Second stay, following last year.
This was my second stay in the Karaku Room, following last year. The Karaku Room benefits include early check-in at 2:00 PM, late check-out at 12:00 PM, and complimentary drinks in the refrigerator. Since I don’t drink alcohol, I would appreciate a wider selection of soft drinks. I was also disappointed that the mandarin orange juice we had last time has been replaced with apple juice. For dinner this time, we enjoyed a collaboration of kaiseki and sushi. The combination was great—truly the best of both worlds. That said, it might be even better if the sushi were prepared right in front of us. Karaku is highly recommended: everything you need is provided so you can travel light; all staff are welcoming with attentive service at just the right distance; the rooms are spacious and relaxing; there’s a beautiful ocean view right in front of you; and the lounge offerings are excellent. Regarding meal photos, I forgot to take a picture of the second sushi course. As for breakfast, I would be happy if there were a Western-style option as well.

Japanese cuisine
The baths were very pleasant, both in the Room and in the large public bath. However, there was no soup bowl with the Japanese dinner, so it was disappointing that I couldn’t enjoy the dashi that would have showcased the chef’s skills. It was my first time not being served a soup bowl with a Japanese meal. The lounge had a good variety of offerings, which was nice, but I wanted coffee early in the morning and the coffee from the in-Room coffee machine tasted bad. It was the same model we once bought at home and ended up throwing away because it tasted so poor.

The best ever.
I have stayed at many Ryokan and Hotels, and this is the best I have ever experienced. The Facility, hospitality, meals, and Onsen were all outstanding. I never imagined such a wonderful Accommodation could be found in Atami, so close to Tokyo. I don’t think there’s any need to travel far anymore. When I feel like treating myself again, I will be back.

I wish I had booked dinner.
The property is designed so you can fully feel the ocean everywhere, and it made for a truly relaxing day of rest. Breakfast was delicious and just the right amount, and next time I’d definitely like to add dinner. The lounge was also a lot of fun. I’d love to stay again when I want to get away from everyday life.

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.
We stayed to celebrate my wife’s birthday and enjoyed a Japanese dinner. They wrote a “Happy Birthday” message on the dessert, which made my wife very happy. We were able to relax and enjoy the Onsen both in the open-air bath attached to our Room and in the large public bath on the 7th floor. We would like to visit again when we have the chance.

The guest room is spacious and clean.
At dinner, I felt the wait time before dishes were served was a bit too long. The food itself was average (slightly different from my taste), so I would appreciate it if service could be a little smoother—for example, bringing two dishes at a time.

I love the lounge.
My stay was completely satisfying from start to finish. In particular, the two lounges on the 6th and 8th floors, each with its own distinct atmosphere, were wonderful, and as a lounge lover, I truly enjoyed a luxurious time there. The view from my Room was also amazing, and even though the weather wasn’t great, it was still very relaxing—but next time I’d love to enjoy the spectacular scenery on a clear day. The foot bath, the open-air bath in the guest Room, and the open-air bath at the large public bath were all very comfortable, and every meal was delicious—I was thoroughly satisfied. Thanks to the warm and attentive hospitality of all the staff, I felt comfortable throughout my stay. If I could mention one thing: being able to complete check-in procedures in the Room would have made it possible to start relaxing even more from the moment of arrival. The scenery, Onsen, dining, and hospitality all exceeded my expectations—this was a wonderful Accommodation that I definitely want to visit again. Thank you very much.

My first stay at Aiju was an amazing experience.
How many times have we stayed here now? We usually have dinner at Mutsuki, but this time, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, we made a Reservation at Aiju. Each dish served one by one at the counter was truly delicious and felt very luxurious. We usually drink beer or champagne, but this time we thoroughly enjoyed sake. We asked for smaller pieces for the final sushi course, but overall the meal was generous in volume and we were completely satisfied. Diamond benefits included drinks in the lounge, but since last order was 21:30, they kindly brought dessert a little earlier at the end. I wish the Diamond benefit also included one complimentary drink at Aiju. We also fully enjoyed the gua sha in our Karaku Room and the in-room drinks—pure bliss. Next time, we’d like to visit in winter.

I stayed over the we...
I stayed over the weekend and was able to spend a very comfortable time without feeling any crowding, even in the lounge or the large public bath. For dinner, I chose sushi served at the counter, and it was so delicious it truly moved me—especially as I enjoyed watching the chef’s superb knife skills right in front of me. On the other hand, there were a few small points that concerned me. Perhaps because it was an inexpensive Plan, I noticed cost-cutting in several areas—for example, there was an instruction manual for a facial steamer in the Room but not the device itself; breakfast no longer offered a choice between white rice and multigrain rice as it used to; and the sweets that came with the welcome drink were no longer provided. That was my only disappointment.

