    With an American friend

    Delicious, enjoyable, and relaxing. The atmosphere was gentle and warm in every way. My friend from the U.S. does not eat beef or pork, and this was kindly considered from the time of Reservation. Instead of beef for the main dish, a splendid salt-steamed turban shell was served! My friend was delighted to see turban shells for the first time and even took the shell home as a souvenir. I had a wonderful time with my friend of 40 years.

    It was a very comfortable stay.

    I stayed during my 9th month of pregnancy. Since I had informed them in advance about avoiding caffeine and raw foods, alternative meals were provided, and everything was delicious and satisfying! I would love to have their homemade dishes again. When I requested a body pillow at check-in, it was promptly delivered to the Room. The refrigerator in the Room offered free drinks, and I was delighted to enjoy the mandarin jelly sold at the shop. The staff, including the housekeepers, were very attentive and greeted us warmly, making the stay pleasant. I was informed that Room dining is available after having a baby, and I look forward to visiting again post-delivery. Thank you very much!

    The open-air bath in the Room was excellent.

    This was my first stay. I stayed in a detached room. You go down stone stairs from the lobby, which might be challenging for those with mobility issues. From the room, you can overlook the garden below (no foot traffic) and enjoy views of lush green mountains in the distance. With no one around, you can relax and enjoy the terrace bath with peace of mind. The terrace features an open-air bath and two chairs, providing a comfortable space to unwind. The room was clean and had two sinks at the washbasin, which was very convenient. For tea lovers like me, I appreciated having four types of tea bags available in the room's drink selection. There was also milk provided for coffee instead of creamer, which I found to be a thoughtful touch as I prefer not to use creamers. During my stay, I used the private bath in my room multiple times—it left my skin feeling smooth! Thanks to an electric roof cover, it was possible to enjoy bathing even on rainy days. For meals, we chose a light kaiseki course that offered just enough food for us as a couple celebrating our 60s milestone birthday together. The dishes were carefully prepared and delicious. It was such a pleasant stay overall—thank you so much to all the warm and welcoming staff!

    A Memorable Trip with Your Baby

    Stayed with my 4-month-old baby. The accommodation provided a baby bath, nap futon, wet wipes, diaper bin, formula pot, Bumbo seat, and more, making it very convenient as we only needed to bring clothes, diapers, and bottles. Used bottles were sterilized by boiling upon request. Meals were plentiful and deliciously served in the room. After using the public bath, complimentary ice cream or juice was available—a delightful touch! I’d love to stay again when my child gets a bit older.

    Rooms and meals not worth the price.

    This was my second visit after the renovation. The room did not meet the expectations of an accommodation costing around 100,000 yen per night. Although it was stated that the facility had been renovated, the carpet in front of the room was stained across the hallway, and there were signs of corrosion on the door. The walls were thin; when people walked in the hallway, our door rattled. Additionally, it seemed like a storage room next to us as we frequently heard people entering and exiting, making us feel as though someone might come into our room. The ceiling also seemed thin as we could hear footsteps and objects being dropped from above. Despite visiting this ryokan for relaxation, these disturbances made it difficult to rest. The private onsen attached to our room was spacious enough with a comfortable temperature; however, when it started raining, water leaked through gaps between trees where we expected a roof to provide cover. Furthermore, there were issues with the toilet door—it wouldn’t open smoothly unless pushed firmly with both hands due to poor alignment. At one point, I couldn’t unlock it and had to use the public bath’s restroom temporarily. During checkout time—possibly due to multiple guests checking out simultaneously—we weren’t seated but instead checked out while standing at reception without any farewell gesture from staff. This contrasted sharply with their warm welcome upon arrival and left us disappointed. Having stayed at various onsen accommodations before, this place did not justify its price of 100,000 yen per night including meals. Even considering renovation costs, its value would be closer to 60–70 thousand yen at best. While photos looked beautiful online both for rooms and meals alike—they fell short in reality leaving much disappointment overall.

    An accommodation you'll want to visit again.

    I booked the "Awayuki Welcome Baby Plan." The room was spacious and spotless, with an onsen equipped with a faucet for easy temperature adjustment. Combined with the beautiful view, I found myself soaking in it multiple times. The highlight was undoubtedly the excellent service. During dinner, they brought extra toys to keep my 1-year-old entertained and even washed the child’s mug and bib that we brought from home. The only downside was that my child didn’t want to leave and threw a tantrum! Being close to the city center, I would love to visit again.

