    This was my first ti...

This was my first time using this accommodation. The room was relatively clean, but the sofa next to the open-air bath had stains and tears, and the garden visible in front seemed unfinished with tree stumps left as they were. Old rusty railings also remained, which made the view disappointing. The BS broadcast on TV displayed a subscription message that made it hard to watch. Although I usually stay at accommodations that do not allow children, I understand this is not always possible; however, I was bothered by loud noises coming from the room above at night (though this is more about parenting than the accommodation itself). On a positive note, during meals, families with children were seated separately from us, which showed consideration. The meals were enjoyable overall and tasted good; however, we found the portions too large and felt sorry for leaving food behind. One thing that caught my attention was when opening the rice container for seconds—the rice paddle had many grains stuck to it. Even though it was just for our use, it felt uncomfortable during refills. This kind of experience was new to me; while there were foreign staff members present, it seemed like detailed training could be improved. Overall, I would say my experience was average. Considering we paid nearly 150,000 yen for two people though, I felt less satisfied than expected. That said if given an opportunity in the future with our grandchild born last year—I might consider visiting again.

It was an accommodation that fulfilled both mind and body.

This was our first time using this accommodation. With my due date in two months, we decided to splurge a little for what would be our last trip as a couple. 【Room (Hase)】 The room had a spacious feel with floor-to-ceiling glass windows. In addition to chairs for the tatami area, there were also high chairs both indoors and on the terrace, allowing me as an expectant mother to relax comfortably. The view from the private open-air bath was stunning, and listening to the birdsong made us feel like we were in another world. My usually busy husband was able to unwind completely and even said it was "the most refreshing morning of his life." 【Staff】 We were deeply moved by the staff's thoughtful hospitality. They listened attentively to our casual conversations during meals and joined in at just the right moments with helpful suggestions or friendly remarks. When I mentioned liking freshly made onsen manju during a conversation, they kindly informed us about a nearby shop where we could try some (and they were absolutely delicious). Even foreign staff members impressed us with their polite service and fluent Japanese delivered with warm smiles. 【Meals】 Both breakfast and dinner featured exquisite dishes befitting this fine kaiseki-style inn. Despite my allergies and pregnancy-related dietary restrictions requiring many adjustments, they crafted an alternative menu that exceeded all expectations—leaving us thoroughly satisfied! Not only did everything taste amazing but each dish looked beautiful too; it truly engaged all five senses while dining here! Although I couldn’t enjoy alcohol this time around due to pregnancy restrictions—the extensive drink menu including pairing options sounded delightful. This trip nourished both body & soul—it became an unforgettable experience we'll cherish forever! While not inexpensive by any means—the value far exceeded its cost—and we hope someday soon (perhaps marking another family milestone) will bring us back again! Thank you so much!

Perfect for traveling with a baby.

It was our first Onsen trip with our 5-month-old son! Upon arriving by car, the staff immediately greeted us and helped carry our luggage. When entering the accommodation, we were warmly welcomed and guided to a beautiful lobby. It was a hot day, but they kindly served us cold green tea on lovely coasters, which made us feel very cared for. The view of the lush green garden in front added a sense of escape from daily life, allowing us to check in at a relaxed pace. The staff member handling our check-in even spoke to our son and happily took family photos for us! (As it was our first family trip, we wanted to capture many memories together—it meant so much that they offered to take pictures without us even asking.) Since my son hadn’t started eating solid foods yet, we didn’t order any children’s meals. However, I noticed that their kids' menu included options like porridge and toddler-friendly dishes—very thoughtful! Our room was conveniently located closest to the front desk, making it easy for us with minimal movement required. Our luggage had already been brought into the room before we arrived. The moment we opened the door and saw the spacious area with high ceilings and glass walls connecting seamlessly with an outdoor bath and balcony space—we couldn’t help but exclaim “Amazing!” It felt like one large open space that instantly captivated us! The table setup included an L-shaped sofa seating arrangement which made it comfortable and relaxing for everyone. Both dinner and breakfast were served in-room so my husband and I could enjoy meals at ease together. The young staff member who brought our meals provided excellent service with a warm smile; their timing between courses was perfect too—making dining truly enjoyable. During dinner when my son fell asleep midway through, they thoughtfully asked if knocking on the door would be okay before bringing food—a small gesture that showed great consideration! The Miyazaki beef tataki was incredibly tender while the tuna sashimi melted in your mouth like premium otoro—it was absolutely delicious! They also recommended mixing fresh grated wasabi into rice—which turned out amazing as well. One suggestion would be having a list or guide available either on your website or inside rooms detailing baby supplies provided—it would have been helpful! This Ryokan left such an impression during our stay that we’re already looking forward to visiting again soon!!

