    I understood that it...

I understood that it is an old building, but I did not feel the level of satisfaction that matches the Accommodation Fee. I had been looking forward to the open-air bath since making the Reservation, and it was especially recommended at reception as well, so I used it with high expectations. However, on all three occasions—early evening, late night, and morning—it did not appear to be properly cleaned, which was very disappointing. In addition, a Room that seemed to be a guest lounge not only felt outdated in terms of Facility features, but also gave the impression of an incomplete renovation and lacked cleanliness. Overall, because my expectations were high, this ended up being a very disappointing trip. There may be circumstances such as staff shortages, but I would like you to first review cleaning and Facility maintenance.

Ideal for travel with babies and kids

As a “welcome baby” Accommodation, we were able to stay very comfortably. Both the large public bath and the private bath had baby tubs and bath chairs available, making it as easy to use as bathing at home. We also really appreciated the baby food available at the buffet. That said, there were only about two types of packaged baby food for each age range, so I wished there had been a bit more variety. Still, our baby ate well, so we were satisfied. As for the Room, it was a Japanese-style room that was comfortable and well-suited for a baby. However, for an age where they move around a lot, items like shoji screens, the landline phone, and the safe were at eye level and looked tempting to touch, which made us a little concerned. If I could be picky, it would have been perfect if there were loaner baby playpens. (Even as it is now, we had a very comfortable stay!) There are several sightseeing spots nearby as well, so we enjoyed our days out—overall it was a great Accommodation for a family trip.

    No repeat stays.

The buffet seems to be one of the Hotel’s selling points, but the staff capacity is completely overwhelmed by the number of guests entering the restaurant. Dinner was assigned a time slot and we were seated smoothly, but breakfast has no time slots, so if it overlaps with peak crowds you may have to wait a long time and waste valuable time. Also, the buffet layout feels too narrow for the number of people, and with serving carts as well you have to be extra careful. It was disappointing because I had high expectations. I probably won’t return.

    Tradition and Revolution

We originally visited for the kids’ park, but since our family has recently gotten into puzzle-solving, we made a Reservation with the mystery-solving Plan. The kids’ park was thrilling, and there was also an event called “Super Festival Stalls,” which they really enjoyed—so they had fun to the very end on both days before and after our stay. The balance scooter was especially a huge hit. The buffet selection was excellent. It did get crowded at times with families due to the season, but perhaps we went at a good time—the baths were quiet, and I was able to relax and enjoy them with my daughter. It seems you can make a Reservation for the fishing park from 2:00 PM, but it fills up quickly unless you book early that day. We managed to get in at the last minute and had our catch for dinner as salt-grilled fish and fried fish. It was delicious. We thought the mystery-solving would be easy, but it turned out to be very satisfying even for beginners like us. Overall, we were extremely satisfied! Thank you to all the staff running “Super Festival Stalls.”

    The buffet is delicious.

Dinner buffet is split into two 90-minute sessions. I chose the first one starting at 6:00 PM. The selection was decent, and items were replenished quickly when they ran out. The quality was good, with plenty of vegetables and many healthy options. Everything was delicious—no disappointments. I just wish the coffee had been a bit better, but overall I was satisfied. Breakfast is first-come, first-served via a ticket machine starting from 7:00 AM; when I arrived 5 minutes early, I was already 30th in line. I recommend going early for breakfast, as there may be a wait before 7:30 AM. The Onsen facilities were nice, with both a standard Onsen and a “beauty bath” (pH 7.5) available in the open-air bath only. Since it was the season for bugs, those who are not comfortable with insects should be aware. I had no issues, but my husband said he got bitten by something both at night and in the morning. Still, the sense of openness is outstanding. You need to bring towels from your Room, but the bathing area also provides shower caps and hair ties. It would have been nice to have hair treatment available before using the hair dryer. There is no toner or lotion in the Room; they are provided in the large public bath. No samue provided—yukata only (women can choose from colored yukata). The beds are Simmons. The pillow was so good that I’m considering buying one; when I asked, it seems to be a France Bed low-rebound pillow type. I looked it up and found there are several types, but I don’t know which exact product this Hotel uses. If you could tell me the product name, I would appreciate it. Overall, both the meals and baths were very satisfying.

