    Another perfect stay!

The staff seemed even more attentive this time, creating a very pleasant impression (they have always been polite and kind). Although I arrived before check-in time, I was informed that the Room was ready, and I was promptly guided to it. Thank you very much. The lounge after 5 PM was calm and relaxing, allowing me to enjoy delicious drinks and have a fulfilling time. Breakfast was truly delightful! The breakfast here is one of the highlights of staying at this Hotel. The staff in charge of rice balls and noodles were particularly friendly and welcoming. The public bath is always clean and comfortable no matter when you visit, making me want to bathe multiple times. It’s safe to say that this is my favorite feature of the Hotel. Thank you for taking care of me again during my stay. I look forward to visiting Kyoto again just so I can stay at this Hotel once more!

I was looking forward to staying at Spa Kacho, but unfortunately, it was under maintenance and unavailable during my visit, which was a bit disappointing. However, at check-in, I received an Onsen bath powder for Keage Onsen and used the room bath for the first time. The automatic water filling system was very convenient. Adding the provided bath powder and relaxing in the room bath turned out to be quite enjoyable. For breakfast, the kiwi juice placed next to the orange juice was incredibly delicious.

During its time as the Miyako Hotel under the Westin brand, I appreciated the 24-hour butler service and have stayed here several times. The uphill entrance brings back fond memories, though the lobby has been modernized, reflecting how even long-established hotels adapt to changing times. The bed, including the linens, was very comfortable. The club floor during happy hour was fully occupied. The French restaurant I tried for dinner for the first time offered excellent dishes with well-paired wines chosen by the staff. For those who enjoyed individually served breakfast plates here in the past, the buffet might feel slightly disappointing; however, overall, I had a pleasant stay thanks to attentive and friendly staff.

    A Relaxing Accommodation

A Ryokan (Sukiya-style annex "Kasui-en") nestled behind The Westin Miyako Kyoto Hotel, this historical building has been comfortably renovated for convenience and offers a very relaxing atmosphere. The proprietress and staff are very friendly, making guests feel at ease with their warm conversations, creating a pleasant and carefree stay. Each room features an Onsen bath made of Koyamaki wood, which warms the body thoroughly—perfect for taking more than four baths during winter. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again next year.

    Thank you very much.

This was my first stay at the accommodation, and I am grateful for the hospitality that exceeded my expectations. I was especially impressed by the thoughtfulness of all the staff. The breakfast was also very delicious. I look forward to staying again during the cherry blossom season. Thank you for taking care of me this time.

Excellent. The staff are truly wonderful. Please consider offering tastier snacks in the lounge and managing the alcohol better. The Room and amenities are perfect.

    It became a wonderful memory.

We stayed at the accommodation to celebrate my daughter's birthday. When making the reservation, I mentioned this, and at check-in, we were told, "We have prepared a small cake for you." It was a very cute strawberry whole cake. Such thoughtful gestures truly make us happy. The lounge, onsen, and breakfast were all wonderful. This is a hotel that makes you want to come back again. Thank you!

I rated the guest room a 4 because I noticed some dust on the clock, but everything else was excellent. My nephew was thrilled with the buffet, saying it was the best. The Onsen facility was always being cleaned by staff, making it a very comfortable experience.

A blend of tradition and modernity with rich hospitality passed down through generations

Stayed at Kasuien on the final day of a 4-night, 5-day trip to Kyoto. The previous night was spent in the main building of The Westin Miyako Kyoto, enjoying the elegant design by Murano Togo. Kasuien, located within The Westin Miyako Kyoto, is one of Murano's masterpieces and is renowned as a post-war sukiya-style architectural gem. Its serene beauty leaves everyone in awe, not just architecture enthusiasts. At check-in on the 7th-floor elevator hall, we were greeted by the hostess who guided us to Kasuien while sharing stories about Murano's architecture. Passing through the gate revealed its famous angles, courtyard, and entrance—an exciting journey from start to finish. The guest room "Higashiyama," renovated in 2020, offers a calm space with great views while maintaining Kasuien’s concept: harmonizing traditional sukiya-style with modern aesthetics (modernism). Although I mentioned my disappointment at not being able to see iconic features like the "white sand courtyard," "gourd motifs," or Murano’s signature overlapping roofs from our room, I was graciously shown Room "Tsuki-7." This room provides an unparalleled view of these elements and is considered a space that most respects and preserves Murano Togo's original vision. It was truly moving—thank you so much! There’s too much to express here; I plan to create a video later. It was absolutely wonderful! Dining at Kasuien would have made it even more perfect if possible...

