    We were very satisfied.

The Hotel features a modern design and a Japanese garden, and everything—from the building, Rooms, meals, to service—was excellent. I was very satisfied with the relaxing, getaway-like atmosphere.\nThe location is outstanding: you can explore Nara on foot, including Shin-Yakushi-ji Temple, the former residence of Naoya Shiga, many nearby cafes, and Naramachi.

Soaking in the open-air bath surrounded by greenery while listening to bush warblers was truly wonderful. However, I was concerned that a partially used roll of toilet paper had been left on the holder. It may seem like a minor issue, but the best hospitality is shown through attention to detail.

It exceeded my expectations, and I was extremely satisfied.

A few years ago, I stayed at Fufu Kyoto with my sister and was truly impressed, so this time we chose Fufu Nara. We were looking forward to it even before our stay, and it exceeded our expectations—we were completely satisfied! The Room was spacious, and the Onsen in the Room was already filled with hot water when we were shown in, so we could bathe right away. Both the teppanyaki dinner and breakfast featured plenty of seasonal vegetables and local ingredients. The seasoning and the doneness of the beef were excellent, and even the tableware was beautiful. My sister and I agreed once again that every Fufu property goes beyond expectations. We’re already talking about visiting another Fufu next time!

    Thank you for your help.

This was my first return to Nara since visiting Nara Park on a school trip. I’ve been to Kyoto several times, but although Nara had always interested me, I’d never had the chance to go—so I was delighted. Because it’s close to the park, my early-morning walk felt like there were more deer than people. The shrines in the clear air reminded me of what makes Nara so special. Above all, Fufu’s location is outstanding, and the dining area is set within a garden where you can feel the beauty of each season. The food was also excellent. I will visit again in autumn.\nIt made me appreciate just how wonderful Japan is.

    I’m feeling better now.

I wasn’t feeling well and debated until the last minute whether to cancel. Since my appetite was low, I really appreciated that you were able to reduce the meal portions as much as possible. Enjoying the Onsen while listening to the breeze and birdsong, and savoring the delicious food, I felt completely better by the time I left. Thank you very much. (I also left something behind—thank you for your quick help and support.)

It was a wonderful Room. The meals were delicious. One thing: I would have liked to enjoy coffee or tea in the lounge while looking out at the beautiful garden, but there were no drinks available or any service, which was disappointing.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

The oriental atmosphere and the Room’s semi-open-air bath were very relaxing. The Room also felt like being at home. The beautiful garden and the delicious meals—just as at Fufu Kyoto—were outstandingly good.

    That’s disappointing.

I had very high expectations, but I was disappointed. It is described as luxurious, but it does not live up to that standard.

I’ve gotten used to having to wait a little for everything.

As a returning guest, I expected a better experience, but the attentiveness felt lacking and the service came across as manual and scripted. We had to wait quite a long time in many situations, including for meals. That said, if you stay at the price range of a Room other than the P Suite, this level of service may be acceptable—so it may simply be a matter of adjusting expectations.

I wanted to fully enjoy the garden.

It was disappointing that so many of the garden paths were marked “No Entry” that I couldn’t even walk along the paths. I understand that a Japanese garden isn’t necessarily meant to be freely explored everywhere, but I wish the areas where paths are laid out were maintained so guests can walk them. Since the Hotel is located within the former Yamaguchi family’s Nanto Villa Garden and the Yugayama Park area, I had hoped to take my time and enjoy the garden. This garden was created by Kichirobei Yamaguchi, an executive of Yamaguchi Bank (the predecessor of Sanwa Bank). Sanwa Bank was a bold institution that helped create JCB, a globally rare international credit card brand originating outside the United States. I also think it would be nice to have more detailed information about the founder’s achievements and the history of those who carried on his legacy. In Nara there is also Shisui, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nara, which preserves a Room where Emperor Showa authenticated Japan’s instruments of ratification for both “the Treaty of Peace with Japan” and “the Security Treaty between Japan and the United States,” adding value to a stay as an important place to reflect on postwar peace. This Hotel too should take greater pride in having a garden connected to part of the history of a bank that did not give in after defeat and went on to create an internationally recognized credit card brand.

