“Serenity for the Soul, Your Ideal Everyday” — A Small Hotel by a Lakeside in Tango

About a 2.5-hour drive from central Osaka and Kyoto, Lake Hanareko—the largest freshwater lake in Kyoto Prefecture—lies in the Tango area, where beautiful, unspoiled scenery still remains. Close to Ine’s Funaya boat houses and Amanohashidate, “HOTEL & Kotei Soka -Soka-” is a small Hotel that celebrated its grand opening in May 2024 on the lakeshore. Ripples left by waterfowl on the surface, the splash of wildlife diving in, crisp air at dawn, a sun-dappled terrace beneath swaying willows, the colors of the evening sky, abundant local ingredients nurtured by Tango’s climate, carefully selected natural wines, an Onsen to soothe your body—and a comfortable space surrounded by interior design and art chosen with love. A calm heart and an ideal everyday life await you here.

  • Everything was excellent—no complaints at all. It was a truly memorable Hotel. The food in particular was outstanding; it may have been the best of any place we’ve stayed so far. Not only was it delicious, but the portions were generous—we’re big eaters, and even we left completely full. The Room was also wonderful, with a lovely view of Lake Biwa. Simply the best. To prove it, as soon as we got home we made another Reservation for the crab course—it's six months away, but we’re already excited to enjoy your料理 again. Thank you in advance, and we look forward to our next stay.

  • Unfortunately, it rained, but even in the rain the garden, the Room, and the views were wonderful. Above all, the service was outstanding, and we received heartfelt hospitality from everyone.I have stayed at many Accommodations before, but this Accommodation offered more than just polite service—your thoughtful attention to every detail came so naturally, and it made for a truly pleasant stay. And the food was absolutely delicious!!! It was so good that even though I was full, I still had seconds of focaccia!!!My husband and I tried to decide what was the most delicious dish, but everything was so good we couldn’t choose just one (lol). The next day we stayed at another Accommodation, and I regretted not having a Multiple Night Stay here.We will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

Introduction of the Accommodation

View

Small art pieces and nature that enhance the Hotel

Inspired by the Nordic concept of “hygge.” In Danish, hygge refers to a cozy, comfortable space and the warm, uplifting moments that come with it. We’ve added thoughtful touches throughout so guests can experience hygge for themselves. One of them is the interior design created by our team of creators. Simply spending time in this simple yet refined space—rich in natural wood—brings a quiet sense of calm.

Room Types to Suit Your Travel Needs

With the sea nearby and snowfall not uncommon in winter, this area offers a different side of Kyoto—one where gentle nature welcomes you, unlike the ancient capital many people imagine. The private villa “Kotei” features a garden and pool where you can fully enjoy this open, generous landscape, and in winter you can spend cozy moments by the wood-burning stove. We also offer a variety of Room types, including Concept Rooms with view baths and terraces for relaxing, Standard Rooms with charming window-side daybeds, and Workation Rooms equipped with a desk.

Onsen

Refresh your mind and body in the Onsen.

At the back of the garden, there is an Onsen building. Enjoy an open-air soak while gazing out over the garden—an extraordinary moment that lets you fully escape the everyday. Let your fatigue and tension melt away in the warm water, and feel your senses come into balance. Hatchohama Kohama Onsen is a sodium- and calcium-chloride spring, said to be beneficial for neuralgia, muscle pain, chronic digestive issues, and sensitivity to cold.

Sample Meal Options

A candlelit restaurant offering exciting wood-fired cuisine and natural wines

Seasonal creative cuisine rooted in Italian cooking and inspired by Tango’s local specialties, showcasing the bounty of the Sea of Japan throughout the year. Fresh seafood personally sourced by the chef, organic vegetables from local farmers, all prepared with a focus on a wood-fired oven and open flame. Beautifully presented dishes made with peak-season local ingredients, paired with carefully selected natural wines chosen by our selector. Softly flickering candlelight makes your evening truly unforgettable.

Lake Garden

A lake garden where lush greenery and flowers sway in the breeze.

In the Meadow Garden, where herbs and trees sway in the breeze, the Fire Lounge invites you to unwind while watching the flickering flames. Enjoy a romantic, tranquil chill time as you take in the ever-changing colors of the sky and gaze up at the sparkling stars. A popular spot to stop by after the spa or to cool off in the evening breeze.

Notice from the Accommodation

  • A summer afternoon spent on the terrace.

A homemade wine mojito—perfect for a summer afternoon.

Before your eyes at Soka stretch Kyoto Prefecture’s largest lake, “Hanare Lake,” and a meadow garden swaying in the breeze.
It’s a view that gently calms the mind—simply by taking it in.

To help you enjoy your afternoon getaway alongside Tango’s beautiful scenery, we will launch the “Seasonal Afternoon Wine” Plan from spring 2026, pairing the four seasons with natural wines.
In spring, guests enjoyed a cherry-blossom-pink rosé while admiring Hanare Lake draped in blossoms right before them.

This limited-time wine is our homemade Wine Mojito, refreshingly scented with mint and rosemary freshly picked from the garden.
We craft natural wine in a mojito style.
Low in alcohol and easy to sip.
We hope you’ll enjoy it in a comfortable setting.

  • [Fire Lounge]

Reservations are now open for the Tango Autumn and Natural Wine Pairing Plan.

The theme of this four-part series is “My Own Harvest Festival.”

    Autumn has arrived in Tango.
As you recall the harvest scenes you passed along the way,
enjoy a glass of distinctive red wine with gentle sweetness and depth by the lakeside at sunset.

For our autumn selection, we chose “Arzan,” the winery’s final release.

We hope you enjoy this personal take on a harvest festival, with a thought for the winemaker.