The view is spectacular.
The rooms were great. Both had wonderful views, and I spent my time going back and forth between the terrace and the bath. There was no razor, so I ended up going home the next day without shaving. I think a note should be added advising guests to bring one. If I stay again, I’ll probably skip dinner.

The Hotel Staff Appearance
The attentive, heartwarming service and the bright young staff made our stay wonderful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meals.

The meals are outstanding.
We stayed here on our way back from Akazawa Geihinkan because we wanted to try the sushi. It was truly delicious.

Regarding the parking lot
Although spaces 1 and 2 near the entrance were available, I was directed to park in space 7, and someone who arrived later parked in space 1. When I asked the staff, they said they let them park there because they would be leaving soon. However, it was still parked there when I checked out the next day. The suite was vacant that day, so it wasn’t even a guest from there—very unpleasant.

I’m dissatisfied with the staff’s service.
During dinner, a staff member directly told us, “Please be quiet.” We thought we were simply having a normal conversation while eating as a group of three, so we were surprised. Then the guest at the next table suddenly banged on the table and shouted, “Move our seats,” so we asked the staff to relocate them as soon as possible. Since it was a weekday and there were other empty tables, we wished they had moved the neighboring guests sooner. We also would have appreciated it if the staff had spoken more gently instead of saying it so directly (for example, “We’re sorry, but please be mindful of those around you.”). It was upsetting and ruined our meal to feel as though we weren’t allowed to enjoy conversation during dinner. After they were moved, one of their companions even came over to our table later to apologize. We have stayed here repeatedly in both Hakone and Atami (this was our 5th visit), and this was the first time we have ever felt uncomfortable.

I was able to enjoy a relaxing, unhurried time.
Having had a wonderful stay at Karaku in Gora before, we visited Atami this time for its great location. Since it was the rainy season, we expected rain, but we were lucky to have clear weather and could enjoy stunning views of the horizon from the lounge, our Room, and the open-air bath—it was truly amazing. In Gora, there were plenty of drinks such as alcohol in the refrigerator, but here it seems that Rooms other than the Karaku Room come with only water and juice. That said, the lounge was spacious and well stocked with self-serve alcohol, snacks, and sweets. I can’t drink alcohol right now, but I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I could. The lounge serving authentic coffee opens from 7:00 a.m., and we could choose our favorite coffee and cup from a wide selection—such a lovely way to start the day. Everyone—from the parking staff to those at reception, in the lounge, and at meals—was full of hospitality. Even though they must be busy, they all seemed calm and unhurried, which made us feel comfortable wherever we were. The relationship between what seemed like senior staff guiding others and younger staff also felt very positive, which I think contributes to the overall hospitality. At dinner I happened to be from the same hometown as one of the younger staff members and chatted briefly; despite being young, their manner of speaking and movements were very gentle and impressive. The team’s sense of distance—attentive without being intrusive—was also excellent. Thank you as well for the anniversary dessert plate. Dinner was delicious особенно—the sashimi and mixed rice were outstanding. Breakfast is Japanese only; since I remember how great the Western-style breakfast in Gora was, I thought it would be nice if there were a Western option here too. One small disappointment was that our seats for dinner and breakfast were exactly the same—I don’t think I’ve experienced that before. Still, everywhere was quiet and relaxing, we could take our time throughout our stay, and it became a perfect holiday. Thank you very much to everyone!

Overall, everything was great; I’ll mention a few minor points that stood out.
I chose the sushi dinner, and was surprised that chawanmushi was served right at the start of the course. It was very tasty with a rich dashi flavor, but I felt it might be better balanced if served from the middle onward. This is just my personal opinion, but I think lighter items with a smooth texture—such as jun-sai—or refreshing vinegared dishes would better set up the next sashimi course. I was also surprised that the hand towel was presented inside out (with the reverse side facing out). Perhaps this is to highlight that it is an Imabari towel, but at dinner (including towel replacements during dinner) and at breakfast, the towels were rolled with the tag side facing outward. Since the tag is on what should be considered the reverse side, I think this could be improved. As someone who enjoys drinks, it would be even more perfect if there were one or two additional snack options in the lounge besides dried snacks. I’ll visit again soon.

Its well-balanced design truly stands out.
Because I had raised my expectations too much from SNS and YouTube previews, I felt a slight “hmm” when I stayed there, but at a price point of JPY 150,000 per night with dinner included, it may feel well balanced. Compared with Marriott properties in Tokyo and other luxury hotels, the lounge, amenities, and overall service quality are slightly lower; however, if you consider the Onsen to be the main attraction, it makes sense. That said, when I used the public restroom (lobby floor), there was no toilet paper refilled, which suggested some lack of attention to detail. Also, it would have been better if they had confirmed dining times by email in advance before arrival—there seems to be room for improvement in attentiveness. The food had clear flavors and was easy to enjoy, but since I can’t eat large portions, I felt sushi might suit me better. It also made me think that being well balanced and efficient could come across as having a somewhat chain-hotel-like atmosphere. In any case, the baths were excellent.

