    Thank you for your patronage.

    I visited to relax after several years. The room felt a bit old but was spacious, allowing me to feed the koi fish and enjoy the private open-air bath. Since meals were served in the room, I could spend my time leisurely. As it was during Obon, there seemed to be fewer staff members, and I was asked to adjust my dinner time by 30 minutes. The staff member who served us was very cheerful and polite but appeared quite busy, making dinner feel a bit rushed. However, both breakfast and dinner were very delicious. The Onsen was also incredibly pleasant. During my previous visit, the welcome and farewell gave me the impression of staying at a luxurious Ryokan; however, this time it felt more like "Oh well, it's Obon season with fewer staff." Next time, I would like to visit during a less busy period.

    Would love to visit again!

    It was my first time staying here. Check-in is at 3 PM, but we arrived a little after 2 PM. While considering waiting in the parking lot, a staff member quickly came to guide us to the lobby and served tea and sweets. A few minutes later, they said, "Your room is ready; you'll feel more comfortable there," and kindly escorted us to our room earlier than expected. The matcha and sweets were delicious. As it’s an established ryokan, the basic structure of the room couldn’t be helped. However, my husband (176 cm tall) had to duck slightly when moving through certain areas of the room, which was a bit inconvenient for him. Since our home is barrier-free with no steps or levels, we had moments where we almost tripped over small steps here (laughs). That said, everything else was very satisfying. Although I didn’t request it myself, additional amenities like pillows or skincare products were available upon request. Drinks in both the room and lounge were complimentary as well. The large communal bath felt like a private experience since no one else was there at that time—it provided a relaxing atmosphere different from our room's bath. Afterward in the lounge area, I enjoyed Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream while my husband had two beers; he kept saying how perfectly chilled they were and how much he enjoyed them. Both dinner and breakfast featured carefully prepared dishes served in-room. Hot dishes arrived hot while cold ones stayed cold—everything was timed perfectly without any awkward delays—and we left feeling completely full. Everything tasted wonderful! If I had to highlight something specific: for dinner—the steak cooked on a hot iron plate right before us offered perfect texture with just enough heat; it was amazing! The abalone simmered whole was tender with delicate seasoning. For breakfast—the dessert stood out: fresh fruits topped with lemon jelly added refreshing layers of flavor that made it even more delightful. The hanging scrolls paired beautifully with flower arrangements displayed throughout—though some calligraphy written in cursive script proved difficult for me to read initially! When asking about this during meals though—not only did one attendant help clarify but another senior staff member joined too—they identified what it said which made me genuinely happy! Having practiced calligraphy years ago myself—I found joy revisiting memories observing brushstrokes & techniques after so long! The outdoor bath overlooking koi swimming peacefully within ponds surrounded by trees filtering sunlight—or listening quietly amidst gentle rain sounds—all encapsulated serene mountain tranquility unique only here…we soaked multiple times! We’ve stayed at many accommodations—including pricier ones—but hearing my husband say “I wouldn’t mind coming back again” marked his first-ever such comment anywhere! Thank you sincerely—for providing such comfortable spaces & memorable experiences!

    A classic luxury Ryokan

    This renowned Ryokan has always been on my list to visit, and I happened to find a slightly discounted plan by chance, so I decided to make a reservation. It truly embodies the essence of a traditional luxury Ryokan with impeccable service, exquisite meals, relaxing baths, and everything else being absolutely perfect. Since we stayed in the main building, there was some distance to the large communal bath. However, I didn’t mind going back and forth between the large bath and our room multiple times. On the other hand, my husband preferred staying in our room’s private open-air bath (laughs). For elderly guests or those with mobility issues, reaching the large communal bath might be slightly inconvenient. That said, the entire Ryokan is impressively barrier-free; it made me think about bringing my elderly parents next time. The futon mattress was exceptional! I would love to visit again during another season—especially during autumn when leaves change color!

    I had a relaxing stay.

    After enjoying the Onsen, the lounge offered a peaceful atmosphere where I could relax with a drink and unwind. The meals were delicious, and the room was spacious, allowing me to enjoy a serene view of the garden pond. I look forward to visiting again for another relaxing stay.

