    Unfortunately...

Upon arrival, we were guided to our Room by the staff, but upon entering, we were surprised to find other guests sitting in the tatami room. It turned out that the Room we were guided to was next door. During the explanation of the Facility in the original Room, the staff seemed unsure, saying things like, "Where is the bath again...?" It didn't seem professional at all, and the image of a luxury Ryokan quickly crumbled. Additionally, when I inquired about a pouch with camellia embroidery at the shop, the staff dismissed their own product by saying, "What would you use this for?" which made me lose interest in purchasing it. While the bath and meals were satisfactory, the first impression was too strong.

    The bath was very nice.

The bath in the Room had the perfect water temperature, and with a step inside the bathtub, it was easy to adjust for a half-body bath, allowing for a long, relaxing soak. Moreover, the view from the hallway, Room, and bath was simply stunning, making it feel like bathing while gazing at a painting, which was fantastic. However, I felt that the quality of service at the reception and from the staff was lacking. There was a lack of consideration and a somewhat rushed response, which was a bit disappointing.

    Healing Stays

This was my first stay in 15 years. I fondly remembered how my daughter, who was only 2 years old at the time, enjoyed feeding the koi in the pond. Now that she is finally old enough to appreciate kaiseki cuisine, we made a reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Returning to Tsubaki after so long, the elegant and special atmosphere from the entrance was just as I remembered, and I was excited to enter the property. The room was clean, and I was pleased to find amenities like face packs and nano steamers. Having two toilets was also a big plus! The lounge service had changed to a self-service system with a wider variety of alcohol compared to before, allowing us to relax without any hesitation. The meal was a meticulously prepared kaiseki cuisine, truly a feast for the eyes and palate. Everything was incredibly delicious. It had been a while since we stayed at a property with in-room dining, and I was reminded of its charm. The staff was friendly and explained the dishes well. Additionally, we were touched by the celebration of our wedding anniversary by the chef and the ryokan. The bath was soothing with soft water, and I felt completely refreshed. Overall, my return to Tsubaki after 15 years was a deeply relaxing and satisfying trip. Next year is our silver wedding anniversary, so I plan to reserve an upgraded room and visit again.

Stays with a charming atmosphere, enjoy meals in your room.

The maid who guided us to the Room was a trainee, so there were some careless parts, and the worst was that the key to the Room was for the neighboring Room, so it couldn't be locked... from the start. The woman who ran to deliver the key apologized profusely and disappeared immediately. It was somewhat unpleasant. I think it's unacceptable. The yuzu bath in the large public bath was nice. It was also the winter solstice, so I enjoyed it. The maid for dinner and breakfast was excellent in conversation, manners, and kimono, making the meal enjoyable. The bath was generally lukewarm. The bath in the Room was changed to a hotter temperature. The futon was comfortable, and I slept well. When I chose a pillow and had it brought, it had a strange smell and couldn't be used. Also, the dryness in the Room was severe. If there is an air purifier and humidifier, I thought they should at least have water in them. I assumed they were filled because they were operating, but that was a big mistake. I think these things are important. In the morning, I saw a heron from the Room and encountered it eating the carp in the pond. While enjoying nature...

    Satisfied with the hospitality.

The next morning, the staff noticed the photo of our parents placed in the alcove and prepared a memorial meal, which deeply moved us. We also appreciated how they engaged in conversation and maintained a friendly yet respectful distance when answering our questions. However, it was a bit disappointing that the outdoor bath in the large public bath was somewhat small.

I enjoyed the Onsen at a leisurely pace.

We went to Oku-Yugawara Onsen for the first time on a trip with our family of three. Previously, when we asked a taxi driver for a recommended Ryokan in Yugawara, he mentioned "Tsubaki," so this time we stayed at Tsubaki. The autumn leaves were at their best. On the first floor of the main building, this Room has an open-air bath with onsen water flowing directly from the source. Of course, the large bath and open-air onsen at the guesthouse were also great. We also enjoyed juice and ice cream in the lounge after bathing. As a Diamond member benefit, we received a fruit platter. It was delicious. We enjoyed various authentic kaiseki dishes, including sashimi and wagyu tataki. Oku-Yugawara Onsen gets chilly in the mornings and evenings, but we were able to relax and enjoy the onsen to the fullest. We would love to visit again.

    I was healed.

I love onsen Stays and travel around various places. This Property had mixed Reviews, so I was a bit nervous when visiting. In the end, I was very relaxed. The Facility is undeniably aging, but we had a pleasant stay. The timing for the autumn leaves was perfect, but there were fallen leaves on the path and in the open-air bath, which was understandable. However, I was a bit concerned that there were also leaves in the indoor bath, but the seasonal mandarin bath was visually and emotionally pleasing. The onsen's strength is a bit weak. As others have mentioned, the service was good. There was no valet service, but they responded politely. The attendant who served us during meals was both courteous and approachable, with an elegant atmosphere, which was wonderful. I regret not remembering her name and not writing in the Property survey. The highlight was the cuisine. This was also varied, so it was my biggest concern, but it was unfounded. It was truly delicious. My husband even said, "Isn't it rare for us to say something is this delicious?" However, we ordered a pairing, but the cuisine here was suited for sake. My husband mentioned that he would have preferred a sake pairing recommendation, so please consider this. The lounge is not luxurious, but it is well-equipped until 6 PM. I'm not good with alcohol, so I wished for cold tea without honey. Also, a surprisingly high point was the Room's coffee maker. Our family loves coffee, so we want to drink many cups. Being able to drink four cups of coffee in the Room after meals without it getting cold was fantastic! Drip packs only allow for one cup at a time. I want to visit again in a different season to try the chef's kaiseki.

