We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. It was very quiet, and we were able to spend a relaxing time. The food was excellent, and the tableware and presentation were beautiful. The staff’s service and the in-house and in-room Facilities were also wonderful. The full-body massage chair in the room was amazing—we ended up competing for it (lol). When we asked whether we could watch Netflix or Amazon Prime on the TV, we were told it wasn’t possible, but the TV in the bedroom supports them, so if you have an account, you can watch. We would love to visit again.

The Room with an open-air bath overlooks a pond, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Watching the koi swim gracefully while reading, I even dozed off—it felt like being at my grandparents’ home in the countryside. I enjoyed the cuisine, which leaned toward tea kaiseki and was delicious. Personally, I think it could be even more focused on tea kaiseki. There also seem to be areas for improvement in the seasonal decor and presentation in the Room and throughout the Ryokan. With such a wonderful location, I believe you could welcome guests with more carefully arranged seasonal touches. This is a Ryokan full of memories for me, so I hope you will continue striving with pride as a luxury Ryokan.

A Luxurious Accommodation to Enjoy Tranquility and the Four Seasons
I felt truly refreshed by the sounds and scents of nature, and the greenery that greeted my eyes. Highly recommended for a digital detox. Perfect for anyone who wants to step away from the artificial spaces of the city and Clear their mind.

A Summer Getaway
Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality. My spouse and I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. The Ryokan had a calm atmosphere, the food was delicious, and the attendants were cheerful and pleasant. We were very satisfied with the attentive service and thoughtful care from the proprietress and all the staff. Our Room was spacious, quiet, and relaxing, and it also had an open-air bath, so we had a truly enjoyable stay. We would love to stay again if we have another opportunity.

Our first family trip with our daughter
This was our first trip with our 10-month-old daughter to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The reasons we chose this Accommodation were: - A comfortable driving distance from Yokohama - In-room dining, a private bath, Onsen, and a luxurious feel - Great Reviews Since it was our first time traveling with a baby, we made several mistakes on the way. We missed the timing for our daughter’s lunch and forgot to bring baby drinks, so by the time we arrived at the parking lot my wife and I were already panicking. When I asked the staff member assisting us in the parking lot if there was a drugstore nearby where we could quickly buy drinks, they said it would take about 20 minutes round trip. However, from that single question they coordinated with the Ryokan team and showed incredible consideration: they guided us to our Room before completing check-in procedures, and they prepared baby barley tea for every meal. It helped us so much. We are truly glad we chose this Accommodation for our first family trip. The Room also had baby body wash and a high chair ready for us, and they even warmed up the baby food we brought using a microwave and delivered it to us. At bedtime they laid out three adult futons, so our daughter—who has started rolling around—could move freely and seemed very happy. This was an extremely kind Accommodation for first-time parents traveling with a child: they anticipated what we might need and proactively offered suggestions. We could enjoy drinks in the lounge; my wife is breastfeeding so she can’t drink yet, but she was very satisfied with Häagen-Dazs ice cream and apple juice. All of the staff were always smiling and spoke kindly to our daughter as well, which made this birthday trip a wonderful memory. Highly recommended for anyone staying with a baby!

In-Room dining served one dish at a time with perfect timing. The stairs were not an issue.
On the first night of a three-night trip with my elderly mother, we stayed in the guest annex “Hikaru Genji.” The official website notes “about 10 steps of stairs before the guest room,” which worried me, but because all movement is completed indoors, it was not an issue. You can drive right up to the entrance, and my mother had no trouble going back and forth inside. There are also stairs to the large public bath, but we were able to get there without problems. That said, the interior layout may be a matter of preference. Although it is 130 m², the main room, bedroom, and restroom are arranged around an earthen-floor area (doma), so you pass through it even when going to the restroom. Because the spaces are separated, it did not feel as large as the number suggests. The in-room bath has a wooden tub and was very pleasant; my mother could use it comfortably as well. However, the thermometer was a rugged type where you keep the sensor immersed in the tub, which felt out of place for an Accommodation with this level of elegance. Dinner was served in our Room and was truly outstanding. One point worth noting is that these guest rooms are located quite deep inside the building. Even though dishes had to be carried over slopes and steps, each course arrived at exactly the right timing—hot items hot and cold items cold. That may sound standard, but making it happen over that distance is no small feat. The sardine fish-ball soup had beautifully drawn dashi—an exemplary kaiseki dish. For an additional order of Ise lobster onigara-yaki (shell-grilled), they even consulted with us in advance about serving order to match wine and sake pairings. I expected half a lobster per person but received one whole lobster each; with that fragrant shell-grilled aroma added, it tasted twice as good. The table-and-chair seating also made things easy for my mother. Breakfast rice cooked in a clay pot was delicious—we liked it so much we asked for another whole pot. I was especially impressed by our attendant’s knowledge and attentiveness. They shared many stories—such as this Accommodation’s 45-year history and how more Hokkaido ingredients have been used since joining its current group 15 years ago. When I asked for ice, they brought it in a carefully sealed container; I almost felt sorry having them make repeated trips through a building with many level changes. In the lounge after bathing, we enjoyed draft beer, plum wine liqueur (umeshu), and ice cream while spending some calm time. Just one note: when we were escorted to our Room at check-in، we were given incorrect information about ordering kama-meshi (rice cooked in an iron pot)—we were told it would be fine even after dinner started (it should be requested at reception by 5:00 p.m.). We hadn’t planned to order it anyway so there was no harm done، but I’m mentioning it just in case.