I had a very relaxin...
I had a very relaxing stay. The view from the Room was great, and all the staff provided excellent service. One minor point: the time on the in-Room tablet was incorrect, so I couldn’t adjust the lighting or use other controls. I would like to stay again.

Huh?
I was surprised upon arrival: even though this Hotel has a drop-off area, I was told to move the car to the parking lot myself—this was a first for me. Also, I left my suitcase at the entrance and completed check-in, but it had not been delivered to my room when I entered; it arrived after some time. What happened during that time? Once in the room, I found the selection of drinks in the refrigerator far too limited. I also wish there were a few more options for snacks (2 bottles of mineral water and 2 juices). The staff’s service during meals was very good, and they accommodated our requests as well.

Warm Hospitality
The phone support during the Reservation and the warm hospitality from all the staff were truly wonderful, making our stay a memorable one. At the restaurant, the service was very attentive and graceful, and we enjoyed a comfortable, pleasant time. Thank you for your thoughtful birthday plate. The view from our Room was also beautiful and very soothing. Thank you very much for everything.

Second Visit
This was my second visit. My first impression was very good, so I decided to return. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I was a little disappointed. Last time, everything—including the welcome drink and check-in—was handled on the sofa, but this time the representative checked in at the counter and my companion only received tea. We were also guided to our Room right away, and there was no explanation about the foot bath. We were told breakfast would be available only after 8:30. I wanted it earlier, but they could not accommodate us. I felt it did not quite match the price.

Everything except the sushi was perfect.
For dinner, I chose the Takumi Umi course at Rokutsuki (table seating). Sushi was served twice during the kaiseki course, but the fish did not feel very fresh and the rice was quite firm. The simmered golden eye snapper was not seasoned through to the center and had so little flavor that I needed to dip it in the broth to taste anything. The sakura shrimp kakiage contained more spring onion than shrimp, so the shrimp presence was weak. My companion said it tasted fine, so maybe it’s just my palate. Aside from that, items like the appetizer were pleasantly good, and the clam chawanmushi was outstanding. If I visit again, I’ll choose the standard kaiseki. If you’re going to serve sushi like that, I think you should stop making sushi a signature. Breakfast was perfect in both variety and taste. The Room, lounge, large public bath, and everything from check-in to check-out were streamlined and took almost no time—polished and refined, truly worthy of a Michelin Key. It’s close to central Tokyo, the view from the Room is great, and on the way home you can also stop by Gotemba Premium Outlets—so I’d like to visit again.

Beloved Karaku
Everything was wonderful—the Shuttle Service from Atami Station, the lounge, the large public bath, the open-air bath in the Room, dinner, and breakfast. I was disappointed that there were no welcome drinks or sweets at check-in, perhaps due to a change in the system. However, I was satisfied because we could enjoy delicious sweets and draft beer in the lounge. The sushi at dinner is excellent every time. I was also impressed that the breakfast desserts had changed—thank you for everything. We look forward to visiting again for the August fireworks festival. Thank you in advance.

As a result of being passed from one person to another, I was unable to receive the spa treatment.
I called to book a spa session for two, and was told to arrange it at the front desk on the day. When we spoke to the front desk that day, we were told it was fully booked. After that, they somehow accommodated us by moving our dinner time earlier, but only one of us could use the spa. All that happened for me was having dinner moved earlier, then spending the rest of the time alone—I still don’t understand what that was for and can’t accept it. I don’t know if it’s because different companies are involved, but from my perspective I stay at a Hotel to have the best possible time. We confirmed by phone that it would be fine, yet it couldn’t be arranged. I’m so dissatisfied that I feel I deserve a refund. Given the high rating and that this is not an inexpensive Accommodation, my expectations were high, which makes this especially disappointing. I don’t think I will choose this place again, and I’m still not satisfied.

I will think carefully about whether to stay again.
As a new Ryokan, the Facility was comfortable. The sauna in the large public bath was especially excellent, and I used it many times during my stay, which greatly increased my satisfaction. Dinner sushi was also very delicious, and including breakfast, I was satisfied with the meals overall. On the other hand, the women’s open-air bath requires wearing a bathing garment, so it felt somewhat lacking in terms of openness and the natural comfort that an Onsen typically offers. What concerned me most was the service. I noticed many foreign staff members wearing “in training” badges. Everyone worked hard to assist us, but it did not quite meet the attentive hospitality I expected from a luxury Ryokan costing over JPY 100,000 per night. While the Facility and cuisine are commendable, considering the Accommodation Fee, my overall satisfaction was not high. I believe a luxury Ryokan’s value comes not only from its facilities but also from its service and overall stay experience. Since this is a Ryokan with excellent facilities, I hope that further improvements in service quality will enhance its value as a luxury Ryokan even more going forward. At present, I feel this remains an issue and would think carefully about returning.

