    It was a rewarding trip!

    After a busy summer, we took this trip as both a reward and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This was our second stay, and once again, we had a very relaxing time. The onsen was clean and peaceful, and the buffet menu offered plenty of options, leaving us completely satisfied. Thank you for taking great care of us again this year!

    The lounge...

    Since opening last year, I have used Mercure several times in Kochi and Awaji, but I still don't understand the difference between Grand Mercure and regular Mercure! This time, I stayed at "Minabe," but the lounge did not serve alcohol until 5 PM (though there were infused liquors), and the selection of snacks was limited. The meals were good, but the variety of alcoholic beverages was somewhat disappointing. The Room request for a "higher floor" was kindly accommodated, and I appreciated the upgrade. However, it would have been more convenient for women if there had been a counter with a mirror next to the TV in the Room. The view, bath, and meals were excellent overall; I'm looking forward to improvements on my next visit!

    It was great to have...

    It was great to have lounge access at this price. The Onsen facilities were excellent. The open-air bath is spacious, so it would be even better if chairs or similar seating could be provided for cooling off.

    Best value for money!

    The front desk staff was very accommodating. The stay was truly affordable, making me wonder if such a price was even possible. Both the quality and taste were highly satisfying. The foie gras hamburger was also delicious.

    Great value for money

    The facility is a bit old but well-maintained. During dinner, only beer and wine were available as alcoholic drinks. It was disappointing to find highball options at a different drink station during breakfast (no alcohol served at breakfast). The meals offered a wide variety of dishes, which was very satisfying. Wi-Fi connection is almost non-existent. The staff provided excellent service. Staying here for this price was highly satisfying.

    We had a truly enjoyable time.

    This highly popular hotel was bustling with many guests. Alcohol, coffee, and snacks were freely available, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious with a wide variety of options. There were also many stylish dishes that we don't usually get to enjoy, which led us to overindulge. It seemed other guests felt the same way. We would like to express our gratitude to the staff who quietly took care of us as we enthusiastically ate and drank. We also realized that we should be more mindful about serving food calmly and avoiding spills. This accommodation was so enjoyable that it made us a bit too excited. Thank you very much!

    With three preschool children

    The Onsen and cuisine were excellent, exceeding expectations for the price. Great value for money overall, and we were satisfied. However, the Room lacked air conditioning and only had a fan system, which made it uncomfortably hot for the children. It was quite an unusual experience nowadays. Additionally, there were many large groups of Chinese tourists whose poor manners made the stay unpleasant. We hope the Hotel will address this issue in the future.

    There was no beer.

    The lounge from 3 PM only offered infused liquor, with no beer available. Starting with spirits at the Hotel at 5 PM? Not for me. I opted for an early dinner to enjoy some beer instead. I believe this is the only Mercure without beer availability. Several guests were complaining about it. Disappointing service in this regard, but everything else was the usual comfortable Mercure experience.

    The renovated Room is very clean.

    The room was clean after renovation. It was inconvenient to bring the bath towel and face towel from the room to the public bath each time. The outdoor rock bath had hot water, but the wooden one did not, leaving a lukewarm and less favorable impression. The staff at the buffet dining area left a very good impression, and I enjoyed delicious meals. The portions were sufficient, though it felt like there weren't enough vegetables. Contrary to some reviews, we didn't have to wait long for elevators, and since it was a weekday in October, it wasn't overly crowded. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay.

    The meals are very delicious.

    The meals were very delicious. I felt the number of Hotel staff was insufficient. Also, on the first floor, it was difficult to get drinks and snacks without waiting in line. There were not enough chairs, so it felt uncomfortable to relax while standing. In the morning, the lounge on the first floor was too hot without curtains, making it hard to stay there for long. It was disappointing that there were no activities available. Only receiving two towels was also a letdown. I enjoyed table tennis and reading manga, but I think improving the Facility and increasing staff would enhance the quality. It was nice that there were fewer foreign guests who lacked manners, and there were more Japanese tourists.

