    Hotel with a Pool

    This hotel has a pool, which makes it a good option for families with children. We chose the buffet-style meals, but the food didn’t really suit our tastes, including our child’s, so it was a bit difficult. I hope the quality can be improved.

    Your First Visit to Nanki-Shirahama

    I’d been wanting to visit Nanki-Shirahama for a long time. I stayed in Osaka the night before and made a Reservation for the Limited Express Kuroshio. I’d called ahead and was told the pool and Onsen could be used from 2:00 p.m., even before check-in, so we headed there. It was very lively, with many families with small children. It was my first time in a deep open-air bath where you can stand, and walking around felt like water-walking in a pool. The building is old, but the view from the Room was amazing. Since it’s fan-shaped, I think every Room probably has an ocean view. I got great photos of Hotel Kawakyu (both in the evening and in the morning). Dinner was a two-seating buffet; we made a Reservation for 5:00 p.m., but there was already a line before it opened. It was packed, and it was tough to line up at the buffet while holding a baby or to go get food without bumping into elementary school kids running around. I kept worrying someone might get splashed with hot soup if we collided. We enjoyed sushi, salt-grilled ayu, abalone, and more. For breakfast, the freshly made onigiri (with salmon that I think was grilled on the spot) were delicious—much better for easing congestion than having everyone serve themselves rice. Overall we were satisfied, but one thing: I wish they would add more Shuttle Service buses timed to match the limited express train schedule. That’s probably why most guests are families arriving by car.

    I really enjoyed my stay—keep it up!

    We stayed as two families with our daughter and son-in-law, and our grandchild enjoyed everything to the point of wearing us out— the garden pool, indoor pool, Onsen, night pool, and table tennis. The illuminations were also wonderful and beautifully done. Many of the staff were from overseas; perhaps there are differences in motivation, as some seemed hesitant while others quickly stepped in to help with a family photo. I hope everyone will continue to do their best with attentive awareness and warm smiles. The building is old, but the indoor cleaning was excellent and very hygienic; the sliding glass door to the balcony was polished so well we almost forgot it was there. The meals felt like a mini version of Hotel Kawakyu—everything was delicious—but entry and waiting at the live kitchen took time. There were still items we wanted to try, but we ran out of time, and dining felt rushed due to staff focusing on turning over for the next seating. With a few ideas and improvements, I believe it could be even better.

    My three-year-old grandchild’s birthday

    We requested a birthday cake for our three-year-old grandchild at dinner. Since it was a buffet, it was difficult to coordinate the timing for all seven of us to be seated, and the staff were incredibly helpful. Two female foreign staff members kindly sang “Happy Birthday” and took lots of photos for us. Our whole family was truly moved. Thank you very much. We also really enjoyed the pool. Best of all, we could use the Onsen towels at the pool as well, and being able to spin-dry our swimsuits in a simple dehydrator was a huge help. The view from our Room was amazing too. Our three-year-old grandchild even cried after we got home, saying they didn’t want to go back home, so I think they had an amazing time. We would love to visit again in summer. Thank you very much.

    We were extremely satisfied with this Hotel!

    We stayed here on a family trip with children. From the moment we arrived by car, the staff welcomed us with warm smiles, and their service was excellent. We stayed from Friday, and it was very lively. The pool our child had been looking forward to was connected to the baths, making it easy to get around. Towels were provided at both the pool and the baths, which was a huge help. The Hotel buffet was crowded as well, but there was a great variety of dishes. Our family members all have different food preferences, but everyone was very satisfied. Many items—such as sushi, sashimi, and grilled fish—were plated for you individually, so we felt that the sectioned buffet plates were a bit awkward to use. At night there were illuminated displays too, which delighted our child. Thoughtful touches throughout the Hotel made our stay very comfortable. When we were leaving, our 6-year-old daughter even tried to find the male staff member who had greeted us so she could say goodbye (sadly she couldn’t!). It’s close to Shirarahama Beach, Adventure World, and Toretore Market as well—this is a Hotel we’d like to use again on our next trip to Wakayama. Thank you!

    Although it is a non-smoking room, it smelled of cigarette smoke.

    Even though I requested a non-smoking Room, it smelled of cigarettes as soon as I entered. The meals and bath were good, which made it very disappointing. For a non-smoker, it was truly unbearable.

    The welcome drink of plum wine was a delightful touch!