    It was a disappointing Ryokan.

Some of the employees were wearing beginner marks. In today's Japan, it can't be helped, but a while ago, they were not at a level to be on the field. Neither the front desk nor the room attendants showed any trace of hospitality. There were elderly people as well, so there were many noticeable points such as inexperience and lack of attentiveness, but this may be a common phenomenon in Japan's service industry today. The food was the most disappointing; I thought the ingredients used might not be good. Also, none of the dishes had warmth... neither in temperature nor in heart... there was nothing I found delicious. This is quite rare. It felt like everything had become just a job to be done as a result of work style reforms. If I had to say, the room attendant was very attentive. But with sweat all over their forehead, it told how busy they were, and I understood that there was no room for service or consideration. During the time of the previous owner, I felt attentiveness in every detail, and the food was impressively delicious. When the owner changes, the content changes too. I wished it had been an owner who could change for the better, and I left feeling very disappointed.

I am impressed by the heartwarming hospitality.

We had the pleasure of staying at Tsubaki this time. It was for our wedding anniversary, and we were touched by the warm hospitality of the staff, starting with the Nakai-san. The facility, cuisine, and onsen were all perfect, and we were extremely satisfied. We would love to visit again.

    The Best Memory Trip

Thank you very much for your hospitality. Three of us, my daughter in her 20s and grandparents in their late 70s, stayed at the property. I chose the Stays and only made the reservation. Indeed, the accommodation fee was high, but it was a more satisfying onsen ryokan. The food was beautiful in appearance, flawless in taste, and the portions were just right, which was very good. There was also alcohol available with the free drinks, and my grandfather was in a good mood. My daughter was impressed by the meticulous attention to detail in everything, from the amenities and hairdryer to the partitions in the large bath's washing area. It seemed that it was still early for autumn leaves this year, but on the contrary, the greenery was very beautiful and nice, she said. It seems they were able to create good memories. Thank you very much! If there is an opportunity, I would like to visit next time!

We were delighted with the courteous service and excellent meals.

I misunderstood the time and arrived more than an hour before the check-in time, but I was warmly welcomed. While waiting with matcha and dry sweets, I was very grateful to be guided to the guest room quite early. The interior was quite spacious, and unfortunately, I couldn't go to the large public bath or lounge due to my slight mobility issues. Fortunately, since the room had an open-air bath, I was able to relax in the room. The meals were all very delicious, and I even received a seasonal specialty from the head chef, which was an excellent experience. This is a wonderful Ryokan with impeccable service. I would definitely like to visit again next time. Thank you very much.

    Koki Celebration

I had informed them in advance about my mother's 70th birthday celebration, and I was deeply moved by the congratulatory words and the wonderful thoughtfulness we received. Additionally, the room attendant was a truly wonderful person, and I was impressed by her meticulous attention to detail and her ability to handle the heavy serving with ease. The food was also carefully prepared and delicious, and my mother was delighted, saying it became a lifelong memory. It was a property that made me understand why people say they want to stay there at least once.

    We had a great time.

The Room is clean, spacious, and relaxing. Although there were four of us, the bedroom was divided into two, and my mother seemed to sleep well. The explanation by the female staff was easy to understand, and there was a sense of reassurance as she efficiently handled her work while having casual conversations. The meals were all prepared with meticulous care, delicious, and plentiful, leaving both my mother, who is 88 years old, and us very satisfied. We couldn't even make it to the rice... The shy head chef was adorable. We were well taken care of, and it became a good memory. We will visit again if we have the chance. The service was worth the price, no complaints!!

    Compared to before

I have stayed several times, but until now the food was not great, so I was a bit hesitant. However, I heard that the head chef has changed, and I was hopeful. The food was much more delicious, and I was very satisfied with everything. Also, the room was upgraded, and I was able to enjoy a spacious and pleasant two days.

    Anniversary Trip

We used the facility for our wedding anniversary and were able to spend a very quiet and relaxing time. Although the place is old, it was clean, and the thoughtful touches made for a wonderful memory. The meals were beautifully presented with a sense of the season and were very delicious. One thing that concerned me was that the yukata felt damp.

    I was able to relax.

I was able to relax at the Onsen. The meals were satisfying! Above all, the free drinks in the lounge were great. The only drawback is that it's a bit far to the large public bath.

Disappointing as a ryokan with cuisine.

I stayed with the expectation of enjoying traditional cuisine from a long-established inn, but the food was quite ordinary. As a typical ryokan, it might be satisfactory, but there was no ingenuity in the dishes, and none left a lasting impression. However, I am grateful for the various considerations made for my wife, who cannot eat river fish. The hot spring had the reputed quality, the building matched the surrounding atmosphere beautifully, and the staff's service was excellent, making for a comfortable stay.

    Very satisfied.

A late summer vacation with my mother. A room with an open-air bath, in-room dining, and a spacious room. The food was very delicious, and we finished everything. The pairing was excellent. The incense was pleasant, and we enjoyed a quiet moment. Thank you for everyone's thoughtfulness.

Everything is excellent. Especially, the customer service is top-notch.

I stay at a hot spring inn every weekend, and this one is the best. I always display a portrait of my daughter, who passed away suddenly at the age of 26, in the alcove of the room. To my surprise, they offered the same appetizers we had in front of her portrait. This was the first time something like this happened, and I was deeply moved. Of course, the food and the hot spring water are also excellent. It's expensive, so I can't come often, but I would like to visit 2-3 times a year. It's a wonderful, top-notch inn. Thank you for the moving experience.
