We stayed at The Westin Miyako Kyoto again this year to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Thank you for preparing an upgraded Room for us; we truly appreciate your thoughtful care. When we entered the Room, we found a warm message from the staff and some chocolates. They were placed so discreetly that it deeply moved us, and our hearts filled with gratitude. This year marks our 42nd wedding anniversary, and we hope to return together again next year. No matter how many times we visit, the Hotel’s setting is wonderful, and there are plenty of amenities—especially towels—so we could relax comfortably without any stress. The bed and pillows were also very comfortable, and we slept well. The meals never get boring even after coming every year, with a wide variety of healthy options. We feel this is a Hotel full of hospitality. Our sincere thanks to everyone—the staff and those who clean the Room as well.

A stay to enjoy the scenery, Onsen, and sightseeing.

I stayed in a Room facing Heian Shrine. From the Room, I could also see Nanzen-ji Temple and the Incline, and enjoyed scenery that felt truly Kyoto. Kyoto can be bitterly cold, but the Onsen spa made my stay very comfortable. It’s also conveniently located for sightseeing, as you can walk to Nanzen-ji Temple and Heian Shrine. The strawberry parfait in the tea room was delicious, and for dinner at the buffet restaurant I enjoyed crab, sushi, and New Year’s dishes as well. The view, the Onsen, and the food—everything was satisfying, making for a wonderful stay. I’d love to visit again as a base for exploring Kyoto.

A historic Hotel filled with wonderful memories

This is a Hotel filled with cherished memories, where I spent every year-end and New Year with my parents from birth until I was 20. This time, I visited for the first time since the 2021 renovation. The overall interior—starting with Kasuien—feels more luxurious and highly artistic, while still preserving the dignified atmosphere and deep sense of history I experienced as a child, now evolved to a new level. I was truly happy to see that the Hotel’s brilliant history and refined elegance have been carried forward. When I was young, I was deeply impressed by the staff’s professionalism—their courteous manner and hospitality toward me as a child showed me what it means to be a true professional. It also felt that this “first-class” mindset is still being valued today, with conscious effort made to instill it through training. In today’s rapidly changing society, I sincerely hope that the hospitality, thoughtfulness, and importance of human connection found in this Hotel will never fade away. The Westin Miyako Kyoto feels like a place that can pass on this mentality for generations to come.

    A Classic Hotel

“Old” here means time-honored and full of tradition. The Hotel has been renovated, so it’s clean and comfortable. What truly sets it apart from other hotels is its generous sense of hospitality. There are plenty of staff, making it easy to ask for assistance, and the spa, fitness facilities, and indoor pool are luxuriously well appointed—above all, the on-site wild bird trail is exceptional. I was able to enjoy an elegant stay. I also dined at the Hotel, and everything was delicious regardless of whether it was Japanese or Western cuisine, with a few pleasant surprises along the way. It’s easy to see why locals often come here just for a meal.

It was a very lovely, spacious Room.

There was a party that day, so I stayed overnight. Thank you for preparing such a wonderful Room. I was very satisfied with both the Facility and the spaciousness. I also had breakfast the next morning, and I was impressed by the wide variety—truly what you would expect from a Westin breakfast. I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity.

    The club lounge was disappointing.

Above all, the spa (Onsen Facility) was very satisfying. The Junior Suite Room was also spacious and well equipped. It was disappointing that the food in the club lounge seemed to have declined compared to before. Even if it were the off-season, at peak-season prices it feels inferior compared with competing Hotels.

Please choose the Kobe beef sirloin teppanyaki dinner course.

I didn’t like having to take off my slippers before going to the bath. However, the bath was always clean and well maintained. Dinner was disappointing: one appetizer, steak, a salad (mostly leafy greens), five pieces of beef nigiri sushi, and dessert. It felt very modest—among the least satisfying stays I’ve had. I enjoyed chatting with the Hotel staff during the meal, so I have no complaints about their service. It may be the Hotel’s policy, but it felt disappointing for the price.

Thanks to the Diamond member benefit, we were upgraded to a suite. As a result, we were able to enjoy the spa, an aroma treatment, in-room dining, and our stay at the Hotel. Thank you very much. We look forward to staying with you again when we visit Kyoto.

I stayed here for my birthday. With access to the club lounge, breakfast, and the Onsen, there are many ways to enjoy your stay each time. This time, I had afternoon tea and a meal at the tea lounge “MAYFAIR.” It was comfortable to enjoy a late lunch and dessert. I also enjoyed delicious pasta from in-room dining and had a very comfortable Hotel stay. I understand that IKYU Diamond benefits may not be available depending on the stay date, but I still can’t help hoping for them, so I feel excited every time. I would be happy if I could receive an upgrade next time.

This is a Hotel I would like to stay at again.