    It's been a while.

    Stayed for one night with family after a long time. It seemed to be the first day of a three-day weekend, as the parking lot was almost full, there were constant lines for the elevators, and the entrance was crowded. The large public bath was very relaxing! However, the breakfast venue was overcrowded and difficult to navigate. It might be better to implement a time slot system or divide it into two venues.

    Great value for money

    During the three-day weekend, it was difficult to find suitable accommodation, but we managed to stay at a reasonable price. We reserved two different types of rooms, so they were on separate floors, but the room numbers were the same, which made them easy to remember. The food felt better in the morning compared to dinner. The lounge was always full. The elevators were also relatively crowded. Considering this situation now, I imagine it would be extremely busy during peak seasons. We went for a walk at night and thought it would be nice if there were more lights around.

    The crowd level was unexpectedly manageable.

    Since it was the first day of a long weekend, we expected it to be very crowded, but it wasn’t too bad. Arriving at 2:30 PM allowed for a smooth check-in, and the baths were not overly crowded either. We chose to start dinner at 5:30 PM, but most of the good seats were already taken. The taste and variety of food were average. The dining area was spacious and family-friendly, which made it less suitable for quiet conversations. As a result, we found ourselves leaving shortly after finishing our meal—a bit disappointing in that regard. Overall though, considering the price for weekends, it was quite reasonable. This place is highly recommended for families as you can enjoy your stay without any worries; however, it might not be ideal for older guests seeking a more relaxed atmosphere. The table tennis area was popular and crowded; with only two tables available, adding more would have been appreciated.

    For 2 adults and 3 children.

    We stayed here for a family trip. It seems to be an accommodation renovated from an old hotel, which has become more common recently. As mentioned in other reviews, the overall atmosphere still feels like an older hotel, but considering the price, it was clean enough. In terms of service, the staff at the reception, buffet hall, and housekeeping were all busy but friendly and efficient. They even interacted with small children with smiles, which was impressive. Regarding the meals, we honestly didn’t have high expectations, but there was a wide variety of dishes, including Japanese, Western, Chinese, and desserts. The seafood, such as seared bonito, tuna, and sweet shrimp, was delicious, and the kids were thrilled. The whole family was very satisfied. The bath facilities included one indoor bath, two outdoor baths, a sauna, and a cold bath, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The complimentary vinegar drink after bathing was a nice touch. There was also a small recreation room where we had fun with the kids after bathing. Since there were many families with small children, it would be great if the lounge could offer more drink options suitable for young kids. This was our first stay, but it was satisfying enough that we would like to stay here again for another family trip.

    Excellent

    We stayed here for a trip to celebrate her anniversary and birthday! The price was reasonable, and the Hotel had a pleasant atmosphere, making it comfortable for both young people and the elderly. The bath facilities included both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, with the open-air bath offering a stunning view of the sea—it was truly wonderful! This time, we only opted for the breakfast buffet, which had a wide variety of dishes, and we ended up eating too much even though it was just breakfast. The quality made us want to try the dinner next time! We would love to stay here again!

    No contact from the Hotel regarding forgotten clothes.

    I stayed for one night on October 6th and checked out on the 7th. While returning to Osaka, I realized I had forgotten a dress in the closet. I waited for the hotel to contact me, but there was no response at all! A normal hotel would have contacted me, but this hotel does not reach out even for expensive lost items. It’s disappointing, especially since I stayed here for my birthday.

    Stayed at the accommodation for a special occasion.

    A message was written during the reservation stating, "We will be celebrating a family member's 60th birthday," and a message along with a small gift was placed in the room, which made the person very happy. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Both dinner and breakfast had a wide variety of dishes, allowing us to have an enjoyable time as a family. Thank you very much.

    I booked early, so I stayed at a very reasonable price! Also, the hotel was full of services, and I wish I could have checked in earlier!

    Great value for money, ideal for young families.

