A bit disappointing.
What I really liked was the complimentary drinks service. There was plenty of alcohol and tea to enjoy, which was great. What was disappointing was the lack of explanation from the person who guided us to our Room. We weren’t told that information about using the Hotel was available on a tablet, so we had trouble with various things. Because it was very windy, there was an open-air bath on the outdoor balcony, but it was difficult to use, which was a bit disappointing. The large public bath was very nice, so that made it slightly more disappointing. There were also plenty of drinks prepared in the Room refrigerator, but some required a bottle opener; there wasn’t one provided, so we had to give up—another small disappointment. Still, it’s a Hotel where you can relax and take your time.

The most satisfying trip I’ve ever taken with my parents.
I stayed with my parents (three of us). Overall, this was one of the best stays we’ve ever had—an outstanding Accommodation that we would definitely like to return to. Everything was excellent: the panoramic view over Sagami Bay, the lounges, the large public bath, and the new, comfortable in-room facilities. We truly enjoyed simply relaxing and spending time inside the property. On the 6th-floor lounge, there was coffee and tea service where you can choose your favorite teacup and even select the beans or tea leaves yourself—my parents were delighted. The 8th-floor lounge also had a wonderful view, with a great selection of light snacks and alcoholic beverages, making it so appealing that we wanted to use it again and again during our stay. On the other hand, perhaps because there were many staff members still in training during our visit, there were a few minor communication issues at dinner, such as getting our name wrong or repeating confirmation questions. That said, everyone worked very hard and there was nothing unpleasant about their service—I’m sure it will only improve further. While the lounges offer an excellent variety of alcoholic drinks, I would be even happier if there were more variety—and higher quality—among the soft drinks as well. Even taking those points into account, our satisfaction level was extremely high, and I can confidently recommend this Accommodation for a trip with parents. I’d love to visit again in a different season.

This is a repeat stay.
This was my second visit since shortly after the opening, and even after several years it was very clean and comfortable. The selectable coffee in the coffee lounge is especially nice. Of course, the meals are excellent too. However, I was a bit disappointed with some non-Japanese staff’s Japanese comprehension, and especially among younger staff the pronunciation was unclear—I would have liked clearer guidance. With many older guests, there were times when staff spoke too softly to hear and didn’t pick up on gestures either, which was a shame. Still, it’s a good Hotel even with a 4-star rating. Lounge from 14:00 / Check-in 15:00 / Check-out 11:00—well worth visiting.

1) The room interior...
1) The room interior felt more like an apartment than a seaside resort, and I would have liked more of a coastal resort atmosphere. 2) Both the room and the open-air bath with a view were fully visible from nearby buildings, so it was hard to relax. 3) The meal portions were far too small. 4) Since there was no bedside lamp, it would have been nice to have a reading light instead.

The perfect accommodation for relaxation
This was my first stay, and it was an extremely satisfying experience. The Accommodation had a calm, otherworldly atmosphere that made the bustle in front of Atami Station feel unreal, and the amenities and meals were excellent.

Wonderful
The dinner service was excellent. Relaxing in the semi-open-air bath while gazing at the sound of the waves and the blue moon, and in the infinity bath glowing in the morning sun, was truly soothing.

Wonderful Hotel
We stayed as a family of four—my husband and I and our two elementary-school daughters. At just under 200,000 yen per night, it was a wonderful Hotel that felt worth more than the price. Despite the ongoing labor shortage, they had ample staff, and we were able to spend every moment comfortably. They also employ many foreign staff members, but their training was excellent and everything felt very pleasant. A small point: the toothbrushes were eco-friendly, but they were too soft to brush properly! (Laugh) It’s just one toothbrush—if you’re particular about it, you should bring your own, so it’s a minor issue. The in-Room bath is nice as well, but I highly recommend the excellent large public bath. I was also impressed that there was very little difference between the photos on the website and what we actually experienced. If you want a Hotel you can trust without hesitation, I highly recommend Karaku.

