We had a wonderful time.
This was my first stay at Tsubaki. I had wanted to visit this Accommodation for a long time, so I was thrilled to finally make it happen. Just as I had hoped, the food was delicious and the open-air bath in the Room was outstanding. I was very satisfied. The staff were also very pleasant and welcoming. I would definitely like to return.

The perfect accommodation for your family’s special milestones
We stayed here to celebrate my father’s 70th birthday. The flowers we requested in advance were prepared far more lavishly than the price suggested, which made us very happy. There were also thoughtful touches such as special chopstick rests for the occasion, and an extra dish added to our dinner. We truly appreciate your warm hospitality. The female staff member in charge of our Room was pleasant, and her natural, comfortable service left a strong impression. She paid close attention to details, and we were able to relax with peace of mind throughout our stay. The Room was wonderful as well, and we were soothed by the beautiful greenery outside the window and the gentle sound of the river. The large public bath was available even late at night, and there was a great selection of amenities, making it very comfortable. We enjoyed the Onsen many times during our stay and fully savored it to our heart’s content. My father was delighted too, and it became a memorable 70th birthday celebration for our family. We were extremely satisfied with the attentive care and comfortable setting. We would love to visit again in a different season.

We had a relaxing stay.
On the 9th, the weather was bad, and we drove from Gotemba to Yugawara, but the fog was heavy and made driving difficult. At the Ryokan, the room attendant was very kind and took good care of us. Compared with our previous visit (about 20 years ago), we felt a little less satisfied with the meals, which was disappointing.

A Pleasant One-Night Stay
The Onsen, meals, Room, and staff service were all excellent, and I had a very pleasant stay from check-in to check-out. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared dish by dish, and everything was delicious. Since the meals were served in the Room, the attendant brought each course at just the right time, so hot dishes stayed hot and cold dishes stayed cold. The menu focused on seasonal items, bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients. The tableware matched the cuisine well; in particular, the miso soup bowl lid featured bell crickets and chrysanthemums, which perfectly suited the season. I took my time and truly enjoyed the meal. The same person handled breakfast as well, which was also a nice touch. The large public bath had an abundant flow of water, and it felt great to soak in the spacious tub. The washing area was also easy to use. A beer in the lounge after bathing was wonderful. The Room was spacious and relaxing. The staff member in charge of laying out and putting away the futon did so very quickly. It was unfortunate that it rained during my stay, but it was still a comfortable one-night stay overall. If I had to mention one drawback: part of the driveway for entering/exiting the parking lot felt difficult to drive on and somewhat slippery.

Precisely because this Accommodation comes with high expectations
I stayed here as a solo traveler. The bath was thoroughly cleaned and very pleasant, and the staff were kind overall, so I was able to relax. The food was delicious overall, and the fish ball and pike conger soup in particular left a strong impression. The fish balls were full of flavor, and the pike conger was tender and flaky; I enjoyed it with sake. I was also satisfied with the quality of the beef itself and its flavor. However, considering the price range and my expectations for a long-established luxury Ryokan, I honestly felt there were many moments where “a little more attentiveness” would have made a difference. Upon arrival, there were about three staff members at the entrance, but they all went to assist a couple who arrived after me. After taking off my shoes first, I was left standing there unsure of where to go. Also, when my luggage was carried to my room, it bumped into corridor corners twice, which concerned me. As for the meal presentation, in the photo the beef included neatly shaped pieces mixed with long thin pieces and small scraps-like parts, giving an untidy impression. Some parts of the sashimi also had sinew that stood out. Both tasted good, which is why I feel that more careful selection of ingredients—as well as knife work and plating—would have made me even more satisfied. The garden view from the room—and the scenery of rain over the mountains—was atmospheric; however, dirt on the window glass was noticeable, which was disappointing given how nice the view could have been. It wasn’t that service was bad or that the food wasn’t good. In fact there were many positives; precisely because of that, each issue may have been small on its own but felt regrettable in accumulation. Given this Accommodation’s price and reputation, my honest impression is that I had hoped for a stay where even those details would make me think “as expected.”

We were very satisfied.
This was an Accommodation I had wanted to visit for a long time. I was fully satisfied with the Room, the bath, and the meals. As it was early September, the menu featured dishes for the Choyo Festival. The beautifully prepared cuisine, along with adorable rabbit-themed touches, reflected the chef’s thoughtful hospitality, and I would love to visit again in a different season.