    An even better impression than last time

    The spaciousness, the functionality of the room (not only barrier-free but also equipped with chargers, nail clippers, scissors, and an impressive variety of glasses and cups rarely seen in other accommodations), the open view from the double-glass windowed room, the temperature setting of the private open-air bath (slightly lukewarm for extended relaxation), and the well-stocked free drink station near the large public bath were all reasons for our return visit in July. This time, in addition to these features, we experienced exceptional hospitality from your staff. They approached us at just the right moments and kindly showed us potential rooms after check-out when we asked about recommendations for a room suitable for elderly parents with minimal stair movement. Although it’s unfortunate that we won’t meet one male staff member who is leaving this month (thank you so much for your thoughtful assistance!), we were impressed by another overseas-born staff member who provided attentive service in perfect Japanese. This stay gave us confidence that our next visit will be just as pleasant. Thank you very much for everything! We look forward to visiting again soon!

    Highly Satisfied

    The spacious and very clean room allowed our family of four to relax and enjoy our time without worrying about the clock. The view from the bathroom in the room was lush and green, which was delightful. We chose to have meals in the room, so we could eat at a leisurely pace. The table setup made it comfortable for long periods without tiring our legs. The male server, though a foreigner, had a warm sense of hospitality that made dining very pleasant. The food was delicious, with beautifully crafted dishes that were visually enjoyable as well. Additionally, since my wife has limited use of one hand, we had requested special meal arrangements in advance; they kindly cut the fish into smaller pieces to make it easier for her to eat. It was an excellent accommodation overall; however, if I may suggest one improvement: having handrails on both sides of the stairs leading to the room and in the large public bath would provide more security for guests like my wife who can only use one hand effectively.

    Family-Friendly Accommodation

    We stayed as a family of four with two young children (ages 1 and 2). It was perfect for families, as we could enjoy meals and baths without leaving the room. The room was clean and comfortable. For in-room dining, they kindly served the children's meals first, allowing us to feed them and then enjoy our warm meal at a relaxed pace after a long time. Every dish was incredibly delicious, and even the kids loved it! The staff were kind and interacted warmly with our children, making it a truly heartwarming accommodation.     Stay with the Kinmedai Course.

    Stayed with a two-meal plan including dinner and breakfast. For dinner, I enjoyed the splendid Kinmedai course. The dishes were plentiful and incredibly delicious. Additionally, the private open-air bath in the guest room offered a breathtaking view of vast nature, allowing for a truly relaxing experience.

    Exceptional Hospitality!

    The staff at the accommodation were incredibly kind, making our stay very comfortable. The room was clean, spacious, and quiet, with almost no noise from other guest rooms. The private open-air bath attached to the room was also wonderful. We appreciated the complimentary drinks (including beer) and ice cream provided near the large public bath. The meals were visually appealing and delicious, and even the smaller course left us feeling full. The only minor disappointment was that while the amenities listed a Blu-ray player, there was actually a DVD player instead; however, this might have been due to not confirming in advance. This is another accommodation we would love to visit again and again. Thank you very much!

    Stayed with a baby.

    It was an accommodation that made me want to visit again if improvements are made, so although I usually don't write reviews, I decided to write one this time. We stayed in the "Awayuki" room with our 9-month-old baby and my husband. The room was simple but spacious and had no steps, which made it safe for our baby to crawl around comfortably. As for the disappointing points: The temperature of the open-air bath was low, so we added water while bathing, but it never got warm enough until the end, which was a bit disappointing. I personally like soaking in lukewarm water for a long time, but even then it felt too cold. Another point is about the meals: breakfast had just the right amount and flavor and was delicious; however, dinner felt insufficient. Many dishes were either bland or lacked flavor altogether—perhaps they were focusing on preserving the natural taste of ingredients? The room itself, staff who attended us, facilities' equipment and services were excellent overall. I hope improvements can be made regarding the open-air bath in our room as well as dinner quality. This accommodation is great for families with babies—it’s reassuring to stay here when traveling with little ones!

    During the Obon holi...

    During the Obon holiday, our family of six visited an Onsen for the first time in a while. The room was spacious enough and the open-air bath was lovely, but unfortunately, due to stormy weather on that day, we couldn't relax as much as we hoped because of strong winds that made us worry about the shade cover falling down. (Sigh) However, the next morning was pleasant. While having a large and spacious room felt great, I thought it might have been more relaxing if there were partition doors between the Western-style area, Japanese-style area, and washroom. For three generations with six people of mixed genders, having only a roll curtain separating the washroom from the room can be quite inconvenient... Additionally, since there wasn’t enough space for our group size at mealtime, we were served in a sectioned-off part of the lobby instead of a dining area. Next time we'd like to visit when dining in an actual dining area is possible. The complimentary ice cream and drinks available in the lobby and post-bath lounge are becoming common at many accommodations recently but are still very appreciated! I'd love to try staying in a different type of room next time too!