    It was a wonderful experience.

From the warm welcome to the farewell, we had an exceptional experience. Due to our oversight, we hadn't reserved a bus to the Hotel (as we planned to take a taxi), and upon arriving at the station, there were no taxis available! Fortunately, a staff member was at the station and kindly checked if it was possible to make a reservation on the spot. Thanks to their assistance, we were able to join due to availability. (Thank you so much! We will definitely make sure to reserve in advance next time!) The attentive service was impeccable, and all staff members were incredibly kind and welcoming. This has been the best Accommodation we've ever stayed at. The Onsen was very relaxing (the post-bath ice cream treat was amazing!), and not only was the food delicious but also perfectly portioned. We would love to visit again! We enjoyed plenty of beverages provided in our Room, including coffee from the coffee machine, tea selections, and beer from the fridge. My mother also mentioned that this has been her favorite Accommodation so far. It was our first time visiting Yugawara; however, we'd gladly return just for another stay here. Thank you for everything—looking forward to next time!

    A Private Retreat for Relaxation

I was looking for an accommodation with a private open-air bath, delicious cuisine, and a calm atmosphere to relax and escape from daily life, and I found Ashikari. I appreciated the availability of a solo traveler plan. It was a wonderful accommodation where thoughtful hospitality could be felt everywhere. During my stay, I felt very comfortable and was able to relax both mentally and physically. They kindly inquired about ingredients I dislike via email beforehand, and they also accommodated my sudden request for pick-up at the station, which was very helpful. The room I stayed in was "Tomasu," located separately from the main building. It offered views of mountains, greenery, and the sky; lying on the bed allowed me to enjoy these views directly through its design. The ceiling also let light in through shoji screens, which I found beautiful. I spent luxurious time that is hard to experience in daily life—soaking leisurely in the bath during daylight hours, relaxing on the deck or bed while reading books at my own pace. The cups and teapots provided in the room matched my personal taste perfectly; I enjoyed tea time there as well. This was my first time staying at an accommodation that provided yoga mats in-room—I made good use of them! Having towel racks (for drying towels) available by the sink area was another nice touch. Since bathing within our private room sufficed completely for us personally—we didn’t end up using public baths onsite. Meals were served facing their garden view: watching sunsets unfold while savoring exquisite dishes became memorable highlights throughout evenings here! Initially debating between smaller portion plans versus standard ones ultimately choosing latter proved worthwhile decision indeed! At night tables adorned flowers whereas mornings same seating areas featured greens instead reflecting subtle yet meaningful gestures showcasing attention-to-detail overall ambiance created around dining experiences alike! Although certain souvenir sweets desired weren’t initially stocked inside shop inventory staff went out-of-way ensuring items retrieved prior checkout timing itself—a gesture much appreciated sincerely thank-you again accordingly!! Lastly SPA services rendered Esalen massage oil treatments received left lasting impressions positively too!! This establishment offers warm hospitality making solo travelers feel welcome & comfortable alike!! Would love returning someday exploring different seasons alongside trying alternative rooms next visits ahead!!

    Thank you for your patronage.

I stayed in a room with an open-air bath for one night. I had a relaxing and enjoyable time. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were particularly excellent. The staff were friendly and accommodating to our requests, which made me very happy. Regarding the facility, it was a bit disappointing that there were some stairs to reach the room. As for the room itself, it was clean and well-maintained, but I was slightly bothered by the loud noise coming from the open-air bath area while sleeping. I would like to visit again during winter next time. Thank you to everyone at the Ryokan!

    Perfect for families with babies!!!