We chose Yugawara because it’s close to Yokohama, and decided to stay at Tsubaki. They kindly accommodated our low-sodium meals, and the head chef even treated us to an extra dish. The staff member in charge was also very helpful, and we were extremely satisfied. One small disappointment was that it was a bit far from the Room to the large public bath. The open-air bath in the Room was available 24 hours a day, which was wonderful. We would definitely like to visit again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

Great Onsen and delicious meals
We fully enjoyed the large public bath, the open-air bath in our Room, and the Onsen. The water was gentle on the skin and very soothing. Both dinner and breakfast were high quality and satisfying. The staff were attentive, and we felt truly refreshed. We will definitely return.

Enjoy a Ryotei Stay
After a scenic drive along the coastline and up the Orange Line, we stayed at an elegant, traditional high-end Japanese Ryokan in the tranquil Oku-Yugawara area. While not modern, it has a wonderful sense of character and charm. We thoroughly enjoyed the refined hospitality of the staff, restaurant-quality cuisine, and the in-Room Onsen while gazing out at the greenery. The Guest House where we stayed had a very spacious layout, offering an openness you won’t find at Western-style Onsen Accommodations in the same class, along with a calming atmosphere that feels pleasantly nostalgic. The kaiseki course served in our Room was a true delight for our whole family—an exquisite harmony of fresh premium ingredients and skilled craftsmanship. If I had to mention anything that stood out, it would be that the entire Room had a slight musty smell, and the operating noise from the air conditioner and multiple air purifiers was quite loud, which somewhat diminished the peaceful ambiance. That said, our overall satisfaction more than made up for it, and I believe this is a precious Japanese Ryokan that continues to preserve tradition in today’s world. Next time, I would love to return when the camellias (tsubaki) are in full bloom. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

A Warm Welcome That Delights All Five Senses
A quiet retreat nestled deep in lush green mountains. We escaped the bustle of everyday life for a calm, grown-up getaway—also to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. The Onsen was wonderfully gentle on the skin; soaking slowly, the fatigue of daily life seemed to melt away as if it had never been there. After bathing, we enjoyed a rich variety of dishes carefully prepared with local seasonal ingredients—truly heartfelt cuisine. The attendant’s explanations were excellent, and the warm service made every delicious dish taste even better. It was a luxurious time that let us feel the season with all five senses. It became an unforgettable adult holiday that nourished both body and soul from the core. As a memento of this Ryokan, I purchased a camellia-pattern tea bowl. We were able to recharge with plenty of precious energy for tomorrow and beyond. Thank you very much!

Thank you for the delicious meals and the peaceful, relaxing time.
This was our second stay. Even though we arrived a little early, everyone welcomed us warmly with kind smiles—it almost made me want to say, “I’m home.” This time we chose the “Relax in the Premium Lounge Plan,” and after our bath we were able to unwind in the charming antique lounge at the guesthouse, enjoying delicious drinks and treats such as Yugawara mandarin jelly. For our Room, we selected a Japanese-Western style room this time, and we were very satisfied with the spacious layout and comfortable beds. However, since it was on the second floor, we couldn’t feed the koi from our Room as I had been looking forward to, which was a bit disappointing. The meals were beautiful seasonal kaiseki cuisine—each dish was not only delicious but also like a work of art—and once again we enjoyed everything. My husband said the ayu sweetfish was exceptional. Since both my husband and I enjoy pottery as a hobby, we also took our time admiring each piece of tableware. That said, it was very disappointing that some of the dishes had small chips. We would love to visit again in autumn for another wonderful meal. Thank you for the gentle hot spring water, delicious food, and outstanding hospitality.

Compared to Hakone, Oku-Yugawara is generally more affordable. Within Oku-Yugawara, this place is on the higher-priced side, but the food was delicious and I felt it offered great value for money. I’d like to visit again.

We stayed here to celebrate my father’s 80th birthday. The traditional summer-style Japanese Room setting was wonderful and unlike anywhere else, and I’m glad my parents liked it and said it felt relaxing. Some of the Facility features were a bit dated, but the Room was spacious and had the feel of a luxury Ryokan. Since our Room had an open-air bath, we enjoyed soaking many times, cooling off on the terrace, and relaxing while feeding the koi. However, dinner took too long to be served course by course—three and a half hours felt excessive. It also limited the time we had for the open-air bath afterward, and my father looked tired and sleepy by the end. That said, the food was delicious as expected, and there were three different dipping sauces for the sashimi, which made for a unique experience. It’s such a good Ryokan that I hope this is something they can improve.