The open-air hot spring bath and the Shinshu beef kaiseki meal are exceptional.

I found this site and, as a birthday gift for my wife, I splurged more than on our usual trips and made a Reservation for the “Shinshu Beef Tasting Kaiseki” on the Sky Comfort Floor. When we checked in, thanks to the Hotel’s consideration, we were upgraded to a Luxury Suite at no extra charge. It was truly eye-opening. That alone would have been more than enough, but dinner—the “Shinshu Beef Tasting Kaiseki”—was also outstanding: sweet and tender beef, a rich aroma, and exceptional hospitality. This has definitely become one of the Hotels we want to return to. Thank you very much. My wife was delighted as well. The open-air bath was also wonderful—just like in the photos on the site—and incredibly relaxing.

    Plenty of baths.

There were lots of baths, and it was fun going around them. The Facility felt a bit old, but it wasn’t dirty. Fishing was enjoyable, and I was happy to be able to eat what I caught for dinner.

Packed with features the whole family can enjoy across three generations.

We stayed as three generations, including our grandchildren in 3rd and 5th grade. With the Room, Onsen, meals, karaoke, table tennis, and plenty of entertainment options, we all had a great time together. It made perfect sense why this place is so popular with families. There were six of us in total. Although there are various guest room types, everyone wanted beds, so we chose two Western-style Rooms on the Sky Comfort Floor. Because the Rooms are close to a square shape, the first Room still felt quite spacious even with four beds. The second Room (with two beds) had a roomy seating area and floor-to-ceiling windows that made it bright and comfortable. They also arranged for our Rooms to be next to each other, which was very convenient for going back and forth. At the buffet there were carts for carrying trays, which the kids found very handy. There was a wide variety of dishes, including lots of staple options—so many that it was hard to choose depending on how hungry we were. We added the all-you-can-drink option as well; with all the trips back and forth to pick different drinks, 90 minutes felt a bit short. For breakfast we arrived around 7:30 a.m., checked in at the entrance touch panel, and waited about 20 minutes; however, we could see our progress on an information board on the wall. Once seated, breakfast actually felt more relaxed than dinner. The Onsen alternates between men and women by day (today vs. tomorrow), so we pushed ourselves to try all four baths—and everyone especially loved both the riverside open-air bath at Takiiwa-no-Yu (right next to the stream) and the garden large bath at Iwa-no-Yu with scenery like something out of a Ghibli film. While it’s understandable that towels need to be brought from the guest Room, since the provided plastic bag is rather small, it would be helpful if you could consider offering a larger gusseted spa bag so guests can easily fit clothes for changing along with pouches and other items inside. At both the restaurant and departure time you kindly agreed to take photos for us without hesitation, which became wonderful memories. We would love to visit again if we have another chance—thank you very much for your hospitality.

The meals and the open-air bath were excellent.

We stayed for one night during Golden Week with our child. Since it was raining, the kids’ park was a big help. Due to the limit on the number of guests, we had to line up a few times, but we were able to get in quickly. The view from the Room wasn’t great—mostly rooftops and the parking lot—but the Room itself felt clean and spacious, and we had no complaints. The meals were excellent, with everything from standard options to creative dishes. There were two baths; we especially liked the riverside open-air bath. The open-air bath was clean, we could hear the sound of the river, and in the morning we even saw a mother deer and her fawn on the opposite bank. This Accommodation stood out for its great meals and open-air bath.

A Trip to Reunite with Your Best Friend

I have stayed here several times and love it because the Room is spacious and comes with an open-air bath. This time, I invited friends for a girls’ trip, recommending it as a Hotel I truly like. My friend who came from out of town was happy, saying the bath was great and the food was delicious, but for me it was an unpleasant start. Even though I called in advance about the bed arrangement in the Room, it was not set up as requested. Regarding parking: this part is on me because I had not informed you beforehand that I have a disability, but even after showing my disability certificate to staff when parking, the front desk called and asked suspiciously, “Is there anyone in your party who has difficulty walking?” Dinner started at 7:00 p.m., which was later than usual for us, but around 8:00 p.m. we were spoken to and I felt we couldn’t relax. Also, the hair dryer in the Room wasn’t working properly and couldn’t be used—I regretted not bringing my own. I have chosen this Room every time because I thought it was wonderful, but several issues that I hadn’t experienced before happened all at once this time, making it feel like a disappointing stay.