In-Room Dining for the First Time in a While
The Room we stayed in was larger than expected, so we felt a bit unsure where to settle in. However, we had a very comfortable stay. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the Room at just the right time, and every dish was absolutely delicious. Thank you as well to all the staff for your kind hospitality. Next time, I would like to make a Reservation for a Room that better suits our needs.

A wonderful, family-friendly Accommodation with thoughtful hospitality
This Accommodation was a perfect 100/100—absolutely satisfying. Just as the Reviews said, the meals were delicious, and even the standard lounge had an excitingly wide selection of alcoholic drinks. Bath towels and face towels were provided in the bath area, so there was no need to bring them from the Room, and it was great to always be able to use fresh ones. The women’s changing room had a large number of hair dryers, and both those and the in-room hair dryer were Repronizers—I was genuinely impressed that such a wonderful Accommodation goes this far. We stayed with our 2-year-old child, and we truly appreciated all the warm consideration we received. There was a diaper trash bin in the toilet, baby shampoo and body soap in the in-room open-air bath, and kids’ amenities prepared for us. We were told in advance that “light snacks will be provided for children,” but both breakfast and dinner were surprisingly luxurious and wonderful—our child was delighted and finished everything. Our attendant also remembered our child’s name and called them by it many times, which made us very happy. Thank you as well for washing our food scissors/cutter. Choosing an Accommodation with a child can be stressful in many ways, but all of the staff treated us so kindly that we are truly glad we chose this Accommodation. We would love to stay again.

Very satisfied.
We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. It had the classic feel of a Ryokan and was a calm, relaxing space. The Room was spacious, and we loved the beautiful view of the pond in the courtyard garden. We also used the premium lounge and enjoyed cheesecake, fruit, draft beer, wine, and more. It was open until 9:00 p.m., so we were happy to be able to stop by after dinner as well. The meals were great overall, and breakfast in particular left a strong impression for how delicious it was. Even though it must have been nearly fully booked for Obon, the Onsen felt almost private both morning and night, so we could unwind at our own pace. Overall we were very satisfied considering the price, and with easy access from central Tokyo, we would love to visit again.

In-room dining, which has become less common recently, was wonderful and allowed us to relax and enjoy our time. Every dish was exquisite and truly excellent. The Room was spacious and comfortable, though it would have been even nicer if we could have seen the garden from the Room. As expected of Tsubaki, everything was outstanding. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

It was a great accommodation!
We stayed here for a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary. What left the strongest impression was the food. Both the quality and portion sizes were outstanding, and among the many Onsen Ryokan we have visited, this was easily the best cuisine we’ve had. The grilled spiny lobster in its shell we enjoyed this time was also exquisite. In addition, because it was our anniversary, they kindly prepared an extra dish for us, which truly warmed our hearts. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of items and was a feast for the eyes as well. The rice cooked in a traditional pot was delicious—I ended up eating far more than I intended. All of the staff provided naturally warm and pleasant service, including their greetings when we passed them in the building. In particular, the attendant in charge of our Room was wonderful: explanations of each dish were polite and easy to understand, yet never overly familiar—an ideal sense of distance that made us feel very comfortable. Thank you very much. From our Room we could look out over the pond, and feeding the koi fish was great fun. The Accommodation even provided fish food, which became a small but delightful highlight. The interior has a calm atmosphere and some areas convey its history, but everything is kept so impeccably clean that it never felt old at all—we had an extremely comfortable stay. This time we didn’t plan any sightseeing and simply relaxed at the Accommodation—and that turned out to be exactly right. We fully enjoyed spending time there. Including their thoughtful anniversary gesture, this is an Onsen Ryokan where you can truly appreciate exceptional cuisine and hospitality—one we would love to visit again. We’re genuinely glad we chose to spend our anniversary trip here.

