    Simply amazing

    We stayed for a 2-night multiple night stay in a standard room on the second floor with breakfast and dinner included. The meals were exceptional, showcasing the chef's meticulous selection of ingredients, presentation, and attention to detail in tableware. The staff's communication and dedication to hospitality left us deeply impressed. The room and facility design harmoniously combined the warmth of wood with nature, reflecting a well-thought-out concept throughout. Conveniently located on Izumo Taisha Shinmon Street, it is an ideal spot for visiting the shrine. It was an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    I truly felt glad to have stayed at this accommodation.

    If you are unsure about staying at an accommodation far from home, I can confidently say this was an exceptional place to stay. Located within walking distance of Izumo Taisha and along Shinmon Street, Auberge Kamidarakurai offers extraordinary dining experiences that are truly out of this world. Of course, the rooms and open-air baths were also fantastic, allowing us to enjoy multiple relaxing soaks. The staff provided excellent service with just the right balance of attentiveness, making it a trip where we genuinely felt glad to have come. We were especially touched by the chef's greeting after dinner despite their busy schedule. This is an accommodation we will definitely visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    The exterior of the accommodation, crafted with beautiful wood, is evident from the photos, but the stunning landscaping invites you inside. Every detail, from flooring and furniture to welcome drinks, cuisine, tableware, and amenities, reflects thoughtful design while exuding understated elegance. It was impressive to see the staff taking their time during meal service to connect with each guest individually. The more you learn about the accommodation through conversations, the deeper your interest grows. I wanted to ask about the origin of the embroidered mark on items like towels but forgot to inquire. When visiting Kitajima Kokuzo Hall and a large zelkova tree nearby, we found ourselves alone in a mystical place that had been recommended to us.

    A Wonderful Stay Experience

    This accommodation is located in an exceptional location on the approach to Izumo Taisha. The guest rooms and baths are wonderful, but above all, the dinners and breakfasts, truly worthy of the name "auberge," were all delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. The staff were all kind, and their hospitality was unparalleled—such as promptly printing out information about a liquor store when we asked about a particular sake during our meal. Although Izumo is far from where I live and I don't have many opportunities to visit, this is definitely an accommodation I would love to stay at again when revisiting Izumo.

    Two Days of Relaxation and Rejuvenation in Izumo

    I stayed in the Moegi Room this time. Amidst the fatigue from work, I was able to visit Izumo due to the route, and it was truly healing. The meals were all carefully prepared, with appetizers on both days leaving a particularly strong impression. The asparagus, shijimi clam soup, sashimi sauce, and the combination of lemon and salt showcased thoughtful details. The dishes matched perfectly with the food, making it visually enjoyable as well. The portions were just right, leaving a pleasant sense of satisfaction at about 80% full after finishing each meal—making me feel truly happy. The staff were kind and accommodating; I also appreciate your patience during check-in. Thank you for such a wonderful time—I would love to visit again!

    This is what an auberge is all about.

    A meticulously designed accommodation with a strong sense of aesthetics. The establishment originates from a rental costume shop, and being near Izumo Taisha Shrine, it exudes refined Japanese sensibilities in every detail. The staff are friendly yet provide attentive and kind service. There are many highlights within the building itself; it would have been nice to receive more explanations while exploring them. The decorative leather string patterns on the restaurant windows were stunning, and when I mentioned this to the staff, they said it was by Louis Vuitton. Both breakfast and dinner were exceptional, with beautifully presented dishes! The meals made full use of local ingredients with creative touches throughout. It made me want to buy or order vegetables, seafood, and meat from this region to take home. Not only was the food delicious, but it also sparked an interest in the local food culture and ingredients as a whole—truly embodying what an auberge should be! We stayed for two nights, and they thoughtfully adjusted the menu for multiple night stays. About the room: Spacious and clean with a tatami area that helps you relax completely. While having an open-air bath is great, it might be challenging during colder seasons. However, there’s also an indoor shower space—not very large but equipped with a rain shower that warms you up nicely. That said, I found the slim design of the shower too stylish for my liking—it was hard to hold (chuckle). The hairdryer also felt overly stylish and slightly inconvenient; I couldn’t help wishing for something like Panasonic at this price range instead! But perhaps this is all part of their meticulous aesthetic sense (laughs). Even the sweets served as tea accompaniments were delightful—the soy sauce-flavored cashew nuts were so good that I ended up ordering them later. An accommodation that makes you fall in love with Izumo—I can’t wait to visit again!

    Stayed to celebrate ...

    Stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary. There is no large public bath, but every room features a semi-open-air Onsen bath. The water temperature is automatically controlled and set at 42°C, but adjustments can be made upon request at the front desk if needed. All drinks in the refrigerator are complimentary, including bottled beer, amazake, ginger ale, cider, sparkling water, and mineral water. Dinner starts simultaneously for all guests at 6:30 PM. No dress code is required; you can even dine in the provided samue from your room. The chef greets each guest before dinner begins. The dishes highlight the natural flavors of vegetables with gentle seasoning that brings out their essence. Accommodation Fee is on the higher side; however, drink prices were reasonable—around 1,000 yen per glass of sake. The staff serving meals were exceptional! When discussing a particular sake we ordered, they kindly printed out a map and photo of a store where it was sold (we visited later and found an excellent selection). That evening featured an additional dish not on the menu: steamed tilefish with Shaoxing wine—a tender and flavorful surprise that left us deeply impressed! The chef also greeted us again after dinner to conclude our meal experience. Dessert was served at the bar along with cocktails—an exclusive experience as no other guests opted for this service that night! While we enjoyed delicious cocktails tailored to preferences (e.g., strawberry-based for my wife), one minor concern was that the bartender frequently sniffled without wearing a mask despite handling food and drinks. Breakfast was equally delightful—we especially loved the freshly cooked rice in an earthen pot and had seconds! After checking out, we walked to Izumo Taisha Shrine nearby while leaving our car parked until 2:00 PM as permitted by staff—a thoughtful convenience allowing us time to explore leisurely!

    The meals are excellent!

    I stayed at this accommodation based on a friend's recommendation about the delicious meals, and it exceeded my expectations! The food was, of course, excellent, but the staff who explained everything were truly wonderful. They provided flexible and personalized responses in their own words rather than just following a manual, and they kindly engaged with my elderly mother's chatter with a smile. It was truly a fantastic hotel. I can confidently recommend it to my friends as well. I would love to visit again!

    An Accommodation That Delights Both Mind and Body

    This was my second visit, and once again, it was incredibly relaxing! The beautiful exterior of the Hotel immediately filled me with excitement. The cuisine, the Room's Onsen, and the warm smiles of the charming staff all made me realize once more that this is my number one Hotel. In particular, the dishes prepared by Executive Chef Masaki and his wonderful team were not only visually stunning but also highlighted the quality of each ingredient. Their love for food was evident in every bite—so delicious that it filled not just my stomach but also my heart and soul with happiness. During dinner, a staff member learned through our conversation that it was my birthday that day. They surprised me with a celebratory dessert plate on short notice, which deeply moved me. Thank you so much! I will definitely visit again!

    There are no flaws to be found.

    First stay at this accommodation. There were no issues or unpleasant feelings at all. The only downside might be the distance from Izumo City Station; it could feel a bit inconvenient without a car. Both the meals and the staff's service were excellent. I had a luxurious time here. If I have the chance, I would definitely love to stay again.

    A wonderful accommodation you'd want to revisit.

    The hospitality at this accommodation was exceptional in every way. The wooden latticework, which won a design award, was artistically incorporated into the building's exterior, interior, and guest rooms. The semi-open-air bath with a constant comfortable temperature provided a truly luxurious experience. The highlight, however, was the dining experience. Local ingredients from Shimane Prefecture were transformed by the chef into exquisite and visually stunning dishes that left us amazed. These artistic meals were made even more delightful through casual conversations with knowledgeable staff about Shimane and the thoughtful care of the chef. During our stay in April, we enjoyed an abundance of fresh spring vegetables, but it has inspired us to visit again during another season to experience something new. Highly recommended accommodation!

    A blissful and relaxing time was enjoyed.

    During dinner, I asked a staff member about the meaning behind the name "Kamunagara." The young woman, who had been friendly and warm until then, straightened her posture slightly with a mix of pride and nervousness as she explained. It made perfect sense once I heard it. This philosophy is at the core of this auberge. Truly! The dishes crafted by the young head chef are delightful works of art—visually stunning and bursting with flavor. We enjoyed plenty of seasonal ingredients. Most of the staff are young, but they all work sincerely to ensure guests feel comfortable. Thank you very much. The head spa at the salon was also incredibly relaxing. Even my husband, who has thinning hair, said it relieved his fatigue. Later on, we realized there was an oil massage option too—what a shame we missed it! One star was deducted because we found it difficult to get used to the Room key system and thought that while the amenities were lovely, having them in small packets would have been more convenient.

