A Hotel with Excellent Facilities but Disappointing Services

We chose this Hotel expecting a spacious Japanese-Western style Room suitable for our 2-year-old child and a play area for kids. However, there were more disappointing aspects than positive ones, leaving an overall impression slightly below 3 stars. 【Positive Points】 - The Room was designed with thoughtful features like placing items at heights out of children's reach, which was very helpful for us. - The basement public bath area seemed newly renovated and was exceptionally clean. It also provided kid-friendly bath items, which we appreciated. 【Disappointing Points】 - Despite arriving about an hour after the 3 PM check-in time, we still had to wait 30 minutes to get our Room. Being told to wait in the lounge felt inconsiderate as we were already tired from traveling and eager to settle into our Room quickly. While this might be standard practice here, measures like increasing counter staff or improving efficiency could help reduce such delays. - Although apple juice and orange juice were available in the lounge drinks selection, only grapefruit juice was offered at breakfast (excluding drink bars). Considering the effort put into providing delicious beverages elsewhere in the Hotel, it would have been nice if these options were also available during breakfast—especially since this is a family-oriented Hotel where many children would prefer apple or orange juice over grapefruit juice. - Amenities replenishment throughout the stay was insufficient across various areas: public bath lotions, kid-friendly body soap, snacks in the lounge—all frequently ran out during our visit. Particularly concerning was how limited kid-friendly body soap supplies were despite being a family-focused Hotel with many children staying here. Running out of amenities is not something we've experienced at other Hotels before; it reflects poorly on their approach to restocking essentials and left us quite disappointed overall.

    Thank you very much.

First all-inclusive experience. The meals, lounge, and Onsen were all very satisfying. The staff were all courteous, and I will visit again.

Morning Onsen Hours and Haori (Poncho)

Morning Onsen hours starting at 6 AM feel rushed before the 7 AM breakfast; it would be great if it could be available from around 5 AM. The absence of the samue and haori (poncho) that were provided during a previous stay has made it inconvenient to carry a phone.

I will no longer use this service.

Checked in and entered the Room with excitement to see what it was like. The first thing that caught my eye was the fabric at the bottom of the bed, torn and hanging down to the floor—very disappointing. In the bath, there were individuals with tattoos bathing, which made me feel very uncomfortable. I will not be using this place again.

    Delicious cuisine

Wherever you stay, the meals at the Mercure series never disappoint, and this time was no exception—they were delicious. The lively energy of the children was truly heartwarming.

    Favorite Hotel

Thank you as always. This is my third stay this year. It’s my favorite hotel as an accommodation where I can stay with my beloved dog. I am completely satisfied with the pleasant service from the staff, the enjoyable meals, the lounge, and the onsen. It’s the perfect place for a refreshing break on a day off. I look forward to visiting again.

    - The large play area for older children on the second floor has worn-out toys, and the entire hall smells musty. - While the restaurant, bath, and front desk have been renovated, other areas remain as they were before becoming a Grand Mercure Hotel, showing noticeable signs of aging. - Stayed in a 24-tatami mat Japanese-style room, but there was mold in the unit bath which was unpleasant. - The lounge is smaller and more enclosed compared to other Grand Mercure accommodations due to its low ceiling. The most unpleasant part was that seats placed in front of the children's play area had moldy ceilings above them; while drinking alcohol there, water droplets (possibly from an air conditioner) dripped down. - At night, since the lounge opens at 9 PM and dinner starts at 5 PM for some groups who finish eating early, there's a long wait until it opens—please consider opening earlier as children may fall asleep while waiting. - As with Yatsugatake and Nasu locations, it would be nice if chocolate-based snacks were available in the lounge. - It’s disappointing that snacks run out before closing time without being replenished; by the time guests who ate dinner later arrive at the lounge, most snacks are already gone with limited options left. - A major point for improvement is how staff handle closing time at 11 PM in the lounge: they abruptly ask guests to leave by saying "Time's up! We're done!" then turn off drink machines and lights even when people are still seated—one staff member even urged another to "clear everything quickly." Guests requesting ice or water towards closing were ignored; providing a polite notice like "The lounge will close in XX minutes" beforehand would be much more considerate. Overall, both facility aging issues and operational improvements for lounges need attention. Staying here on a weekend felt overpriced at 30,000 yen per person given this quality level.