    It was very relaxing and enjoyable.

    The hospitality was impeccable, and above all, the meals were incredibly delicious. Having visited numerous Ryokans, I believe this is top-tier for Japanese cuisine. It seems there are renovation plans, but the bath area feels a bit lacking. There is room for improvement, such as enhancing the elegance of the open-air bath, upgrading showerheads, or installing a jacuzzi.

    It was relaxing.

    I stayed at the accommodation to celebrate a birthday. We were welcomed with matcha and traditional sweets, and after check-in, enjoyed a refreshing draft beer in the lounge, which was an amazing experience. Although the building is old, it is well-maintained, and both the room and onsen were very comfortable. The meals included a variety of dishes, along with a special celebratory dish from the chef. Everything was delicious, leaving everyone completely satisfied. The warm smiles of the staff and relaxing onsen at Tsubaki made it an unforgettable birthday. Thank you very much. One small question: Is a traditional Japanese-style toilet necessary?

    Finally discovered an Onsen Accommodation that truly fulfills your heart!!

    Every year, I visit a slightly luxurious Onsen accommodation near Hakone or Tokyo, but it has been hard to find a place that makes me think, "I want to stay here again." While none of the accommodations were bad, none left a lasting impression—until now. This time, I finally found an accommodation that feels like "the one!" The interior is tastefully designed with a classical and serene Japanese atmosphere. The room and the entire facility are beautifully decorated with elegant furnishings, gardens, flowers, and other charming touches. Even the sounds, scents, and air conditioning temperature are subtly cared for to create comfort—I felt my shoulder tension melt away as soon as I arrived! The room was spacious and exuded history in its design. However, the renovated bedroom and open-air bath were incredibly comfortable—a perfect balance of tradition and modernity. The summer-themed decor added a refreshing touch that made everything feel cool and pleasant. The open-air bath was also luxuriously designed. Although it was slightly inconvenient not being able to adjust the temperature from the room directly, staff members promptly assisted whenever requested. The private open-air bath in our room was so wonderful that we barely visited the public baths! What impressed me most was the food!! Every dish reflected seasonal flavors with meticulous preparation. The tableware was high-quality with an elegant charm that delighted both eyes and heart. Each bite offered refreshing summer vibes while being gentle on my body. Rather than relying on extravagant ingredients or flashy presentations, this dining experience pursued authentic Japanese cuisine at its finest—a true luxury! Even the freshly cooked rice changed varieties between breakfast and dinner; its aroma and texture were so delicious they instantly energized me after just one bite! Both dashi broth and tea were exceptionally flavorful—I kept thinking how amazing it would be if I could eat meals like this every day. The service was impeccable as well—the staff members were all polite yet maintained just the right distance for comfort. If there’s anything amusingly “too perfect” about their hospitality...it might be how overly attentive they were at times! For example: despite saying standard-sized yukata would suffice for me or reassuring them about certain preferences (like cooking meat thoroughly due to pregnancy), they still went above-and-beyond out of kindness—which I deeply appreciated but also felt slightly apologetic about. Surrounded by tranquility and quality throughout my stay here allowed me to truly relax from within—it’s an accommodation where I'd love returning during different seasons again someday!

    A traditional Ryokan nestled in Oku-Yugawara

    We stayed as a group of four friends of over 30 years. As expected from the long-established Ryokan "Tsubaki," the service, cuisine, and Onsen were all authentic. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the Room, allowing us to fully enjoy our time. The free drink service included draft beer, sake, and ice cream, making it an incredibly valuable Plan. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much!

    This is my third time, and I am very satisfied. Highly recommended is the Room with a private open-air bath.

    This is my third visit. Every time, I am satisfied with the delicious meals and heartfelt hospitality. Everything is wonderful, but my favorite is the room with a (semi) open-air bath. While many accommodations have open-air baths surrounded by walls that block the view, this place offers a wide-open view due to its secluded location in Yugawara and spacious grounds, ensuring privacy from outside. The slightly lukewarm water temperature is perfect for soaking for hours. The tranquility, where only the sound of a stream can be heard, greatly enhances relaxation.

