    A Wonderful Time

    A Japanese-style auberge with a designer Hotel feel, conveniently located near Izumo Taisha Shrine. Carefully crafted cuisine to savor at a relaxed pace. Eye-catching tableware. Charming waiters and waitresses. It was truly soothing. Thank you very much.

    This is my second visit!

    Following last year’s stay, I visited Wa Auberge Kagurato-raisan again this year. Last year I came by plane, but this time I rode my motorcycle all the way from Tokyo. It was a long journey, but looking forward to staying at Kagurato-raisan again was one of the highlights of the trip. Once again, I was able to take my time and enjoy the chef’s carefully crafted dishes made with plenty of local vegetables and seafood. Every dish brought out the natural flavors of the ingredients, and it truly felt like a meal you can only experience in Izumo. Not only is the food outstanding, but there is also thoughtful attention to each piece of tableware, making it an experience to enjoy with all five senses. What made me especially happy this time was how thoughtfully they considered my physical condition as well. The staff’s kindness—checking in not only about the meals but also throughout my stay—moved me once again. Even on my second visit, it was an Accommodation that made me think, “I’m so glad I came back.” Warm, welcoming, and truly comfortable. It was a long ride from Tokyo, but once I arrived and spent time at Kagurato-raisan, it felt like all the travel fatigue simply melted away. When I visit Izumo again, I would love to come back here without hesitation. To everyone on staff and to the chef—thank you so much!!

    It was a wonderful Accommodation near Izumo Taisha Shrine.

    For my first visit to Izumo Taisha, I wanted to pray early in the morning, so I looked for an Accommodation near Izumo Taisha with a guest room featuring an open-air bath. The hospitality was outstanding, and everything about this Accommodation was wonderful—the building, the warmth of the wood, the cozy interior atmosphere, and the furnishings. As it is an auberge, the food goes without saying; everything was simply excellent. We were able to relax and unwind at a leisurely pace. Before dinner we went to the bar and enjoyed drinks while looking out over the approach to the shrine. It was also great that there happened to be an open space in the closest parking lot. It was a delicious and enriching dining experience, with great attention paid even to the tableware and cooking utensils. Every dish was truly delicious—especially the shijimi clam miso soup, which my husband praised as the best he has ever had in his life. The staff’s hospitality was exceptional.

    A couples’ trip without the kids.

    It was a wonderful trip. It’s a small Accommodation, but the space is stylish, and it was a Facility that kept us from getting bored even for just one night. My birthday was coming up, and without me asking, they kindly included sweets. The Room isn’t large, but it was clean and I could relax comfortably. The location was also excellent, with views of Izumo Taisha Shrine. The meals were outstanding. This time, I chose Kararako mainly for the food. I’d give it 100 points. The local ingredients were definitely delicious, but if there were an extra element that exceeded expectations even more, it would be 120 points. I’d also be happier if the sake and wine were just a bit more delicious. Overall, I’d rate it 5 out of 5 and would recommend it to friends traveling to Izumo.

    As expected of an auberge.

    We stayed during the Obon holidays. First of all, the food deserves the highest praise. Both the quality and portion sizes were excellent, and the seasoning brought out the best in each ingredient—every dish was genuinely impressive. None of it was something I had never eaten before, but in terms of delicate flavors, presentation, and ingredients, it was outstanding compared with many other places we have dined. You can really sense a discerning eye for ingredients and a strong relationship of trust with producers behind the cuisine. My sincere thanks to the head chef. As for service, we arrived 30 minutes before check-in. Unfortunately, the response felt far too scripted. Also, from a privacy standpoint, the restaurant is fully visible from outside. People walking by look in and you end up making eye contact—it’s unpleasant. In addition, tables are very close together inside the restaurant, making it hard to talk comfortably. Some improvements such as partitions are needed. The TV can only be viewed from the bed. It’s disappointing design-wise—I’m not sure what purpose the raised seating area is meant to serve. That said, the food was so exceptional that it outweighed all of these issues.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    From check-in to check-out, we were completely satisfied! The Room was very clean and stylish. The amenities were luxurious and so well stocked that we could have arrived empty-handed. The in-room bath had a separate shower booth and bathtub, making it comfortable and relaxing with no inconvenience. Above all, the meals and the staff’s hospitality were wonderful. The dishes made with Shimane ingredients were delicious and truly special—something you can only experience here—and it was great that the staff explained the ingredients each time. We also had a celebration during our stay, and their thoughtful attention made us glad we chose this Accommodation. With a convenient location for visiting Izumo Taisha Shrine, it was an excellent experience overall.