    We arrived while it ...

We arrived while it was still bright. When we entered the reserved room, although it was stated as a non-smoking facility, the smell of cigarettes was overwhelming and surprising. Since a family member is sensitive to cigarette odors, we contacted the front desk. They promptly responded and moved us to another room, for which we are grateful despite it being during a busy holiday period. As for meals, perhaps due to the timing, there were many young children around, making it difficult to relax fully. In the bath area, some guests entered the tub without rinsing off first, which made us concerned about poor guest manners.

    Kids' Favorite

Stayed in a premium room with an ocean view for three generations. We stayed in the same room with the same members during the same period last year. Revisited because we loved the view of the sea and sky from the room. As it was a long weekend, there were many guests, so waiting for meals and crowded lounges were expected. Despite what seemed like a shortage of staff at the dining venue, operations appeared to have improved compared to last year. The facilities in guest rooms and playrooms showed more wear compared to our previous visit, but both the large public bath and guest rooms were cleaned thoroughly, making our stay comfortable and pleasant. Exploring tide pools in the national park is also a recommended activity here. One disappointment was that the pool's operating period is too short; extending it until at least mid-September during hot weather would allow children to create even more memories. This accommodation's highlight is its child-friendly facilities and services.

Delicious meals! Plenty of play areas for children, making it perfect for families.

Due to the Silver Week holidays, many families, including ours, stayed with three generations or brought children under elementary school age. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. Despite being indecisive when choosing, we ended up eating too much. The desserts were also plentiful and delicious. The room facilities were well-equipped, including stroller rentals, a full set of bottle sterilizers, baby baths, etc., which impressed my daughter as we had our 1-year-old granddaughter with us. Traveling with an infant was made easier as it reduced the amount of luggage needed. Since the accommodation has a large capacity, it might have been slightly noisy for couples visiting alone during family-heavy periods like this time. We stayed in a room with tatami mats where staff kindly came to lay out the futons for us—a service that surprised us pleasantly. We look forward to visiting again during another season!

【Good】 - Complimentary soft drinks are available in the waiting lounge before check-in. - The play area is accessible from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. - The renovated bath is clean and comfortable. - Luxurious and delicious meals for breakfast and dinner, including steamed oysters and sushi. - A pleasant walking trail descends from the outdoor pool to the cape, though it involves many stairs. - The nursing room next to the play area had a water dispenser and microwave. While baby wipes were provided, unfortunately, they were empty. 【Bad】 - Compared to Grand Mercure Yatsugatake or Nasu, the play area in Minamiboso feels small despite looking spacious in photos; suitable for preschoolers only. - On the second floor, a large hall previously used as a banquet room has been repurposed into a play area with ring toss games, balls, and table tennis for older children; however, it smelled musty as if poorly ventilated, prompting an early exit. - Water dispensers are available on each floor but no ice machines; with no convenience stores within walking distance and the shop closed on checkout days, having one would be helpful. - The bath bag provided in the Room is too small to hold anything other than towels. - Towels are not available in changing rooms; guests need to bring them from their Room. - Guests can walk around indoors wearing loungewear or visit areas like the playroom; however, providing samue (Japanese-style loungewear) alongside yukata would be appreciated—only sizes 110cm/130cm were found near reception. - Limited seating at the lounge behind reception often leads to competition for chairs; compared to other Grand Mercure lounges lacking luxury ambiance or furniture quality. - With many families staying—including breastfeeding mothers—offering non-alcoholic beer or cocktails would be considerate. - Mold was visible behind baby baths in public bathing areas.

