    At check-in, I was t...

    At check-in, I was told that breakfast the next morning was only available from 9:30. With an 11:00 check-out, this scheduling makes no sense. I finished breakfast at 10:50, and it takes 10 minutes to get back to the Room—how am I supposed to check out by 11:00? After I spoke up, they extended it by 30 minutes, but I felt the Accommodation should have offered that consideration in the first place. Even 30 minutes wasn’t enough, and I had to rush so much that I barely remember breakfast. I’m not asking for an extension—since they know it’s a one-night stay with an 11:00 check-out, they should prioritize breakfast slots up to around 8:30 and assign the 9:30 slot to guests staying two nights. After checking out, even though the manager was right in front of me, there was no send-off. When I tried to go outside carrying heavy luggage, a female staff member came over—but instead of helping us, she ignored us and prioritized speaking to guests getting off the elevator behind us. Even if the Room is somewhat nice, the service was terrible and very disappointing. I don’t think I will ever stay here again.

    Summer Vacation Trip

    We stayed with our grandchild as a group of three. The Room was spacious, and the wonderful in-room semi-open-air bath was the best. The water temperature was kept constant at all times, and there was plenty of hot water—truly excellent. The meals were a Japanese course dinner, carefully prepared and delicious. We shared portions with our grandchild, and it was just the right amount. However, with a young child at dinner, there were quite long waiting times during the meal, so it may have felt a bit too long. The staff’s manner and service were refined and very good. We have stayed at many luxury Accommodations, and I think this ranks among the top one or two. I would love to stay again if we have the chance. This time it was only one night, but next time we’ll go for a Multiple Night Stay.

    As expected.

    This was my repeat visit. I’m always impressed by your excellent service. The Saikyo-marinated flounder at breakfast is a flavor you can only enjoy here, and the Room’s dignified, substantial atmosphere is outstanding as well. I will visit again.

    An Accommodation with a Wonderful Nara Atmosphere

    I had a very relaxing stay—thank you. I was satisfied with the Room, bath, and meals; I think the overall quality is excellent. The only issue was that the sandals and tabi socks did not match well and were extremely slippery. Since it’s a bit of a walk to the restaurant and there are stairs, I strongly recommend changing them if possible.

    My First Trip to Nara with My Mother

    I came to Nara for the first time with my mother because we wanted to see Nara Park and the deer. We chose this Ryokan because it is close to Nara Park and has an in-room Onsen. I love traveling both in Japan and abroad, and when traveling domestically, I enjoy staying at Onsen Ryokan and wonderful Hotels. I have visited many places, but Fufu Nara was truly outstanding. Sightseeing was fun as well—we explored more than just the deer—and I would definitely like to visit Nara again, and return to Fufu Nara too. The staff’s hospitality was excellent; everyone was incredibly kind. The room and the Onsen were very clean and perfect. All of the food was delicious. We will be back.

    An elegant Accommodation with a truly special atmosphere

    Every year around this time, my sister and I take a short trip together. This year we wanted to explore Nara, so we booked our Accommodation at “Fufu Nara.” From the moment we stepped inside, the soothing scent of incense made us feel relaxed. The refined elegance of the building itself, the wonderful hospitality of all the staff, the beautifully kept Room, and the delicious meals were beyond words. It’s an Accommodation I would love to visit again someday.

    The meals were delic...

    The meals were delicious, and we were able to spend a relaxing time. Since it was used by two women, we would have preferred an L-shaped sofa. I don’t think a side-by-side type is suitable for two female friends to talk for a long time. The Room was also a studio type, but my friend went to bed early, so I wanted to watch TV and relax; however, with a studio type, sound and light carry through the space, so it wasn’t possible. I regret not requesting a separate type in advance if one was available. The meals were very delicious, so I hope to stay again in a different type of Room.

    You’ll definitely want to come back to Fufu Nara.

    I couldn’t forget how delicious the teppanyaki was last time, or the fun time we had with the chef, so we chose teppanyaki again for dinner on this visit! Just as expected, everything was outstanding and absolutely delicious—we had such an enjoyable evening and were truly satisfied. Thank you very much! Now I’m already wondering which dinner to choose next time… This time, we were rewarded with a breathtaking sunset viewed from Kasuga Taisha Wakamiya Shrine. Fufu Nara is a place I can’t help but want to visit again.

    We arrived by car, but the entrance was hard to find. The meals were mostly good, but I would prefer that no farmed products be used, including the sashimi. The beef was also domestic beef rather than Wagyu.

    I would have liked slippers for the toilet. Walking in zori sandals while wearing tabi socks was slippery and difficult, so I think it would be better to change the tabi. The fish (Spanish mackerel) in the Asuka hot pot was undercooked, which was the only disappointing part of the meal. The taste and portion size were good.

