    The food is excellent.

    We stayed here as a couple this time! Just like the Reviews said, the food was amazing! The open-air bath in the guest room also had solid insect prevention measures in place! We really appreciated how they accommodated our requests, including the pace of serving the meals. As for areas to improve, the cleaning felt a bit lacking. It was disappointing to find dust and forgotten items left in small gaps. Also, since there is no door in the shower room, water can splash outside, so you need to be careful. I think this Facility will become even better with improvements, so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next!

    Great value for the price!

    We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday. After browsing IKYU, I was determined to stay in the “Sagami-ji” Room, so this trip was a long-awaited dream come true. First of all, I was blown away by how open and spacious the Room felt (lol). The open-air bath in the Room was so amazing that I completely forgot to visit the public bath. A typhoon came through and the weather wasn’t great, but we still enjoyed ourselves with no issues at all. The Room had high ceilings, was spacious and spotless, and the meals were absolutely delicious. At dinner, I accidentally dropped a drink glass from the table onto the floor and it broke, but the staff responded immediately and checked to make sure we weren’t hurt. I’m truly sorry about that. We stayed at “Byakudan” in Hakone (another Accommodation in the same group) the day before, and every Accommodation run by this company is wonderful. All of the staff were pleasant as well—it really makes you want to come back again.

    A Wonderful Baby-Friendly Ryokan

    They lent us a baby crib, baby bath, toys, and more, so we were able to relax in the Room with our child as a couple. The complimentary beer and tea in the Room refrigerator were also very helpful. We will stay again.

    It was our first family trip.

    We stayed here for our first trip with our 6-month-old son. Even before our stay, we exchanged emails and received very polite replies, which helped us feel at ease and look forward to the day without any worries. After we arrived, the staff explained everything and guided us while always keeping an eye on our son. During meals, it happened to coincide with his sleepy time, and we really appreciated how they were considerate about putting him to sleep—moving quietly during serving and clearing so as not to make noise. They also responded wonderfully when our son crawled after them toward the door or moved toward their feet, which made us feel glad we chose this Accommodation as parents. On our first trip, we were both excited and a little anxious about how our son would react to people other than us, but thanks to their warm hospitality it became a truly fulfilling trip. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again as a place of special memories.

    Welcome Baby-Friendly Accommodation

    This was our first Onsen trip with our 0-year-old son. We chose this Accommodation because it is baby-welcome and offers in-room dining. Since we could enjoy our meals in the Room, we were able to relax and eat delicious food without worrying about others. The staff were also very baby-friendly, and our son kept smiling without being shy around them. Sterilizing baby bottles was a big help, and it was great that you also offered Bumbo chair rentals. The Room was spacious, so he could move around freely. Thank you very much. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again someday. The Onsen was wonderful too.

    Wonderful

    This was my first stay here. I have stayed at many Accommodations, but this is the first time in a while that I truly wanted to stay again. I would definitely like to use this Accommodation again.

    Baby-Friendly Accommodation

    They kindly brought toys for our fussy baby during dinner, and their thoughtful care was wonderful. The open-air bath in the Room was also very relaxing, and although it was our first trip since giving birth, we were able to truly enjoy it.

    An Accommodation where you can truly feel “No matter how far you go, the mountains remain blue.”

    The Room, Onsen, and meals were all more than satisfying. As for service, many of the staff were from overseas or younger, but everyone was gentle and cheerful, and we had a very pleasant stay. Since we were on a Multiple Night Stay, they also kindly provided Shuttle Service when we went for a walk to a nearby park on one of the days, which was a great help. One thing I should mention—also noted in the Accommodation’s questionnaire—was that the pre-check-in pickup was by minibus, which felt disappointing. At Accommodations of this level, Shuttle Service is often arranged per party, so it was a bit of a letdown at the start. Even so, this is an Accommodation I would definitely recommend to my elderly parents and their friends.

    We stayed with our 1-year-and-10-month-old baby.