Recommended for families with preschool children

You can enjoy the kids' play area even before check-in! If you arrive at 2:00 PM, you can relax in the welcome space with soft drinks while waiting. Although room access starts at 3:00 PM, check-in procedures can be completed earlier, and after 3:00 PM, there's a desk for picking up your room key, allowing for almost no wait time. We chose a Japanese-style Room since we had a child sharing existing bedding. However, the bathroom was an older unit type and felt outdated. Twin or other types of rooms might have renovated bathrooms, but please note that the unit bath in Japanese-style Rooms is quite old. In these rooms, you need to lay out your own futon bedding, but I personally appreciated being able to do it at my own timing. The dinner buffet offered a wide variety of dishes and was enjoyable overall. While everything was fairly tasty, there wasn’t any standout dish that left a strong impression. Since dinner started at 5:00 PM for us, we didn’t have to wait much; however, depending on the time slot chosen for dinner service, there may still be some waiting involved. Alcoholic beverages were included in the all-you-can-drink option as well. For Onsen use, guests need to bring towels from their rooms. Shower caps and hair ties were not provided in the Onsen area. It was nice that they offered Snow Skin Essence lotion and emulsion as part of their amenities!

It was our first stay after the rebranding.

Previously, it was in a bit of a poor state before rebranding. Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations when visiting, but the Onsen area and corridors were very clean, and it seemed like significant renovations had been done. There were many children around, and their parents seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. I hope more accommodations catering to families with children will continue to increase in the future. It might have been more convenient if towels were available in the large public bath area. As a middle-aged couple like us, we found it heartwarming to see little kids around; however, younger couples might find it harder to relax completely...!? The lounge was also bustling with children, so perhaps some additional arrangements could improve the experience there. Overall though, it was a very pleasant stay! Thank you for your hospitality!

    The location is excellent!

Great location A Resort Hotel located on a cape in a national park. Enjoy stunning ocean views and a relaxing space surrounded by greenery. You can play on the beach, observe rock formations, and explore nature! Maps for exploration are available at the front desk. Spacious public areas The lobby and large public bath are very spacious and comfortable. Clean and beautifully designed spaces, especially the large public bath and relaxation area after bathing. Simple, stylish, and spotless with Snow Skin Essence amenities provided. The relaxation area offers drinks and cozy couches—very spacious indeed! All-inclusive experience All meals and alcoholic beverages are included for free. At dinner, enjoy local Chiba sake, various shochu types, red/white wine, sparkling wine, spirits, or plum wine. Soft drinks with soda water or ice are also available to mix as you like! Even during breakfast time—you might hear the pop of sparkling wine being opened! The cuisine features an abundance of fresh seafood unique to Boso Peninsula. Family-friendly hotel with well-equipped facilities and amenities for children—perfect for parents seeking convenience! However, it is quite lively due to many families staying here; finding peace might be challenging. Lastly—the night sky is breathtakingly beautiful! Even near a full moon's brightness—the starry sky was mesmerizing enough to watch endlessly—it left me deeply moved! This should definitely be highlighted more! Guestroom amenities are kept simple yet practical—minimal waste which is appreciated since many women bring their own favorites anyway. Overall excellent value for money—a highly satisfying stay!

    Not all-inclusive.

I booked without much thought because it said "all-inclusive," but it turned out to be a Plan without dinner. Is it appropriate to advertise this so prominently on the official site? The women's sauna was apparently out of order, and there was no notice about it being unavailable. The men's sauna was also not very hot, around 80 degrees. The cold bath lacked a chiller and was quite lukewarm. The Room seemed like it was built in the Showa era with outdated facilities. Overly polished photos on the official site can lead to disappointment upon arrival; more realistic images would help reduce this feeling of letdown. The only positive aspect was the staff's service. The front desk team was very kind and helpful. However, perhaps due to understaffing, drinks and food in the lounge were not replenished at all and were almost empty. Additionally, there weren’t enough seats for lounge users, making it feel like a game of musical chairs. Apologies if my comments seem harsh; I hope these suggestions help improve things moving forward!

It was new and very ...