I stayed here to celebrate a birthday.
We stayed this time to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Chef Chiko at Aiju has, as always—no, even more than before—taken things to the next level, flawlessly tailoring the ingredients to my wife’s preferences. She was truly delighted, and it made for a wonderful birthday celebration. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Chef Chiko and everyone at Aiju, as well as those who prepared the cake and bouquet. After a fifth stay, I suppose it’s inevitable that the various requests from our first visit start to feel routine. This time, however, I was disappointed that our original preferences—such as our breakfast seating and bed placement—seemed to have been forgotten. Having a regular place where “the usual” is understood isn’t easy.

It feels wasteful to throw away food, and it’s unpleasant to watch.
We stayed around our wedding anniversary. On the evening before, they wrote a congratulatory message on the dessert plate at dinner and took photos for us. They also added a message on the actual anniversary day, but no one offered to take a photo… that was the main day for us, so it was disappointing (though we did have photos from the day before). Since it was a weekday, it felt like there were fewer staff and the service seemed limited. At both breakfast and dinner, one thing that bothered me was how they handled the rice paddle. Even when rice was stuck all over it, instead of scraping it off on the edge of the pot, they dipped it in water and then wiped off the rice with a napkin. When I asked why, I was told that scraping would crush the rice and serving that would be rude…? At home, people normally scrape it off on a pot or bowl edge, don’t they? Watching them pinch off sticky rice with a napkin felt unpleasant to me. It also seemed wasteful. Also, is it not allowed to serve yourself as much rice as you want? Isn’t it hard to communicate an exact amount to staff? I don’t think having staff do everything is what good service means. I wish they would be more considerate of guests’ feelings. They prepared window-side seats for us both days, but reflections made it easy to see what was happening inside rather than outside—staff chatting among themselves and walking in an unhurried way were very noticeable. I think maintaining awareness of being seen at all times is important. Even after our first drinks were finished, no one asked “Would you like another drink?” We had to ask for tea ourselves. That’s unusual in restaurants based on my past experiences. On the second night’s dinner menu, there were fewer fish options than the day before, and the dish we had been looking forward to wasn’t available—very disappointing. Because we were on a Multiple Night Stay (were you trying to be considerate?), but if guests can choose items anyway, I don’t think you need to reduce options. The humidifier in our room had heavy white limescale where the filled water tank is set in place. I always check this at other Hotel properties too; if I see this condition, I avoid using humidification. There were some disappointing points, but many staff members were kind; the Onsen bath felt wonderful; and we received plenty of drinking water so we felt reassured. If given another chance, we would like to visit again. Please make your Shuttle Service pickup at Atami Station easier to understand (where exactly should guests wait?).

I’m happy you’re still the same.
This was our first visit in four months. It was our fifth stay in the past year since last year. To be honest, I always go with a tiny worry that I might have an unpleasant experience someday, but Karaku is always the same and welcomes us as if we’ve come back to a second home. My husband, who loves cars, says he’s happy that when parking, they kindly tell everyone equally, “Please park starting from the spaces closest to the Hotel.” A fair Hotel feels wonderful. This time, some staff members we met on our previous visit remembered us. Even though we didn’t have any special conversations, simply exchanging greetings with the staff as if they were familiar faces brought us a sense of comfort. The sweets at Lounge Toki had also been upgraded. We laughed together that the only “problem” at Karaku is that we’re always too full—and even when we want to eat more, we can’t. Our Room was probably in the best location for views so far, and we thoroughly enjoyed the bath as well. We’re looking forward to visiting again. Thank you very much!

It was very relaxing.
The Hotel’s Facilities were wonderful. Everything we needed was provided, and we were able to spend an elegant, completely stress-free time. The lounge was also lovely. This is a Ryokan I would like to stay at again. The large public bath was spacious and clean. I loved the deep tub, and it gave me a wonderful sense of being one with the sea. However, I wouldn’t say the service was high quality. Most of the staff wore “in training” badges. I could tell they were doing their best, but it meant we had to be considerate on our side as well, which was a bit disappointing. (For example, at a sushi restaurant or hair salon, trainees wouldn’t charge full price, right?) Dinner (Japanese cuisine) was average. As a course meal, many dishes seemed to feature sweet dashi with sugar. I would have liked more variety in acidity, saltiness, and bitterness. After the main dish—sweet-and-savory simmered golden eye snapper—being served sweet-and-savory sukiyaki-style mixed rice made me wonder whether any thought had been given to balance across the course. My palate got tired of it—tired of it…