Perfect for Families
I was extremely satisfied with both the meals and the Onsen during my stay. The meals in particular were outstanding—every dish was delicious, and the flavor, presentation, and overall content were all excellent. Personally, I would give the dining experience a perfect 100. That said, because one delicious dish after another kept coming, I ended up very full by the end. Since each item is so wonderful, I think guests would still be fully satisfied even if the overall portion size were slightly smaller. The Onsen also deserves a 100. I was able to relax at a leisurely pace and soothe my everyday fatigue. The Facility also had a calm atmosphere and was very comfortable. My impression here would be around 90 points. If I may make one request, slightly brighter lighting in the building and guest rooms would make it even easier to spend time comfortably. Overall, this was an Accommodation with an exceptionally high level of satisfaction. I am grateful for the hospitality of all the staff members as well. If I have another opportunity, I would definitely like to visit again.

A Ryokan you’ll want to return to again and again
This was our fifth or sixth stay, and once again we had a very comfortable time. What made us especially happy was that the staff member in charge of our Room from our previous visit remembered us. They even remembered that we stayed with my mother-in-law last time, and we were truly touched by their thoughtfulness. As always, the meals were delicious, with seasonal dishes as well—everything met our expectations once again. The premium lounge was also excellent. We used it after the Onsen, and there was a wide variety of soft drinks, so even someone like me who doesn’t drink much alcohol could fully enjoy it. This is a wonderful Ryokan where you can feel warm hospitality no matter how many times you visit. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

The Room with an open-air bath overlooks a pond, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Watching the koi swim gracefully while reading, I even dozed off—it felt like being at my grandparents’ home in the countryside. I enjoyed the cuisine, which leaned toward tea kaiseki and was delicious. Personally, I think it could be even more focused on tea kaiseki. There also seem to be areas for improvement in the seasonal decor and presentation in the Room and throughout the Ryokan. With such a wonderful location, I believe you could welcome guests with more carefully arranged seasonal touches. This is a Ryokan full of memories for me, so I hope you will continue striving with pride as a luxury Ryokan.

Our first family trip with our daughter
This was our first trip with our 10-month-old daughter to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The reasons we chose this Accommodation were: - A comfortable driving distance from Yokohama - In-room dining, a private bath, Onsen, and a luxurious feel - Great Reviews Since it was our first time traveling with a baby, we made several mistakes on the way. We missed the timing for our daughter’s lunch and forgot to bring baby drinks, so by the time we arrived at the parking lot my wife and I were already panicking. When I asked the staff member assisting us in the parking lot if there was a drugstore nearby where we could quickly buy drinks, they said it would take about 20 minutes round trip. However, from that single question they coordinated with the Ryokan team and showed incredible consideration: they guided us to our Room before completing check-in procedures, and they prepared baby barley tea for every meal. It helped us so much. We are truly glad we chose this Accommodation for our first family trip. The Room also had baby body wash and a high chair ready for us, and they even warmed up the baby food we brought using a microwave and delivered it to us. At bedtime they laid out three adult futons, so our daughter—who has started rolling around—could move freely and seemed very happy. This was an extremely kind Accommodation for first-time parents traveling with a child: they anticipated what we might need and proactively offered suggestions. We could enjoy drinks in the lounge; my wife is breastfeeding so she can’t drink yet, but she was very satisfied with Häagen-Dazs ice cream and apple juice. All of the staff were always smiling and spoke kindly to our daughter as well, which made this birthday trip a wonderful memory. Highly recommended for anyone staying with a baby!