It was new and very clean. The Room was spacious, allowing for a comfortable stay. Although there were many guests, the dining area was not overly crowded as it was well-distributed. The menu seemed to have less seafood than expected. The smoking area was far from the Room, so having one more location might be convenient.

    The meals are delicious.

The public bath and restaurant have been newly renovated and are very clean. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes and were delicious. However, I noticed some cleanliness issues in the Room, such as cobwebs on the ceiling and slime buildup on the faucet in the unit bath. I felt that even a Business Hotel might be cleaner. Additionally, all areas including the lobby, lounge, public bath, and restaurant were dominated by families with children. Even while in my Room, I could constantly hear children shouting and running around from other rooms, upper floors, or hallways. It felt less like a family-friendly Hotel and more like one exclusively for families with children. Given this environment, families with children can likely enjoy their stay without hesitation.

    If staying with your dog...

I don't think I'll ever go back. The Room for pets is terrible, especially at this price. While it's nice that it's a renovated Hotel, the torn sliding doors in the Japanese-style room were left as they were. It felt like they assumed pet owners wouldn't mind if it stayed old and damaged. The pool was also disappointing—too small and unimpressive for a non-budget Hotel. The food was satisfying, and the play area for children was good. These are the only positive aspects of this place.

The 24-tatami mat Japanese-style room was amazing!

Recently, it has been hard to find accommodations with futons in a Japanese-style room, but this was the perfect room for restless and active children. This time, we opted out of dinner and traveled by train, so the lack of meal options at the shop and nearby restaurants was due to our insufficient planning. The breakfast had a wide variety of options that were almost too much to finish, the lounge drinks were very satisfying, and both the pool and Onsen as well as the kids' space were excellent. One disappointing point was that there was some stubborn dirt in the toilet of our room. We cleaned it ourselves! Even so, it offered quality beyond its price!

The video may differ from the actual image...

We stayed at the accommodation during summer vacation as a family of four, including high school and university students. Having watched videos on YouTube, we had high expectations and were looking forward to it. However... Since it was summer vacation, the garden pool was overcrowded, and the lounge was not a place where we could relax comfortably. This much was within our expectations for a family-friendly accommodation during summer vacation, but here are some other points that caught our attention—both good and bad: **Negative Points** 1. The air conditioning in the lounge was poor; it was too hot to relax. The containers and spaces for snacks were too small to handle peak season demand effectively. 2. It would be better if there were separate areas in the lounge for kids; otherwise, it's chaotic. 3. Regarding the room: converting such a small twin room into one suitable for a family of four seems unreasonable. With two additional beds (a sofa bed and an extra bed), there wasn’t even space to sit comfortably without sitting on beds after sweating—it felt quite stressful—and even using the sink area wasn’t convenient. 4. Towels placed in public baths would be helpful since guests may want to shower multiple times due to sweating or enjoy relaxing at public baths during summer; reusing one towel all day feels uncomfortable. 5. The buffet didn’t meet expectations—not terrible but not worth its price. **Positive Points** 1. The live kitchen’s hamburgers were delicious, and we found comfort in how friendly and polite the chef was. 2. The relaxation room after bathing had spacious seating areas with detox water options that tasted great—perfect for unwinding. 3. Despite expecting long waits during peak season check-in/out processes, both went smoothly without any waiting time—a big relief. The children’s play area and table tennis facilities showed significant wear-and-tear; table tennis rackets had peeling rubber parts... Since table tennis seemed popular among guests, introducing time-based reservations with newer equipment—even if charged—might improve guest satisfaction. For families with young children who want their kids freely entertained while staying relaxed themselves—it’s likely an excellent hotel choice! But beyond that demographic group? Not so much... Given its pricing level versus what we experienced overall—we might have set our hopes too high this time around—but unfortunately wouldn’t consider repeating our stay here again…

Thank you for the room exchange.

We booked for four people: two adults and two young elementary school children. Since a simple bed was to be added, we were informed that the originally booked room would be too small, so a different room was prepared for us. The room was on the forest side and had been recently renovated, making it very clean and pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay and truly appreciated the thoughtful arrangements. We look forward to staying again—thank you very much!