A Murano architectural design utilizing the unique terrain of Higashiyama

I stayed in Kyoto for a 4-night, 5-day trip. One of the themes of this trip was staying at a Hotel designed by Togo Murano, and this was my second time utilizing such an accommodation. The main purpose of my visit was to stay at Kasuien the following day, so I planned to enjoy Murano's architecture by staying at this Hotel beforehand. I had reserved a Junior Suite with lounge access but was upgraded to a Heian-Kyo View room upon check-in. This room had an excellent view and was very satisfying—thank you! For meals, I chose dinner at Nanzenji Kikusui and only evaluated the breakfast buffet here. As is common in many Hotels in Kyoto, the buffet felt overcrowded and noisy, so I opted for Japanese-style breakfast on the following day instead. The bath facilities were reportedly renovated; however, some guests from certain countries were quite loud, making it difficult to relax. This raised some questions about how such facilities are designed (the bath experience at Kasuien the next day was exceptional). Overall hospitality felt somewhat disconnected from Murano's architectural elegance. Regarding Togo Murano’s architecture: This Hotel has been renovated while preserving symbolic designs by Mr. Murano as "heritage." Notable features include: - The spiral staircase in the West Wing: Known as "Murano Togo’s signature," it appears heart-shaped when viewed from below on the first floor and retains its original graceful curves and floating steps. - The lobby and banquet entrance: These areas feature curved walls and staircases that convey an elegant atmosphere reminiscent of their era. - Exterior design: The curved balconies blend seamlessly with Higashiyama’s landscape through its skyline silhouette—a hallmark of Murano's design. The architectural concept harmonizes with its sloped terrain in Higashiyama, creating overlapping structures that appear integrated into nature like part of a mountain itself. Design-wise, it embodies “Japanese spirit within Western style,” characterized by “graceful curves” and “humanistic elegance.” While employing Western modernist techniques like curved railings or lighting arrangements typical of Japan’s delicate aesthetics or flexibility are also incorporated. Preserving these elements during renovations reflects efforts similar across other Hotels valuing heritage—please continue managing this property with care!

We stayed with children. There was no upgrade with the Diamond benefits, nor was there an explanation about the inability to upgrade this time. If upgrades are not possible, it would be nice to have late check-out as part of the Diamond benefits. There was also no explanation about amenities for children. Kacho is convenient and easy to use as towels are provided, allowing you to travel light. The space is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating areas and mineral water available, which is very helpful. We booked a Christmas dinner through IKYU.com while staying on a breakfast-included plan. The children were delighted with the gift of sweets they received. It might have been better if there had been more emphasis on Christmas-themed dishes. Used plates and glasses were promptly cleared away, making dining stress-free—wonderful! Breakfast was also delicious. The guest room was clean, and overall service was excellent. Kacho is great too; we will definitely return!

    A Hotel with outstanding hospitality.

We were well taken care of by everyone, including the manager. Our Room was upgraded as well. From the greetings of the cleaning staff to the attentiveness of the manager, everyone's hospitality was exceptional. We also attended a Hotel-hosted dinner show, which showcased outstanding organization and attention to detail. We will definitely stay again. The handling of any issues was efficient, allowing us to wait with peace of mind.

Luxury Hotel, a place to relax and rejuvenate in a serene environment.

I had always wanted to stay here, and it was just as luxurious as I had imagined. The staff's hospitality was excellent, always stopping to bow when passing in the hallway. The room was spacious, and the Heian-kyo view with autumn leaves from the window was incredibly soothing. The hotel’s 135-year history exudes a sense of grandeur while maintaining a modern and contemporary design. The expansive, beautiful garden and stunning scenery were truly captivating. Breakfast offered a wide variety of delicious options; I regret not being able to try everything. However, while the large public bath is an onsen, it lacked distinctive features despite my high expectations, which left me slightly disappointed. That said, bathing in the spacious facility while enjoying views of the garden provided a peaceful escape from everyday noise. I hope this historic accommodation continues to shine with pride in its legacy as an established brand. Thank you for your hospitality. One note: there were times when tables in the lounge were not cleared after use, leaving me unsure if I could sit there comfortably.

    Comfortable Hotel Life

We enjoyed the Westin Club with a suite stay again, and for the first time, we were upgraded to a Heian-kyo view room where we could enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto from daytime to nighttime. Thank you very much. The spacious and clean onsen facility, the helpful satellite at Kyoto Station, and the convenient shuttle service provided the usual satisfying experience. We look forward to staying again.