    On our previous stay we traveled with our baby at 7 months old, and this time at 1 year and 10 months—this was our second visit. The Facility was spotless, the meals served in the Room for both breakfast and dinner let us dine at a relaxed pace, and everything was delicious. Just like last time, it made for an amazing trip. In particular, the bath in the Room was spacious and easy to adjust the water temperature; even our son, who usually doesn’t want to take baths at home, happily got in again and again. All of the staff were friendly and approachable, and during check-in/out and meal service they spoke to our son often as well—we were extremely satisfied with the service. We would love to stay here again.

    This Accommodation was perfect for our first Onsen trip with our 1-year-old! Our whole family was very satisfied.

    We stayed for one night at the end of August on a weekend, as a family of three—my wife, our 14-month-old son, and me. The Room called “Awayuki,” about ten steps up from the lobby floor where we stayed, was very spacious both in the guest room and the open-air bath, allowing us to relax and enjoy a leisurely time. The in-room Onsen is free-flowing from the source, but we were able to adjust the temperature with cold water so our son could bathe as well. Because the interior was barrier-free, our son—who had just started cruising—could safely explore freely around the Room. For both dinner and breakfast, kaiseki cuisine was brought to our table in the Room. Every dish was excellent in both portion and flavor, and we were able to enjoy delicious meals together as a family without worrying about those around us. Above all, we were truly impressed by how thoughtful everything was for children. From a diaper disposal bin to children’s amenities, a kids’ menu, a baby chair, bed rails, and even toys—all of it was provided, which was incredibly helpful for traveling with a child when luggage tends to pile up. We also enjoyed the juice and small ice creams available in the shared space together with our son as a little travel treat. All of the staff were warm and kind, making this an unforgettable trip that left our whole family completely satisfied. This is a Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone considering an Onsen trip with children. We would love to visit again—thank you very much!

    This is a wonderful accommodation.

    Sorry for the very late Review. We stayed for one night as a family of three. It’s true that the hallway area shows its age, but the Room had been renovated, and as a corner Room it had a wonderful view—really lovely. Also, the male staff member who assisted us at dinner was very friendly; even when our child talked to him about all sorts of things, he never looked annoyed and made it fun for us. When we spoke with him, we were surprised to learn it’s part of the same group as Hakone Byakudan. It reminded me how kind the female staff member was when she helped us at dinner at Byakudan as well. Meeting wonderful staff on a trip really makes you happy. I hope we can visit again.

    The staff service was extremely poor.

    This is my first time writing a Review. We stayed at this Accommodation for my husband’s birthday trip. To be honest, I didn’t feel it was worth over 100,000 yen per night. We are a couple who enjoy visiting various Ryokan and Hotels, but this was the first time we felt it was only average to below average. The reasons are: - First of all, the Ryokan itself is small and old. The public bath is also small, and it didn’t feel special. - We could hear footsteps constantly, day and night. - It seemed there was no dedicated attendant; each time we were helped by someone different. (There was no casual conversation at all during our stay. There was a fairly strong earthquake in the middle of the night, but it wasn’t mentioned at all the next day. It felt very businesslike, which made me sad.) - At dinner, when we ordered beer, a young female staff member poured the first glass for us, but she poured it so quickly that about 90% became foam. She then walked away as-is, so we looked at each other and waited until some of it settled before pouring again ourselves. More than anything, there is one main reason I decided to write a Review for the first time: - At checkout, guests were crowded around what felt like a register area. A male staff member handled our payment, and after it was finished, he asked if he could have a moment of our time. He then explained a campaign: if we posted a Review, they would give us one bottle of wine or juice as a gift. I hesitated, but since I never write Reviews, I apologized and declined. Suddenly his attitude became cold: “Oh, I see. Thank you,” said without making eye contact—and there was no send-off to our car either. As we drove away feeling upset, a woman who was seeing off other guests waved to us, which helped just a little, but overall everything about this Ryokan felt underwhelming. The Reviews were very positive so we visited with confidence, but now I feel that this may be how they get people to write good Reviews. They advertise themselves as a “welcome baby Hotel,” so perhaps it may be good only for travelers with babies. Also, most of the staff were foreigners. Everyone spoke Japanese very well and worked hard—I respect that— but honestly, arriving at a Ryokan and seeing only foreign staff made me think twice.

    Their warm hospitality left a lasting impression.