    We stayed in two rooms with my daughter's family. Both rooms had high ceilings, providing a sense of openness, and the view from the large windows was stunning, allowing us to relax comfortably. The open-air baths, both in the guest room and the public bath area, were at just the right temperature. Surrounded by lush greenery, we enjoyed them multiple times at our leisure. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were delicious and plentiful, leaving everyone completely satisfied. The staff members were all friendly and attentive with warm smiles, making our stay very comfortable. Even though we were a large group, shuttle service to the station was provided seamlessly—everything was perfect. We would love to stay here again!

    Comfortable Stay for Expectant Mothers

    We were accompanied by a pregnant guest, and we greatly appreciated the thoughtful considerations regarding meals and other arrangements. We were pleasantly surprised to be provided with a room larger than the one we had reserved. As this is a "Welcome Baby" accommodation, we look forward to visiting again with our baby after childbirth.

    I had a relaxing time.

    I visited with my mother. We were soothed by the spacious room, the hospitality of the staff, and the delicious food. What concerned me was having to lower the blinds every time I bathed. I wished there was at least a door between the changing area, shower, and room as I felt uneasy about gaps. Also, it was disappointing that the Shuttle Service was delayed by 5 minutes in heavy rain.

    We stayed here for our first trip with a small child. The stylish and open room, along with the private open-air bath, provided a truly extraordinary experience. The atmosphere of the lobby and room was undeniably wonderful. Since we were traveling with a small child, we opted for in-room dining. The staff noticed when our child grew tired of eating and kindly adjusted the pace of serving meals accordingly, which made us feel that this is indeed a "Welcome Baby" accommodation. The staff were very friendly towards our child, and it was impressive that they had several types of chairs available for children. The food was delicious, and overall we were very satisfied with our stay. If I may point out one thing regarding service (rated 4 stars), during check-out I was asked about my approximate departure time, so I assumed someone would help carry my luggage; however, there was no assistance provided, and I ended up carrying my luggage down the stairs myself. Since they helped carry it during check-in, I had expected similar assistance at check-out as well. With a small child in tow, it would have been helpful if someone could assist with large luggage. As for the facility itself: even when closing the sliding doors to outside areas tightly, there seemed to be gaps through which insects entered into the room—this stood out as an issue during our stay.

    Accommodation with Exceptional Hospitality

    I booked a 2-night stay to relax at an onsen during summer vacation. The first room was smaller than expected, so I requested a change for the second night, and the staff kindly accommodated my request. The new room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable—I was extremely satisfied. The meals were delicious and plentiful. On the second night, I couldn’t finish dinner, but the staff thoughtfully brought the dessert to my room as a late-night snack. All of the staff were friendly and kind; even those passing by in the hallway greeted me with smiles, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

    It was a very comfortable space.

    The Room we stayed in had a great view from the terrace, and we were lucky to hear the festive music from the shrine's festival at just the right timing. Above all, the open-air bath had a gentle spring quality and perfect temperature, making it so comfortable that we could stay in for as long as we wanted. The staff, including international members, provided attentive care while being very friendly. The meals were satisfying in both quantity and quality. We visited for a relaxing getaway with my wife, and both of us were able to fully refresh ourselves.

    This is my second visit, as the first one was so great that I came back in less than half a year. This time, I chose a slightly larger Room! The food is delicious, the staff are very kind, and this Ryokan is my favorite. I hope to visit again within this year!

    The hospitality was truly exceptional. The staff were attentive to even the smallest requests and inquiries, and everyone was incredibly pleasant. When I informed them in advance about my food preferences and dietary restrictions, they accommodated me with great care, which left a lasting impression. As an Onsen enthusiast, I especially appreciated the private open-air bath in the room being spacious enough to relax comfortably. The view was stunning as well. Surrounded by nature and soaking in the hot spring water multiple times, I felt completely rejuvenated from daily fatigue. The cuisine was classic yet outstanding—high-quality ingredients prepared with precision for a straightforward yet impressive dining experience. The portions were generous enough to satisfy even those with hearty appetites. Breakfast was equally excellent; every side dish and small accompaniment for rice was delicious. A delightful touch was being able to choose between Nagoya Cochin tamagoyaki or tamago kake gohan (rice topped with raw egg). As a fan of tamago kake gohan, this made me very happy! For those who love eating heartily, you can enjoy your first bowl of rice with side dishes and finish your second (or third) bowl with tamago kake gohan—a perfect combination. At the post-Onsen relaxation area, complimentary cold barley tea is available along with mini cans of beer and various juices. Additionally, the room's refrigerator is stocked with free beverages such as beer, oolong tea, water, and jelly desserts—another thoughtful touch. I believe this accommodation stands out as one of the top choices in the highly competitive Yugawara area.

