    11 stays at Fufu Accommodation

    I have stayed at Fufu accommodations 11 times, including Suishoen and Kaihouro from the group. The only location I haven’t visited yet is Tokyo. However, I have not stayed at the same accommodation more than once. So how was my stay this time in Nara, which I had high expectations for? In conclusion, it was exactly what I expected from Fufu. What always impresses me about any Fufu accommodation is the food. Both dinner and breakfast at Fufu Nara were exceptional and left a lasting impression. It made me feel that traveling all the way from Kanto was worth it. However, since the dining area is located separately, cold winter days can be a bit challenging. On rainy days like this visit, it becomes even tougher. That said, the dining experience itself is worth enduring such inconveniences—though this setup feels unusual for a Fufu property. I arrived at the accommodation just before 4 PM but found no one waiting to greet guests at the entrance. At other Fufu locations, you can sense their enthusiasm in welcoming guests; however, that wasn’t present here in Nara. Perhaps they were short-staffed or busy with multiple check-ins happening simultaneously? After entering on my own and waiting for a while inside, staff eventually came rushing over to assist me with check-in procedures—but there was still some wait involved during this process as well. This kind of situation felt rare for a Fufu property; however, staff members in charge of dining were attentive and excellent. The outdoor bath had an impressive privacy screen installed—but personally speaking—it felt unnecessary to me as it obstructed views of nature outside. While I understand that these screens are likely intended to provide peace of mind for guests seeking privacy during their bath time—it would’ve been better if there were ways to enjoy more open views of lush greenery surrounding us instead. Fufu Nara’s ability to secure such an expansive site within part of Nara Park itself—and create such comfortable facilities—is truly remarkable! Among all previous stays across various Fufu properties so far—I’d rank its facilities among top-tier experiences overall!

    It was a relaxing experience.

    Thank you for your hospitality once again. During my stay, I soaked in the Onsen four times to warm myself from the core amidst the cold weather. It was my first time ordering teppanyaki at Fufu, and it was absolutely delicious. I look forward to choosing this place again for my next visit.

    Extraordinary

    Thank you for allowing us to spend a relaxing and leisurely time. From the moment we checked in, the staff warmly welcomed us. We were guided to our room, which had a very calming atmosphere. The open-air bath was accessible at any time, making it perfect for elderly guests who could enjoy chatting in the room and taking baths whenever they liked, as well as going for walks. It was truly a relaxing experience. The meals were served in just the right portions; not too much, so we could still enjoy breakfast without feeling too full from dinner. Each dish was deliciously prepared in small portions, which we appreciated. The sauces were particularly well-crafted, and the sea bream caponata stood out as especially delicious. We also enjoyed listening to stories from the chef while savoring our meal. Breakfast was beautifully presented with charming dishes and arrangements that delighted both our taste buds and eyes. Although it was a nearby accommodation stay for us, it felt like an extraordinary escape without traveling far away. We were very satisfied with this leisurely experience close to home. We would love to visit again someday! The service provided by all staff members was gentle and unobtrusive yet attentive—just perfect! Thank you very much!

    The bamboo grove walking path was wonderful.

    The Room was spacious and comfortable. However, the scent was not to my liking. There was a natural wood-scented air freshener placed at the entrance of the Room. Preferences for scents vary from person to person, so it can be challenging. Dinner was beautifully presented with creative use of lovely tableware. The open-air bath was very relaxing. There seemed to be too many staff members in certain areas, and being greeted constantly felt a bit tiring.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed at Fufu for the first time on a sister trip and were truly impressed by this wonderful accommodation. Although it was not located near the station, the peaceful and extraordinary atmosphere made up for it, with stunning views and an excellent interior throughout the property. The room had elegant and calming decor, with a very comfortable sofa and bed. The open-air bath was incredibly relaxing, with herbal elements that eased our fatigue. The water temperature was perfect as it was constantly replenished. For dinner, we were grateful for the shuttle service provided to us. Each dish served during dinner was exquisite in both presentation and taste. The staff were polite, kind, and attentive, making time fly by pleasantly. We had informed them of our dietary preferences in advance due to some dislikes, which they accommodated perfectly—this thoughtfulness meant so much to us. As we are light eaters, we felt sorry for leaving some food behind; however, they kindly prepared crab rice as rice balls for us to take away—a gesture that delighted us greatly! We enjoyed them later as a delicious late-night snack. The hospitality of everyone at Fufu left such a lasting impression on us that we hope to visit again on another sister trip someday soon. Thank you for making this journey unforgettable!