    An Accommodation with Memorable Cuisine

    A wonderful Accommodation located diagonally across from Izumo Taisha-mae Station along the approach to Izumo Taisha Shrine. Both the exterior and interior are modern and beautifully designed, yet the thoughtful use of wood creates a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The cuisine is outstanding, using carefully selected high-quality local ingredients and seasoning that brings out their natural flavors. Dinner was truly memorable—from an hassun platter that evoked the coolness of a summer riverside to beef shabu-shabu in a rustic Oribe-style clay pot with rich shijimi clam broth. The refined choice of tableware and elegant presentation enhanced every dish. We also requested a pairing of local sake, which matched the meal perfectly. Breakfast was equally satisfying: local ingredients, excellent seasoning, beautiful dishes, and just the right portion size. In particular, the generous serving of shijimi miso soup in a clay pot was delicious—so soothing after drinks the night before that we couldn’t help having multiple refills. With unforgettable food to match, this is without doubt one of those Accommodations that stays with you long after your visit.

    We were completely satisfied with everything—the Accommodation, the Room, the staff, and the meals. The meals were especially delicious. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again if we have the chance. It was a place that made us want to return again for the first time in a while.

    The Accommodation and the meals were excellent!

    The guest room was very clean, and we were able to relax and fully enjoy the semi-open-air bath. We also made a Reservation for the sake pairing Plan, and they suggested many types of sake that matched our preferences, which made it a wonderful experience. The food was delicious as well—this is an Accommodation we would love to visit again! All of the staff were kind, making this trip truly unforgettable. Thank you very much.

    Your First Trip to Izumo

    On my first trip to Izumo, I booked “Kamito Rakurai” after reading Reviews on IKYU. Not only is it convenient for visiting Izumo Taisha Shrine, but its unbeatable location—right along the shrine approach—was also a major draw. What impressed me most was the warm, hospitality-filled service from the staff. At the front desk, a robot named “Arame” welcomed me kindly, and its adorable presence was truly soothing. The dining exceeded my expectations as well. The chef—praised in Reviews and trained at a Michelin two-star restaurant—created outstanding dishes featuring an abundance of fresh local ingredients. The beautiful presentation delighted the eyes, and with every bite I could taste the quality of each ingredient. It truly was cuisine to enjoy with both sight and palate. I had a memorable, luxurious time and was extremely satisfied. It’s a wonderful Accommodation where I would absolutely love to stay again when I visit Izumo next time.

    Warm Hospitality and Exquisite Cuisine

    We stayed here for a special anniversary. The staff’s hospitality was outstanding, and it was great that every staff member provided the same high level of service. The food was wonderful in both presentation and taste from the appetizers onward—especially the steamed eel, which was exceptional. Not only was the cuisine excellent, but we could also feel the attention to detail in the tableware and dishes. We would love to stay again. The only area for improvement was that the body soap in the Room shower room came in a small amount and was difficult to use; it would be perfect with a fixed dispenser bottle.

    It was the most moving experience I’ve had in years.

    Both breakfast and dinner were outstanding. Everything was carefully prepared, yet the natural flavors of the ingredients still came through—I realized it was because the seasoning wasn’t heavy, and the dashi and spices were used to great effect. I also appreciated the focus on locally sourced ingredients. The presentation and tableware were impeccable; you could feel the attention to detail in every aspect. The sake pairing was also a lot of fun, letting us enjoy small pours of several different local sakes. I stay at Ryokan known for their cuisine several times a year, and this was my most satisfying experience in years. The Room wasn’t overly lavish, but it was clean and stylish, and both the bath and shower booth were comfortable and easy to use. I personally love tableware, so I was delighted that the cups in the Room were Royal Copenhagen. I also loved the pottery served at breakfast; they even told me where it was made, so I was happy to buy a few pieces for home. I’d love to return again in a different season.

    Your first trip to Izumo—an exceptional Accommodation that will make you truly want to come back again!

    I felt a little nervous and unsure before my first visit to Izumo, but the warm hospitality of everyone at Kamitouraku quickly put me at ease. Not only were the Room and meals wonderful, but I was especially moved by how thoughtfully the staff cared for every detail to make our trip truly special. We thoroughly enjoyed all four meals over our two-night stay—everything was delicious. Thank you as well for adjusting the menu for our Multiple Night Stay. The time we spent chatting with you during dessert is still a heartwarming memory. In Izumo, known as a place of matchmaking, I am deeply grateful for the wonderful connection we were able to share with everyone at Kamitouraku. It was so comfortable that we made our next Reservation immediately after our stay—this has become a truly special Accommodation for us. We sincerely look forward to seeing you again soon.

    Everything is perfect.

    Everything was flawless. If I had to mention one thing, I would have liked wasabi soy sauce as well. The creative dishes made for an enjoyable meal, but I also wanted to have wasabi soy sauce. Since we stayed mainly for the Onsen, the in-room Onsen was excellent and there is nothing to complain about. Given the location and that it’s a new Accommodation, guests may come even without much effort, but please keep up the hard work and continue doing your best.

    Right in front of Izumo Taisha Shrine. Safe and worry-free even when going out at night.

    We stayed in a third-floor Room with wooden flooring and an outdoor bath. It was a No Meals Included plan, so we did not have any meals. The location is along the street in front of Izumo Taisha Shrine—so close it’s practically right in front. It’s perfect for visiting the shrine. The parking lot is a little hard to find, but it’s very nearby and they guided us. What really helped was that they accommodated us even when we went out for dinner and returned around 1:00 a.m. Overall, the service was very polite, and we were able to relax with peace of mind. The open-air bath had just the right temperature, but part of it seems open to the outside, so if you don’t like insects, you may want to be a bit cautious. I can’t comment on the meals, but overall I think it’s a great Accommodation.