Payment at the front desk was unorganized and surprising.

Parking is available from the morning of your stay until 5:00 PM on the day of checkout, which was surprising at first. However, the handling of Diamond Member benefits was unclear, and the processing at checkout was careless, which was disappointing. It did not feel like it belonged to the same group as The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo or Nagoya Marriott.

Close to Gion with a wonderful Onsen, simply the best!

We stayed here again this year following our visit last year. The location is convenient, being close to Gion and Kawaramachi. We stayed in a Deluxe Twin Room on the 9th floor, where we could enjoy the view of trees just starting to show autumn colors, which was lovely. The Onsen was spacious and allowed us to relax comfortably. We would love to stay here again. This time, we only had the breakfast buffet and did not use the restaurant for dinner.

    The spa is amazing.

The IKYU Diamond benefits were not applied, and I had to request parking service and credit myself. Although it was not very crowded, no room upgrade was offered. Other than that, the staff were kind and provided warm hospitality unique to an established Hotel. The teppanyaki dinner and breakfast buffet were both extremely delicious. It is a Hotel I would like to stay at again if given the opportunity.

Terms and Conditions for Spa Use

To ensure everyone can enjoy the spa comfortably, we feel it is necessary to reconsider the usage conditions. While many well-behaved young children exist, some foreign tourists' children seemed to use the facility like a heated pool, possibly due to cultural differences. Their guardians made no effort to teach proper manners. Booking through IKYU.com often comes with certain benefits. If these promises cannot be reliably fulfilled, it would be better not to include them as benefits to avoid leaving guests with a negative impression. The staff handling check-in and check-out may need additional training as flexible responses are required in such roles. Perhaps our expectations were too high. However, the restaurant staff provided exceptional service.

From the moment we got out of the car at the entrance, everything from check-in to being shown to our room was incredibly smooth and pleasant. The SPA exceeded expectations with its comfort. Since it was a weekday, it wasn’t crowded, allowing us to relax and enjoy it fully. The Club Lounge offers great views and attentive service; however, alcohol service starts at 5 PM, and only sparkling wine—not champagne—was available, which was a bit disappointing. Still, they made cocktails upon request, so we had fun trying different options. The breakfast restaurant has very high ceilings that create an open atmosphere. They kindly asked us about our seating preferences so we could enjoy a relaxing meal in our preferred spot. The menu seemed focused on healthy dishes with plenty of vegetables and a good selection of Japanese cuisine. I appreciated this concept; however, my husband found the lack of meat dishes somewhat unsatisfying. Most guests were international visitors but maintained a calm atmosphere that didn’t bother us at all. All hotel staff were polite and friendly with warm smiles, reflecting the high quality of this accommodation.

    Perfect for special occasions.

I stayed at the accommodation for my wife's anniversary, including meals and spa use. Although I had reserved a Superior Room, it was upgraded as part of the Diamond Member benefits. A birthday gift and a message card were placed in the room, allowing us to have a wonderful time.

    The spa is excellent.

The spa and Room are very comfortable, and this is my third stay. However, I was a bit disappointed that the welcome sweets have significantly downgraded compared to before. The IKYU benefit of a Room upgrade was not available this time, even though it was a weekday, which was unfortunate. For dinner, I had the buffet; only the tempura, salmon roe sushi, curry, and sweets were delicious. As for breakfast rice balls, it depends on who makes them—this time they were tasty. The omelet was also delicious. The lounge's cocktail hour still offers only light snacks with limited drink options as usual. I love this place because the spa is spacious and clean with great amenities. Thank you very much!

    Excellent hospitality

This was my first stay, and although it was only for one night, I had a very pleasant experience. For dinner, I chose a place a bit further away from the hotel with great ambiance and delicious food. The breakfast offered a wide variety of options and was also very tasty. The bed suited me perfectly, providing an incredibly comfortable sleep and refreshing wake-up. Although the accommodation is slightly far from Kyoto Station, making it more convenient to take a taxi after reaching the nearest train station as it's quite a walk from there. One small note: there were no shower caps among the amenities provided, so if you prefer not to wash your hair during your stay, it's better to bring your own. The view from the room was absolutely stunning. Thank you to all the staff!

    It was a wonderful stay!