    Positive Points: ① Complimentary soft drinks and snacks were available from 3 PM (I don't drink alcohol). ② Alcohol was free during meal times as well. ③ Wide variety of options. ④ The Wakayama ramen was particularly good. ⑤ Desserts were plentiful. ⑥ Water was provided in the Room. ⑦ Linen collection staff greeted guests in the hallway, which left a good impression. ⑧ The elderly cleaning staff for the bath area worked diligently. ⑨ All staff at the dinner and breakfast venues were polite and attentive. Points of Concern: ① Some elevator buttons were malfunctioning. ② I got bitten by either mites or mosquitoes. ③ The window lock in the Room was defective. ④ Lounge and dinner service included casually dressed staff (possibly senior management?). It would be better if they wore uniforms or name tags to clarify their role, making it easier to approach them if needed. ⑤ In the lounge near the bath area, there were guests shouting loudly into the women's bath area, along with other instances of poor manners observed among some guests—consider posting signs requesting quiet behavior here. The white indirect lighting fixtures had dents caused by children playing unsupervised. Personally, I think great effort has been put into dinner service—it exceeded expectations for this price range. From that perspective, it felt like an impressive achievement. However, this Ryokan may not suit those who prefer high-end accommodations or quiet places for relaxation regularly.

    Unfortunately, once again.

    This was my second stay at Grand Mercure. I booked with hope, thinking it might be better this time. The all-inclusive option seemed attractive and enjoyable for a family trip. However, after check-in, I was looking forward to using the lounge, but beer service only started after 5 PM, which was very disappointing. It ended up being close to dinner time and felt pointless. I chose a spacious Japanese-style room with two adjoining rooms, but it turned out to be smaller than expected and quite old. The curtains were torn apart and poorly maintained... There were cobwebs on the lights and dust everywhere; it looked like a fire hazard due to lack of proper management—shocking! To make matters worse, there were no futons provided! Instead, we were told to sleep directly on thin mattresses covered with sheets... I've never stayed at an accommodation without futons before—it was unbelievable! Despite trying to sleep on the thin mesh mattress with just a sheet over it, it was impossible to rest properly. This completely ruined the experience of staying in a Japanese-style room. This issue must be addressed as it's unacceptable for any accommodation not to provide proper bedding. As someone who loves traveling and has stayed in many accommodations before, I've never encountered such an issue—it’s unheard of. While Western-style rooms seem renovated here, the Japanese-style ones are in terrible condition. Additionally, when we tried going to the game corner only to find out there wasn’t one anymore—it felt disappointing for such a large hotel—but we decided instead on table tennis where another problem arose: massive mold buildup around air conditioner vents made us stop immediately due health concerns. Overall cleanliness throughout this hotel needs serious improvement; hygiene standards are lacking significantly across older areas or rooms left neglected while newer sections appear better maintained. If you plan your stay here perhaps choosing renovated Western-style rooms would offer better comfort—but unfortunately negative aspects overshadowed positives during our visit making them less noticeable overall. With improvements addressing these issues thoroughly though—I believe this could become truly wonderful accommodation someday!

    Stayed again.

    Visited in July with a family of 9. The buffet and drinks were very satisfying at an affordable price. I recommended it to friends, and two families went together and were thrilled. This time, I stayed with a friend in a renovated twin Room on the 10th floor. The Room was stylish and very nice. However, there was no handwashing area in the toilet, which made it inconvenient if someone was using the sink. Also, the air conditioning was too strong, and even adjusting the airflow didn’t help—it felt cold. Still, I would love to visit again!

    The Room felt a bit old, but the tatami was new, and the futon was clean, allowing for a comfortable stay. The meals had a wide variety, were delicious, and left us feeling full. It was excellent. I don't drink alcohol, but I enjoyed plenty of coffee and juice. We used the pool; it was clean with lifeguards present, so we could play safely. Everyone talked about wanting to come back as we returned home. We will visit again!

    Men's Bath

    One of the three hairdryers in the men's bath is out of order, and another one does not blow hot air. The area under the drink station in the rest area outside the bath is wet, causing clean feet to get dirty after bathing.