I woke up to the sound of warblers singing.

A quiet, wonderful Accommodation. When we were shown to our Room, the open-air bath was already at the perfect temperature, with steam gently rising. I was completely won over by the bookshelf stocked with books about Nara and by the delicious local green tea in a pitcher in the fridge—just like at home (and bottled water is properly provided as well). Once you step out of your Room, you’re exposed to the outdoor temperature, so when moving around, you’ll freeze if you only wear the in-house loungewear and sandals with bare feet—please come prepared. The Japanese garden path leading to the restaurant is beautiful (we even saw deer in the morning), but after dinner with a few drinks—even though it’s just next door—we had them kindly drive us over so we wouldn’t get lost. On a weekday in March, we hardly ran into other guests at all; the restaurant was private-room dining, and check-in also felt semi-private, which made everything very comfortable. The food was thoughtfully prepared down to every detail and absolutely delicious. They also offered tastings of local Nara sake—it was pure bliss. Thank you very much! We’re already planning a visit next spring (lol).

    Birthday Trip

This was my first stay at Fufu Nara, and it was excellent overall. The staff’s outstanding hospitality, the Room, and the meals—everything was perfect. Thank you for helping with a birthday surprise as well. I also left something behind, and your follow-up support was truly impressive. I will definitely stay again when I visit Nara. Thank you very much.

This was my third stay. Staying at Fufu Nara is always so relaxing, and I’m truly grateful. The Room atmosphere, ease of use, directions to the dining area, and the cuisine—everything perfectly matches our preferences. It’s a Hotel we absolutely love. I was also happy to find milk in the Room refrigerator, perhaps based on information from our previous stay. All of the staff are kind and helpful. Since we live in Tokyo, it’s a shame we can’t visit more often, but if we come to the Nara area again, we would love to stay here again. Thank you very much.

    Fufu, I love you.

This time, I visited with a long-time friend. We traveled to Nara and Kyoto. It was my friend’s first time, and she seemed to really love it. We relaxed in the Room and the bath. The meals and spa treatments were also excellent—two very satisfying days. I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much.

The staff’s service level varies a lot… and even the things I requested didn’t get communicated.

My dining requests were accommodated, but my request regarding the bed setup in the Room was not. I guess I have to accept that, given its rating, it’s simply not on the same level as a long-established top-tier Hotel.

I stayed here to celebrate my birthday. I returned because I was very satisfied with my previous stay. I especially love the open-air bath and used it many times during my stay. However, I was a bit surprised to find mold right in the center of the headrest in the open-air bath, and although I turned off all the lights and slept in complete darkness, the light by my pillow suddenly flickered brightly early in the morning. That said, there are not many Accommodations where you can see a bamboo grove from a private open-air bath, so I would like to stay again.

    It was the best time.

I wanted to visit a shop unique to Nara and was unsure about where to stay, but since it coincided with a special anniversary, I decided to stay at the luxurious "Fufu," which I had always admired. Although it was an indulgent Ryokan for us, I am truly glad we made the decision. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the hospitality was exceptional. In particular, we were touched by the thoughtful care of the woman who served us dinner on our first night. The meals were absolutely delicious. Dinner portions were generous, and we felt bad for not being able to finish everything. On the other hand, we couldn't resist having seconds during breakfast! The Saikyo-yaki dish left a lasting impression—it was incredibly tasty. Our room featured a private open-air bath where we could relax completely. The amenities were excellent as well; their original skincare products like lotion and emulsion smelled lovely and left my skin feeling soft and smooth! This stay became an unforgettable memory for our anniversary celebration. We would love to return again in the future for another special occasion. Thank you so much to everyone who took care of us—your warm and attentive service is deeply appreciated!