This was my first stay in over 10 years, and it was truly a pleasant one. The staff were full of hospitality, and in particular the porter—who appeared to be from Europe or the U.S.—greeted me with a warm smile and left a lasting impression. The Room was clean with a great view, and it felt like a shame to stay for only one night. I also used the SPA Kacho, which wasn’t there last time, and being able to relax in the Onsen was wonderful. At reception I was told I could use it “empty-handed,” so I did—but I could only find toner (unless I missed it), so having lotion/emulsion available as well would be very helpful. Also, there were a few spots where the floor felt slightly slippery; more thorough cleaning would make it easier to bring older family members. Bar Rokuza was also a calm space where we could talk quietly. It was fun—and very Kyoto-like—that yatsuhashi were served as snacks. This is an excellent Hotel that lives up to its history and brand. This time I stayed with No Meals Included, but next time I’d love to enjoy the dining as well. I will stay here again when visiting Kyoto.

The Facility and spa are excellent.

I stayed here again after a long time, and I was surprised at how much the Facility has improved! However, the staff’s service was a bit disappointing.

I stayed here while attending Agon Shu’s Hoshi Matsuri training.

My Room was upgraded, but it was noisy all night—I'm not sure whether it was the boiler, the wind outside, or the air-conditioning control room. I mentioned this at checkout, but I only received a brief “I see” in response. I would like to stay again next year, so please assign me a quiet Room if possible. Other than that, I really enjoyed the Onsen and was able to fully use the Diamond member benefits, so overall I am satisfied. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

This was our first time staying here on a trip to Kyoto, and because it is built on higher ground, we were able to enjoy a wonderful view. The building itself seems old, but the Room is equipped with amenities that are on par with—or better than—those of a new Hotel, and everything from filling the bathtub to using the shower is intuitive, so we had no stress at all. The bed was also extremely comfortable, and our two-night stay flew by—we’re already saying we’d love to come back.

    It was an excellent Hotel.

I always stay here whenever I visit Kyoto. This time, I traveled to Kyoto again after a long time. I really like how smooth check-in and check-out are, and that they never keep guests waiting. The Room was clean, and I could tell there was thoughtful attention to the amenities provided. For meals, I only had breakfast, but it was delicious. I would like to stay here again when I visit Kyoto.

    Unchanging comfort

This was my first stay in about two years. The comfort is still outstanding, just as always. The breakfast is also very delicious. I’m looking forward to soaking in the Onsen again and spending a relaxing time.

    Enjoy Kyoto in Winter

The spacious, comfortable spa—especially the semi-open-air area—was wonderful. I also appreciated being able to freely take bottled water at the spa. The relaxed in-room dining, the softly designed guest room with curved lines, and the Heavenly Bed were all extremely comfortable. I was able to fully relax and unwind right up until French lunch the next day. Next time, I’d love to try the pool and fitness facilities. I really like Miyako Hotel’s warm, unpretentious service.

The Westin Kyoto for the New Year Holidays

Perhaps because there were fewer international tourists, the Club Lounge felt calm and comfortable. The staff were all very hospitable, and in a good way it left a different impression compared with the end of last year. I wonder if it was simply too crowded back then. Also, due to my own misunderstanding, I had to ask to change the breakfast venue at short notice (I’m truly sorry about that), but they handled it flexibly and I really appreciated it. The spa is as amazing as ever, so I highly recommend it. I’d love to stay again this year.

Although it was just a one-night, two-day stay, we were able to fully enjoy the luxurious space.

This was my first stay since the full renovation. One of the reasons I chose this Hotel in Kyoto was being able to enjoy an Onsen, and I was completely satisfied with everything—service, guest room, Facility, and meals. The club lounge offered high-quality food, drinks, and desserts, but I would have liked a bit more variety. I would love to stay again.

    The Room and the lar...

The Room and the large public bath were excellent. It’s a small detail, but it was very convenient that the faucets in the large public bath could be turned on and off by yourself. Breakfast was very delicious. They even had gelato for dessert, and our child was delighted. We had lounge access included, but children are only allowed until 5:30 PM, so we couldn’t go as parents either. When we visited after 11:00 AM the next morning, they were cleaning up after breakfast, so it didn’t feel like things were running exactly on schedule. We would be very happy if you could review the lounge hours and service details. We asked in advance for detailed information such as about souvenir shops, and your accurate answers each time were extremely helpful. Thank you very much.

    Even during the cold...

Even during the cold wave, we had a very comfortable stay. The reasons we chose to make a Reservation were its location in Kyoto, the spacious facilities, parking, the Onsen, and the shuttle bus. (The Diamond member benefits were also a nice bonus.) With snow in the forecast, we switched from driving to taking the train at short notice, but access was still very convenient. The white tea fragrance and the Junior Suite interior were also very relaxing and comfortable. This time we checked in early. The club lounge was not as crowded as during the Obon holidays, so we could unwind. (The lemonade was delicious.) All staff members we passed in the hallways and at the front desk were polite and left a great impression. Thanks to you, we felt truly refreshed. Thank you very much.