    I was satisfied.

    I regularly visit Yugawara, but this was my first stay at Tsuruya. It was a very comfortable and traditional ryokan. The view from the room and the open-air bath was spectacular and truly relaxing. The meals were delicious, and the tableware used was indeed of high quality. Considering that accommodation prices have risen since COVID-19, I felt that this ryokan offers good value compared to others. I will definitely visit again!

    It was very relaxing.

    I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. The terrace faced a garden and pond, where trees swayed in the wind, koi swam in the water, and the sound of a flowing river could be heard, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. Both the private open-air bath in the room and the open-air bath in the large public bath were surrounded by greenery with a pleasant breeze, making it feel cool despite the heat outside. It was incredibly refreshing. The onsen was colorless and odorless, making it easy to enjoy while warming up my body thoroughly. The guest room, facilities within the accommodation, and staff all showed great attention to detail, providing exceptional comfort and leaving me feeling rejuvenated both physically and mentally. The meals—both dinner and breakfast—were delicate and delicious. I would love to stay here again!

    It was a wonderful accommodation!

    The room at the guesthouse "Hana Fuki" is said to be 130 square meters, so spacious that it feels excessive for just two people. The large public bath was almost like a private one, likely because it was a weekday with fewer guests. The room's open-air bath was big enough for two people, and unlike many modern accommodations that only have shower booths, this one had a proper washing area with chairs. This was especially appreciated by my daughter who has difficulty with mobility and finds shower booths challenging. In the lounge, we enjoyed draft beer and Häagen-Dazs ice cream. There were also cold tea, juice, coffee, and tea available. I resisted the temptation to have another ice cream (as my daughter reminded me not to overeat before dinner) and prepared myself for the meal ahead! The dinner was absolutely delicious with an impressive variety of dishes—all carefully crafted. Truly, you need to come hungry to fully enjoy it! Breakfast included luxurious items like simmered beef in sansho pepper sauce, grilled saikyo miso marinated flatfish (karei), and sashimi of sea bream—such an indulgent start to the day! The saikyo-yaki fish was particularly delightful. The staff members in charge of our room as well as others were all friendly and welcoming with warm smiles. We had a blissful time—thank you very much! I heard that fireflies can be seen in June and autumn brings beautiful foliage in the garden; I would love to visit again during another season at this wonderful accommodation.

    I had a relaxing time.

    Thank you for providing such a peaceful and relaxing time. The view from the Room was wonderful, and the sounds of trees, the river, and cicadas were soothing to the ears. The open-air bath had just the right temperature, allowing us to enjoy it at our leisure, and the drink service was excellent. Every meal was beautifully presented and delicate, reflecting the care and warmth of those who prepared them. The rice served at dinner and breakfast was cooked with different types of grains, both equally delicious. During our meal, my husband went to rest in the bedroom as he felt tired (we sincerely apologize for this). The staff kindly offered thoughtful gestures like preparing rice balls or keeping dessert in the refrigerator for later enjoyment—this attention to detail made us very happy. Thanks to all your warm-hearted staff members' excellent hospitality, we had an incredibly satisfying stay. Thank you very much!

    Tsubaki Revisit

    I revisited Tsubaki. How many times has it been now? The staff always provide warm and pleasant service, and the Facility is spacious and impeccably clean. Above all, the luxurious meals are truly impressive, both in quality and quantity. Additionally, the lounge offers a variety of refreshments such as draft beer, juice, and Häagen-Dazs ice cream, making it enjoyable even after a bath. It was a fulfilling one-night stay.