    Although it is a traditional Ryokan, the guest Rooms and Facilities have been beautifully renovated, making for a very comfortable stay. One minor concern was that the refrigerator in the Room barely worked, so it may not be reliable if you want cold drinks during the hotter season. Other than that, we had no complaints—the staff were kind and attentive in every aspect, including during meals and with the Shuttle Service, and it is an Accommodation we would like to visit again.

    We arrived by train. Every staff member provided wonderful service, and we were very satisfied with the Room, bath, and meals as well—we felt refreshed both physically and mentally. This is an Accommodation we would love to return to.

    My First Trip with My Girlfriend

    This was our first trip together, and we stayed here to celebrate her birthday. The Room and service were excellent, but above all, we were truly impressed by the meals. Both breakfast and dinner were a wonderful experience. We would definitely like to stay again.

    It was a memorable trip.

    We stayed here for our 9-month-old daughter’s first trip. She happily crawled around the spacious Room, was absorbed in the toys you kindly lent us, and we enjoyed the in-room Onsen together as a family—it was wonderful to see so many smiles from her. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and we really appreciated your consideration of our pace. We were very satisfied. Our daughter usually doesn’t eat much baby food, but she finished all of her rice porridge and simmered fish in no time—we were surprised. It must have been very tasty. This is a Ryokan that makes us want to come back again. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    We stayed here for a maternity trip. They were very considerate during my pregnancy, including with the meals. We were able to relax in our Room, which was wonderful. We would love to visit again with our baby.

    It was a comfortable stay.

    Last time I stayed in the Sagamiji Room, and this time I stayed in the Hagi Room. Both Rooms were comfortable. Sagamiji felt a little too spacious for two people, so this time we chose the slightly smaller Hagi. It was just the right size for two, and we were satisfied. However, the shower booth in Hagi has no door, so if you shower with strong water pressure, water leaks into the washroom and soaks the floor. For maintenance reasons as well, it would be better to install a door. The meals were delicious, and the staff’s attentive service was excellent. Next year as well, I would like to stay in Sagamiji with its view overlooking Yugawara town, and in Hagi surrounded by lush greenery.

    Summer in Yugawara

    Our two families had a relaxing stay. Since we visited in summer, the lush greenery spreading out beyond the Room windows was beautiful. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and even our elementary-school son—who isn’t fond of kaiseki cuisine—ate well. (He was very satisfied with meals that were almost the same as an adult’s.) He also seemed to enjoy going outside to catch rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles. The building overall felt a bit old, but the Room was very clean, and the water temperature in the open-air bath was just right—it felt great no matter how many times we soaked. Since it was summer, many cicadas came to visit the balcony. If you’re not comfortable with insects, it may be best to choose your season accordingly.

    Highly recommended for families traveling with babies.

    We stayed here for our first trip since our child was born. All the staff were kind, and we were very satisfied with the baby food we requested! The open-air bath in the Room was wonderful and incredibly relaxing. I think this will be a lifelong memory.

    It was a luxurious space where I could enjoy complete privacy.

    I booked the Room-assigned Plan this time, and was shown to a detached guest room down the slope from the main house. Thanks to that, it was perfect for a solo trip—I could enjoy a completely secluded stay without running into other guests or hearing any conversations. In the open-air bath in the Room, I was able to enjoy a comfortable Onsen soak many times—day, night, and morning—surrounded by Yugawara’s deep greenery and silence, where only a relaxed sense of time flowed. The kaiseki cuisine was also excellent, and although I tend to eat quickly when dining alone, I was impressed by how smoothly each course was served at just the right timing. Everyone welcomed me with constant smiles, and I am truly grateful for such a pleasant stay. It was an Accommodation I sincerely want to visit again.

    We stayed for one ni...

    We stayed for one night to celebrate my partner’s birthday. This was our third stay. Thank you very much for your heartfelt and warm hospitality throughout our visit. The wonderful whole cake you prepared for the celebration was so light that we finished it easily, even after a full meal. You also helped us with a small issue, and we were both truly touched by your thoughtful attention to detail. Thanks to the delicious food, the wonderful Onsen, and everyone’s kindness, we were able to forget our busy daily lives and enjoy a special time of true relaxation. We would love to visit again next year.