    The hospitality is excellent.

    Stayed in the Corner Suite again this time as we had a wonderful experience during our stay in June. The staff, including those at the restaurant, provided exceptional hospitality, making it a highly satisfying stay. However, my husband mentioned that his feet kept hitting the towel storage under the sink. Also, as with our previous room, my husband noticed that the ceramic sink had some chips, which he found slightly concerning. We have stayed at Fufu Atami several times before and found Fufu Nara to be equally amazing—we look forward to visiting again!

    No welcome drink?

    I was very much looking forward to the delicious welcome drink mentioned on various sites at check-in, but we did not receive one. I was extremely disappointed, wondering if it was forgotten or because the reservation was made through IKYU.com. This kind of issue can leave a very negative impression right from the start of using an accommodation, don't you think? The staff worked hard to provide excellent service regardless of whether they were Japanese or foreign, which made it even more unfortunate. Also, the path to the restaurant was dark and steep. It was very challenging for us as elderly guests. From next time on, we will request shuttle service by car as it felt quite dangerous for us. However, overall the facility was excellent and I ended up enjoying the open-air bath three times!

    Highly Satisfied

    I stayed with my mother in her 80s. The room and furnishings were lovely, and the private open-air bath was exceptional. All the staff were pleasant, and even the cleaning staff paused their work to greet us, which impressed my mother. We ordered room service for dinner, and it was perfect for us as we could enjoy it leisurely in our room despite having small appetites. Breakfast served in a private room overlooking the garden was also wonderful. Just behind the garden is Ukimido Pavilion, allowing my mother with limited mobility to enjoy sightseeing without much strain. Both my mother and I were completely satisfied with every aspect of this accommodation.

    The soothing comfort of herbal medicinal baths for quiet purification

    A trip to Nara with friends inspired by the Shosoin Exhibition—this time it was a one-night stay, but we are already talking about coming back for a Multiple Night Stay next time. The three meals of medicinal cuisine (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) were delightful. Although the unfamiliar aroma of the first lunch was slightly surprising at first, I found myself enjoying new flavors as I savored each carefully prepared dish. Dinner and breakfast were also delicious and nourishing, right down to the lightly crispy rice cooked in an earthen pot. The spacious and beautifully clean Room, along with the open-air Onsen featuring medicinal baths, created a serene atmosphere complemented by occasional deer calls—a truly beautiful experience. Once accustomed to the dim lighting in the Room, I realized it provided a calming ambiance. From underfloor heating in the bathroom to Japanese tea pots prepared in the refrigerator; from elegant glassware to perfectly tempered water infused with herbal benefits; from comfortable beds of just-right firmness—every detail contributed to comfort and relaxation. I look forward to visiting Nara Fufu again for its medicinal cuisine, therapeutic Onsen baths, and prompt hospitality!

    A Relaxing Space as Always

    We celebrated our wedding anniversary at the lovely Fufu Nara this time. As always, we enjoyed a delicious dinner full of hospitality, a delightful breakfast we always look forward to, and relaxed in the open-air bath while soaking in the refreshing air of Nara. We once again appreciated the serene bamboo grove on our way from the Room to the restaurant and talked about when we should visit next as we headed home after visiting Kasuga Taisha Shrine.     Finally stayed at the long-awaited Fufu.