    For your second stay

This is truly my favorite accommodation. I stayed here in December 2024, and the comfort of that stay left such a lasting impression that I returned this year during another visit to Nara. Since I loved the room from my previous stay, I requested the same room, and they kindly fulfilled my wish. Last year, I tried staying at other accommodations and other Fufu locations, but while each had its own charm, Fufu Nara is the only place that makes me want to return again. The facilities, meals, hospitality—everything was absolutely satisfying. Above all else, the staff's exceptional service stands out; it seems like they work in a very positive environment. While I used to travel frequently to Kyoto before, now I'm completely in love with Nara. If I visit Nara again in the future, I'll definitely stay here once more. Thank you so much for taking care of me during this wonderful stay!

We fully enjoyed the atmosphere of the ancient city of Nara.

I have loved Nara since I was young and visited many times, but rarely stayed overnight. I had heard rumors that "Fufu Nara is wonderful," so this time, I invited my daughter, who recently started living on her own. The meals, the room, the bath, and the staff's hospitality were all excellent. Although I usually prefer Western-style meals, the Japanese cuisine here was outstanding. It lacked any sense of being overly formal and felt thoughtfully prepared to suit the guest's perspective in both flavor and presentation. Breakfast was also delicious, and it made me fall in love with Japanese-style meals. The bath was spacious, allowing me to relax while watching TV; I enjoyed it multiple times. Additionally, all of the staff were incredibly kind. I would love to recommend this place to many people who adore Nara as much as I do. Thanks to you all, my fatigue from the past year has been completely relieved. Thank you very much!

    Excellent

Exceeding all expectations and constantly improving. If I were to suggest one thing, it would be having a café where guests can spend time before check-in. Although unrelated to the Hotel's services, a noisy group in the open-air bath made it difficult to relax and stay longer. The Hotel itself is wonderful, so I hope they consider operating a café at the bar area for guests waiting to check in. The baked goods were not very impressive; replacing them with monaka would be appreciated. I thought they were monaka when purchasing but was disappointed as they turned out to be baked goods that weren’t very tasty.

    It became a wonderful memory.

I visited with my 75-year-old mother for a long-overdue mother-daughter trip. The room had an Onsen, allowing us to relax comfortably in the privacy of our space. There was even a TV in the bath, making it an exceptional experience to watch while soaking. Although the dining area was quite far, we chose to walk there despite the availability of a shuttle service, as the scenery along the way was beautiful. We were delighted by the stunning views and enjoyed delicious food and drinks that truly rejuvenated us. I hope to visit again someday!

The facility was good, but the service did not meet the price, and a lack of staff was noticeable.

This was our last trip as a family of five, with three small children, before the birth of our youngest child. The large glass window at the seating area during check-in was spotless, offering a view so beautiful it felt like a painting. It left us deeply impressed. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, allowing our children to crawl around safely without worry. Even down to the amenities and wallpaper, we could feel the essence of Nara, which we truly appreciated. However, the service and meals were overall disappointing. For a Ryokan charging approximately 35,000 yen per person, this might have been forgivable; however, given the high price point, expectations were naturally higher. While the vegetable dishes were very deliciously prepared and flavorful, both fish and meat lacked freshness or quality that stood out. There were discrepancies between what we had communicated in advance regarding menu preferences and what was served; on some occasions we had to make requests ourselves for adjustments or clarifications. The final dish—seasoned rice cooked in an iron pot—was mostly left uneaten in its pot because we mistakenly assumed it would be made into rice balls for us to take home (as is common practice at similar establishments). While there may have been hygiene-related reasons behind this decision or perhaps it stemmed from our misunderstanding due lack-of-confirmation beforehand—it’s worth noting many guests likely expect such services when dining where individual pots are used per table setting; thus proactive clarification would help avoid confusion here moving forward. Breakfast also arrived roughly ten minutes late despite arriving early before scheduled serving times—and included items previously flagged as dislikes ahead-of-time which felt disheartening since asking dietary preferences seemed unnecessary under those circumstances if unaccommodated anyway. Staffing appeared predominantly part-time workers rather than full-fledged employees judging by demeanor/presentation levels observed throughout stay lacking polish associated w/ luxury-tier Ryokans