I was very satisfied.
Thank you for hosting us for a one-night, two-day stay the other day. We were able to enjoy service and experiences that exceeded the price, and it was a very satisfying stay. In particular, the views from the 8th-floor observation area and the large public bath were wonderful. When I called to change the Shuttle Service time, it took a little effort to get through the automated system before reaching a staff member. However, once connected, they responded politely, and on the day we were warmly welcomed from about 10 minutes before departure time. At check-in, they quickly remembered my name and addressed me by it, which made me happy. Even though we arrived early, we were served tea and sweets and were promptly shown around. Although there were some areas where deterioration on the walls was noticeable in our Room, all amenities were clean—especially the bed, which was excellent. Even on a lower floor we could see the ocean, which we appreciated. The 6th-floor lounge had a wide variety of tasty drinks; however, on our first visit we weren’t sure how to use or enjoy it, so a brief word of guidance would have been reassuring. The 8th-floor lounge offered an abundant selection of snacks and alcohol, and spending time there while looking out at the sea felt truly luxurious. Dinner was genuinely delicious dish by dish—especially the fish—and the staff’s service was kind. There was a great selection of sake and wine, though options like plum wine felt somewhat limited. The large public bath had great views both at night and in the morning, and the sauna was excellent; however, I wished there had been information about when steam is released in the steam sauna so I could time my visit accordingly. The open-air bath was fairly deep; having a shallower area as well might have made it easier to relax for longer. Breakfast was delicious in true Ryokan style but slightly salty overall, and in the morning some staff seemed a bit rushed. Wi-Fi also felt slightly weak on the 6th floor. That said, these points are all minor “if I had to say” comments and did not detract from our overall satisfaction. It was a wonderful Accommodation that we would definitely like to return to again. Thank you very much.

For a special family milestone trip.
Due to a cancellation, we were able to change our meal to sushi. It was very good. At both lounges, most of the sweets were overly sweet. There was one type of bitter chocolate, but even the rice crackers were on the sweet side. It was disappointing that there were hardly any options suitable for guests who need to watch their uric acid or blood sugar levels. I would have appreciated having some more health-conscious choices in the lounges.

I tend to worry about the little things...
We stayed right after the holiday period. We were on a lower floor, but we could still see the ocean through the trees, and the Room was more spacious than we expected, which was great. We liked it so much that we made another Reservation right away, but since it was our first stay, we would have appreciated a more thorough explanation of the facilities. A non-Japanese staff member showed us to our Room and asked, “Do you have any questions?” We asked what came to mind at the moment, but later realized we forgot to ask things like whether towels are provided at the large public bath, which floor dining is on, and whether it’s okay to go to the lounge or meals in loungewear. These may be minor for repeat guests, but as first-timers we missed them. We would like staff to explain at least the essentials. We went to the large public bath five minutes before 3:00 p.m., since it was said to open at 3:00 p.m., but being told we couldn’t enter until exactly 3:00 felt overly strict. Several other guests were already waiting as well and commented that they couldn’t get in either. This was a first for us. The two lounges were nice too, but many of the snacks felt like souvenir sweets, so we’d love to see a bit more variety. I’ve mentioned quite a few small points, but overall we were satisfied—the meals were good and we had a relaxing stay.

A beer with an ocean view is the best!
Wanting to feel Atami in spring and the spring sea, I made a Reservation on a high floor—and it was absolutely the right choice. The ocean view from the Room was wonderful. At night after a bath, sitting on the balcony with a beer, listening to the waves while watching the moonlight on the sea… I could stay there forever. A beer while soaking in the lounge footbath and the infinity-style open-air panoramic bath—everything was outstanding. Dinner was at Mutsuki. They had Aramasa No.6 sake, and I thoroughly enjoyed both the food and drinks. I’d love to visit again in spring, although spring weather can be unpredictable these days. By the way, I deducted one star for hospitality/service. There were no issues at all with either hospitality or service, but it felt slightly by-the-book. If there were just a little more friendliness—more room to enjoy conversation—I think it would leave a very different impression and lasting memory, so this is four stars with hopes for even better experiences in the future. Sorry for being picky.

Free services
This was my second stay at the same time of year, following last year. Enjoying the bath in such great weather was simply amazing. The design of the large public bath has a really nice feel. The Room and meals were satisfactory, but there were a few disappointing changes: complimentary disposable chopsticks were no longer available, the wasabi was no longer freshly grated by guests, and some side dishes from the breakfast service had been discontinued, which was very disappointing. The lounge was nice, but it was crowded—I wish it had been a bit more spacious.

Celebrating My Mother’s 88th Birthday
I gifted my mother a two-night stay to celebrate her 88th birthday. She has trouble walking, so I was a bit worried, but thanks to the kind support and thoughtful check-ins from all the staff, she said she was able to spend her time comfortably. She really loved both the Onsen and the meals, and kept saying how wonderful it was. On the first day, I requested a celebratory message plate with the Japanese meal, and it made her very happy. The sushi on the second day was also outstanding—she absolutely loved it. Hearing her talk about it made me want to visit with my family next time. Thank you very much to everyone.