    A Satisfying Auberge

    Thank you for your hospitality during my recent stay. I truly enjoyed the exquisite and delicious cuisine, the warm hospitality of the staff, and the onsen in the room, making it a wonderful experience. I wanted to address something I mentioned during my stay, so I decided to write this review as a token of gratitude. I initially suggested that the geta sandals in the room were difficult to walk in and might need replacing. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed that they are well-crafted with rubber soles and an elevated arch support design. It turns out that they are excellent in quality; it was simply a matter of size not fitting me properly. Perhaps providing three sizes—small, medium, and large—could resolve this issue? (If I'm not mistaken, could these be geta from Hita in Kyushu?) Please forgive me for pointing out such minor details. I would love to visit again if given another opportunity!

    Delicious Cuisine! A stylish and new Hotel near Izumo Taisha.

    I stayed at a new hotel with highly-rated cuisine and an onsen. The service was excellent even before check-in, and both the exterior and the room were stylish. The restaurant featured high-end custom sunshades, and the spiral staircase was as beautiful as an art museum. The shampoo, conditioner, and hairdryer had pleasant scents, and my partner mentioned that his hair felt smooth. The first dish served was decorated with cherry blossoms, evoking a sense of spring. It felt like enjoying night cherry blossom viewing while dining. The sashimi of the day was conger eel—rare but delicious. A particularly exciting experience was shabu-shabu using broth made from large clams; it was innovative and delightful. Every dish offered such enjoyment until the very end. Dessert could be enjoyed at the bar, where I had a White Lady cocktail. There were various Yamazaki whiskies available, which I found intriguing but couldn’t try due to being too full—a small regret. Everything about this stay was wonderful except for a few points: there were no bathrobes or sleeping yukata in the room, and it wasn’t a natural free-flowing hot spring source (kakenagashi). While there were samue provided for sleeping attire, they were slightly thick and uncomfortable for sleeping. Breakfast included fatty Saikyo-yaki fish that tasted exceptional. Various small side dishes complemented rice perfectly—I found myself reaching for sake to pair with them! Dessert came in picnic-style baskets adorned with cherry blossoms or plum flowers? It lifted my spirits immensely! Unique treats like matcha cake and karinto manju stood out so much that I bought some to take home. It’s definitely a ryokan I’d love to stay at again!

    It was a very lovely accommodation.

    The exterior and interior of the accommodation were both sophisticated, making me excited from the moment I checked in. As for the meals, both dinner and breakfast were not only delicious but also visually stunning. Since it was cherry blossom season, the floral presentation was also lovely. Additionally, thanks to the smiles of all the staff members, we had a very enjoyable dining experience. Although I have visited Izumo many times before, I always considered it a day-trip destination and stayed overnight for the first time this time. Having discovered such a wonderful accommodation on this occasion, I would love to stay again in the future—next time in a suite room that I couldn't reserve this time—to relax even more.     A Culinary Accommodation Overflowing with Youthful Energy

    We apologize for the significant delay in our arrival, but we were warmly guided to check-in. First, the positive points that make us want to revisit... Opened in 2023, the entire accommodation felt new and clean. The use of natural materials and the scent of wood were delightful. The location was perfect, being very close to Izumo Taisha Shrine. With a two-night stay, we could have enjoyed an early morning visit as well. The meals were supervised by a Kyoto kaiseki chef and featured delicate and carefully prepared Kyoto cuisine—truly exquisite. The onsen in the room had excellent water quality. Although it was heated, as we were informed, the temperature was just right. During breakfast, the staff member who attended to us provided professional service with perfect timing, enthusiasm, and consideration—making for an excellent start to our day. Now for some points we'd like you to consider improving... There were moments when we felt things seemed "young." While having a young building is entirely advantageous... having "young" service can sometimes be a disadvantage depending on the situation. If staff could better sense and adapt to guests' preferences or atmosphere at times, it would elevate this accommodation even further. For example... during dinner, we were asked several times if we'd like photos taken (we're not particularly interested in Instagram-worthy shots...). Since it's not private dining space but shared with other tables experiencing similar interactions accompanied by laughter—it slightly detracted from enjoying what was otherwise delicious food. While youthful enthusiasm is commendable and there’s no rudeness involved—it would be appreciated if more attention could be paid towards gauging guest preferences or “temperature.” Phone communication also felt slightly too casual at times (though perhaps this reflects my age). Some plates used during meals looked beautiful but made eating somewhat challenging on occasion! Room facilities/equipment also seemed overly modernized: doors difficult-to-unlock keys; hairdryers? humidifiers? aromatherapy devices?? We’d prefer standard high-quality items instead here honestly… While experiencing something extraordinary adds charm while traveling—the overly unconventional approach regarding certain aspects such as equipment/facilities might lead toward inconvenience rather than enhancement overall experience-wise… Lastly—from my particular room—I couldn’t see outside through any windows which gave off slight feelings confinement… Above all else though traveling means exploring unfamiliar cityscapes/views ideally visible directly within rooms themselves—isn’t possible unfortunately where stayed unless specific types exist elsewhere perhaps?