    We were truly impressed by the exceptional hospitality and outstanding quality of the food.

    We were truly impressed by the chef’s wonderful, creative cuisine, centered on carefully selected local ingredients. We requested slightly smaller portions, and they were just the right amount even for a couple in our 60s. We also appreciated the attention to tableware; the setting created a lovely atmosphere that made dining feel especially enjoyable. Everyone who served us provided excellent hospitality, and it was a real pleasure. As a luxury request, during meals the tables felt quite close to neighboring guests. We were concerned that our conversations could be overheard, and it was also unfortunate to hear nearby conversations as well. We understand there may be physical limitations, but even a simple partition might improve the environment. For the Room bath, we would have liked a bit more space around the tub. We realize this may be difficult to change now, but when trying to relax with our head resting on the edge of the tub, it would bump into the window or wall. Although we have shared these requests, overall we were very satisfied. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation.

    We visited Izumo Taisha for the first time on our wedding anniversary and chose Wano Auberge as our Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff’s attentiveness was outstanding, and every dish was absolutely delicious. They were all so good I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite...!! The Room was spotless down to every detail, and the amenities were plentiful. The toilet paper was so cute that I wanted to buy it (lol). It was a truly memorable stay! When we visit Izumo again, we will definitely return. Thank you very much!

    The Best Day

    This was our second stay as a couple, and just like last time, we were completely satisfied with everything. The Room was very clean, and the food was delicious—we enjoyed every dish.     It’s truly just a sh...

    It’s truly just a short walk from Izumo Taisha, yet the area is very quiet and comfortable from evening to night. Above all, the meals here were outstanding. I’m a picky eater and also have allergies, so I usually struggle with course meals, but they carefully asked about my needs in advance by phone, and on the day they replaced each dish accordingly. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy every dish at both dinner and breakfast. Thank you for your thoughtful attention.

    A Wonderful Auberge

    We visited as a couple. The staff were pleasant from the welcome to the send-off. Since the Accommodation is in town, we gave up on having a view, but everything was clean and well maintained, which made our stay very comfortable. The Onsen was nice and we used it many times; since it is a circulating system it can’t be helped, but if there had been a bit more hot water volume, it might have felt even better. The bed was very comfortable to sleep in, and it was great that pajamas were provided. The number of towels was perfect as well. Meals were Japanese cuisine using local ingredients; everything was thoughtfully prepared, and we enjoyed every dish all the way through dessert. As expected, the clam soup was excellent too. The only thing that bothered us: we ordered sake to go with dinner, but the amount poured into the small glass was extremely little—about 50 ml? It felt disappointing. It was gone in two or three sips; I would have liked at least half a glass. It’s a shame because the food was so good. Although I’ve mentioned this criticism, I think this Accommodation was wonderful overall. If we visit Shimane again, we would like to stay here again.

    Discover the charm of Shimane.

    The meals were exceptionally delicious and made for a truly memorable dining experience. Every dish made with local ingredients was wonderful, and I’m quickly falling in love with the charm of Shimane. Not only was the food outstanding, but this is the first Accommodation where I was genuinely moved by how delicious the white rice was. I was also surprised to hear that they even change the rice grain size between dinner and breakfast. I quite enjoy solo travel, but one common thing is ending up scrolling on my phone during gaps between course dishes. Here, however, the coordination between the dining staff and kitchen was excellent, so everything flowed smoothly from start to finish—making it a smart, delicious, and enjoyable meal. Also, since it’s close to Izumo Taisha Shrine, visiting early in the morning before breakfast felt almost like having it all to myself, which made it even more special. My main purpose was to visit Izumo Taisha Shrine, but thanks to this trip I discovered Kamitouraku-san and experienced Shimane’s cuisine—making it a wonderful journey that deepened my appreciation for Shimane. It’s not an easy distance from Kanto for a casual trip, but I would love to visit at least once a year for another great meal. Thank you very much.

    Everything was great.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. I have stayed at many Ryokan, but the buns and rice crackers provided in the Room were not gluten-free; however, Kararako accommodated this properly. The grilled cutlassfish was also excellent, and I suspected it wasn’t cooked with a typical steam oven—when I asked the head chef as we were leaving, that turned out to be true. The Nita rice was delicious in a way we can’t replicate at home, with a natural sweetness and freshness. Before our stay, I wondered if it might be designed by a famous architect known for extensive use of wood; apparently not. Even so, although it looked like cleaning would be difficult, everything was thoroughly cleaned and well maintained, which made us feel at ease. We also used the hair salon and felt very relaxed. The sound quality of the in-room speaker was great, and when I called later to ask about it, you kindly explained in detail. If I had to mention one thing, it would be the small bubbles on the inside of the glass when I ordered champagne by the glass. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.