This was my first stay. I was very satisfied with the service, the meals, and the Room. I also enjoyed the lovely tableware at mealtimes and the coffee cups in the lounge. Everyone was delighted with your thoughtful attention to every detail.
Thank you for taking care of us during my wife’s class reunion stay. With the forecast calling for worsening weather, your Shuttle Service was smooth, and we were able to enjoy the infinity-style large public bath while it was still sunny—everyone was very satisfied and truly grateful. The cuisine at “Mutsuki” was delicious and varied, and you also prepared a semi-private dining space so we could relax and talk; this, too, was greatly appreciated. When we visited “Toki” after dinner, you even arranged seating for us—thank you for all your thoughtful attention to detail. The Room, large public bath, lounge, and other Facilities are wonderful to begin with, but I believe the reason we could spend such a comfortable time is thanks to the efforts of the manager and all staff members. We will be staying again on June 9th to celebrate my wife’s birthday. This has become our favorite regular Accommodation—thank you very much everyone, and we look forward to seeing you again.

It was wonderful!
I left early expecting heavy traffic, but my prediction was way off and I arrived before check-in time... Even so, thank you for welcoming me with a smile and inviting me to relax in the lobby. I was very satisfied with the Room—despite being on a lower floor, I could still see the ocean! Just one request: I’d love it if the skincare amenities came in pouch-type packaging. The open-air bath with a view was spacious and refreshing, and the post-bath drinks selection was just right: water, beer, milk, and coffee milk. The two lounges each had their own character, and I especially loved the octopus marinade—I ended up enjoying quite a lot of it with drinks (haha). Dinner was not only beautifully presented; everything tasted wonderful all the way through dessert! And to all of the staff: Every single person provided pleasant service with a smile, which made our time truly enjoyable. Thank you as well for thoughtfully accommodating my requested dietary dislikes and other details in advance—all of it had been properly shared among the team. Also, when I injured my finger due to my own carelessness, I really appreciated how quickly you lent me bandages and disinfectant. Your response to my questions about other Rooms was more helpful than I ever expected—thank you! I love traveling and stay at many Accommodations, but places with this level of attentiveness are rare.

After enjoying Japan...
After enjoying Japanese cuisine at Mutsuki in February, I revisited a month later because I wanted sushi for dinner. Everything was delicious, including longtooth grouper, blackthroat seaperch, and chawanmushi rich with shellfish broth. The portions were not very large, so I went straight to the lounge after dinner and enjoyed a bit more dessert. Compared with Gora Kadan in Hakone, there were fewer international guests here, the large public bath was closer, and the overall impression was more compact. Personally, I may prefer Hakone for its stronger resort atmosphere. The lounge offers a wide selection of drinks including alcohol, but it is disappointing that there are not many non-alcoholic options. Since Izu has many citrus juices such as New Summer Orange, why not offer them? In February I traveled by train and requested the Shuttle Service, but it was fully booked so I took a taxi instead. On the way back, I managed to get on the 12:00 Shuttle Service after check-out because there was availability; it was a nice car (a Mercedes), but it only seats about two groups. If possible requests are to be accommodated when they arise, it might be better to have a slightly larger Shuttle Service vehicle available as well.

It was my first stay.
Since I had informed you of my car model in advance, the doorman greeted me by name and I was able to enter the Hotel right away. Just as the Reviews said, the lobby and lounge had an amazing view, and I was truly impressed. At check-in, we were served roasted green tea cheesecake and iced roasted green tea; the cheesecake was delicious as well. Our Room was on the 5th floor. We stayed with three people, and it was spacious, easy to use, and comfortably relaxing—something we really appreciated. The lounge we had been looking forward to actually came in two locations: on the lobby floor we could see Hatsushima in the distance, while on the 6th floor it faced the mountains. After breakfast the next morning, we went for coffee. There were many types of coffee beans, and a staff member carefully brewed each cup and brought it to our table. Since we were lucky with great weather, we used the outdoor terrace—and that was absolutely the right choice. The day we stayed also had low humidity, so it felt like a clear May day and was very pleasant. Each lounge also offered tasty snacks, so I ended up wandering around trying to choose—there were almost too many options for the time we had. Everything was delicious. Both dinner and breakfast were wonderful for both eyes and taste—so good that I even went back for seconds of rice. I also really loved the in-house slippers so much that I regret forgetting to ask where I could buy them when checking out. Next time, I’d like to visit not with family but with friends instead. Every staff member greeted us with a smile and provided attentive service, allowing our whole family to make great memories together. Thank you very much.