In-Room dining served one dish at a time with perfect timing. The stairs were not an issue.
On the first night of a three-night trip with my elderly mother, we stayed in the guest annex “Hikaru Genji.” The official website notes “about 10 steps of stairs before the guest room,” which worried me, but because all movement is completed indoors, it was not an issue. You can drive right up to the entrance, and my mother had no trouble going back and forth inside. There are also stairs to the large public bath, but we were able to get there without problems. That said, the interior layout may be a matter of preference. Although it is 130 m², the main room, bedroom, and restroom are arranged around an earthen-floor area (doma), so you pass through it even when going to the restroom. Because the spaces are separated, it did not feel as large as the number suggests. The in-room bath has a wooden tub and was very pleasant; my mother could use it comfortably as well. However, the thermometer was a rugged type where you keep the sensor immersed in the tub, which felt out of place for an Accommodation with this level of elegance. Dinner was served in our Room and was truly outstanding. One point worth noting is that these guest rooms are located quite deep inside the building. Even though dishes had to be carried over slopes and steps, each course arrived at exactly the right timing—hot items hot and cold items cold. That may sound standard, but making it happen over that distance is no small feat. The sardine fish-ball soup had beautifully drawn dashi—an exemplary kaiseki dish. For an additional order of Ise lobster onigara-yaki (shell-grilled), they even consulted with us in advance about serving order to match wine and sake pairings. I expected half a lobster per person but received one whole lobster each; with that fragrant shell-grilled aroma added, it tasted twice as good. The table-and-chair seating also made things easy for my mother. Breakfast rice cooked in a clay pot was delicious—we liked it so much we asked for another whole pot. I was especially impressed by our attendant’s knowledge and attentiveness. They shared many stories—such as this Accommodation’s 45-year history and how more Hokkaido ingredients have been used since joining its current group 15 years ago. When I asked for ice, they brought it in a carefully sealed container; I almost felt sorry having them make repeated trips through a building with many level changes. In the lounge after bathing, we enjoyed draft beer, plum wine liqueur (umeshu), and ice cream while spending some calm time. Just one note: when we were escorted to our Room at check-in، we were given incorrect information about ordering kama-meshi (rice cooked in an iron pot)—we were told it would be fine even after dinner started (it should be requested at reception by 5:00 p.m.). We hadn’t planned to order it anyway so there was no harm done، but I’m mentioning it just in case.

A wonderful, family-friendly Accommodation with thoughtful hospitality
This Accommodation was a perfect 100/100—absolutely satisfying. Just as the Reviews said, the meals were delicious, and even the standard lounge had an excitingly wide selection of alcoholic drinks. Bath towels and face towels were provided in the bath area, so there was no need to bring them from the Room, and it was great to always be able to use fresh ones. The women’s changing room had a large number of hair dryers, and both those and the in-room hair dryer were Repronizers—I was genuinely impressed that such a wonderful Accommodation goes this far. We stayed with our 2-year-old child, and we truly appreciated all the warm consideration we received. There was a diaper trash bin in the toilet, baby shampoo and body soap in the in-room open-air bath, and kids’ amenities prepared for us. We were told in advance that “light snacks will be provided for children,” but both breakfast and dinner were surprisingly luxurious and wonderful—our child was delighted and finished everything. Our attendant also remembered our child’s name and called them by it many times, which made us very happy. Thank you as well for washing our food scissors/cutter. We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. It had the classic feel of a Ryokan and was a calm, relaxing space. The Room was spacious, and we loved the beautiful view of the pond in the courtyard garden. We also used the premium lounge and enjoyed cheesecake, fruit, draft beer, wine, and more. It was open until 9:00 p.m., so we were happy to be able to stop by after dinner as well. The meals were great overall, and breakfast in particular left a strong impression for how delicious it was. Even though it must have been nearly fully booked for Obon, the Onsen felt almost private both morning and night, so we could unwind at our own pace. Overall we were very satisfied considering the price, and with easy access from central Tokyo, we would love to visit again.

It was a great accommodation!
We stayed here for a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary. What left the strongest impression was the food. Both the quality and portion sizes were outstanding, and among the many Onsen Ryokan we have visited, this was easily the best cuisine we’ve had. The grilled spiny lobster in its shell we enjoyed this time was also exquisite. In addition, because it was our anniversary, they kindly prepared an extra dish for us, which truly warmed our hearts. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of items and was a feast for the eyes as well. The rice cooked in a traditional pot was delicious—I ended up eating far more than I intended. All of the staff provided naturally warm and pleasant service, including their greetings when we passed them in the building. In particular, the attendant in charge of our Room was wonderful: explanations of each dish were polite and easy to understand, yet never overly familiar—an ideal sense of distance that made us feel very comfortable. Thank you very much. From our Room we could look out over the pond, and feeding the koi fish was great fun. The Accommodation even provided fish food, which became a small but delightful highlight. The interior has a calm atmosphere and some areas convey its history, but everything is kept so impeccably clean that it never felt old at all—we had an extremely comfortable stay. This time we didn’t plan any sightseeing and simply relaxed at the Accommodation—and that turned out to be exactly right. We fully enjoyed spending time there. Including their thoughtful anniversary gesture, this is an Onsen Ryokan where you can truly appreciate exceptional cuisine and hospitality—one we would love to visit again. We’re genuinely glad we chose to spend our anniversary trip here.