    It was disappointing.

I arrived a little after 6:00 p.m., but no one greeted me at the entrance, and I had to carry my luggage up a long staircase to the front desk by myself. At check-in, the male staff member explained the facilities so quickly that I could hardly understand him, and his attitude felt dismissive throughout, with no sense of sincerity. Even when I asked questions, his responses made it seem like it was my fault for not listening properly—this was not an appropriate way to welcome guests. I had also requested a larger yukata in advance, but it did not appear to have been prepared in my Room; he repeatedly told me to take one myself from a shelf on the first floor. It was an extremely unpleasant start to my stay.

    Stairs are not possible.

A Room accessible only by stairs is unacceptable, isn’t it? I did see later that it was stated in small print. Please stop using misleading practices. It calls your integrity into question.

    This was my first ti...

This was my first time staying here. At the front desk, I was assisted by a trainee (maybe?). The language and manner were so poor that I was disappointed. My mood dropped right from check-in. Room: The cleaning felt careless. Also, the outerwear provided smelled far too strong (like it hadn’t been washed...). Meals: The food was tasty, but the plates and spoons were dirty, so it would be better to choose clean ones. Open-air bath: This felt great. If I had to mention one thing, the hair dryer handle was slippery (like a train hand strap). Overall, I won’t be coming back for a second stay.

    A Long-Awaited Visit to Taki-no-Yu

This was our third stay at this Accommodation. The first time, the bath and meals were excellent. On our second stay, the food was quite disappointing. After some time away, we visited again with our family to relax and enjoy the bath. This time, the meals were much better than before, and the bath was wonderful as well. However, one disappointing thing was that when we arrived and entered the Room, a clipped toenail stuck into the sole of my foot. I’m sure it’s being cleaned, but… The flowers in the lobby were very beautiful.

    My elementary school...

My elementary school–aged son asked to go on a trip as his birthday present, and since it was also a milestone as he turned 10, we stayed for two nights this time. We had last visited around the time of the COVID travel support program, so it seems the kids didn’t remember much, but my son said both the baths and the meals were amazing. By the second night he was so moved that he even cried—it became a truly memorable trip for him. Thanks to all the Hotel staff, we made wonderful memories. Thank you very much. That said, there was one small point about the Facility that I’d like to mention. In the large public bath and open-air bath—especially on the large public bath side—many showerheads were damaged, and there were several washing stations where it was difficult to rinse properly. Fortunately it wasn’t crowded, so we were able to move 3–4 times and still use them, but some guests may have found them inconvenient.

    Starry sky

Above all, the best part was lying back in the open-air bath and gazing up at the starry sky!!! The moment I looked up at the sky while lying there was truly moving!! It became an unforgettable trip. Choosing cute yukata patterns with my daughter was also a lot of fun. We were very satisfied with the buffet as well—the steak and tempura were freshly made and delicious. When we visit Tateshina again, we would definitely love to stay here!

All staff members were kind and helpful.

Thank you for taking care of us on our first three-generation trip in a long time. As soon as we arrived, my son and grandchildren—who love fishing—made a Reservation for the fishing pond and were thrilled to catch fish one after another. You also cooked two of the fish we caught and served them at dinner, which our whole family enjoyed. The large public bath was wonderful as well, but since no towels were provided there, we had to bring towels in addition to the children’s change of clothes, which made our luggage heavier than expected. Overall, it was a fun and memorable stay. Thank you very much.

    Stay during Golden Week

Perhaps because it was Golden Week, there were many families with children. With well-equipped fishing spots and a kids’ area, it’s easy to see why this Hotel is popular. The open-air streamside bath was just as wonderful as in the photos on the website. There was a taiko drum performance at night, and we were told the Hotel staff had practiced for a month—it was outstanding and truly moving. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, and our Room was newly renovated and very clean, making this a great trip overall.

It might be a bit hectic.

This is a large, fun Accommodation that families will really appreciate. However, because it can get hectic, the service may sometimes feel disappointing despite what should be a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. The meals were good—thank you.

    It was a wonderful trip.