The improvements we requested during our stay last year have been addressed significantly, so this time everything was perfect.
I had already submitted a survey to the Hotel, but the service improvements I requested have been greatly addressed, and I was able to enjoy a satisfying and pleasant two-day stay. Moreover, every staff member provided warm and comfortable service, and I was impressed by the excellent training. I have stayed at all three Orix Resort locations in Atami and Hakone, and this stay in Atami was the most pleasant. If customer service training is thoroughly implemented across the entire group, I believe it can grow into an even better Resort Hotel. Thank you for your hospitality, including the meals. Thank you very much.

Wonderful
We stayed just after Golden Week. The cuisine, the Room, and the staff’s attentive hospitality—everything was a perfect 100. Not only was the open-air bath in our Room wonderful, but the view from the open-air bath at the large public bath was breathtaking—an otherworldly experience that left us speechless. There’s no doubt this will become our secret hideaway (a place to rest and recharge). We’d love to experience each season there! Thank you very much.

We had a relaxing stay.
As always, it was a very satisfying trip. This time, since it was Golden Week, we came by train to avoid traffic. Thank you as well to the Shuttle Service staff for treating us so kindly and gently. The two lounges were wonderful. The lounge just before 3:00 p.m. on the day we arrived was very lively, and I wondered if we shouldn’t stay too long. When I stood up to leave, a female staff member spoke to me, which made me very happy. All of the staff are very friendly, but I also got the impression that they pay close attention to each guest. This time we had Japanese cuisine, and it was delicious. The portions were a little large for us, so by the end we were quite full and it was tough. Great meals, great Onsen, great lounges, and a great Room—this is my husband’s favorite Accommodation. When he’s tired from work, he’ll say, “Let’s go to Karaku!” Thanks to that, I also get to stay at such a wonderful Accommodation. We will visit again—thank you in advance.

We would appreciate consideration for Multiple Night Stays.
The room was clean, and the open-air bath on the balcony was also nice. However, it felt like there was too little consideration for guests on a Multiple Night Stay. There is no restaurant or shop for lunch, and there is almost nothing within walking distance from the Hotel. The public bath, lounge, gym, etc. are all unavailable until around 11:00–15:00. Since we wanted to relax during a Multiple Night Stay, I at least wanted the public bath and gym to remain open. Many of the staff were polite and kind. For meals, we chose sushi on the first day and kaiseki on the second day, but the sushi was not very good considering it required an extra charge. The sea urchin in particular had a strong fishy smell; it was served not only as gunkan-maki but also paired with items such as shrimp, which made even the shrimp taste fishy. If you have to choose one, I think kaiseki is better.

We stayed for one ni...
We stayed for one night during Golden Week. The Facility and guest room were excellent, and we really enjoyed using the lounge in a comfortable atmosphere. However, the service did not match the quality of the Facility, which was disappointing. The staff member who showed us to our room was not Japanese and did not speak Japanese well, so we often could not understand what was being said. Even when we asked for clarification, they simply repeated the same phrase with a smile (e.g., “What is XX?” “XX is XX.”), which did not help at all—it made us feel as if we were in a foreign country. At check-in as well, even though we had made a Reservation and arrived via Shuttle Service, another guest cut in line and was assisted first despite having booked a later Shuttle Service than us. We were kept waiting, which was very unpleasant. Staff also guided that guest regarding Shuttle Service, but told us it was already full. Since we were supposed to arrive earlier in the first place, this felt unfair. Overall, this level of service is far from what I would expect from a five-star Hotel; it felt like staff were simply following a manual. The Facility and rooms are wonderful, so I hope the service will be improved significantly.