This is my second time.
We stayed here for the first time last year and had a wonderful experience (my son especially loved it), so we returned this time and booked a different Room. We’d love to stay again next time in yet another Room. Since I use bath towels and hand towels frequently, it would have been even better if there were two of each per person, including for the second day. We had a very comfortable stay. Thank you very much.

Excellent dining and furnishings
We stayed as three guests (a mother and two daughters). The spacious Room was spotless in every corner, we could feed the koi directly from the Room, enjoy an open-air bath while looking out over the garden, and savor elaborate, delicious breakfast and dinner... Our whole family was very satisfied. Thank you for a wonderful time.

A welcoming Accommodation with warm hospitality.
As we did last year, we stayed for one night with our elderly parents. Our Room had an open-air bath, and my 94-year-old father, who loves baths, enjoyed the Onsen to the fullest and went in many times. The meals were delicious—and there was more than we could finish! My husband especially loved the white rice and had seconds from the morning; he must have eaten about five bowls. This year, I tried looking for camellias at Tsubaki inside Kaiseiki. I hope we can visit again next year.

The autumn leaves will surely be beautiful as well.
We stayed as a couple on a weekday in July. The matcha served at check-in was very delicious. Dinner met our expectations in presentation, seasoning, and service. The sake pairing felt a little lacking for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the open-air bath in our Room; it had a wonderful atmosphere. Breakfast offered many dishes, and we enjoyed them with delicious rice cooked in a traditional pot. Thank you as well for the courteous send-off at check-out. This is an Accommodation we would like to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

Quiet Accommodation
This is my second stay, the first in a year. It’s not a trendy, stylish Accommodation, but a quiet and relaxing one. The meals, Room, Onsen, and service were all excellent. It also seemed that there were more younger staff members than last time—perhaps it’s just that appealing a place to work. I will be back again.

Exceptional cuisine (by the head chef) and professional attendants
We stayed as a family to celebrate my husband’s retirement after 44 years of service. For more than 40 years, since I first came to Tokyo, “Tsubaki” has been featured as one of Japan’s leading Accommodations—highly praised for its atmosphere, outstanding cuisine, and heartfelt hospitality. I have long hoped to visit for a milestone celebration, and that day finally came. From the very first bite, our whole family was amazed by how delicious the dashi was—we couldn’t help but gasp in admiration. We were instantly captivated by every dish created by the head chef. We were also delighted to be seen off and to have a brief chance to speak with him. We are already looking forward to the next meal. Equally exceptional were the two attendants who took care of our Room. Not only their graceful manner, but also their conversation and attentiveness in every detail showed true consideration. I was deeply impressed by their professionalism—far beyond mere formality. It is no exaggeration to say that the head chef’s superb cuisine and the attendants’ heartfelt professional service are what make today’s “Tsubaki” what it is. We have already made a Reservation for autumn in the same Room for another life celebration. If we could be looked after by the same attendants again, nothing would make us happier. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiles again gives me motivation each day. Thank you very much for taking such wonderful care of us during our stay.

Except for the Premium Lounge, we were satisfied with almost everything about this Accommodation!
The Room and the Accommodation were clean and spacious, and we really enjoyed the sparkling summer greenery from the open-air bath in the Room and the large public bath. Meals were served in the Room for both dinner and breakfast, with plenty of fresh fish dishes. The appetizers were also very tasty, and it was more than enough for adult women. It felt a little insufficient for my young sons, but they were satisfied because they could enjoy lots of delicious rice. The woman who served us was very cheerful and attentive, and we truly enjoyed talking with her. One disappointing point was the premium lounge. Since we had a Plan that included access to the premium lounge, I expected not only alcohol but also some light food such as canapés or open-faced sandwiches; however, aside from fruit cups, Häagen-Dazs, and small cheesecakes, everything else was just packaged snacks like nuts, potato chips, and rice crackers. There was only one type each of red and white wine, and the white wine wasn’t chilled. Because it was a premium lounge Plan with an added fee, I would have liked a more luxurious selection. Other than that, we were satisfied with everything at this Accommodation.

It was great again!!
The time before last, we stayed in a Room with a view of the koi, but last time we were in a Room without one. We couldn’t feed the koi, and my wife seemed a little disappointed. This time, I made sure to make a Reservation for a Room where we could see the koi again. My wife was excited to feed them, which was a relief. As always, Mr. Yamamoto Koji’s meals were delicious, and thank you very much for accommodating my wife’s food preferences as well. If I may mention one thing: it was disappointing that the lounge hours are usually short and that the lounge snacks had been reduced to only dried items. It was also unclear from IKYU’s website that a special lounge would be held. After speaking with your staff, we’re thinking of booking the VIP suite on our next visit. We hope to see positive changes to the lounge in the future.