    For a birthday celebration

    Last weekend marked my 6th visit. Once again, I had a wonderful and elegant stay. The meals were both visually and gastronomically delightful (though they might have been even better in the past?!), and I appreciated the thoughtful gesture for my birthday celebration. I enjoyed the onsen three times, and perhaps because it was a Friday stay, it was almost like having a private bath each time (the least crowded I've ever experienced). For the first time, I chose the course that included Yonezawa beef steak or tender abalone stew. The steak portion was surprisingly generous (it might be too much for those with smaller appetites!). The staff at this accommodation are always very pleasant, leaving a great impression. This time, our assigned attendant's service and attentiveness were exceptional! (Out of all six visits, this was by far the most satisfying experience.) While not a new building, everything is well-maintained and clean (I haven't used the room's bath yet...). Small details such as having cleansing products in the large communal bath area, Mikimoto lotion and emulsion in the changing room, and free towels available to use (though I don't waste them!) are significant plus points for me! Additionally, I always look forward to enjoying alcohol and ice cream at the lounge between 3 PM to 6 PM. Since it's an onsen accommodation, honestly speaking, winter feels more fitting; however, even during summer, outdoor baths are comfortable. This time our room was on the first floor so we could feed koi fish—this made me happy as well. However, there was one disappointing point during this visit: it was very hot near both the entrance of the bathing area and in the lounge. Was it due to an air conditioning issue or consecutive days of extreme heat? This has never happened before but unfortunately stood out this time (hence giving facilities 3 stars instead of 5; overall rating is 4 stars instead of my usual perfect score). It’s not inexpensive but definitely worth its price as a ryokan (value-for-money depends on personal perspective). That said—it would be nice if it were slightly more affordable... though this time we benefited from sale pricing. Thank you very much for your hospitality once again! I'm looking forward to visiting again soon—and hope that next time your lounge will be back at a comfortable temperature. (P.S.) If you're reading this as someone planning their first visit with high expectations—please lower them just slightly!

    I had the opportunity to visit Tsubaki, a place I had always wanted to go, as part of a trip to show appreciation to my mother. The staff's excellent service made my mother very happy. While it was unfortunate that there was a group monopolizing the lounge, seeing my mother's joyful expression was thanks to all of you, and I am truly grateful.

    Perfect for trips with parents.

    I chose this place as a way to show gratitude to my parents, even though it was a bit pricey. The atmosphere felt somewhat old-fashioned, but it was clean and well-maintained, which made it comfortable. The Room had an older design, so there were some inconveniences and signs of wear. The staff were polite and there was no one unpleasant, but I didn’t get the impression of professional-level service. The dining staff worked hard but seemed rushed, speaking quickly to the point where I felt I needed to be considerate of their stress. Given the cost of staying here, I found myself being more critical than usual. That said, the meals were excellent for both breakfast and dinner!

    Enjoy a relaxing time surrounded by greenery. The in-room dining provided a calm and comfortable experience. The Onsen was excellent, as expected from Yugawara, leaving my skin smooth and refreshed. Meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious, served on charming tableware with intricate dishes.     We expected improvements.

    Approximately two and a half months after an unpleasant stay at the end of March. We considered changing accommodations, but the annual event of watching fireflies from the garden of this accommodation during this season was something we looked forward to, so we decided on our 12th stay (according to my father). Although we were surprised that the firefly event became a paid activity starting this year, my elderly parents were satisfied as they could enjoy watching fireflies in the garden with minimal movement. However, there are still issues that make us wonder why such things cannot be managed better. For instance, despite informing both by phone and email (twice) about our wish to participate in the firefly viewing event, it was not communicated to our room attendant. Additionally, when I conveyed my drink preferences for dinner to the room attendant, it was not passed on to the staff handling dinner service. Furthermore, an item I purchased at the shop (and had already paid for) was not handed over even after I put on my shoes at checkout; only after prompting did they finally bring it out. Is there no confirmation or handover process among staff? I believe many people choose this accommodation because they admire it. For first-time guests, even minor inconveniences might be overshadowed by positive impressions of their stay here. However, isn’t providing consistently pleasant service for repeat guests what truly makes an accommodation first-class? As we were leaving, we received words of apology from the manager regarding last time’s unpleasant experience. Yugawara is a rare Onsen destination where one can truly relax without being overwhelmed by inbound tourism like Hakone. This time (perhaps for the first time?), I was greeted with "Welcome back" upon arrival at the accommodation. However, since staff seem to change every visit here, honestly speaking, it didn’t feel genuine or heartfelt yet. If familiar staff members could greet us with "Welcome back," that would truly capture what makes returning visits special and worthwhile!