    This stay was for two couples. Initially, we couldn't find the parking lot for the accommodation building and ended up parking at the restaurant building. The garden between the accommodation and restaurant buildings is that spacious. Guests can use a shuttle service by car, which was helpful for me as I have difficulty walking. My wife walked to breakfast but mentioned there were stone steps with uneven surfaces, so using the shuttle service was indeed a good choice. The room's sofa was incredibly comfortable and practical. It’s L-shaped and long enough for two adults to lie down on it comfortably—the most user-friendly sofa we've ever experienced. Additionally, having space under the bed and sofa along with non-carpeted flooring made cleaning easier, which left a positive impression. The bathroom floor seemed to have underfloor heating, keeping our feet warm after bathing. The bath used transported onsen water, and it was great that hot water would refill immediately from the spout after getting out of the tub—allowing us to always enjoy a full bath. The bath design provided ample space even for two people without feeling cramped. Waterproof chairs near the bathtub and a post-bath relaxation area were also appreciated features. If I may add one request—it would be helpful to have handrails at the entrance of the bathtub for those like me who have difficulty with mobility. Both dinner and breakfast were deliciously satisfying! For dinner, we especially enjoyed dishes like soup bowls, matsutake mushrooms in hot pot dishes, Tamba-style grilled wagyu beef—all exquisite flavors! The accompanying "hodoyimo" root vegetable in grilled dishes was something new to us but delightful nonetheless. Even dessert plates matched an autumn theme beautifully. For breakfast, Saikyo-yaki fish had just-right seasoning that melted luxuriously in our mouths—a perfect start! And speaking of melons served as dessert—they were impressively large-sized providing great satisfaction! If there are areas needing improvement: Dinner seating upstairs required stairs access; having an elevator would’ve been convenient here too. At night inside entrances or souvenir corners lighting felt dimmer than expected making visibility harder (though balancing ambiance via lighting remains understandably challenging). During private-room breakfasts while enjoyable overall—dust visible around ceiling ventilation mesh or dull surroundings caught attention slightly detracting experience quality-wise. Overall though—as expected from Fufu accommodations—it truly lived up-to its reputation!

    Escape the hustle and bustle

    Since my school trip, this was my first visit to Nara. The area around Kintetsu Nara Station was extremely crowded with many foreign tourists! However, upon arriving at Fufu Nara, it was very quiet and I felt relieved. A foreign staff member guided us to our room and left a very good impression with their friendly demeanor. The room was a bit dimly lit, and I thought it could have been more pleasant with better ventilation. However, the spaciousness and furniture arrangement were excellent, allowing us to stay comfortably. My husband seemed particularly fond of the sofa where he could lie down. Walking through the garden in yukata for dinner and breakfast felt delightful. The private dining space? It was just for two people so it felt a bit cramped; we sat sideways facing the garden. Personally, I think having an option for breakfast in a more open space would be nice. From outside, the second-floor seating also looked appealing and caught my interest. We hardly encountered other guests during our stay, making it a relaxing experience overall.

    Room, bath, and meals are all excellent. Especially the meals are consistently great, so you can always feel at ease. It would be even better if the breakfast menu changed with the seasons.

    Visited with my fore...

    Visited with my foreign husband. We strolled from Nara Station to the hotel. Compared to Kyoto, Nara has fewer tourists, making it one of our favorite destinations. We have visited Tekisui several times, but this time we stayed at the long-awaited Fufu Nara accommodation. From check-in to check-out, we enjoyed relaxing in our room. During check-in, we made a reservation for lunch at Tekisui for the next day. In the morning, we took a leisurely walk and enjoyed a delicious private room lunch there. The room included complimentary cold green tea, beer, sparkling water, regular water, and plum juice—all of which were delightful. The custom-made monaka sweets were also delicious. The amenities were excellent as well; of course, we thoroughly enjoyed the open-air bath multiple times. My husband mentioned that charging devices took longer due to lower voltage levels—bringing a mobile battery might be helpful!

    The spirit of hospitality was overflowing.

    I only mentioned it in the contact section beforehand, but I was delighted by the detailed consideration given to meals for pregnant guests. I also felt a sense of hospitality in various parts of the facility. The Room was very spacious and extremely satisfying. The 12:00 checkout time allowed for a relaxing stay, which was great.

    Fufu Nara

    I enjoyed staying at Fufu Accommodation and visited Nara this time. The room, service, and meals were all excellent. However, since the meals were so delicious, I invited a friend for lunch after checkout, but the tempura was surprisingly not good. Please reconsider the lunch menu.

    Relax and unwind.