Consistently satisfying
I previously stayed here with my husband and found it very comfortable, so this time I visited with my sister. The warm hospitality and the atmosphere of the building were just as wonderful as before, and we had a very pleasant stay. The meals were thoughtfully prepared down to the smallest details, even in ways you don’t immediately notice, and we left feeling truly refreshed. Thank you!

A Japanese-style Ryokan in Oku-Yugawara
I visited for the first time on a friend’s recommendation. It met my expectations, and I was reasonably satisfied. Thank you. I would like to list a few requests. For the dinner, I would prefer fewer dishes with a higher level of quality. (For example, change the steak from sirloin to a higher-quality filet. Also, replace the reusable chopsticks with high-quality disposable ones.) As for the Facility, items such as the TV and toilet are not the latest models (with automatic open/close and washing functions), which may not satisfy guests seeking a high-end experience. Although improvements will require significant investment, I believe the cost-effectiveness will be sufficient. The outdoor bath shower faucet also uses an automatic shut-off system (the water-saving approach feels rather cheap), so I hope it can be changed to manual control. The duvet seems extremely heavy and uncomfortable, perhaps assuming strong air conditioning. I request switching to a lighter down duvet (more suitable for your high-class property). As someone interested in returning, I look forward to your positive response.

We decided to make a Reservation at this long-admired Accommodation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We also booked a Multiple Night Stay because we wanted to relax and take our time. Ever-evolving Tsubaki!
I have been visiting for over 20 years now, and the cuisine at Kaiseki Tsubaki continues to evolve with each stay. I am always deeply impressed by the steady dedication behind that refinement. While faithfully preserving the traditions and aesthetics of Kyoto kaiseki, you also embrace new ingredients and ideas with flexibility—an outstanding fusion of classic technique and innovation. Although recent social conditions have clearly affected the environment surrounding ingredient sourcing, your creativity and exceptional culinary skill transform those constraints into new appeal, which is truly remarkable. What left the strongest impression this time was the clear soup with sardine fish balls. Served with burdock root, carrot, mitsuba, and grated ginger, it initially struck me as unexpected—“Sardine fish balls at Kaiseki Tsubaki?”—to be honest. But from the first sip, that impression was completely overturned. The dish drew out the sardine’s distinctive umami to its fullest without losing elegance; its deep richness harmonized beautifully with a crystal-clear dashi. I have had many fish-ball soups across Japan, but this stood out as exceptionally accomplished—an item I felt could only be realized here. I occasionally stay at Accommodations within the Noguchi Kanko Group, but when it comes to cuisine, Kaiseki Tsubaki is in a class of its own. The difference in overall quality is so great that it hardly feels like part of the same group—and it made me reflect on why that is. From how ingredients are handled to dashi preparation, seasonal expression, and even the structure of the entire menu composition, Kaiseki Tsubaki operates on a level one or two steps above. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to our attendant. She wore a cool-toned kimono reminiscent of blue hydrangeas with dignified poise; her movements carried true grace. Her explanations were concise yet precise, allowing us to appreciate each dish more deeply—and her warm hospitality felt soothing enough to melt away everyday fatigue. Through this stay once again, I truly understood why Kaiseki Tsubaki has continued to captivate so many people over so many years. I hold deep respect for both the chefs who protect tradition while never ceasing to challenge themselves and for all staff whose thoughtful care supports them. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time. I look forward to visiting again in another season.

This was my second stay. Once again, I was able to take it easy and relax. The open-air bath in the Room was at just the right temperature, and I enjoyed it many times. I also really appreciated that drinks in the salon and in the Room were free of charge. I plan to stay again at the end of the year.

There was a large house centipede in the Room, which dampened the mood of our trip.
When I got up to use the toilet in the middle of the night, there was a large house centipede about 10 cm long stuck to the sliding door. In the morning, there was another house centipede about 5 cm long on the floor. House centipedes look extremely creepy, and I instinctively crushed it with my slippers. The bath, Room, and meals were all excellent, but this completely ruined the mood of my trip. I suspect they entered through an open window during Room cleaning. It’s understandable that insects come to an open-air bath, but I do not want them inside the Room. For future improvement, I suggest: (1) after cleaning, inspect places in the Room where insects may be hiding and spray insecticide if found; (2) if possible, disinfect the entire Room using a fumigation-type insecticide; (3) keep a spray-type insecticide available in each Room.