    I had heard that a chef from Kyoto Kichiju was going to the Hotel in front of Izumo Taisha, and I really wanted to visit. The food was delicious and satisfying, but more than that, the hospitality of the Hotel staff was outstanding. I had a very pleasant stay. The trip, which also celebrated a birthday, turned out to be perfect, and I am truly grateful. Thank you very much!

    It was a very comfortable stay. The food was especially wonderful, with beautiful presentation and a collaboration of fresh local ingredients. Everything was delicious, and both dinner and breakfast were highly satisfying. The entrance opened at 5 AM, allowing for an early morning visit to Izumo Taisha. It was more magical than expected with no one around. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again.

    Great! I want to visit again.

    This was my first trip to Izumo, and I’m glad I chose "Wa Auberge Kamigakurai." The Facility is new, clean, and comfortable, and each dish prepared by the chef trained in Kyoto using carefully selected ingredients was absolutely delicious. Moreover, the hospitality of all the staff was exceptional, providing warm and heartfelt service. The flight from Haneda Airport to Izumo Enmusubi Airport takes only 1.5 hours, making it an easily accessible destination.

    This property is as wonderful as the reviews say. Honestly, I almost don't want anyone else to know about it. The meals were truly delicious, and not only that, each dish was prepared with great care. The service was also truly exceptional; both the older and younger staff members were amazing... words cannot describe it. Even though the head chef is young, he was outstanding, and if possible, I would have liked to talk a bit more or express my gratitude at the end. The room was sophisticated and wonderful as well. Just one point: I would have preferred if the body soap was in a pump type (sweat). It was quite difficult to use body soap while showering (having to open a cap). It's not a big deal but that's the only thing that caught my attention. I definitely want to repeat my stay here again! Visiting Izumo Taisha for the first time in my life made for a very good memory. Thank you!

    I made the reservation with the hope that it would be within walking distance to Izumo Taisha and have delicious meals. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, with each dish offering excitement and flavors beyond expectations. Not only the chef but also all the staff were attentive, and I truly overate. Although I felt a bit guilty visiting the shrine with a full stomach, the joy of food prevailed. Additionally, they kindly lent us tools for sand collection, providing thoughtful hospitality until the end, making it a place I want to visit again. Thank you very much.

    Satisfaction beyond imagination!

    The Review mentioned that the service was excellent, and I was really looking forward to it, but it exceeded my expectations. The cuisine can be enjoyed with all five senses and has many surprises. Even though it was a cold day with snow falling, the dishes and service made me feel a touch of spring, leaving me satisfied. I would like to visit again in another season. If I had to say something, the Room tended to get dry easily, so I would have appreciated a larger humidifier or body cream.

    A wonderful Japanese-style auberge. The chic and elegant facade facing the approach to Izumo Taisha welcomes you with a charming expression. Wrapped in a gentle, lovely smile, I became very excited about the stay that was about to begin. After warming both body and soul in the Room's Onsen, the dinner exceeded all expectations. The sophisticated dishes were presented on carefully selected unique tableware, each one deliciously captivating all five senses. You can feel that the head chef, who honed his skills at Kyoto's renowned Higashiyama Yoshitoku (Higashiyama Yoshitoku), puts a once-in-a-lifetime spirit into each dish. The seafood from the sea and lakes nurtured by Shimane's rich nature, mountain delicacies, and seasonal ingredients were cherished individually and served with joy. I believe this is a gift born from trustful relationships with local producers. The menu filled with stories was full of exquisite dishes that could only be tasted here in Izumo. The staff's explanations of the dishes were precise and courteous, making them even more enjoyable. Their recommendations for drinks to pair with meals were excellent; it felt like enjoying fine sake together while having various conversations was very fun. As Shimane is known as the birthplace of sake in Japan, we enjoyed many unique delicious sakes that could only be tasted here. At the bar after dinner, we spent quiet time savoring lingering memories of our meal. Breakfast also had an abundant variety of items and was very delicious; it felt like celebrating a special day right from morning. The heartfelt hospitality from all staff members at Kamukura (Kamukura) remains forever in my heart; I sincerely wish to visit again someday soon. Thank you so much for your warm kindness!