Stayed as a couple in their 30s with a 9-month-old baby. The "Welcome Baby Plan" allowed free cancellation until 10 AM on the day, which made the reservation process very reassuring. When we noted our request for baby item rentals during the reservation, we promptly received a reply from the accommodation confirming arrangements, adding to our peace of mind. ● Room We stayed in a spacious 60 sqm room with no steps and an 8-tatami mat Japanese-style area, allowing our baby to crawl around stress-free. The balcony was also quite large and gave off a luxurious feel. However, the shower room was small, making it slightly challenging to bathe the baby. Additionally, as some wear and tear on the shower room floor was noticeable, bringing a foldable mat might be helpful for peace of mind. The open-air bath was perfect without any complaints; however, insects tended to gather at night—daytime or early morning baths are recommended instead. For nighttime bathing needs, using the public bath is no issue. ● Meals Having meals served in-room allowed both parents and child to relax comfortably—a definite plus point! The taste exceeded expectations; while sashimi and meat were delicious as expected, all dishes had excellent dashi-based seasoning overall with just-right portions. Breakfast featured rice-friendly side dishes chosen upon check-in (grilled fish or egg dish). What stood out even more was that they provided dedicated menus for babies (available for both dinner and breakfast). Options like selecting porridge consistency helped reduce daily parenting burdens significantly while offering relaxation time during meals. Additionally appreciated were services like washing/sterilizing bottles or baby utensils. ● Hospitality From arrival until departure every staff member greeted us warmly with natural smiles—even calling our baby by name—which created an incredibly welcoming atmosphere throughout our stay. When taking picture books from reception back into rooms intended solely meant entertaining babies further ahead proactively brought toys too showcasing thoughtful gestures beyond expectations! ● Other Notes Being midweek likely contributed but rarely encountered other guests between check-in/out times ensuring tranquil experience overall. Upon leaving discussed returning again soon given satisfaction levels achieved here especially since finding calm high-end ryokans accommodating families w/babies remains rare thus highly recommendable option anyone seeking similar stays!

An Accommodation That Brings Smiles to the Whole Family

Three years ago, I stayed at this accommodation and strongly wished to visit again with my family. This time, my wish came true as I revisited with my family who live far away. Even my usually quiet father seemed to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere surrounded by greenery while relaxing on the outdoor deck sofa in the gentle breeze. He went outside several times to unwind and truly appreciated the serene space. The open-air bath was at a perfect temperature, so comfortable that I ended up soaking for a long time. It warmed me from within, leaving my skin soft and smooth while completely relieving any travel fatigue. During our previous stay, we found breakfast exceptional but felt that dinner portions were too large to fully enjoy. This time, we requested smaller portions for dinner, which turned out to be just right for us—delicious and satisfying in every way. The birthday cake we had reserved as a surprise was also very well received. It was brought to our room after dinner, allowing us to savor it slowly while reminiscing about our trip together as a family. Such thoughtful gestures deeply moved us. From the room and open-air bath to the cuisine and warm hospitality of all staff members—everything was truly outstanding. Thanks to this wonderful experience, we had an unforgettable family trip filled with satisfaction and gratitude from the bottom of our hearts.

    Birthday Celebration

We stayed at the accommodation with three women, including my elderly mother, to celebrate her birthday. Before and after making the reservation, we called several times for inquiries and consultations, and each time we received very polite responses that heightened our expectations even before our stay. The accommodation exceeded those expectations. The room was not only clean but also well-equipped with excellent facilities and amenities. The private open-air bath in the room was particularly wonderful, offering a stunning view. Since my mother has difficulty walking, we opted for in-room dining to avoid stairs during meals. This allowed us to enjoy our meal comfortably while chatting without worrying about others around us. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, but the server who attended to us during meals was especially approachable and left a great impression on us. Their service made the delicious food even more enjoyable. One minor concern was that when opening the door of our room, there was a table for dining placed directly in front of it. When food was being brought in or out with the door left open briefly, depending on the timing of people entering or exiting from neighboring rooms across from ours, it became possible for them to see us eating—this felt slightly uncomfortable. Other than that small issue, we had an incredibly comfortable stay and would love to return if given another opportunity!

