A Japanese-style Hotel nestled near the approach to Kiyomizu-dera, where you can experience the charm of Higashiyama.

Nestled in Higashiyama, a district rich in history and culture and home to many temples and shrines including Kiyomizu-dera and the Kyoto National Museum, Saka Hotel Kyoto sits on a quiet slope away from the bustle of the main streets—so serene you can almost hear the grass rustle. Though a Hotel, it is filled with Japanese functionality and warmth, offering travelers after a busy day a peaceful place to unwind and feel at ease. After a deep sleep wrapped in our carefully selected beds, start your morning slowly with freshly brewed coffee, then head out for an early walk through Higashiyama to discover a side of the town you won’t see during the day. A relaxing bath after your stroll and breakfast will make the start of your new day in Kyoto truly unforgettable.

  • We stayed for one night with breakfast and dinner included. It was a Hotel with the warm hospitality of a Ryokan, and the meals were delicious—my elderly mother (88) was so satisfied that she said she wants to come again. The Room was clean and quiet, and we were able to relax comfortably even with three people using twin beds plus an extra bed (which was excellent). For dinner, we enjoyed a hamo kaiseki course—beautifully presented and carefully prepared—and savored it with fine Kyoto sake. After the meal, my wife and I had wine and whisky in the lobby lounge, and slept very well that night. The next morning, in the cool, refreshing air, we walked to Kiyomizu-dera early for a peaceful visit before the crowds arrived.Breakfast was also wonderful—the rice was outstanding, especially with grilled nori. From arrival to checkout, we felt completely relaxed.Thank you very much.

  • Awaji conger eel “otoshi” (image)

A Kyoto Summer Tradition: Enjoy Wild Pike Conger Delivered from Awaji Island, the Home of Hamo (6/15–8/31)

When it comes to iconic summer ingredients in Kyoto, none is more representative than conger eel (hamo).
At Saka no Hotel Kyoto, we are pleased to offer a special summer-only Plan featuring wild hamo from Awaji Island—widely regarded as the home of hamo—available for a limited time from June 15 (Mon) to August 31 (Mon), 2026.

From Miketsukuni Awaji Island to Kyoto
Since ancient times, Wakasa, Shima, and Awaji Island supplied seafood and other foods to the Imperial Court and were known as Miketsukuni. In an era without modern transportation, obtaining truly fresh fish in Kyoto during the intense summer heat was extremely difficult. Even so, hamo—renowned for its vitality—could survive the long journey alive all the way from distant Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. Treasured for this reason, it is said that Kyoto’s rich culture of hamo cuisine flourished over time.

    ■ [Hamo Kaiseki] A Two-Meal Stay Enjoying “Hamo,” the Taste That Signals Summer’s Arrival in Kyoto

A luxurious summer-only feast showcasing wild Awaji Island hamo prepared in a variety of ways.
Wild hamo delivered from its famed home of Awaji Island is served through multiple preparations, including classic hamo otoshi. The main dish is a hot pot enjoyed in an Awaji-style preparation known as “hamo suki nabe.” Simmered with sweet Awaji onions in a richly flavored broth made from hamo bones and trimmings, this deeply satisfying dish lets you savor the harmony of onion sweetness and umami-laden broth coating each bite.

    Period: June 15 (Mon) – August 31 (Mon), 2026

    ■ [Kyoto Tofu & Seasonal Fish Hot Pot Kaiseki] A Two-Meal Stay Featuring Blessings from the Waters off Awaji Island and Kyoto Yudofu

A refreshing summer favorite: lightly cooked hamo shabu-shabu.
This kaiseki features seasonal fresh fish delivered from Miketsukuni Awaji Island paired with yudofu made with Kyoto-style momen tofu. In summer, “Awaji hamo” is used as the seasonal fish; enjoy it shabu-shabu style—briefly swished alongside Kujo green onions and Kyoto mizuna—to bring out its delicate flavor.

*During the summer season, the hot pot will be served as a seasonal pot featuring “hamo shabu-shabu and Kyoto momen tofu.”

Recommended for guests who want to enjoy seasonal flavors unique to Kyoto.
Please take this opportunity to book our special summer-only Plan.
