next morning. I heard you can see autumn leaves from some Rooms; since those are probably popular and more expensive, I’d still love to try staying in one someday.

I was able to spend some relaxing time with my father.
Because it rained on the first day of our trip, we checked into the Accommodation early and relaxed in the lobby. The front desk staff and attendants were kind and helpful, giving us a warm and welcoming impression. The Room was clean and well prepared, and the meals were delicious with just the right portion size. My father especially enjoyed the raw egg at breakfast. The baths were great, with a spacious open-air bath where we could soak comfortably. If we have the chance, we would definitely like to stay again.

Family Trip
We love Onsen and visit many as a family. Nasu Onsen is one of our favorites, and the hot spring water at Sanraku was truly wonderful—gentle, smooth, and soft with no harshness. The atmosphere of the large public bath and the view from the open-air bath were both very pleasant, and we ended up soaking for a long time. After check-in, there was a lounge where we could enjoy complimentary drinks; it was also very relaxing, with greenery in the courtyard visible through the large floor-to-ceiling windows. Our Room faced the entrance/parking side, but since it was surrounded by trees it wasn’t bad at all—and we were lucky to see a full moon from our Room that night. Both dinner and breakfast had a seasonal feel with refined seasoning, and we could tell great care had been taken with the ingredients. The bamboo shoot rice at dinner and the white rice at breakfast were so delicious that we finished an entire rice tub each time. The attendant who looked after us was friendly yet professional, which made our stay even more pleasant. The Ryokan itself may be old, but everything was thoroughly cleaned throughout, so we had a very comfortable stay. This is an Accommodation we would like to visit again.

A long-established tradition
Some parts of the Facility feel a bit dated, but it is well maintained, and everything was spotlessly clean—even under the roof eaves—making the stay very pleasant. The Onsen was also comfortable; my only request is that when sitting on the stonework in the open-air bath, mineral deposits can make the skin hurt. It would be helpful if it could be polished a little. This is not unique to this Facility, but there is also the issue of growing trees blocking the view. Since it is within a national park, maintenance may be restricted, but scenic views are also an asset and should be discussed with the authorities. If left as is, many resort areas will end up hidden in overgrowth. I believe Numazu City has cleared trees around a park observation deck.

I also wanted to drink milk.
Since we were in Nasu, I would have liked to have milk with breakfast. I understand some guests may not like milk, but it has been orange juice every time lately, which is a bit disappointing.

An open-air bath in harmony with nature and exceptional cuisine that brings out the best of seasonal ingredients
We stayed for one night as a couple. In the lobby lounge, there was self-service coffee, wine, and sake, which felt like a very thoughtful touch. The open-air bath seemed to be carved into the natural surroundings; it was very spacious, and we could truly enjoy nature—squirrels even peeked out from the shade of the trees. The water temperature was just right—not too hot or too lukewarm—so we could soak for a long time comfortably. The water also felt wonderfully soft. The meals made great use of local ingredients and were all delicious; in particular, the rice was exceptional—perhaps thanks to the quality of the water. We were also pleasantly surprised when an extra dish was brought out as a surprise thanks to the chef’s consideration. The staff member who assisted us was very polite and engaged us in friendly conversation. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy and rainy, but it was still a very satisfying trip. If I had to mention anything: the bottom of the open-air bath was slippery; the morning self-service coffee tasted bitter (perhaps because an espresso machine was used for regular coffee); and since the room felt dry, we would have appreciated a humidifier. As this inn has been operating since the Taisho era, I hope they will continue for many years to come.

Were Diamond benefits available?
It was my first visit in a year, and the value for money is great, and the meals are good too. Above all, the best Onsen and open-air bath are outstanding. However, I don’t think I received any Diamond Member benefits. Was there something that happened?

Highly Satisfying Onsen Accommodation
First, the entrance was beautiful, and the guidance inside and to the Room was excellent; the hospitality was outstanding. The Room we were shown, with a private open-air Onsen bath, was also spotless, with a lovely view of the courtyard—it was a Room I could love from the moment I stepped in. The footbath from the Room, and the temperature of the open-air bath were just right, and even with just the Room alone, it was an Onsen stay that left me completely satisfied. The meals were delicious until the very end, with ingredients and flavors that showed real care and attention. The breakfast menu was exactly what I had hoped for, so I ate too much. The massage was also excellent. It was an Accommodation where it’s hard to find anything negative. At checkout, it felt like an Accommodation that makes you want to say, “We’ll be back!”