    Check-in Time

    Despite the 3:00 PM check-in time, when I arrived for check-in at 3:00 PM, I was informed that the room was not yet ready. I was told this delay was due to the late checkout of a previous guest. Regardless of the circumstances with prior guests, ensuring readiness by the check-in time should be the responsibility of the accommodation. There wasn’t even an apology offered. Eventually, I received a call about 12 minutes later informing me that my room was ready. I question whether it’s appropriate to set a check-in time that cannot be met reliably. The room itself was clean and there were facilities like a pool, making it great for families, but this experience left me disappointed.

    Both adults and children will be satisfied.

    This was our second stay following last year, and our main purpose was to use the pool with our two children. To avoid crowds, we stayed on a Friday night, and when we checked in around 3:45 PM, it wasn’t busy. Both the lounge and pool were not too crowded either. We were delighted that the beer service time in the lounge had been changed to 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM, allowing us to enjoy a refreshing beer after bathing. Thank you for this improvement based on guest feedback. In the back relaxation area where drinks from the lounge could be brought in, there was a play area for children. Parents could relax with their drinks while kids enjoyed activities like drawing on walls or reading picture books. This space was much less crowded compared to the lounge itself. For both dinner and breakfast, food from live kitchens was easily accessible with only short waits—no frustration from long lines. Our kids loved using the cotton candy machine three times! The wine service had changed from bottles last year to barrels this year. While it’s a minor detail, it was slightly disappointing that there used to be sparkling wine along with two types of red and white wines but now only one type is available. However, it was nice that barrels remained available at breakfast as well. Personally, my favorite part of breakfast was having sweet red bean paste (anko) as a topping option for bread! I sandwiched anko and butter into a croissant (after warming it up). The crispy texture of the croissant combined with creamy butter made it absolutely delicious! It’s rare even at other hotels offering croissants to have anko as an option. One small issue—apologies if I missed this—but I couldn’t find a swimsuit dryer in the changing room after using the pool. I had to wring out swimsuits by hand and dry them in our Room; however, they didn’t fully dry by morning due to rainy weather so we ended up taking them home damp without using them again at the pool next day. If not yet installed already—a swimsuit dryer would be greatly appreciated! Overall though—with this stay being part of your limited-time family-friendly Plan offered at such great value—the cost performance exceeded expectations! We’ll definitely return again!

    The meals are delicious. Service is poor, but the price is reasonable.

    The buffet offers a wide variety of delicious options for both breakfast and dinner. The restaurant staff were all very pleasant. However, the front desk service was disappointing. Responses were given while typing on the computer during inquiries. The checkout staff were not friendly, and the front desk staff during the stay did not listen attentively or respond properly, often appearing uninterested. Only Ms. K from the female staff provided proper service. There is a lifeguard at the pool, but no action was taken even when parents allowed their children to repeatedly jump into the pool from the side without regard for safety rules. The overall guest atmosphere was questionable as well. For its price, it’s adequate; however, I would not recommend this accommodation to those looking for a pleasant experience!

Other than the above, the food was delicious, especially the beef shabu-shabu, which was excellent! The Room had a unit bath, which was a bit disappointing, but everything else was great!     Multiple Night Stay was the right choice!

    I stayed for a 2-night Multiple Night Stay, and the meals were the same on both days, but they were incredibly luxurious with a wide variety of dishes that truly amazed me. There were so many options that I was completely satisfied for two days! Even with a 3-night stay, I wouldn't get bored! With unlimited alcohol and soft drinks available, I could relax at my own pace. Although there was a time limit, measures were taken to avoid overcrowding. Highly recommend for Multiple Night Stays. There’s also a pool, and the room had an ocean view and was very clean. What made me happy was that even though my daughter was working online in the room and we didn’t request cleaning service, staff thoughtfully provided towels, tea bags, and tea packs in an organized manner. The staff members were very kind as well. I definitely want to come back for another Multiple Night Stay next year!