    We stayed here for my husband’s birthday. The welcome drinks—plum juice and plum liqueur—helped us unwind after our trip! After that, during the foot massage, we were told that toxins would be released easily today and to drink plenty of water. In hindsight, it might have been better to go easy on alcohol with dinner. Both the Onsen and the meals were buffet-style, with a wide variety of options, and the sweetfish was especially delicious. Thank you very much.

    Our Relaxing Retreat

    I stay here regularly. My sister has difficulty walking, and she really likes the open-air bath that can be used while standing. The meals are varied and delicious. The garden illuminations are charming and change with the seasons, which we always look forward to. We have stayed here many times.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    We stayed over the weekend. The Room is a bit dated, but it was well maintained and felt clean. The Onsen and sauna were excellent. One thing: the open-air bath and cold bath have no roof at all, so on Sunday morning when it was raining, we couldn’t relax on the bench after the sauna, which was disappointing. It would be nice if there were a roof over the bench. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. At checkout, the payment line was unusually crowded. I think it would be fine to pay the Hot Spring Tax in advance.

    Second Visit

    I stayed here for the first time in about five years. I was amazed at how good the buffet was last time, and it was delicious again this time. We had a 2-year-old with us, and they enjoyed running around at the illumination venue. Our Room overlooked Tanabe Bay rather than Shirarahama Beach, but the view was wonderful. The large public bath was quite a walk away, and since I had hurt my foot, it was a bit tough.

    We were extremely satisfied with our trip.

    We stayed with two elementary school boys. The Bay Suite Room was as spacious as two Rooms combined, so the four of us could relax comfortably with plenty of space. With an Onsen and an indoor pool, and a late checkout at 11:00, we were able to enjoy both the pool and the Onsen after dinner on arrival day and again after breakfast on departure day. Since the pool and the Onsen share the same changing room, it was very convenient to go straight from the pool into the Onsen. As for meals, dinner left a particularly great impression. There was a wide variety of options, and we also enjoyed dishes unique to the Wakayama area. Breakfast was honestly neither especially good nor bad, but since we had eaten plenty the day before, it wasn’t an issue. The kids are already saying they want to come back again. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    It was a bit lively ...

    It was a bit lively because Yomiuri TV was filming that day, but as always, the food was delicious and we were able to relax and enjoy the Onsen. The buffet is nice too, but the meals at “Kamishima” are also excellent, so I think they could promote this more. We’ll probably choose this again next time.\nI also feel grateful for the small souvenir we received as a participation gift from the filming. We were already happy to have gained another memorable moment—thank you.

    It was very good, but the noise echoed.

    The service and the view from the Room are excellent, and I stay here every time. However, noise from the floor above—doors closing and footsteps—carries quite a lot. This time, voices from the next Room continued until 2:00 a.m., and I couldn’t sleep. If it’s noisy again on my next stay, I may consider switching Hotels. It would also be helpful to have grab bars in the Room toilet. The staff service and the view are truly wonderful.

    First Stay

    We had always stayed at a particular place before, but this was our first time staying here. The Hotel Room was excellent, the food was delicious, and our children were very happy with the pool and bath as well—it's a Hotel we’d love to visit again. We’re also hoping to come back for a Multiple Night Stay during the Obon holidays.

    We were able to relax and take it easy.

    A stay to celebrate my birthday. Thank you for the lovely small gift and the Room upgrade. The view from the 9th floor was great, and the Room was very quiet and comfortable. The room number sign on the doorknob and the Room key had a wonderfully retro feel. Meals were buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner, and everything was delicious. Especially the breakfast rice balls... A lovely staff member made them for us, and they were a tasty, easy-to-eat smaller size. The bath was also great—the standing open-air bath was unusual, and I could relax for a long time. I stayed here 27 years ago as well... It brought back memories, so I took photos in the same spot. Both the Room and garden were beautifully maintained, and all of the staff were pleasant to deal with, making it a wonderful anniversary.

    The meals were excellent.