A relaxing and soothing stay.
I don’t remember exactly, but it’s probably been about 20 years since I first fell in love with Sanraku’s Onsen. I stay here in autumn and spring. I also enjoy the brief chats with the staff. The meals are delicious and always satisfying. Above all, the Onsen is wonderful. With tensions rising around the world, it’s worrying—but when things become peaceful again, I hope to enjoy the Onsen even more. The flowers in the Room were beautiful.

The thoughtful hospitality at this wonderful Ryokan is exceptional.
This was my first time being able to book a twin Room with an open-air bath, and I stayed for two nights. I’ve visited several times, and it’s a wonderful Accommodation—refined cuisine and excellent service. I used to come here with my mother, but she passed away last year, so after the funeral I stayed here again when I had errands in Utsunomiya. With two nights, you can truly relax. On the day of arrival Utsunomiya had heavy snowfall and I worried we might not be able to drive, but it was fine by the afternoon. This time I came to Utsunomiya for the first anniversary of my mother’s passing, and when I mentioned that we had returned to this Ryokan again, they prepared an offering meal in her memory. I was genuinely surprised—there are no Ryokan that provide service like this. It seems it was arranged through the head chef and the staff member in charge; even the manager apparently didn’t know. This is a truly outstanding Japanese-style Ryokan. Normally you would never receive such consideration. No wonder it’s said to be number one in Tochigi Prefecture. The calm male staff member who assisted us was also excellent—his manners and movements really conveyed Japanese hospitality. At the entrance to the tatami dining room there is both wooden flooring and tatami; staff bring dishes in from the wooden side (perhaps because spills can be wiped up easily?). When I asked why, he explained that staff enter from the wooden flooring while guests enter from the tatami side. I didn’t know that—very educational. One suggestion: please place a stand light on top of the refrigerator near the entrance—it’s quite dark there. The ability to adjust the temperature of the open-air bath is wonderful as well.

Overall, it was a good stay.
I was anxious because it was our first trip with our 0-year-old baby, but thanks to everyone at the Accommodation, it turned into a very satisfying trip. They provided amenities for children and were happy to help heat up baby food in the microwave. Some parts of the building feel old, but the hospitality more than made up for it and truly warmed our hearts.

I stayed here to relax in the Onsen and enjoy delicious meals. There wasn’t much to do for sightseeing this season, but when I stayed before, the dining, Onsen, and staff service were all excellent—truly what you’d expect from a long-established Ryokan—so I chose to return. As expected, the hospitality and cuisine were outstanding.

Enjoy the wonderful hot springs.
A large open-air bath is set a short distance from the building, and it felt like being in the forest. The water temperature was just right, so I could relax and soak at length. With the men’s and women’s baths switching, we were able to enjoy two different open-air baths, and the deeper indoor bath was also excellent. The meals were unpretentious yet heartfelt and very delicious. If I had to find a downside, the alcohol prices felt a little on the high side.

It seems our expectations were too high.
Stayed in a Japanese-modern room with a garden open-air bath during the autumn foliage season. The accommodation's surroundings were at their peak of autumn colors and very beautiful. Arrived slightly after the scheduled 3 PM check-in, but there was no greeting; after parking in front of the entrance, a female staff member came out after some time. The reception service was not particularly welcoming either. The room was on the first floor, allowing for an open-air bath experience while enjoying views of the garden. Room wear consisted only of yukata, with two provided per person. Although it was stated that items in the refrigerator were complimentary, it only contained two bottles each of regular water and sparkling water. (Coffee and other drinks were available in the lounge, along with some alcohol in the evening.) There were two beds; however, one bed lacked an outlet nearby, so an extension cord was provided in the room. Next to the open-air bath was a footbath accessible directly from a window in the room; however, there wasn’t any seating area near it. Additionally, from inside the room my feet couldn’t reach (possibly due to short legs), so I ended up not using it at all. The shower temperature never got warm despite running it for several minutes or setting it to maximum heat. Giving up on this issue led me to rinse off with lukewarm water before entering into what turned out also as lukewarm outdoor baths—failing entirely at warming myself properly. Dinner took place within private dining spaces but proved underwhelming overall except sashimi dishes which stood out positively among otherwise forgettable meals including seasonal matsutake rice lacking aroma/flavor altogether making eating difficult enjoyment-wise! Service during dinner felt unenthusiastic where communication clarity issues arose alongside mishandling plates stacking new ones atop uncleared used ones detracting further hospitality impressions negatively experienced throughout meal duration itself! Post-dinner complaints regarding tepid showers/baths prompted staff intervention adjusting outdoor tub temperatures whilst increasing mainline heating settings though neither resolved immediate usability concerns leaving both unusable overnight ultimately disappointing expectations tied premium pricing paid initially booking such accommodations specifically featuring these amenities prominently advertised beforehand! Since spring
The arrival of autumn this year was delayed, and while the foliage inside the accommodation was not yet in full color, the greenery in the garden was beautiful. The room's open-air hot spring bath with natural flowing water was amazing—running for 48 hours straight felt almost wasteful. Such luxury! Recently, I often opt for a multiple night stay, and accommodations where the meals on the second day are even better are highly recommended. This place fits that description perfectly. This time, I realized again how much we would appreciate a well-stocked selection of soft drinks in the refrigerator or lounge, especially as a couple who doesn't drink much alcohol! Looking forward to it!

