Experience tradition and warm hospitality at this Accommodation, and enjoy our private hot spring source and an authentic Finnish smoke sauna.

Awara Onsen “Traditional Ryokan Warmth Haiya” stays true to the essence of hospitality, featuring an entrance recreated by master temple carpenters to reflect the original doorway from its founding in 1884, a large public bath where you can enjoy free ganbanyoku (hot-stone spa)—the only one in Awara Onsen—along with a newly added garden sauna and cuisine showcasing the finest flavors of Fukui and Awara. With deep respect for history and warmth, our guiding principle is to create an Accommodation that is kind to people. In the comforting atmosphere of a traditional Ryokan that feels like coming home, enjoy a soothing time for both body and mind—experience the hospitality of Awara Onsen “Haiya.”

  • The Room was spacious, and we thoroughly enjoyed the large public bath. Each dish was served in a small portion, making it just the right amount to finish everything. Thank you as well for your thoughtful consideration after I mentioned my protein restriction. However, I was a little disappointed that the shabu-shabu meat at dinner and the grilled fish at breakfast—items I had asked to be served as-is—were changed to vegetables, so I shared some from others. Overall, it was very good.

  • We were completely satisfied with this Accommodation in every way: a warm welcome, a wide variety of delicious kaiseki cuisine, the Onsen, and spacious Rooms. It was our first time in Awara Onsen, and we stayed as a group of 10; they asked us about various details even before our stay, and we were able to enjoy our time smoothly and pleasantly. As the organizer, I’m relieved that we chose Haiya. We also appreciated the young proprietress’s OMOTENASHI hospitality, and the attendants were wonderful as well.Thank you very much.

  • Garden Sauna Now Open!

    [Garden Sauna]
The sauna room features striking sauna stones, recreating an authentic Finnish smoke sauna. There is an approximately 20°C temperature difference (70°C–90°C) between the upper and lower tiers, so everyone can choose their preferred spot and comfortably enjoy invigorating heat and steam.

Just outside the sauna room is a spacious circular cold plunge that can accommodate 5–6 people with room to spare. An Onsen bath is also available further inside.

Experience true relaxation in our sauna designed for the ultimate “löyly.”

Fukui-grown timber is used for the sauna walls and deck. Known for its beautiful grain, it also offers excellent color, strength, and durability.
The large bath uses Shakudani stone (also known as Echizen Aoishi), a rare stone once quarried from Mt. Asuwa in Fukui City. It has been used in places such as Maruoka Castle roof tiles, Fukui Castle stone walls, and wells at the Asakura Clan Ruins.