    It was excellent.

We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and felt the hospitality throughout our stay. Traveling with a 1-year-old, we appreciated the thoughtful gestures such as lending picture books and toys, as well as accommodating meal timings. The meals were plentiful and absolutely delicious.

    My wife is so wonderful!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

My first visit to Yugawara Onsen was a wonderful experience. All of the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The food was even more delicious than I expected. I could truly enjoy the depth of the dashi and the natural flavors of each ingredient. I also enjoyed comparing different types of sake. The Room had large windows that made it feel open and airy, and it was clean and very comfortable. The bed was cozy, and the massage chair felt so good I almost fell asleep. I also booked an esthetic treatment for my wife, and she seemed very satisfied with it. We could often hear beautiful birdsong as well. This has become one of the Accommodations I’d love to visit again.

    Heartfelt Cuisine

The view of nature from the room was wonderful and very soothing. Every dish was carefully prepared, accompanied by a handwritten menu and poem by the chef. The content was so touching that I wanted to read it multiple times. Such passionate work is truly valuable. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again.

    Lovely Accommodation

We stayed as a group of five relatives. Although we were initially concerned due to mixed reviews, overall, it was a luxurious accommodation worth the price, and we had an extremely satisfying stay. Large hotels tend to be crowded with inbound tourists, which we dislike... so this small and hidden accommodation was ideal for us—absolutely the right choice. We hardly encountered other guests, enjoyed the large public bath in a private-like setting every time, and had a quiet and relaxing experience. The room was very clean and spacious. The fridge offered unlimited drinks like premium beer and oolong tea. The balcony's open-air bath was large, with sofas big enough to lie on—everything was perfect! With yukata robes, samue outfits, gowns available for multiple changes after baths or sweating—it was very convenient. Meals were served in our room so we could enjoy them freely without worry or hesitation. The taste and portions were excellent; even my aunt with a small appetite finished everything on her plate! The staff who brought our meals explained each dish clearly and even responded wittily to our silly jokes from the Showa era—they showed high professionalism while making dinner time fun for us. Apologies for being noisy drunkards—it must have been troublesome! While the lobby and hallways had been renovated beautifully, some areas of carpet still showed dust or stains—that part alone felt slightly disappointing. It seems renovations are being done gradually rather than all at once; hopefully next time it will be even more polished—we look forward to returning again. All staff members greeted us warmly with smiles; female staff wearing kimono added an elegant touch. Nowadays many places use samue outfits instead due to ease of movement—but their service in kimono truly made us feel like we were staying at an authentic Japanese ryokan—a wonderful experience indeed!

Family-friendly accommodation for infants and toddlers

Stayed as a family of four: a couple with a 2.5-year-old and an 8-month-old baby. The bed was spacious enough for all of us to sleep together, and they even provided bed guards for our restless little ones. They offered thoughtful amenities such as a diaper disposal bin, children's futons, plenty of toys (which they kindly swapped out during our stay), a baby chair, shampoo for infants, and even cleaned and sterilized baby bottles after each use—perfect services for families with small children. The meals were delicious, especially breakfast; we ended up asking for extra rice because it was so good! My wife said it was the best breakfast she’s ever had at any Ryokan we've visited. The staff were incredibly polite yet friendly, providing exceptional hospitality throughout our stay. The garden view from the large lobby windows was beautifully maintained and very soothing to look at. We had an amazing time here—thank you so much!

    A quiet and serene accommodation

Stayed in a detached room in June on Sunday and Monday. Since it was a bit away from the main building, interaction with the staff was limited to check-in, check-out, and meal times, but their concise and polite service made it very pleasant. The environment was quiet with the sound of warblers echoing around, and I could relax leisurely in the private open-air bath attached to the room. The room size was just right, clean, and comfortable. The vibrant greenery offered stunning views, and I look forward to seeing the beautiful autumn foliage as well.