It was excellent.
This was my first visit to the Nasu area. Coming from Tokyo, the access was convenient, and I stayed at another accommodation the night before. Sanraku's Onsen was excellent, and the meals were incredibly delicious. The staff provided great service, and their farewell when leaving the accommodation was very pleasant. Even the chef (perhaps the head chef?) came out to see us off, which I thought was a wonderful touch. It has become one of my favorite accommodations, so I would love to visit again during a different season. Thank you for your hospitality!

An Open-Air Bath You'll Want to Visit Again
Nasu Sanraku Accommodation offers an exceptional experience, especially with its outstanding open-air bath. Surrounded by trees, the bath provides a relaxing and spacious atmosphere. This time, we enjoyed a girls' gathering and had a wonderful time chatting in the bath. The room was spacious, and meals were served in private dining rooms. The dishes featured high-quality ingredients in small portions, leaving us very satisfied by the end of the meal. My friends were also extremely pleased. Although we thought it might feel slightly cold walking up the slope to the open-air bath if it snowed, warming up in the bath made it perfectly fine. We look forward to visiting again. Thank you for your hospitality!

About Milk
Previously, guests could enjoy delicious Nasu milk for breakfast, but it has not been available recently, which is unfortunate. This might be due to some guests preferring not to have cold milk.

The Blue Glow
In memory of a dear friend, close companions gathered in Nasu. Originally planned for six people, the stay ended up with four due to last-minute COVID-19 cases. At the accommodation, we were first guided to the "Gozasho Room," where we reflected on the Taisho era. Afterward, we relaxed in the lounge, enjoyed the onsen, and savored exquisite cuisine. The highlight was perhaps the early morning open-air bath—immersing in indigo-hued waters under dappled sunlight was truly unforgettable. We are deeply grateful for such wonderful hospitality. - Eicho-kai

It was a great open-air bath.
I often visit Nasu, and this time I made a Reservation based on the recommendation of the owner of a jam shop along the Nasu Highway that I frequently visit. As rumored, the open-air bath was magnificent. The moss and other natural elements that have developed over time added to its charm, making it a wonderful bath experience. Meals were served in the Room, giving us plenty of opportunities to chat with the friendly and cheerful staff, which made for an enjoyable stay. The portion sizes of the dishes felt slightly large for me personally, but I think they were generally just right—not too much or too little for most people. This place seems to cater to a more luxurious clientele and is considered somewhat high-end even by locals, making it feel slightly exclusive. On our way back, they handed out freshly boiled corn as part of their traditional service—a delightful surprise that added to our satisfaction!

I visited with my elderly parents, and both the meals and the bath were excellent. Although it was raining, the garden shrouded in mist had its own charm. The meals featured seasonal and local ingredients, perfectly portioned to be refined yet satisfying. Local sake was provided as a complimentary service, which was a delightful treat for a sake lover like me. I would love to visit again!

Dirty
Uncleanliness reminiscent of a love hotel built during the bubble era. The bathtub is terrible, with hair left behind. The image shows the bathtub of the best Room. Cars must be parked across a curved road, requiring you to walk across. Even though we knew we had to move after unloading luggage on the second night and were about to do so, staff rushed us by saying "Please move immediately" as soon as we started unloading luggage.

The hot spring was excellent.
Founded in 1923, the facility shows its age but has been renovated and is clean and well-maintained. There is a distinctive Onsen Ryokan scent, but you get used to it quickly. The dinner was delicious, with the sea urchin and stone-grilled steak being exceptional. Breakfast was simple yet tasty. Nasu-Shiobara is known for its excellent Onsen, which I personally prefer over Kusatsu. The open-air bath here is outstanding. The Seiji Fujishiro Museum of Art is a 15-minute walk from the Ryokan (downhill on the way there, uphill on the way back). Enjoy a leisurely stroll!