    The best accommodation.

    Even on rainy days, I was able to relax in the open-air bath in the Room. I could see a few fireflies as well. The meals were excellent. I deeply appreciate that you offered both dinner and breakfast to my daughter's memorial photo.

    I was able to show my gratitude to my parents!

    My mother wanted to stay here once, so we had the pleasure of visiting this time. It was raining on the day of our arrival, but a staff member was already waiting with an umbrella when we arrived. In the lobby, we were welcomed with matcha tea, which made us feel very elegant. The Onsen, meals—everything exceeded our expectations—but above all, the hospitality from the staff truly made this accommodation exceptional! My elderly parents were also very happy and said they would love to visit again during autumn foliage season! Special thanks to the head chef and everyone else! Thanks to you all, I gained some weight in just one night! Thank you for such a wonderful time!

    Exceptional hospitality! Quiet and peaceful! You can even see fireflies!

    We visited for my mother's 50th birthday. It was our first time, but when I called because I had made a mistake with the reservation date, the wonderful response raised my expectations. Although we declined the suggested cake and flowers due to being from afar, during dinner, we were surprised by a gift of chopsticks from the accommodation! Both of us were astonished and deeply moved... It made us so happy. The meal plan allowed us to choose between steak or abalone, but when steak was served first and we asked about it, they said abalone would also be served! Could it really be possible to enjoy both? It was pure bliss. Coincidentally, on the day of our stay, an event to see fireflies had just started. We attended and were overwhelmed by seeing fireflies gracefully dancing in silence up close. When we mentioned that we missed out on ice cream at the lounge because its hours had passed, they even brought ice cream to our room! What incredible hospitality... This has become my favorite ryokan ever. Moreover, there were no inbound guests; all staff members were Japanese! We will definitely visit again. It became a memory of a lifetime—thank you so much!!

    Completely Satisfied

    Impressive and attentive service. Complimentary drinks (sake, beer, etc.), ice cream, and snacks were provided in the lounge after bathing. The Room's refrigerator offered free beverages such as beer, juice, tea, and soda. What particularly impressed my husband was how the staff member who guided us to our Room noticed his larger build and proactively replaced his yukata with an LL size without us having to ask. We were thoroughly satisfied with the thoughtful hospitality that extended beyond what can be described here, delicious meals, a beautiful Room, and stunning views! We will definitely become repeat guests!

    It was the best accommodation.

    This trip was a gift from our sons to celebrate our 60th birthday. Tsubaki was the accommodation we visited during our honeymoon. It brought back many special memories for us. The exceptional hospitality and exquisite cuisine, which were already amazing 35 years ago, have only evolved further since then. Next time, we hope to visit with the sons who gave us this wonderful gift. Thank you very much!

    I stayed at Tsuruya in Yugawara for some errands. I had a wonderful time. My husband also liked it and said he wants to visit again. We loved everything—the food, the room, the onsen, the tranquility, and the greenery.

    I have visited this accommodation several times and always enjoy a relaxing stay, forgetting the usual hustle and bustle. The building is not new, so there are some steps, but it gives the impression of being well-renovated. The staff's service was warm and not overly formal, making for a pleasant stay. This time, I stayed in a room facing the pond and was kindly provided with koi fish food multiple times (thank you). The large public bath was excellent, and the sauna exceeded 100 degrees Celsius, allowing me to sweat thoroughly; however, it would be even better if there were a cold bath available. While I fully understand that this is an onsen ryokan, I believe more guests who enjoy saunas are visiting recently, so I would appreciate your consideration on this matter.

    It was a lovely Ryok...

    It was a lovely Ryokan with a calm and pleasant atmosphere. The Onsen and meals were excellent, and the staff were kind, accommodating our request to switch from a low table to a regular table with chairs during our stay. We are grateful for their thoughtfulness, which made our trip enjoyable.
