The lobby smelled wonderful—I could have stayed there all day. At breakfast, there was only one toaster, and a guest from overseas helped by putting items in together. It would be better to have a second toaster, or one that toasts faster. The Hotel itself felt hot. In the middle of the night, my husband and I woke up at about the same time saying, “It’s hot!” We set the air conditioning to 22°C, but it didn’t cool down at all, so we couldn’t sleep properly until morning. I felt sorry for the staff working in such heat.

Ideal for guests who enjoy drinking alcohol.

I stayed on the executive floor. The Room’s wooden flooring felt refreshingly different, and the touch panel on the mirror was convenient. The bathtub was a bit small, but there were two types of showers and they were very pleasant. The bathrobe was also fluffy and nice. In addition, having a Nespresso machine was great, and I personally liked that the water came in glass bottles. The lounge is probably a good place for those who drink alcohol, but for non-drinkers there weren’t many beverage options. I would like to see sparkling water and non-alcoholic beer available. The same goes for the breakfast venue—if sparkling wine is offered in the morning, I would also like sparkling water to be available. Breakfast was delicious.

    Highly satisfied

It was a new Hotel, and I was very satisfied that the bathroom and toilet were separate. Breakfast offered a good variety of Japanese and Western options, and everything was delicious. Thank you to all the staff at the Hotel.

    I was satisfied.

This was my first stay. The breakfast was delicious, and the Room was clean and comfortable. I could also check how crowded the bath and breakfast area were, so I had a stress-free stay.

    Stylish Hotel

I stayed over the weekend, and it wasn’t too crowded, so I was able to relax. The breakfast and the Executive Room were excellent. I noticed some dust in the closet and on the shelves, which bothered me a little. Overall, I’m satisfied.

This was my third stay this year. I wanted to introduce this highly recommended Hotel, so this time I brought a friend. We had a wonderful time, chatting nonstop in the Executive Lounge and the Social Lounge.\nThank you as always. I’ll be back again soon.

    Refresh Time

It was my first stay, and the Room was a spacious double room. As it is a new Hotel, the Room had a functional layout, and I appreciated being able to check information such as how crowded the large public bath was. In the large public bath, I could use ReFa showerheads and hair dryers, and the shampoo and other amenities had a fresh scent—everything was excellent. At the restaurant, I ordered à la carte for dinner; there were also menu items featuring Nara specialties, which I enjoyed. The breakfast buffet let me sample Nara specialties and local signature dishes, and I was very satisfied. I would definitely like to stay again next time.

It’s one of my favorites, and I stay here often.

I love the Executive Lounge and use it often. When it gets crowded, I’ll be honest—my satisfaction drops, but when it’s not too busy, my satisfaction is incredibly high! Since the weather was nice, I enjoyed drinks on the outdoor terrace; the atmosphere was great, quiet, and perfect. This time, the food selection had changed completely. Since I stay here often, I think it would be even more enjoyable if the light snacks were updated regularly. The Room was clean and spotless, and very relaxing. I choose a Room with a bathtub each time; it’s comfortable enough that I’m fully satisfied without needing to use the public bath. I’ll continue to stay here regularly.

A wonderful Hotel where you can fully enjoy a Nara stay that feels like living there.

Compared with Kyoto, Nara City has long had far fewer Hotels, and for many visitors—especially from the Kansai area—Nara sightseeing often meant a day trip to visit favorite shrines and temples, view National Treasure Buddhist statues, and stroll around Nara Park. In the past few years, however, a wave of new Hotel openings has expanded the options, and it feels like the way people engage with Nara is changing. I myself used to stay only occasionally at a certain city Hotel near JR Nara Station, but lately I’ve been actively planning two-night trips to Nara and have come to enjoy choosing where to stay. On IKYU Reviews for Novotel Nara, there were several harsh comments that seemed mainly related to operations right after opening, so I hesitated. But an attractive rate starting from the last day of Golden Week and Diamond member benefits convinced me to give it a try for the first time. In short: it was absolutely the right choice. A new Hotel is wonderful in itself. My Plan wasn’t for an especially large Room, but the layout was thoughtfully designed with excellent use of space. There was also a large panel by the entrance showing in-house information such as breakfast venue crowd levels, plus a big sofa that made it very comfortable. I had both breakfast and dinner buffet-style. Breakfast didn’t have an overwhelming number of items, but offered both Japanese and Western options and was more than sufficient—especially with plenty of freshly baked bread and fruit. It was also great being able to enjoy sparkling wine in the morning. Dinner focused on Italian cuisine; the pizza baked in an authentic wood-fired oven was particularly delicious. There were many international guests, so the front desk team seemed set up accordingly—but their Japanese was very good. This Hotel’s location is away from central areas like Nara Park, but there is a convenient Shuttle Service jointly operated with the neighboring JW Marriott. The Tsutaya Bookstore at the convention center is nearby as well, and so is Kuruminoki—a café-restaurant that has become quite famous—all within walking distance. Rather than rushing around sightseeing everywhere, this felt like an ideal Hotel for spending relaxed time in Nara as if you lived here. I liked it so much that I added one more night—and I’ll definitely be back again.