    Plan for Guests with Babies

There is a plan for guests with babies, and I thought it would be an accommodation where adults could also relax, so I made a reservation. Although we arrived slightly earlier than the check-in time, we were promptly greeted at the entrance, and they were kind to our baby from the very beginning. They even lent us toys as soon as we arrived. Despite the unfortunate rain, the greenery in the garden viewed from the lobby and raindrops were very beautiful, which soothed my tired heart after childbirth. However, there were a few points of concern after entering the room: - The lobby had a pleasant scent, but there was a distinct smell like waterworks in the hallway and room (it seemed to lessen when turning on the air conditioner). - The public bath was old and small in design. There were lotions placed inside the bathroom for some reason. - The dinner menu was printed on large paper folded into quarters; it was hard to read because of fold lines cutting through sentences (a printing error?). - The wasabi was watery and lacked its characteristic sharpness. Despite these concerns, having both breakfast and dinner served in our room allowed us to relax fully and feel truly rejuvenated.

Accommodation you'd want to visit again

We stayed in the "Tobase" Room for two people. From the moment we were shown to the room, we were amazed by how spacious and clean it was, even more so than in the photos, and we were thrilled with the open-air bath. Although the weather was not great, a movable roof was installed over the open-air bath, allowing us to use it even in the rain. There were times of heavy rain, but it turned into a wonderful experience as we enjoyed soaking in the bath while listening to its sound. The dining venue had a lovely atmosphere, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meals. The hospitality could be felt everywhere, warming our hearts and making this an unforgettable holiday where we could escape from daily life. We strongly wish to visit again!

We celebrated a wonderful 1st birthday for our child.

We used the facility for our child's birthday. The staff were all very polite and interacted kindly with our child, making our stay very comfortable. The diaper disposal box and amenities were extremely helpful as parents! The service was very courteous, and we were highly satisfied. The Room was incredibly clean and comfortable. With toy rentals available, our child never got bored and could enjoy staying in the Room. Any requests we had were promptly addressed, allowing us to have a wonderful day. We would love to use this place again!

    It was a wonderful time!

I stayed here to celebrate my mother's birthday. From the warm welcome with everyone's lovely smiles, I felt truly at ease. The Room was absolutely amazing! It was impeccably clean, and the private open-air bath in the guest room seemed to have an automatic circulation system, keeping it very hygienic. Since the location is in the mountains, there were some insects, but insect repellents were provided, so I had no issues and enjoyed a comfortable stay! The meals were exceptionally delicious. The dishes and flower garnishes used for presentation added a visual delight that showed great attention to detail. At night, when I went to retrieve something from my car, a gentleman kindly spoke with me. His thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on me. The conversation was delightful—thank you so much! The mandarin orange juice we received as a farewell gift was absolutely fantastic. I will definitely come back again! Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

    Welcome Baby Certified Accommodation

I usually go on trips about four times a year for two nights and three days. In the past, I often stayed at high-class accommodations, but since my child was born last year, I wanted to stay at a ryokan where children can also enjoy themselves. Before staying at this accommodation, we stayed at another place we frequently visited before having our child. However, the lack of attention and inadequate services due to having a child made us feel quite uncomfortable. In contrast, the warm hospitality here truly made me realize why it is certified as a "Welcome Baby" accommodation. During meals, even when our baby cried, the staff kindly called their name and comforted them without showing any displeasure. There were also thoughtful touches like a room with books that children would enjoy. I felt this was an accommodation where even parents with 1-year-olds could stay with peace of mind. When stepping out onto the balcony with an open-air bath attached to our room, we were surrounded by nature and completely separated from the hustle and bustle of city life—it was truly relaxing. If I had to point out one downside about the room: when opening a small cabinet next to the TV, there seemed to be some scattered debris or possibly insect remains—it wasn’t clear what it was—which was disappointing. Other than that minor issue, there weren’t really any unpleasant points during our stay. Even though I'm not fond of insects in general, there were fewer than expected and well within my tolerance level. I’d love to spend more time on the balcony during winter! This is definitely an accommodation I'd like to visit again!

Surrounded by lush greenery, the chirping of birds and the soothing sound of rain provide a relaxing experience for all your senses.