    I couldn’t forget how moved I was during my previous stay, so this is my second visit. The location, the Room (thank you for upgrading us this time), the private open-air bath in the guest room, and the cuisine all let us indulge in the essential “escape from everyday life” that we look for when traveling. What elevated that experience even further was the attentive service from every member of staff—I can only feel deep gratitude. I don’t think Fufu Nara’s hospitality can ever be fully conveyed through online information or videos alone. It is not a budget option, but I’m sure you will enjoy satisfaction well beyond the price. When sightseeing in Nara, please consider experiencing this “escape from everyday life” for yourself.

    First stay at Fufu

    This was my first stay at Fufu, and I found it very interesting. In my mind, I had imagined it as a luxury Accommodation, but my honest impression was that it is not quite that luxurious. I’m not sure if this applies only to Fufu Nara, but it felt a bit different from what I expected. What made me feel that way: - At breakfast, the voices of small children were quite loud. It’s not the children’s fault so it can’t be helped, but I realized again that this Accommodation does not have a minimum age policy like many others do. - Many of the staff seemed young and relatively inexperienced, which left me feeling something was lacking. Rather than someone who has gotten used to the job and covers things with superficial service, I want to support people who work hard even if they are young—but at breakfast we were given almost no explanation of the dishes and were told to “please refer to the menu,” which made me smile wryly. Also, I would have liked more information during the Room introduction. - The provided outdoor footwear did not go well with the tabi socks; they were slippery and very difficult (and dangerous) to walk in. When I mentioned this to staff, they said they hear it from everyone—if so, it should be improved immediately. Someone could get hurt! - The complimentary drinks in the refrigerator are appreciated, but I would really like a Nespresso machine as well. If placing one in every Room is difficult, even having one only in the lobby lounge would be fine. - Beyond that, there were various small details where it clearly differed from Accommodations that feel truly special; those differences stood out and ultimately gave me an impression one or two levels lower. That said, its unbeatable location—within walking distance of Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Todaiji Temple, Kofukuji Temple, and Naramachi—is irreplaceable. For those who prioritize location and want to stay somewhere slightly stylish for sightseeing convenience, I think this is a recommended Accommodation.

    Alcohol was expensive.

    Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious, and the Room was spacious, allowing us to relax comfortably. The open-air bath attached to the Room was also very pleasant. However, the alcoholic drinks at dinner were expensive.

    Not great.

    The Room service was very good, but it was unclear what concept the Hotel is aiming for—it felt somewhat half-baked. The food was also quite strongly seasoned; I wondered if that’s typical in Nara, and it didn’t seem to match the price.

    A Relaxing Hotel

    Thank you for the kind and attentive service from all the staff. The Room was spacious, and we were able to relax comfortably. The open-air bath in the Room had a large tub, and we enjoyed using it many times. Both dinner and breakfast featured excellent ingredient combinations and thoughtful preparation, and we were very satisfied with the taste. However, dinner felt a little lacking. If we have the chance to visit the Nara area again, we would like to stay here again.

    There were many disappointing aspects to the meals.

    I stayed here while 8 months pregnant on a trip with a friend. The spacious guest room and refined, stylish design were even better than the photos—wonderful. However, there were several disappointing points, so I’m leaving this Review. Before making the Reservation, I informed you that because I was pregnant I needed to avoid cheese, alcohol, and cured ham; that meat should be well done; and that I would like sashimi only if it was fresh. The disappointing points are as follows: - At dinner, sashimi was served as requested, but at breakfast I was not served tuna sashimi. Instead, it was replaced with inexpensive konjac “sashimi,” which made me very sad. Because I had already made several requests due to my pregnancy and didn’t want to be difficult, I gave up and didn’t say anything—but I was upset that the information wasn’t properly shared and that the substitute was clearly not equivalent in value. I also felt sorry for making my friend uncomfortable. You should reconsider who would be pleased to receive konjac “sashimi” instead of tuna sashimi. - At breakfast, we were told to flip the chicken once it cooked in the kashiwa suki-ni dish, but no extra chopsticks were provided for handling raw chicken. Using the same chopsticks for eating and touching raw meat is not hygienic. Only after we asked did you bring additional chopsticks (and it didn’t seem like an oversight). For a high-priced Accommodation, this level of attention was extremely disappointing and made me worry about hygiene standards. - At dinner, an ancient cheese called “Asuka no So” was served. I would have appreciated guidance on whether it is safe for pregnant guests to eat. I ended up checking via ChatGPT. - At dinner, the staff member who guided us from the entrance to our seats kept smirking throughout. They covered their earpiece/microphone with their hand while grinning and continued smiling in a way that suggested something amusing had happened between staff members—but from our side it simply felt unpleasant. Guests notice these things more than you might expect, so please be mindful. We had a great time relaxing in the spacious room together, but considering the high price point of this Accommodation, these issues left me feeling unsettled—so although I don’t usually write Reviews, I decided to share this feedback.