    As a Diamond member ...

As a Diamond member benefit, we received an in-house voucher worth 1,000 yen per person and enjoyed hamburgers. They cut them into four pieces so we could try each variety, and every one was delicious. I was especially surprised by how tender the pork cutlet was. It’s a bit of a walk from the station, but using the Mikasa Junior High School bus stop made it easy to visit Yakushiji Temple and Toshodaiji Temple and enjoy Saika Ramen—an excellent Nara trip. The staff were all very kind, making our stay even more enjoyable. Thank you very much.

    Nara Trip

We stayed in an Executive Room for two nights. We enjoyed relaxing in the lounge with drinks, and the food was delicious. Even though the staff were busy, they treated us with great care, and we are very grateful. Thank you very much. Breakfast was also excellent, and the entire Hotel was filled with a pleasant scent that made us feel relaxed. The Room was clean as well, and we would love to stay again someday.

This was my first stay. I stayed on the Executive Floor, but there was no skincare set. Since some guests may book at short notice, it would be helpful to have one available. The Club Lounge had a great variety of food, which was excellent, but children were also allowed during cocktail time, so it felt more like a family restaurant. Those two points were a bit disappointing. Otherwise, the large public bath system was good, and the service was also very good.

Overall, I think it is a good Accommodation.

The Hotel and the Room were very clean, and the atmosphere felt like an overseas hotel! However, the large public bath was small—it seemed like it would be full with about five people. We also had the Hotel buffet for dinner, but it was mainly Western-style and the seasoning felt somewhat ethnic; none of the six of us liked it. It was disappointing for the price. Breakfast was average!

We stayed in an Executive Junior Suite.

Although we stayed on a weekday, it was quite crowded at check-in, perhaps because it was cherry blossom season. However, since lounge access was included, we were able to relax there until we went out for dinner. The lounge staff were all very pleasant as well. This was our third stay at the Hotel, and we enjoyed the clean interior and breakfast offerings such as Asuka hot pot and tofu from a local tofu shop. However, as someone mentioned in a Review, the kakinoha sushi was disappointing, so I hope this will be improved. Also, since the Diamond member benefit of a 3,000-yen in-house voucher can only be used for dining, we had no opportunity to use it because our Reservation already included lounge access and meals. It would be helpful if it could also be used for souvenirs.

A place in Nara you’ll want to stay at again and again.

This was my second stay. Since I booked a Room with access to the Executive Lounge, I had a light dinner there and enjoyed some delicious drinks. It was also conveniently located for sightseeing in Nara the next day, and I would definitely stay again.

    Very clean and satisfying.

It’s new, and the front desk service was very good. The Room was clean, and the Facility was modern and excellent. Breakfast was also delicious. Overall I’m very satisfied, but (1) there was no shoehorn in the Room, (2) I’d prefer the mineral water in the refrigerator not to be in a glass bottle—I can’t take it with me, and (3) the breakfast staff didn’t greet guests or seem friendly. Those three points were disappointing and should be improved.

    It was a relaxing Room.

It was a spacious and comfortable Room. The washbasin, clothes rack, sofa, and double bed were arranged with plenty of space, making it very relaxing to stay there. It is a little far from the city center, but that makes it more reasonably priced. Being able to enjoy freshly brewed coffee in the Room was a nice touch.

    Quiet and comfortable.