    A Comfortable Hotel Stay

This was my first stay at The Westin Miyako Hotel, and among all the hotels I’ve stayed at, I was truly impressed by the excellent hospitality—from the front desk and staff who guided us to the shuttle bus driver. The room was very comfortable, and the Onsen was wonderful—I went in many times. The breakfast buffet had a great variety and was delicious; I wanted to try more, but couldn’t finish everything, which I regret. I would love to stay again.

Just the two of us—my daughter and me.

Although it was cold with light snow flurries, we had a wonderful time. We stayed on a Sunday and were surprised by how crowded the dining room was, but despite the crowds, thanks to the staff we were able to enjoy a delicious meal in a pleasant atmosphere. We also enjoyed the baths, took time to rest both mind and body, and went home feeling refreshed and recharged. Thank you very much.

    Once the New Year mo...

Once the New Year mood has faded around this time, I start craving a refresh. This is one of my favorite Hotels because, rather than traveling far to an Onsen resort, I can enjoy a beautiful, spacious spa nearby and still feel like I’ve escaped everyday life. This time again I booked a Plan with breakfast, but the dinner buffet was also one of my goals, so I enjoyed two indulgent meals at the Hotel. The Diamond benefit Room upgrade wasn’t possible due to full occupancy, but by chance we were on the top floor. Even without a Heian-kyo view Room, we could overlook central Kyoto—the view was wonderful and the night scenery was beautiful—so we were very satisfied. Right after check-in, we went straight to Spa Kacho. It wasn’t crowded, so we could relax in the spacious setting. We made good use of it again in the morning! The SOTHYS amenities also feel great—I like them so much that I use them at home as well. After dinner, we also used the in-Room bath. With a separate washing area and clean, user-friendly fixtures and fittings indoors, we were able to spend our time in the Room comfortably right up until check-out. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection as well. We went in before peak hours, so we could eat at a relaxed pace and try small portions of many different items. The live kitchen offerings were especially varied—in a good way, it was hard to choose. All of the Hotel staff provided excellent service, and we truly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely return. Thank you very much.

This was my first stay in a year and a half. Both check-in and check-out were very smooth, and I was impressed when I was told, “We have it ready in your Room,” regarding a request from my previous stay—truly what I expect from Miyako. Kacho was as clean as ever and very comfortable. The lounge and Rakuu were both crowded, but the staff were attentive, so we were able to enjoy our meal. I look forward to visiting again.

    Sincere Preservation of Cultural Heritage

I visited Kyoto for the first time in a while on weekend business. As it was also the season when hotel prices in Kyoto are at their calmest, I stayed at KASUIEN at Miyako Hotel. It was a truly wonderful and rare experience. A masterpiece by architect Togo Murano has been carefully renovated by Takushi Nakamura and Obayashi Corporation, preserving the original form and philosophy as much as possible without unnecessary changes. The guest room wet areas have been upgraded with Onsen water, making them both luxurious and highly functional—an impression of meticulous, sincere work. (I imagine it cost an enormous amount, including seismic retrofitting and code compliance; above all, applause to the owner, Kintetsu.) The planning that takes advantage of Higashiyama’s topography, deep eaves, a gentle 2 sun 5 bu roof pitch, delicate wooden fittings, and Murano’s dry landscape courtyard garden—its tension, grace, and beautiful order are deeply moving. The hospitality is also excellent: like a blend of a Hotel’s ease with the personal care of a long-established Ryokan. Compared with international chain hotels in Kyoto in the same price range, I think it offers outstanding value. What disappointed me was that the breakfast buffet lacked both quality and variety—and that the spatial design of the buffet restaurant, Onsen Facility area, and lobby felt dull. It was as if my dreamlike time at KASUIEN was suddenly pulled back into reality. Still, perhaps all energy and budget were poured into renovating KASUIEN. In Tokyo as well, one of Togo Murano’s signature works—the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa (widely known for Hiten no Ma)—is scheduled to be demolished. In front of real estate value driven by floor-area efficiency alone, it doesn’t stand a chance. In the end, does everything depend on an owner’s pride?

    For my wife's birthday

I stayed with my wife and young child to celebrate her birthday. My wife and child loved the SPA and were very pleased. Although the building itself looks old, the room and interior were very clean. Including sightseeing in Kyoto, we had a wonderful time. The request I mentioned in the comment section during the reservation was responded to politely. While there have been times when I didn't receive replies after making reservations on IKYU.com, this hotel promptly replied right after booking, which made me think it truly is a first-class hotel.

    The Best Hotel

The Room was clean and lovely, but the staff's hospitality was truly outstanding. I was impressed by the polite language of the parking security staff, and during check-in, the staff kindly initiated conversation and provided courteous guidance. During both breakfast and dinner, they offered service with subtle yet pleasant conversations, making it a truly delightful experience. It was an exceptional Hotel that makes me want to stay again.