    Highly satisfied.

    One of the joys of traveling is the food, and I had heard that the meals at Fufu were excellent, so I was really looking forward to my stay. Just as expected, everything was delicious and I was completely satisfied. I stayed for two nights and never got tired of it—I finished every meal. The walk to the dining area was also enjoyable, and the garden views were truly wonderful. Seeing the gardeners caring for it every day made me understand why the garden is so beautiful. The Room layout was very practical, and the bath was relaxing as well. As a green tea lover, I really appreciated having cold-brew green tea in the refrigerator—such a nice touch. Thank you to all the staff for your courteous service. The quality at this price is outstanding. I will definitely return.

    First Stay

    I take Onsen trips three to four times a year. This time, I was planning a trip to Nara for the first time in a while since the COVID-19 pandemic. Until six years ago, I visited Nara every year, but this was my first stay at Fufu. I was completely satisfied with everything—the atmosphere of the Facility, the hospitality, the Room, the meals, and the bath—and it was a wonderful one-night stay that helped me recover from daily work fatigue. Next time, I plan to book a Multiple Night Stay and fully enjoy another great trip.

    An Extraordinary Escape

    During my stay, I was impressed not only by the wonderful space envisioned by Kengo Kuma, but also by the staff’s thoughtful efforts to offer guests an extraordinary experience.     A Tranquil Accommodation in the Ancient Capital

    We stayed here for a 2-night, 3-day trip to Kyoto and Nara. The Room’s calm interior and the fresh greenery visible from the window were truly soothing. It’s in a great location within walking distance of Todaiji Temple, yet once you step into the Accommodation, a quiet space unfolds. The meals were delicious, and the garden path leading to the dining area was wonderful as well. We also appreciated that Shuttle Service by car was arranged for our elderly companion. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    I feel relaxed every time.

    This was my third stay, and once again I stayed for three nights. The Room and bath were comfortable, and above all, I always feel that the staff’s outstanding hospitality is truly wonderful. The international staff members also work so hard that it really comes through and makes me feel warmly welcomed.

    Moved by my first teppanyaki experience

    Staying at Fufu Nara, my favorite place to relax and recharge both body and mind. I’ve returned countless times, but this was my first time trying the teppanyaki! Thanks to the chef’s outstanding skill and warm conversation, we enjoyed an incredibly delicious and comfortable time. It also reminded me that whether ingredients truly shine can change with the way they’re cooked—and with a touch of care. We would love to visit again as a couple. Thank you very much.

    An exceptional location and thoughtful attention to detail

    Early in the morning, I took a walk along Tobihino and the Sasayaki Path, joined the morning worship at Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and then enjoyed breakfast feeling refreshed. The bath water had a slightly strong chlorine smell—perhaps that is characteristic of the water quality? It concerned me a little. From the bath window, I could clearly see the bamboo grove swaying in the wind, which felt very soothing. The seasoning of the meals was just right, and everything was delicious. I would like to visit again when I have the chance.

    We were very satisfied.

    The Hotel features a modern design and a Japanese garden, and everything—from the building, Rooms, meals, to service—was excellent. I was very satisfied with the relaxing, getaway-like atmosphere.\nThe location is outstanding: you can explore Nara on foot, including Shin-Yakushi-ji Temple, the former residence of Naoya Shiga, many nearby cafes, and Naramachi.

    Soaking in the open-...

    Soaking in the open-air bath surrounded by greenery while listening to bush warblers was truly wonderful. However, I was concerned that a partially used roll of toilet paper had been left on the holder. It may seem like a minor issue, but the best hospitality is shown through attention to detail.

    It exceeded my expectations, and I was extremely satisfied.

    A few years ago, I stayed at Fufu Kyoto with my sister and was truly impressed, so this time we chose Fufu Nara. We were looking forward to it even before our stay, and it exceeded our expectations—we were completely satisfied! The Room was spacious, and the Onsen in the Room was already filled with hot water when we were shown in, so we could bathe right away. Both the teppanyaki dinner and breakfast featured plenty of seasonal vegetables and local ingredients. The seasoning and the doneness of the beef were excellent, and even the tableware was beautiful. My sister and I agreed once again that every Fufu property goes beyond expectations. We’re already talking about visiting another Fufu next time!

    This was my first return to Nara since visiting Nara Park on a school trip. I’ve been to Kyoto several times, but although Nara had always interested me, I’d never had the chance to go—so I was delighted. Because it’s close to the park, my early-morning walk felt like there were more deer than people. The shrines in the clear air reminded me of what makes Nara so special. Above all, Fufu’s location is outstanding, and the dining area is set within a garden where you can feel the beauty of each season. The food was also excellent. I will visit again in autumn.\nIt made me appreciate just how wonderful Japan is.