    We stayed in a Standard Twin. The Hotel itself feels a bit old overall, but the Room was well cleaned and comfortable. The Room has a balcony and terrace windows, and the glass was polished perfectly with not a single smudge. Thanks to that, we were able to enjoy both the sunset and the morning view. The bathroom has a separate washing area, and the toilet is also separate—very practical. If I had to make one request, I’d like the hair dryer to be replaced with a newer one. Also, I didn’t check whether rentals were available, but the pillow was too soft and low for me. There was also a buckwheat-husk pillow in the closet, but that one was too firm. It would be nice if guests could choose from several types. The Onsen was easy to use thanks to an outdoor standing bath, and the water felt great on the skin. I bathed three times. The food was truly excellent—the tuna was outstanding. Sushi, grilled turban shell in its shell, abalone, tempura, pasta finished on the spot—everything was delicious and very satisfying. There were also udon noodles with an impressively rich dashi broth—great for someone from Kansai. This trip started with us saying as a couple, “We want to go to an Onsen!” and we decided at short notice just the day before—but both the Onsen and meals exceeded our expectations and made it a wonderful memory. We will definitely stay again. Thank you very much.

    Our family of three had a wonderful time!

    Overall, it was great! Excellent value for money. The buffet was very delicious, and even during Golden Week the crowds were well managed. It was a fun and comfortable Hotel overall!

    The positive reviews are a mystery.

    The front desk staff were helpful, but the dining area and its staff were so disappointing that it made me never want to return. There were no staff at the pool and it felt completely unmanaged; the air pump was broken as well, so we couldn’t use the inflatable ring we brought.

    Delicious meals!

    The food was excellent! The French toast in the morning was amazing, and I was also impressed by the cute drawings on the mini pancakes. I didn’t have high expectations for the buffet, but overall I was very satisfied—except for the grilled meat, which was so tough I couldn’t eat it. After checkout, I stopped by the lobby café for tea, and the potato mochi was incredibly delicious. I’d love to have it again when I come back! I was also truly impressed by how attentive all of the Hotel staff were. I’ll definitely stay again.

    The Best Accommodation

    Even the sauna clock…

    I keep coming back because it’s my favorite Hotel! This time, it was really disappointing that even the sauna clock was broken. Still, I’m sure I’ll visit again. The food was very delicious, and hearing “welcome back” at the front desk was a lovely touch.

    It simply feels great.

    We stayed as a couple with two children from Osaka (ages 5 and 3). Thank you for a wonderful trip. The pool is connected to the Onsen, which made getting around with small children really easy. The buffet seems popular, but all of the Japanese restaurants were also excellent and well worth visiting. The staff were consistently kind and attentive—this was the best part of all. We had a great spring adventure with our children. Highly recommended for a Shirahama trip.

    A Hotel That Exceeds Expectations

    The Reviews were very positive, so I made a Reservation with dinner and breakfast for one night! Hotel check-in was in person, and the staff were warm and welcoming. They also upgraded us to a spacious corner Room, so we had a very comfortable stay. Buffets are often hit-or-miss, but at this Hotel the dinner buffet was excellent, with freshly fried tempura and nigiri sushi. The breakfast buffet may be the best I’ve had at any Hotel—I ate way too much. I’d love to come again.

    It was very good.

    This is my third stay. The Facility, Onsen, staff service, and room cleanliness were all excellent, and I was very satisfied. Both the breakfast and dinner buffets were great—especially the beef and tempura at dinner, which were truly delicious. This is a highly recommended Hotel. If I have the chance, I would definitely like to stay again and will gladly recommend it to friends.

    This is a very good Hotel.

    This is a Hotel I really love, and I keep coming back. Recently, I stayed with my first grandchild. They were very kind to our baby, and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, and we were very satisfied. The staff were also wonderful. We will visit again in summer.

    We were very satisfied with the views from the Onsen and the Room!

    We stayed here for my husband’s medical recuperation and rehabilitation. We arrived at Shirahama Station from Shin-Osaka on the JR Limited Express Kuroshio, and since we had plenty of time, we didn’t use the Hotel shuttle bus. Instead, we stopped by Toretore Market on a local bus to look for souvenirs before heading to the Hotel. After checking in, we went straight to the Onsen downstairs (the Hotel is on a hill). We soaked in the open-air bath with a depth of 120 cm and relaxed from our journey while enjoying the magnificent ocean view. We had dinner early at 17:30. It was a Japanese, Western, and Chinese buffet, but we would have been even more satisfied if there had been a wider selection of fruit and more variety overall.

    This was my first stay, and I was fully satisfied with the Facility, meals, and price. If I had to mention any issues, it would be that the room key is not a card type and there is no sheltered area at the open-air bath for rainy weather.

    This was our fifth stay at Koganoi, and it was wonderful. The Room was clean, spacious, and had a great view, and the food was also very delicious. The Onsen, illuminations, and staff were all excellent. We will stay again.
