Notice of Renovation Work for the Semi-Special Twin Room “Otowa”
Regarding the Semi-Special Twin Room “Otowa,” we are not accepting reservations until mid-October due to renovation work.
Thank you for your understanding.
A relaxing 17-room Accommodation in harmony with Awara’s local character, featuring 100% natural hot spring baths with free-flowing source water in every room.
Awara’s nature nurtures Onsen, the four seasons, cuisine, and heartfelt hospitality. At the northernmost tip of Fukui Prefecture, the vast land of Awara is filled with fields of wheat. Day by day, rice and wheat grow richer in color, reflecting the beauty of nature with each season. As the scenery sways in the breeze, it brings a sense of nostalgia. The moment you step into Beniya, the bustle of town fades away. What awaits you are the warm smiles of our proprietress and staff. May this be a place you’ll fondly remember—and want to return to again. Our 17 Rooms blend in harmony with Awara’s climate and character. Every Room features a free-flowing hot spring bath supplied directly from the source. From fresh locally grown vegetables to delicacies from both mountains and sea, enjoy seasonal flavors that delight the eyes as well—served for both dinner and breakfast in your Room. Founded in 1884, Beniya’s spirit of hospitality remains unchanged from Meiji to Reiwa. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.
Thank you very much for your heartfelt hospitality during our three-day, two-night stay. Every dish made with local ingredients was deeply flavorful, and the free-flowing natural hot spring water was so soothing it felt as if both body and mind were gently unwinding—my spouse and I were truly refreshed. On the second day, we enjoyed a full round at a golf club near the Accommodation. Although it was extremely hot, the Onsen we had upon returning eased our fatigue, and once again we were reminded of how wonderful BeniyA’s hot spring water is.Also, whenever we encountered your warm smiles and greetings—especially from the attendant in charge of us—we felt at ease. Even a brief word when passing in the hallway showed such thoughtfulness, and we are sincerely grateful that we could spend our entire stay so comfortably. In addition, hearing from the proprietress about the kitchen knives left a strong impression on us—particularly as it came just after seeing news about a female figure skater receiving Japan’s People’s Honour Award. On our way to the large public bath, we caught a glimpse of the kitchen area and felt anew that these knives support your delicious cuisine every day. This trip became a cherished memory for us as a couple. We would love to visit again in another season—and next time, we hope to enjoy winter crab delicacies.
We stayed here to celebrate my 60th birthday. From the moment we arrived, many staff members warmly welcomed us, and I truly appreciated it. Fresh flowers were beautifully arranged throughout the property, and the Room was spacious and very clean. The meals were excellent, and we enjoyed dishes we don’t usually get to have. At dessert time, they brought a red happi coat for my 60th birthday celebration and surprised me with an elaborate dessert topped with sparklers—it made me very happy. Thank you very much. I would love to visit again during crab season as well.

Exterior
Supported by many warm messages, “Beniya” resumed operations in the summer of 2021. Founded in 1884, Beniya previously ran a beni (rouge) powder wholesale business in Mikuni. Over its 137-year history, Beniya has moved with the times and has also been known as an “artists’ Accommodation,” welcoming renowned writers and figures from the entertainment world for many years. In 1951, Beniya became the first government-registered international tourist Ryokan in the Hokuriku region, and it has also hosted Their Majesties the Emperor Emeritus and Empress Emerita during their visit to Fukui. In 1984, Awara Onsen marked its 100th anniversary, and the following year Beniya celebrated its own centennial. In the summer of 2021, Beniya’s unchanged spirit of hospitality continues from Meiji through Reiwa. Dinner and breakfast can be enjoyed in your Room. We incorporate many local ingredients for our cuisine as well as furnishings from Fukui and Awara throughout the property. Please enjoy our attention to detail in every aspect of your stay.

Sample Dishes
Savor the bounty of the mountains and sea of Echizen and Wakasa, nurtured by abundant nature. Each season brings its own peak ingredients, and our head chef’s carefully crafted kaiseki cuisine brings out the very best in every element. From November to March, you can enjoy winter’s delicacy—Echizen crab—as part of our kaiseki menu.

In Awara Onsen, each Accommodation has its own private hot spring source, and the water quality varies from one to another. Beniya features a chloride-spring Onsen, which is said to help with sensitivity to cold, muscle pain, and fatigue recovery. Please relax and enjoy your stay.

Room Example
All Rooms feature a private semi-open-air bath with free-flowing natural hot spring water. From the guest Rooms arranged around the garden, you can relax and enjoy the beautifully maintained seasonal scenery at your leisure. Each Room’s dining room has direct access without passing through the bedroom, and in every Room—whether futon or bed style—meals can be enjoyed at a table and chairs.

A Few Highlights of Fukui & Awara
Many of our in-house furnishings and amenities are sourced locally from Fukui Prefecture. One of the concepts introduced after reopening is “territorio.” Meaning “region,” this word encompasses not only natural conditions such as land, soil, and water, but also what people cultivate through agriculture and fishing, as well as the area’s history, traditions, and culture—everything that exists around Beniya. It is one of Beniya’s core values: to continue moving forward while cherishing each connection we make.

Regarding the Semi-Special Twin Room “Otowa,” we are not accepting reservations until mid-October due to renovation work.
Thank you for your understanding.

This year as well, Beniya has been selected as a 1 Michelin Key Accommodation in the “Michelin Key,” where Michelin Japan evaluates outstanding Hotels and Ryokan across Japan with a three-key rating system.
With your continued warm support, we have moved forward since our renewal reopening.
We will continue striving to be by your side for life’s special moments, and to become an Accommodation loved across generations.
As always—now and in the future.
We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.