If you’re staying in Atami, Karaku is a place you’ll want to return to.
We stayed as a family of four, using two Rooms. We also stayed in Hakone, but because we liked the ocean view and the taste of the food here, this is an Accommodation we would like to visit again. What was good Easy access from Tokyo. With an ocean view, we could really enjoy a resort atmosphere, which was wonderful. The drinks and light snacks in the two lounges were all thoughtfully prepared and delicious. I didn’t try the cake, so I can’t comment on that. The meals didn’t feature luxury ingredients or elaborate presentation, but everything tasted excellent. The juice and sweets in the Room were also delicious, and I thought about ordering them online. The “aosa seaweed rice crackers” we received as an IKYU Diamond benefit were also very tasty. The in-house slippers were comfortable and easy to walk in. Since we stayed during Golden Week peak season, it did feel somewhat expensive, but everything was delicious and overall it was a highly satisfying Accommodation. Points for improvement At dinner, the Kirin Ichiban Shibori Premium I ordered tasted bad. Both the flavor and carbonation/foam were poor, and it was served in what looked like an octagonal plastic glass. Could this have been some kind of mistake? Regarding the non-alcoholic pairing: it didn’t match the dishes. The non-alcoholic pairing at Retreat Goto Islands is very good (for your reference). Precisely because the food was so good, it was disappointing that the drinks weren’t. The water in the open-air bath in our Room seemed dirty; there was an oily film on the surface. For face wash and skincare items provided at the large public bath and in-room bathroom: I would feel safer (and be happier) if they were single-use amenities rather than pump bottles. The samue loungewear runs small. I’d like larger sizes to be placed in advance in the Room as well. It would be nice to be able to choose pillows. When serving food, because the dining area is large it takes time to carry each item over one by one, so there is some waiting. Also, staff are constantly walking around due to this layout/time burden, which makes it hard to relax. Even when I wanted to ask something, they seemed busy walking around all the time; it felt difficult to call them over or for them to notice things like refilling tea or rice. This is a high-end Accommodation, but with this dining room setup it seems fine (and perhaps better) to use trays or service carts/wagons.

Attentive service and a spectacular view
We stayed for one night in May. All staff members, including those still in training, provided very courteous service. The Shuttle Service driver also explained the route (since the road in front of the Accommodation was very congested, we took the mountain-side route and were told we might not be able to enter the rotary upon arrival). After arriving near the station, they also showed us how to get to the station. Both lounges had their own unique character: “Ma” offered a wonderful view, and at “Toki,” the drinks prepared for us were truly delicious. A few points were slightly disappointing: the reclining bath in the large public bath was shallow so about half of my body remained out of the water and got cold; overall, dinner at Aiju was quite salty (especially the lightly pickled cucumber served as a palate cleanser); there was little explanation about cooking methods or ingredients’ origins (perhaps because it was a set course—when we looked closely at a dish with some curiosity, we sometimes received an explanation such as “This is…”); although dessert was served after moving seats, it took quite a while to arrive. Overall, Aiju felt somewhat overpriced for the level of service. Also, there was a message card from the General Manager in our Room that said “early spring,” which surprised us since it was May. It may be better to update this wording seasonally. The Facility and hospitality were excellent overall, so we would like to visit again. Thank you very much for your kind care.

A Birthday Trip with the Family
Dining: Breakfast and dinner were served in the same venue, but dinner was in a semi-private setting with a calm atmosphere, while breakfast felt bright and open—both were excellent. The Japanese cuisine was gentle on the body, and every dish was delicious. The menu featured plenty of seasonal ingredients and was visually delightful; it made me want to return when the season changes just for the food (I also wonder whether the menu changes for a Multiple Night Stay). Service was attentive—staff noticed promptly when it was time to clear dishes—yet they kept a comfortable distance that respected privacy. One small concern: perhaps because our table was close to the kitchen, I found one staff member’s voice (when calling in main-dish orders) a bit loud. At the end of the course, they prepared a birthday dessert plate for us and even took photos, which became a wonderful memory. When we left, they escorted us to the elevator and said, “Have a lovely evening after this. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow as well.” Their smart, refreshing hospitality left a lasting impression. Room: I made my Reservation without researching much and stayed on the second floor. The greenery of the trees and glimpses of the sea through them felt refreshing, so I had no negative impression despite being on a lower floor. It seemed that higher floors differ not only in view but also in amenities. ・Check-in / Room guidance: At check-in you choose your dining time; although we arrived before 3:00 PM, dinner time options were not presented and we were told only 5:00 PM. Since we had an early Plan slot, I asked if it could be pushed back within that window but was told everything was already fully booked. However, shortly afterward I saw other guests checking in nearby being offered later times; when I asked again, I was told it was because they had decided that at the time of Reservation—which felt inconsistent. In the end, we were told they “asked the restaurant,” and it was adjusted for us. We had booked a Plan that included face masks/face packs, but they were missing at check-in. When I called reception/front desk, I was told they had been prepared properly but that the staff member handling check-in seemed to have forgotten; afterward another staff member brought them to our Room with polite service. There were also moments where cultural differences came through—for example someone studying Japanese or someone greeting with hands pressed together—but aside from the dinner-time adjustment issue above, everyone provided warm hospitality with genuine care overall. The Shuttle Service between Atami Station and the hotel also felt convenient and helpful.
