    Recommended Ryokan

    Stayed here after hiking Mount Nasu. The staff provided excellent service, the food was delicious, and I had a comfortable stay. The Onsen featured a spacious open-air bath surrounded by greenery, allowing me to relax and recover from fatigue. I felt it was a great Ryokan.

    The open-air bath is exceptional.

    The open-air bath was one of the best I have ever experienced. The food was delicious, and the room was spacious and relaxing. The Sanraku group always offers spacious rooms along with exceptional hospitality that warms your heart. This is the perfect accommodation for when you want to do nothing and simply relax. The open-air bath is simply the best—spacious and surrounded by nature, offering a truly refreshing experience. Meals are perfectly portioned with delicate flavors, making them delightful. An Accommodation you'll want to revisit.

    A historic accommodation with the best natural hot spring baths.

    I appreciated the traditional elegance of this long-established Ryokan. However, the Room was quite far from the large public bath, located at the very end of the Facility. For elderly guests, this distance might feel significant. The dining area also felt far away. Having large public baths on both sides of the Facility would be more convenient. That said, the abundant flow and quality of Onsen water were excellent, truly living up to its reputation as a natural Onsen.

    The sukiyaki smoke and oil were intense, and the clothes and room got dirty.

    The meals are good, but the sukiyaki caused poor ventilation, with excessive smoke and oil staining both clothes and the dining area. There is no exhaust fan, which is unacceptable. The Japanese-style dining room needs a screen door to prevent insects from entering. While the service is excellent, please reconsider the Facility. There are many mosquitoes. The open-air bath has only one umbrella, and it’s broken, which was inconvenient during rain.

    The Best Open-Air Bath

    The weather was not favorable, with cloudy skies on the first day and rain on the second, but the large open-air hot spring bath with natural flowing water was at a perfect temperature and very comfortable. Looking up at the sky, we could see mountain cherry blossoms in bloom, and when the wind blew, petals gracefully fluttered down onto the surface of the water, creating an exquisite atmosphere. The meals were also delicious, leaving us completely satisfied.

    Onsen is amazing!

    I chose to stay at Kanazawa's Sanraku because of its good reputation. The Onsen water was excellent, and although the building had an old charm, it was well-maintained and clean. The meals were delicious as well. I would love to visit again.

    Disappointing reception service

    The explanation at the reception differed from what was provided over the phone, causing unnecessary hassle regarding payment, which was very disappointing.

    Aging of the building is inevitable.

    We stayed here for a family trip. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The lounge was also very comfortable. While I understand that aging buildings are inevitable, it might be even better if the guest room tatami mats were replaced or the sinks in the large public bath (which had cracks) were updated with some maintenance. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance. Thank you very much!

    April in Nasu

    It is already April, but it snowed and was cold. However, regardless of the cold, I have used this accommodation multiple times and always experienced high hospitality and a satisfying stay. I would like to use it again around the change of seasons. Thank you very much.

    It was an average experience. I expected the Onsen water to have a stronger sulfur quality, but it felt like regular hot water. It also seemed slightly lukewarm.

    We stayed as a family at the accommodation. It has become our regular accommodation. We really like the room, the food, and the bath. The staff's attentiveness is truly impressive. It was the best spring vacation trip, thank you very much!

    Wedding Anniversary

    Stayed at a place once used by Emperor Showa! We visited for an anniversary trip. A private bus just for us picked us up from Nasu-Shiobara Station. Upon arrival, we immediately went to the Onsen. No one else was there! We soaked for about an hour and a half, and still, no one came! It was so relaxing to enjoy the snow view. Absolutely amazing. Dinner was delicious, with just the right portions. The staff lady was kind and attentive, which we greatly appreciated. In the morning, we enjoyed another two hours in the open-air bath starting at 6 AM—again completely private with no one around! The spacious bath and serene atmosphere were perfect; only the sound of water could be heard. Truly healing. We were also dropped off at the station on our way back. Unfortunately, our Shinkansen stopped near Omiya Station due to a coupling issue with no clear recovery time in sight! We ended up taking local trains home but felt quite exhausted afterward. If not for this incident, it would have been a perfect trip!

