Introducing Hakuba Troimerei and the Owner’s Vision
Leave the national highway and head into the mountain road,
and before long you’ll find yourself on a path that winds through the trees.
You can hear birds singing—
but what kind of birds are they?
As the scent of the air changes and the breeze against your cheeks turns a little cooler,
it won’t be long before a Western-style manor appears, quietly nestled among the woods.
Park your car and walk in, weaving between the trees,
and its white walls and timeworn columns will make you forget you’re in Japan,
leaving you with the illusion
that you’ve stepped into Europe of another era.
This is Auberge Traumerei,
standing in a beautiful forest in Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture.
Since opening in 1981,
in Hakuba’s clear mountain air,
Traumerei has welcomed guests as an auberge,
serving authentic French cuisine
paired with wines chosen to complement each dish perfectly.
Whether it’s your first visit
or you’ve been returning for years,
our seasonal menus that make full use of carefully selected ingredients
continue to earn high praise from our guests.
And then there is Hakuba itself—the air and water nurtured and refined by its mountains.
There is no doubt these elements also support Traumerei’s cuisine—worthy of Michelin-star aspirations.
France is about a 10-hour flight away.
But some may feel that such a long journey is simply too demanding.
In Hakuba, however, you can reach us easily by car
or by train.
If you’re craving French cuisine,
flying to France is certainly one option—but we invite you to visit Traumerei instead.
We look forward to welcoming you with authentic French dishes, fine French wines,
and heartfelt service.