We arrived early due to the rainy weather, but we were greeted with an umbrella and guided to the lobby, which was very helpful. The greenery of the trees visible from the lobby was vibrant and delightful. The flowers on display were beautiful, showcasing the accommodation's sense of style. The room had a calm and refined Japanese-modern design without excessive decoration, which we loved. From the room, we could see trees painted in deep green hues; despite the rain, the sound of raindrops was soothing. Enjoying Kanagawa's local sake and a delicious dinner left us slightly full but allowed for a good night's sleep. In the morning, while soaking in the open-air bath, I could hear birds chirping—both my body and mind felt rejuvenated. The open-air bath attached to our room had an extendable roof cover that kept us dry even in rain—truly impressive! Thanks to this feature, we soaked in Onsen multiple times at leisure; it left our skin feeling smooth and refreshed. However, during dinner when wasabi rice was served, I thought it would pair well with bonito flakes (katsuobushi). After finishing my meal and asking about it later on—I found out they did have some available! I regretted not asking earlier.

I had a relaxing and enjoyable time.

We chose this accommodation for the first night of our 3-night trip during a long vacation. It was raining all day on the day of our stay, and although we checked in a bit earlier than scheduled, the staff welcomed us warmly. Regarding customer service, while some staff seemed inexperienced, their earnest efforts were heartwarming and left a positive impression. The room and its onsen were impeccably clean and well-maintained. The meals were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. By the end of dinner, I was so full that I worried about eating dessert; however, before I could ask, a staff member kindly offered to bring it to my room. Thanks to their thoughtfulness, I enjoyed dessert leisurely in my room. From check-in to check-out, we indulged in the onsen in our room multiple times and had a truly relaxing time. It’s unfortunate that this accommodation is far from home as we would love to visit more often! While everything deserves a perfect score of 5 stars, I rated the facility 4 stars because there were only stairs leading to our room. To all the wonderful staff who took care of us during this stay—thank you for your exceptional hospitality! We look forward to staying with you again next time!

This is an accommodation we would love to visit again.

The bath, meals, room, and staff were all exceptional. The open-air bath in the room offered a stunning view of cherry blossoms and fresh green maple leaves, with the soothing sound of warblers in the morning. Both dinner and breakfast were not only visually appealing but also showcased the high level of skill and delicacy in Japanese cuisine, complemented by exquisite tableware that left us deeply impressed. The room was spacious with large windows that let in plenty of light; its open layout without partitions felt very liberating. The refrigerator was stocked with complimentary items such as premium beer, oolong tea, mandarin orange jelly, and water. Although there was a slight chlorine smell in the large public bath area, its wide windows provided a great sense of openness. At the post-bath lounge area, we enjoyed ice cream, small beers, Yakult drinks, and fruit milk—though my wife mentioned it would have been even better if coffee milk had been available. One minor concern was the security camera above this lounge area; while understandable given current times, it did create a slight feeling of being watched. Overall though, this is an outstanding accommodation offering high satisfaction levels. While we may not be able to visit frequently due to cost considerations (unspecified here), we will definitely return again someday! Thank you for your hospitality!

We stayed here while my wife was pregnant. We are very grateful for the thoughtful consideration given to meals and drinks. It became a wonderful memory before the birth of our child. Thank you very much. We reserved the shuttle service in advance, and they picked us up at the rotary of Yugawara Station. Both dinner and breakfast were served in our room. Dinner included a wide variety of dishes, all of which were delicious. Our room had a shower and an open-air bath, so we were fully satisfied without needing to use the public bathhouse. Breakfast also offered many dishes and was very satisfying.

The staff provided very polite and warm hospitality. The public bath was compact with only an indoor bath, but it was always available, and I appreciated the ice cream and juice offered in the relaxation area after bathing! Dinner was not particularly impressive—neither good nor bad. Breakfast had a variety of side dishes for rice, allowing me to enjoy small portions of many items, which was satisfying! However, the dining area is not partitioned, so I found it a bit hard to relax due to hearing other guests' conversations. Considering the accommodation price, semi-private spaces would be preferable. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay with plenty of amenities in the guest room and complimentary items in the fridge. The lounge services like coffee, tea, and ice pops were delightful as well. The staff's hospitality made for a comfortable experience overall.