    As expected of a long-established Ryokan.

    I had been on a series of trips to hidden and unique Onsen, but I visited because the photos of the open-air bath left a strong impression on me. I was warmly welcomed and was able to spend a relaxing time at a leisurely pace. The soft quality of the spring water was pleasant, and I am very satisfied. The staff's hospitality, meticulous cleaning, and other basics that an Onsen Ryokan should have were all in place, allowing me to have a truly wonderful time. Thank you very much.

    Anniversary Course and Superior Japanese-style Room

    The private trip was almost like my first trip in memory. Since it was both of our birthday months, I planned a gift trip, considering a reasonable distance and access from Tokyo, the atmosphere of the onsen, cuisine, anniversary arrangements, room, and scenery, which led us to this place after much consideration. I thought it was best to rely on the Shinkansen and the shuttle service, considering the unfamiliar area and concerns about snow. On the day, as feared, there was a severe cold wave and heavy snow just before, and the Shinkansen we had tickets for was suddenly canceled, resulting in an arrival nearly two hours later than planned. However, we were grateful for the thoughtful contact and the shuttle bus waiting for us. The room we aimed for was already booked at the time of reservation, but we chose a superior Japanese-style room in the East Wing, which was very spacious and offered a space to enjoy the snowy scenery. We chose a room in the East Wing because we wanted to dine in a private room at Sansuitei for our anniversary. The private Japanese-style room at Sansuitei was very calming, allowing us to savor the refined and delicious cuisine while enjoying the snowy landscape outside. The presentation and taste were delightful, and the anniversary cake became a wonderful memory. The photo frame gift from the photo session also became a great keepsake. The onsen, which was the highlight of the trip, was my first-ever open-air bath in the snow. The illuminated, gently falling snow created a breathtaking and soothing experience. The amenities were also well-equipped. The morning bath had a different location due to the gender switch, but it was equally relaxing in the snowy open-air bath. The sound of the gently flowing hot spring water was not too quiet, which was nice. Breakfast was a luxurious menu with a variety of dishes, including a small hot pot unique to a ryokan, which was very satisfying. I highly recommend dining at Sansuitei for both dinner and breakfast. In the lounge, we could enjoy free drinks like alcohol and coffee while watching the courtyard, allowing us to spend a relaxing time. The service from the staff, including the attendant who took care of us, was excellent. We had a wonderful time. Thank you very much.

    A bit disappointing

    I imagined the images and visited, but it was very old and different, which was disappointing. The food was lightly seasoned and delicious. The cleaning was not thorough.

    The open-air bath is very nice.

    The open-air bath surrounded by trees was wonderful and provided an extraordinary experience. However, the indoor bath on the first day was too hot to enter. The view from the lounge was also lovely, and with tea and evening wine service, there was a place to relax outside of the Room, allowing for a leisurely stay. The staff were courteous and made it a very memorable experience. I would love to visit again.

    The open-air bath in...

    The open-air bath in the room faces the garden, and at night it is illuminated. When you look up at the sky, you can see the starry sky with occasional snowflakes, making it hard to leave the bath. The next day, I woke up early and enjoyed a relaxing soak in the bath as the morning sun rose, feeling very comfortable, and the water temperature was just right. The meals were served in the room, and I could feel the thoughtful attention at key points, making the food delicious. All the staff members were courteous, and I would like to visit again.

    The best hospitality

    I am grateful to all the well-trained staff. Thanks to them, it was a wonderful stay. It is truly a Ryokan full of hospitality, with excellent Onsen, food, and cost performance, and I would like to visit again. Thank you for the lovely photo frame gift with a picture of the three of us, as it was a celebration of my husband's retirement. We have already displayed it. Although it was just a one-night stay, it was refreshing and became a wonderful memory.