The open-air bath and the cuisine were excellent.

Same-day reservation for a Junior Suite. The room was spacious, had a great atmosphere, and offered an amazing ocean view right in front. The open-air bath was clean and spacious, with water temperature just right for a long, relaxing soak. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying in variety and taste for both adults and children. The freshly fried horse mackerel was flavorful with its freshness evident in taste and aroma. The all-you-can-eat boiled oysters were also delightful. As it was all-inclusive, we visited the lounge; however, the space felt slightly cramped, making it hard to relax fully. Challenges included registering on the English page to access high-speed WiFi (membership required) and adjusting the room lighting settings. I would love to visit again!

It was great to relax and unwind.

This was my first stay at an all-inclusive Hotel. The meals and drinks, including alcohol, were very satisfying. I enjoyed being able to freely choose what suited my preferences. The bath was also excellent. The relaxation area was spacious, and the post-bath drinks and summer-themed shaved ice service (though I didn’t try it) were delightful touches. The Room showed some signs of age but had been renovated, so there were no issues. However, since we used a twin Room for three people, while one set of futon bedding was fine, sleeping directly on the mattress without a futon made it uncomfortable—this part was disappointing. The staff members were kind as well. We brought our dog along and would love to stay again!

    About Bathing Etiquette

Since staying at the Mercure Hotel last year, it has become my favorite accommodation. I am satisfied with everything, but there was an unfortunate incident. While I was in the women's bath, a parent and child entered leaving the door open. They went straight to the open-air bath without washing their bodies, which made me very uncomfortable. In shared baths, it is customary to wash your body before entering; however, some people may not be aware of this. I would appreciate it if bathing etiquette could be displayed in the large public bath area.

    Excellent Hospitality Staff

It has been a long time since I encountered a Hotel with such exceptional staff at this price range. The behavior of the staff in every area—reception, cleaning, lockers, pool, and hospitality—was outstanding. Though they didn’t explicitly say it, their actions conveyed a heartfelt "Thank you for coming." It was an incredibly pleasant experience. I express my respect to the management team that nurtured this amazing group of staff.

    Lively

I had stayed here before the rebranding, and this was my first stay since it became a Mercure accommodation. I expected to enjoy drinks leisurely as it was all-inclusive, but the lounge felt like a competition for seats and was different from what I had imagined. Wine is served in paper cups, giving off a casual vibe. Overall, I think it's a friendly hotel for families with small children. However, if your purpose is a relaxing stay or enjoying a "hotel vacation," it might feel too lively.

    Is this a family-friendly Hotel?

When booking the Classic Twin [with Lounge Benefits] (Twin), we mentioned wheelchair use and using a cane inside the room. However, the room assigned on the same day had a bathroom step that was too high for my parent with limited mobility, making it inconvenient despite their ability to walk somewhat. When I made the reservation, I received confirmation that a room closer to the elevator would be prepared, so I assumed everything else would be fine. While it was my fault for not confirming in detail, on the day of our stay, we consulted with staff and were provided with a different room. The staff's response was very satisfactory; however... regarding the Classic Twin Room itself, there was an unpleasant odor. Additionally, in the newly prepared room, mold around the bathtub edge stood out. Since our family cannot use public baths due to circumstances, this was slightly disappointing. At check-in, we were informed that there was a student group reservation and that using public baths might be less convenient than usual due to this situation. It might have been better if such information about group usage had been communicated via email beforehand. Overall, I feel this hotel may pose some challenges for elderly guests. However, for families with children looking for indoor activities even on rainy days, it seems like an ideal hotel. Unfortunately, symptoms of dementia appeared at night due to restlessness during our stay. To avoid causing inconvenience to other guests or staff members at your accommodation facility (Hotel), we opted for an early morning check-out without having breakfast—this left us feeling regretful as well!

    The service is excellent!!

There are areas for improvement: The temperature of the cold bath, the variety of drinks and ice in the all-you-can-drink menu, and the snacks in the lounge. We hope these can be adjusted.