    This was my third stay in 4 years. After checking in, I spent a relaxing time without leaving the room except for meals. The cold-brewed green tea was as delicious as ever, and the open-air bath was comfortable. We enjoyed a private and leisurely meal for two at Tekisui. After breakfast, we strolled through the garden after the rain had cleared and found that the tea house was open to the public. The garden keeper kindly guided us, providing an insightful lesson on its history. This is an accommodation I would like to visit at least once a year.

    Used for celebrating my mother-in-law's 82nd birthday.

    I was able to gift a stay at Fufu Nara to my mother-in-law for her birthday celebration. She mentioned it was her first spa experience, and I consulted with the staff via email several times before the visit. Thank you for your kind and attentive responses. My mother-in-law, who is usually busy managing flower arrangement and tea ceremony classes, seemed to have truly enjoyed a relaxing time. She said this trip was "the best among all the trips I've ever been on," which made her very satisfied. The meals, facilities, room and bath, spa treatments, and the warm hospitality of the staff—everything was exceptional. I'm relieved that I could make my mother-in-law happy. Thank you very much!

    I would love to visit again.

    The location is excellent, within walking distance to Kasuga Taisha and Todai-ji Temple. The Room design seemed meticulously planned, and the bed, sofa, and table were all very comfortable to use. Amenities were fully provided without any compromise. The meals were not only beautifully presented but also delicious, and the setting of the dining Room overlooking the garden was delightful. Above all, the hospitality from all staff members was exceptional. Their smiles, attentiveness, choice of words, as well as their thoughtfulness and care made for a truly welcoming experience.     I felt sad.

    This was my second stay. I chose this accommodation myself this time because I really liked it during my first visit, which was recommended by someone else. However, this time, there was a problem in the room (I won’t go into details here), and it left me with a very unpleasant experience. I contacted the front desk at the time, and they responded to the issue, but their response was insufficient, and the discomfort in the room continued afterward. In hindsight, I regret not asking to change rooms immediately as I spent an uncomfortable night unable to sleep. When I later told my family about what happened in the room, they asked me if any staff had suggested changing rooms. Why wasn’t there even one word like “We’ll prepare another room for you”? Was it because all rooms were fully booked? What disappointed me most of all was that during check-out, none of the staff mentioned anything about what had happened that night or offered any apology; they simply followed standard procedures without addressing it at all. Perhaps last night's issue wasn’t shared among staff members properly; however, while roles may be divided within a ryokan’s operations team internally—guests are treated as individuals! Being treated as if nothing happened felt incredibly disheartening. It saddened me so much that I didn’t have any energy left to say anything further at checkout—I just left quietly. Even now—several days after my stay—I still feel deeply disappointed thinking: "Was that truly supposed to be top-tier hospitality from such a high-end ryokan?" That’s why I've decided to write this review. I don’t think I'll ever stay at Fufu Nara again; however, I hope sharing my experience will help ensure no one else has such an unpleasant experience in future stays here.

    Wife's Birthday Celebration

    Thank you for your hospitality. After about a year, we were able to stay again and enjoy a relaxing time. Among the "Fufu" accommodations, this place feels like home to us, even if it's just our personal sentiment. My wife was deeply impressed with the spa during our previous visit, so we made a reservation again this time. She was very satisfied as the same staff member attended her session. Additionally, during dinner, without any prior arrangement, you celebrated my wife's birthday with thoughtful gestures that truly touched us. All the staff greeted us with smiles and provided excellent service, leaving both our bodies and minds refreshed just like last time. We look forward to returning to Fufu Nara again in the future.

    This was our fifth stay, combining Nara and Kyoto. Once again, we enjoyed a relaxing time at Fufu Nara with its serene atmosphere. The summer menu was delicious as always, the medicinal bath rejuvenating, and the comfortable bed helped us unwind completely. After checking out the next day, we explored nearby attractions like Shiga Naoya's former residence to fully enjoy the charm of Nara before returning to Fufu Nara to pick up our car. In the intense heat that left us drenched in sweat, we were revived by ice-cold water kindly offered by the staff. Additionally, they prepared our parked car with a cool interior and brought it around to the entrance for us. Their customer-first hospitality down to every detail moved us deeply once again! Thank you so much! We are already excitedly thinking about when to make our next reservation at Fufu Nara—we absolutely love it here!