    Waiting time

    The open-air bath was large and the autumn leaves were beautiful. The food was decent, but the service was lacking. Upon arrival, we were made to wait at the entrance rather than the lobby for a while. Eventually, we were checked in last, but it took about 10 minutes. The elderly were tired from the train and the nearly 40-minute bus ride, and wanted to get to the Room quickly. Please guide us a little more smoothly.

    Very satisfied

    We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay as a family of three. We were filled with happiness by the warmth of the staff, including the Nakai-san. We are grateful for the kindness shown to our noisy daughter. The clean Room, seasonal cuisine, and bath where we could feel the autumn leaves were all very satisfying.     Overall Rating

    I used it for the first time in 15 years. I had high expectations because the overall rating was good, but unfortunately, it was the worst. Dirty slippers at check-in, the Room had floor heating but I was barefoot, the toilet ventilation fan was not cleaned, and it was unhygienic. The meal was supposed to be a matsutake kaiseki? But the matsutake seemed like it was boiled in water, the tempura was over-fried, and it seemed like there was no head chef... They are underestimating the customers too much. Your company's rating is irresponsible. I think IKYU should also check. I will never go to Sanraku again. Rating around 3.0.

    I live in Tokyo, but this was my first visit to Nasu. I didn't know that it gets very crowded during the autumn foliage season. However, it seems to be late this year, and the leaves around the open-air bath were still green. If the leaves had changed color, it would have added more charm. Overall, I think it was a good property, but I had planned to take the complimentary sparkling wine with me at checkout, and it seemed to have been forgotten. Well, I forgot about it myself too. Also, while I was having a drink in the lounge at night, the lights were suddenly turned off, which surprised me. It might have been because of the time, but wouldn't it be nice to give a heads-up? So, regarding the service, I would give it three stars. The sweet potato I received on the way back was delicious!

    I used the property to celebrate my wife's grandmother's 88th birthday. The overall atmosphere, the view of the garden, the service, and the meals were all very satisfying. The open-air bath was also very relaxing. My grandmother was very satisfied, and I am grateful to Sanraku.

    The food and staff were excellent.

    When we mentioned it was our wedding anniversary at the time of reservation, they sprinkled gold leaf on the dishes, and the attendant took a photo of us, which was presented in a photo frame along with a bottle of champagne. We had informed them of any ingredients we were not fond of in advance, and they accommodated our preferences, allowing us to enjoy all the dishes. Additionally, it was great that we could freely enjoy coffee and other drinks in the lounge at our convenience. The food and the attendant's service were both excellent.

    A ship before sinking

    Everything I expected was betrayed. The food was made with careless ingredients and couldn't possibly be delicious. When I asked for a replacement with hot tea during the meal, the server's attitude worsened. The breakfast was so bad that even cheap Ryokans these days wouldn't serve it. The facilities were also poor, such as the toilet lid in the dining area coming off. Neither facility maintenance nor staff training was adequate. The long-standing prestigious Ryokan was no longer there.

    Not worth the price.

    The room is extremely small. It was a room with an open-air bath, but I think the size does not match the price (only a bedroom and a small sitting area). The open-air bath is quite "aged." The bath towels are small, and there are no bathrobes. The washbasin and makeup space are also cramped. Although meals were served in the room, there was no dining space (I think other ryokans at this price range usually have a separate dining room in addition to the bedroom), and meals were served in the so-called small sitting area through the bedroom. The meal felt like a slightly upscale Japanese course meal at a countryside ryokan. In the large public bath, guests continued to enter the bathtub without washing their bodies, so I left without entering the bathtub. Does the proportion of such guests increase as the scale of the property grows? Overall, it was disappointing.

    Attention to detail

    This time, I stayed with my husband. The accommodation had various thoughtful touches, and it was very comfortable to relax in the lounge. The meals were delicious and the portions were just right. The open-air bath was spacious. There is nothing to complain about, but it would be even better if there were samue in addition to yukata. I would like to visit again next time for a girls' gathering.