    We stayed with our baby, and the room was very clean and comfortable, allowing our family to relax together. The onsen in the room was at a perfect temperature and felt amazing. Surrounded by nature, we enjoyed relaxing on the balcony after soaking in the onsen while admiring the beautiful scenery. The meals were all incredibly delicious. The sashimi, meat dishes, and especially the Nagoya Cochin eggs and Saikyo-grilled fish for breakfast were outstanding. Since meals were served in-room, we could enjoy them at ease without worrying about others even with a baby present. The rice porridge prepared as baby food was so carefully made that it tasted delicious even for adults. The staff showed great attention to detail during meal service by timing each dish perfectly, which we greatly appreciated. We stayed under the "Welcome Baby" plan this time, and it was heartwarming how staff interacted warmly with our baby. They had already arranged connected beds with a baby guard installed for safety. Amenities like wet wipes, a diaper disposal bin, baby soap, chairs, pots, toys—and especially their bottle cleaning service—were incredibly helpful during our stay. We used this service multiple times without hesitation as they kindly accommodated us every time—a big help when traveling away from home! They also stored our stroller safely for us. Since it was midsummer during our visit and we carried several ice packs for our child’s comfort—they kindly kept them chilled until departure—a thoughtful gesture that highlighted their exceptional hospitality. In addition to these services tailored towards families with babies—there were plenty of treats for adults too! At the post-bath lounge or lobby area free drinks such as beer or coffee (with many varieties) along with ice cream were available; new items like ice cream would occasionally be added making things enjoyable throughout! This accommodation allowed us complete relaxation even while traveling with an infant—it turned out far better than expected despite initial anxieties being first-time parents traveling together creating unforgettable memories here! We look forward eagerly returning someday soon again! Thank you so much providing such wonderful moments filled warmth care attentiveness overall fantastic experience shared amongst loved ones alike!

    The Room is one of a kind.

    For a three-generation trip, we searched for a location with convenient access from Tokyo Station and chose Ashikari in Yugawara Onsen. It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes by Limited Express Odoriko from Tokyo Station, followed by a 7-minute shuttle service from Yugawara Station to the accommodation. With only 17 rooms, each featuring a private open-air bath, the property also offers a compact yet charming public bath (semi-open-air). The deciding factor for choosing Ashikari was its unique "rooms." We selected the "Sagami-ji" room. Offering mountain and city views through floor-to-ceiling glass windows and high ceilings, it provided an open and relaxing atmosphere. The room included a massage chair and an open-air bath on the balcony with mountain views (natural hot spring water), which we enjoyed frequently during our stay. Amenities were provided by MIKIMOTO, which delighted everyone in our family. The combination of onsen benefits and MIKIMOTO products left our skin feeling smooth. Our elementary school-aged child was thrilled with unlimited ice cream and juice available near the lobby or outside the open-air baths. Adults could enjoy free coffee or drinks from the in-room refrigerator (we couldn’t even finish all the beer provided!). For dinner, we chose an additional "Matsusaka Beef" course via IKYU.com—highly recommended! The rest of the meal was also exceptional; as expected of Kaiseki Ryokan cuisine, it featured gentle flavors using local ingredients that left us fully satisfied. We appreciated being seated in a private dining area suitable for families—it allowed us to relax without worry while staff members kindly interacted with our child, creating a warm atmosphere where both body and mind could unwind completely. While there aren’t many sightseeing spots nearby, this ryokan is perfect for those who want to relax in onsen baths or experience staying in uniquely designed rooms. Highly recommended!

    The view from the Room and the meals are excellent.

    When I can take a short holiday, I often visit nearby places like Hakone or Yugawara, and this time I was pleasantly surprised. The room's spaciousness, the view, the private open-air Onsen in the room, the meals, and the staff were all excellent. Next time, I plan to book a slightly larger room. However, perhaps due to being surrounded by greenery, there were some insects... At night, a small centipede appeared in the room which I had to deal with...

    I had a very relaxin...

    I had a very relaxing stay. The Room had high ceilings and a bright atmosphere, making it feel more spacious than its actual size, and it was clean. The open-air bath in the Room was large enough for three people, which was very satisfying. I chose the in-room dining Plan, and both the timing of the dishes being served and their taste were excellent.