Conveniently located near the station, the property offers an excellent location. We especially appreciated being able to use the Shuttle Service and having access to a large public bath—both were wonderful for our family. The Room was equipped with new amenities, making our stay comfortable, and it was also spacious enough. The breakfast buffet the next morning offered a wide variety of local specialties, and overall it was a very pleasant stay.

I was truly surprised by the lack of amenities.

It wasn’t my first stay, but I was surprised again. There weren’t even cotton pads or memo paper… It’s below business-hotel level… I’ll be more careful next time… The service isn’t terrible, but I don’t feel any hospitality. When you go to the nearby Marriott, the difference in service is obvious. Of course, the pricing is different. Some foreign guests brought bath towels into the bathing area. At some spa pool facilities that’s allowed, so it may be unavoidable. With my Diamond benefits, we received preferential treatment at the restaurant, which felt like a good value. The wood-fired pizza was delicious all the way to the crust. It was my first time trying “buckwheat groats” from the dried-fruit section and they were great. The “monaka wafers” in the sweets section were fragrant and tasty as well. They use local ingredients and I ate plenty of vegetables—especially delicious shiitake mushrooms. Last time there was also a beef steak, but this time it was only pork and chicken; considering today’s beef prices, that’s understandable. Overall, it felt worth what I paid, so as long as you don’t expect too much there isn’t much to complain about. I’ll probably come again.

Lounge access available more than ten times.

As a Diamond member, I booked a club room and used the included ¥3,000 ticket in full to order red wine–braised spare ribs in the lounge, but it was too salty. It felt like it was prepared by a younger staff member.

This is not being managed from the guest’s perspective.

The Hotel’s Shuttle Service schedule from JR Nara Station is poorly timed. The bus runs twice an hour. I took the rapid train from Osaka and arrived at JR Nara Station at 16:49. The shuttle departed at 16:50, and the next one was at 17:20. Given the arrival times of rapid trains from Osaka, I wish it would wait until around 17:00 at least. Since the weather was fine, I ended up pulling my suitcase and walking to the Hotel, which took about 20 minutes. With such an inconvenient timetable, operating a shuttle is pointless. I think it should be reviewed together with JW Marriott, which co-operates on this service. I used an in-house restaurant with IKYU’s Diamond benefits, but the service and operations did not match the prices. For example, I was told that a burger they recently started selling cannot be taken out like McDonald’s. Even if it is not room service, it would be helpful if guests could buy it at the social lounge and enjoy it in their rooms—unless this is due to health department guidance. I used the Hotel’s lunch buffet on both a weekday and a weekend, but pricing felt somewhat high. The floor staff’s service skills also did not match the price point, leaving an overall sense of poor value. Even if I can stay at a good rate through IKYU, I feel there is still room to reconsider future stays.

The Room was spacious and comfortable.

I stayed here for one night in Nara. The Room was spacious, and the double bed was comfortably large. There was an LCD screen at the Room entrance where I could check the list of loan items and how crowded the bath area was. It was also the only clock in the Room. There were plenty of power outlets—by the bed pillow area, near the refrigerator, on the TV stand, and near the entrance—so I had no trouble using a humidifier and other devices. The hanger rack was wide and could hold many items. The in-house loungewear was roomy, and although the slippers were disposable, they weren’t thin and were comfortable to wear. The large public bath was nice, but some overseas guests brought their basket (provided in the Room for going to the bath) into the bathing area, or stepped into areas without changing out of their slippers as expected. The water temperature was on the lukewarm side. The bathing area itself was clean, and the ReFa shower head was easy to use.

    The worst.

I trusted the Reviews and went, but the bath water was lukewarm so I couldn’t warm up, the changing room air conditioning was too strong and it was freezing, and the perfume smell was so overpowering I couldn’t stand it. Dinner also had far too few dishes and didn’t fill me up, so I went to the lounge—but although it was supposed to be open until 9:30 p.m., the food was cleared away at 7:30 p.m., and all that remained were drunk older women talking loudly. I canceled my next Reservation on the spot. It felt like a Hotel focused on inbound tourists, so I won’t be returning. The Room was small too—disappointing.

    Breakfast is...

As I felt the last time I stayed, the breakfast was disappointing. There wasn’t much that made you want to eat more. Also, I think the drinks at this buffet are far too limited. The coffee takes far too long. I don’t think there is any intention to improve it. The staff quality is also too low. Condescending attitude. It’s a good Hotel, but it’s a shame.