We stayed with a family of six. The staff were very kind and helpful. The baths were great, especially the open-air bath by the mountain stream. It felt very open, and you could see the river flow (one side has a limited view of the river, but on the other side you can see it while soaking, so if there is a gender rotation, it’s worth trying that side). The water was clean and very relaxing. However, it’s a bit far away, so you do have to walk quite a bit. The walkway is indoors so it doesn’t get cold, but because of the distance I gave it 4 stars. All of the meals were delicious. The roast beef in particular was tender and excellent. The French toast at breakfast was also good, but the komatsuna namul was amazing! The only disappointment was that it was very crowded with lots of people. It couldn’t be helped though... The exterior feels a bit old, but inside the Facility was very clean and comfortable. I’d like to visit again.

    Landsend

It was a very satisfying stay.

We stayed in a Room with a semi-open-air bath. The Room was spacious and well equipped, with a table and plenty of power outlets. Above all, the open-air bath in the Room was roomy, with just the right depth, and very comfortable. Meals were served buffet-style, with a wide variety of options, and the number of guests was well managed, so we had no particular complaints. Overall, it was a satisfying stay.

    We’ll definitely come again.

This was my first time staying here, and it was truly wonderful! As many Reviews mentioned, the food was delicious. The Room was clean, and many of the staff were very pleasant. This is an Accommodation I will definitely return to! The only downside was that I wish breakfast hours were a bit more flexible. It was so crowded that it was hard to relax. Even more so when you’re traveling solo like me (lol). Thank you very much. I look forward to staying again.

As with last year, we stayed here on our way back from skiing. As before, the staff member who handled our check-in was still in training; their voice was quiet and hard to hear, and the process took a long time, which made our dinner time quite late. Since it was very busy, it may have been unavoidable, but it was a bit disappointing. That said, both dinner and breakfast were delicious and we were very satisfied. We also enjoyed several Onsen baths, all of which were excellent. Aside from the front desk experience, we were very satisfied overall. If we go skiing again next year, we would like to stay here again.

    Meal Times

This was my first visit in five years. Last time, it was during COVID, so everything was very quiet. Even though I had read the Reviews and checked in around 4:00 PM, I was surprised to be told that 7:15 PM was the earliest available time. Compared to before, it felt like the Ryokan has lost some of its traditional atmosphere, which was a bit disappointing. At both breakfast and dinner, despite there being many staff members, they seemed to be wandering around, which distracted me. Also, since most guests leave after about 90 minutes anyway, I felt there was no need to specifically mention a time limit. The kids’ corner also had items adults would want as well, so I wondered if it is too separated. The baths were excellent. I will use it again.

    The room information is unclear.

I made a Reservation for the “Sky Comfort Floor Japanese-Western Room / 62 m²” based on the photos on your website, but at check-in I was shown a different Room. I called the front desk immediately, but was told that the Room shown in the photos was fully booked and could not be changed. I was surprised that even though I booked based on the photos, I could not stay in that Room. If there are multiple layouts for the “Sky Comfort Floor Japanese-Western Room / 62 m²,” I believe this should be clearly stated on your website and other materials. Other than that, I feel the food and service were appropriate for the price.

We used the kids’ room. It had bunk beds, blocks, picture books, and a hammock for children, so they never got bored. It would have been nice to have children’s amenities (toothbrushes, etc.). The room was warm, but the hallway felt cold. The meals were buffet-style and it was crowded, but new dishes kept coming out one after another, so we could eat without waiting. There was also a live kitchen, which we enjoyed. It felt more compact than it looked in the photos. There were two Onsen baths, and we used themfinal at night and in the morning. The washing area and changing room were spacious, which was great. We enjoyed the open-air bath while snow was falling.

    One Step Closer to Satisfaction

At the end of the year, we stayed on the Sky Comfort Floor, 8th floor, as a family of four. The fourth sofa bed was partially hard like a wooden board, but when we consulted with the staff, they promptly checked and kindly moved us to a room on the 6th floor of the Sky Comfort Floor. Their response was excellent. However, perhaps due to it being a busy time at year-end and a sudden change, the room on the 6th floor was still set up for two people. We had to make multiple trips ourselves to bring amenities and supplies from our original room on the 8th floor, which took time and was slightly disappointing.