    I was able to relax.

    This was my second trip to Yugawara this month, so instead of my usual Accommodation I stayed at Kaiseki Ryoan Ashikari, which I’d been curious about for some time. In conclusion, it was an excellent Accommodation and I would like to stay again. The only disappointments were two points: the tuna sashimi at dinner had a drip that looked like fresh blood, and the clam miso soup at breakfast hadn’t been purged of sand well enough. Other than that, everything was great—the hospitality including the Shuttle Service, and the Facility. The Room in particular was very relaxing. It had tatami flooring with futons, but unlike a typical Japanese-style room there were no partitions at all except for the toilet area. The balcony side was entirely glass-fronted. The walk-in shower booth was also glass-enclosed and came with a standard rain-head shower. A yoga mat was provided as well; if the open-air bath on the balcony were a private pool, it would feel like a pavilion-style resort in Ubud (perhaps this Japanese-style Room was inspired by that kind of design). Tokyo was scorching that day at around 35°C, but after soaking in the open-air bath and looking out over Yugawara’s forest from the balcony, I barely felt any heat. In the Room, just throwing on a bathrobe made it incredibly easy to unwind.

    Extremely satisfied

    I visited for a quick one-night getaway to refresh. Since COVID, many Hotels and Ryokan I used to like have reduced their amenities, so when I travel I bring everything I might need just in case. However, this time I didn’t need to use any of my own items at all. That alone impressed me greatly, and the Room was beautifully designed and thoughtfully arranged to feel spacious and relaxing. The private open-air bath was exactly to my taste in terms of the view, temperature, and water volume. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and elegantly prepared, and the wide selection of drinks made it hard to choose. The attendant who served our meals was cheerful, which made our stay even more enjoyable. I think this is a truly wonderful Accommodation that holds nothing back in every respect. I will visit again soon.

    Traveling with a Baby

    This was our first trip with our 9-month-old baby and my parents. The purpose was a birthday trip for my parents, but since we were traveling with a baby, we were looking for an Accommodation where our baby could also stay comfortably—and we found this one. We stayed in the Kakuyama Room. It was a wonderful space, with two beds and a tatami area where our baby could crawl around easily. There were also plenty of baby items available, which was very helpful. Each dish was carefully prepared and everything was delicious. The beautiful presentation and variety made my parents very happy as well. We added the kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) course, and the fish was so large that even the three of us could barely finish it—we were amazed! Even when our son got fussy and cried, every staff member spoke to us kindly and helped soothe him, which meant a lot to us. It became a truly lovely trip. Thank you very much.

    The Accommodation, the meals, and the staff were all excellent.

    We stayed as a family of four: a couple with our 7-year-old and 1-year-old children. We have visited several other Accommodations considered “luxury,” but for our family right now, this was the best Accommodation. The Room was spotless, and both the tatami and the in-room bath were very comfortable. All of the staff were courteous and kind, and our children were thrilled. We usually prefer dining in a restaurant setting, but this time we chose an in-room dining Plan—and it was absolutely the right choice. We’re normally busy eating while looking after the kids, but with in-room dining we didn’t have to worry about others around us, and our children could relax freely in the spacious Room. For the first time in a while, we were able to take our time and truly enjoy a delicious meal. During our stay, my wife and I kept saying how much we wanted to come back. After getting a recommendation for which Room to choose next time from one of the attendants, we made another Reservation on the spot. We’re already looking forward to it. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

    Perfect for parent-child trips!

    I stayed on 6/15–6/16. I had stayed here once more than 10 years ago and remembered it as a wonderful Accommodation, so I made another Reservation. Back then, I recall taking a walk through the Japanese garden. It has been beautifully renovated to suit the times, and in the Room we stayed in this time, we could see twinkling stars from the open-air bath outdoors—my mother and I were truly moved. The staff’s hospitality was exceptional, and my elderly mother was able to relax and feel at ease throughout our stay. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful welcome-baby stay.

    We stayed here as a “Welcome Baby” Accommodation. The staff were attentive and efficient, and we had a wonderful time. They provided thoughtful baby-friendly support such as cleaning and sterilizing feeding items and preparing pure water, which made us want to stay again.