    The Facility was new...

The Facility was new and very clean. I especially enjoyed the lovely decor. However, I felt the service hasn’t quite caught up with the wonderful building yet. When I asked at the front desk about a restaurant that offers takeout, I was told to “ask the restaurant directly.” We ate at the restaurant, but perhaps because most guests were using the buffet, staff did not come unless we called out several times—for menus, water, and even to place our order. Also, as a request, I would have been happy if IKYU benefits could be used for room service as well.

The front desk service was excellent. I was very satisfied with the Room, bathroom, and the thoughtful attention to small details. The breakfast buffet and tea porridge were delicious. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy wine in the morning as well. I will stay here again.

    Significant improvements are needed.

I have stayed and dined here many times since it opened. [What I liked] - Compared with reserving on the Hotel’s official website, choosing a Plan with IKYU Diamond benefits provided made a huge difference in dining privileges. It was also cheaper to Reserve through IKYU. - It was my first time staying in this Room, but it was spacious and well designed, with a nice view. - My requests made in advance were handled appropriately, and everything went smoothly. [What I was dissatisfied with] - There are pictograms posted inside the building to draw attention to rules and cautions, but where warnings truly need “words,” they should be clearly written out. - One of the two massage chairs on the 2nd floor was out of order, so I gave up using them. - Around 7:00 p.m. on my stay date, groups of European and Asian guests were lingering in the 1st-floor front desk area and it was very disruptive. Staff should guide them so they do not block other guests’ passage; I felt there was a lack of consideration. - I saw an Asian guest walking around the 1st-floor front desk area wearing Hotel loungewear. Areas where this is permitted are limited to the 2nd floor only. If they really needed to speak with staff, they should have used the in-room phone extension instead. - I have pointed this out before, but the system that allows easy access between the rooftop and the executive lounge should be reviewed. When I looked into the lounge from the rooftop in the evening, staff were away from their post; if someone entered during that time, how would you determine whether they tapped their room key or entered from the rooftop without authentication? - At breakfast, there were foreign guests eating while wearing slippers and pajamas even though it is prohibited; they were not turned away and continued their meal. There is a pictogram sign at the entrance, but it is meaningless if staff do not enforce it. - The dining staff seemed cool—many had expressionless faces—and overall lacked energy. Although this is otherwise an excellent Hotel, perhaps your policy is that strict rules would reduce comfort; however, please do not forget that inconsiderate guests can make other guests uncomfortable. My honest impression is that some operational details are unclear, and service standards are not consistently maintained.

This was my 5th or 6th stay, my first in four months since New Year’s. This time I had the Shin-Omiya Burger for lunch at the Social Lounge. It was juicy and delicious. The fries and salad were also great—I want to have it again. The female staff member at the Social Lounge provided very polite service and made me feel comfortable. The female staff at the front desk are polite, but both last time and this time I requested a humidifier and a hair iron, was told they would be prepared, but they were not provided... Since this happened twice, I can’t help wondering why. The lounge is relaxing and comfortable, but there is something that concerns me. Maybe it was because it was busy, but when an older guest asked how to use the lounge, the staff member who answered spoke in a harsh tone that sounded intimidating. Hearing it made me feel sad and uncomfortable. Please be a little kinder—at least respond in a normal manner. I have never seen anything like that at other Hotels, especially not in a lounge. It is inconvenient that one of the two relaxation massage chairs is out of order. I hope it will be fixed soon. For breakfast this time, fruit and yogurt were placed in a separate area, which helped spread people out—this was good. As I wrote last time as well, it’s wonderful that you quickly put everyone’s Reviews into practice!! However, there was quite a long wait before being seated, even though many seats were available once we were shown to our table. It’s a clean Hotel and one of my favorites, so I think I will stay again. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

    A disappointing impression.

The train noise is bothersome. Traffic noise is also noticeable. You can clearly hear sounds from the hallway as well. The shuttle bus runs infrequently. When returning to the Hotel, I walked from Shin-Omiya Station. Breakfast felt like a crowded station during rush hour in the morning. I was surprised to see people overflowing into the hallway. The selection is not particularly large, and the same goes for the room service menu. Overall, it left a disappointing impression.