We always stay at our favorite nearby accommodation as a couple, and this hotel had caught our attention for some time. This time, we stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and the satisfaction of the dinner was an important factor in our choice. Having visited the Hibiya bistro by "Dominique Bouchet" several times as a couple, we were always impressed by their cuisine and hospitality, making it one of our favorites. While searching for hotels in Kyoto on IKYU.com, I came across "Le Teppanyaki," supervised by Dominique Bouchet in their dining section, which led us to make a reservation. We chose a Junior Suite and arrived much earlier than the check-in time but were able to relax while enjoying the view from the "Club Lounge." After checking in, we had plenty of time before dinner to explore the luxurious garden on-site, enjoy the spacious pool, and indulge in Onsen and sauna at the lavishly designed "SPA Kacho" (also revisited it on the following morning). Then came dinner at "Le Teppanyaki." The design from its entrance to its teppanyaki room felt extraordinary; my wife and I took photos along the way as our excitement grew even more. At the teppanyaki table itself, everything—from technique to taste to hospitality—was exceptional. It was truly delicious and enjoyable—a perfect fit for celebrating our wedding anniversary with unforgettable memories (even finding that champagne prices on their menu were reasonable). Choosing such an elegant yet comfortable hotel with luxurious use of space made this wedding anniversary celebration deeply satisfying! There was just one thing that felt slightly “wasteful” (and I apologize sincerely if this sounds critical): after dinner when visiting their bar thinking “let’s have one drink,” despite its prime location offering potential views outside—it lacked windows entirely within its design which seemed overly formal perhaps? A terrace would be ideal during good seasons! As titled: “A Wonderful Stay!” Thank you very much!

    First-time Accommodation

As a Diamond member, I was looking forward to my stay, but unfortunately, I couldn't get an upgraded room. I was also unable to access the club lounge, which I had read about in reviews and was excited to experience. Even if the room upgrade wasn't possible, I had hoped at least for lounge access, so it was truly disappointing. Additionally, there was a dead spider near the toilet door, which added to my disappointment.

As a local, I enjoyed the "Heian-kyo View."

Stylishly designed guest rooms with high-quality beds and linens. However, the bathrobes are stiff and heavy. I enjoy spending time in the lounge at each hotel, but here, the selection of sweets and snacks was so limited that it left us speechless despite being aware beforehand. We even exchanged glances in disbelief. I might skip the lounge next time. The spa is beautifully designed with a luxurious and relaxing atmosphere. The water quality feels like an Onsen, though not quite. Breakfast focuses on Japanese cuisine with Kyoto-style flavors, carefully prepared and delicious. However, I was extremely disappointed by the rice from "Hachidaime Gihey." Opening the pot was disheartening—the rice seemed overpacked into a large pot, resulting in crushed grains that lacked shine and felt heavy. Even their handmade rice balls could have been much better if they used higher-quality rice. Overall, after years since my last visit, I still think it's a great Hotel. The staff provided excellent service with a pleasant demeanor. Although room rates skyrocketed after renovations, I plan to return again someday. Due to its high price point, I rate it 4 stars out of 5.

Delight in the breathtaking view of the Gozan Okuribi and exceptional hospitality.

I stayed with the Gozan Okuribi Dinner and Accommodation plan. Due to the heat, I didn’t feel like sightseeing in Kyoto city and arrived a little earlier than the check-in time. When I asked at the lobby about nearby cafes to pass the time, they kindly allowed me to check into my room early. After refreshing myself in the large public bath, I headed to the dinner venue. The dinner venue was lovely, and the food was delicious. Although the room was smaller than expected, I could enjoy watching Gozan Okuribi from both the rooftop and my room. The bath in the large public bath area was also excellent. At checkout, there was a mix-up with my request for luggage delivery to a location near Kyoto Station, which caused some panic; however, a staff member promptly delivered it by taxi for me. From start to finish, their attentive service exceeded expectations—I am very satisfied! I would love to stay here again next time!

    Lounge

I regularly stay here for its excellent facilities and cost performance. The Heavenly Bed is so comfortable that I often find myself oversleeping, and I always have a great night's sleep. The food is delicious, so I order room service every time. However, I've started to notice more instances of subpar customer service. Both during my previous stay and this time, the foreign female staff in the lounge had an unpleasant attitude. Perhaps because I look a bit younger? It felt like there was a noticeable difference in how she treated me compared to other guests (especially male ones). This time her attitude reminded me of my last visit when I also found her behavior off-putting. The young male staff wandering around the breakfast area were also unhelpful. When I asked if I should get tea myself or wait for it to be served, they simply told me to wait but never brought it over. In the end, I had to call another staff member to assist me. It made me wonder what their role on the floor actually was. It feels like there's been an increase in younger employees without adequate training. I still love the facilities and plan to stay again in the future, but I'd appreciate some improvements in service quality!
