    Thinking about our services

I love Sapporo and visit often, but this was my first stay at this Hotel. The location is great, and transportation access is excellent. These days, perhaps due to staff shortages, more Hotels are introducing self check-in. I truly appreciate the accurate suggestions provided in response to my questions. Traditional service can be valued differently depending on the generation, but my stay was very comfortable. I would like to stay at this Hotel again.

    A Fun Summer Trip!

Few Hotels make you feel as relaxed and at home the moment you arrive, but this one truly does. Thank you for welcoming me back time and again and allowing me to spend my stay as comfortably as if it were my own home. The staff’s consistently prompt, attentive service has reminded me that a Hotel is defined by its people. I hope it will remain just as wonderful in the future.

    A Casual Solo Trip

I stayed here for a “staycation” while also escaping the heat and visiting ES CON FIELD. The Room was spacious and the bathroom was satisfying, but it was a shame that the window was small. The lounge was quiet, and I could relax even on my own. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of dishes and was delicious. I would like to stay here again when I visit Sapporo.

A model of true hospitality spirit

As expected of a long-established Hotel, I truly felt the staff’s passion for hospitality and had a wonderful time. Please continue to pass on these refined manners and attentiveness—something that can only be built through years of dedication—to future generations. The club lounge, in particular, was outstanding. It was clear that the light snacks provided were prepared with great care and no shortcuts. Breakfast also made generous use of Hokkaido ingredients, with cooking and seasoning that fully brought out their natural flavors—I enjoyed it so much I could almost feel my body thanking me.

A Revolutionary Idea You Won’t Find Anywhere Else? The Lounge Rules

When I stayed last November, the bell attendant who showed me to my Room said, “Our club lounge is great!”—and she wasn’t exaggerating at all. For those expecting the club lounge to function like a “free buffet restaurant,” it may feel a bit limited, but everything here clearly emphasizes quality over quantity. Also, the rule that “any drinks not served in glass or ceramic containers, and any individually wrapped snacks, may be taken back to your Room” is refreshingly straightforward—and it also helps prevent crowding in the lounge. I thought it was a great system for both guests and the Hotel. On this stay, I caused some trouble at arrival due to my own booking mistake, but they immediately предложed an alternative solution and it helped me tremendously. I didn’t use the restaurant, but after trying the light bites in the lounge and the Hotel’s own sweets, you can really tell how high this Accommodation’s food standards are. I was told that “we were actually the first to sell canned soup.” For years I had wondered, “Why would canned soup from a rural Hotel become a classic gift item at department stores across The whole country? Was that their only selling point?”—but now it finally makes sense: it’s because their food quality has always been excellent.

    Noise may be present.

We stayed for two nights in July. On the first night, we were disturbed by constant noise from the room above (continuous footsteps and sounds like items being dropped). On the second night, we could hear a child’s piercing screams and the mother shouting from the room next door, both continuing past midnight, which was very exhausting. We tried to be understanding given that this is an older Hotel and many guests are international, but since our family planned to limit sightseeing and go to bed early, choosing this Hotel was a painful mistake. We also felt disappointed because the quality of service varied greatly depending on the staff member.

    Long-established Hotel

The Hotel offers the elegance and service you would expect from a long-established property. I used the club lounge, and it would have been even better if there had been more Hokkaido-inspired ingredients on offer.

    Long-established Hotel

Overall, I was somewhat satisfied. I made a Reservation because the bathroom with a washing area, the separate toilet, and the spacious Room were appealing. However, I felt that the layout and air conditioning typical of a long-established property were unavoidable. One thing I found strange during my Multiple Night Stay was that (1) there was a day when the glasses and cups were not washed, and (2) there was a day when the cushion had been placed on the edge of the wall. Breakfast was delicious for both Japanese and Western options! The evening parfait as well! Thank you very much.

    Thank you very much.

I stayed here after reading Reviews saying that although this long-established Hotel has older Facilities, the hospitality is excellent. However, I did not feel the service was at that level, and I especially found the check-in response quite questionable. As someone mentioned in a Review, there was no explanation at all about the club floor or breakfast. That said, I did not particularly notice the age of the Facilities; the Room felt clean, and I really appreciated the cheerful greetings from the housekeeping staff. The stay was comfortable and relaxing, and I am grateful for that. Thank you very much.

This was my first stay, and the location was very convenient for getting to Sapporo Station as well as Odori and Susukino. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were kind, so I had a very comfortable stay. The lounge on the 4th floor was also quiet, with tasty snacks and drinks always available, so I could stop by and relax between shopping trips. The only thing that concerned me was the smell of the shower curtain in the Room bathroom. Since I had a Multiple Night Stay, I thought it might be noticed during cleaning on the second day, but it remained unchanged—so is that smell normal? Everything else was excellent, which made this one point especially disappointing. After looking into it, it seems there are various Room types, so next time I will make a Reservation for a type with a separate bathroom. I would also like to stay a bit longer and enjoy the bar as well.

All of the staff were very attentive, and we had a comfortable stay. The building is undeniably old, but it has been well covered by the renovations, so we were satisfied. Overall, the property was kept clean. The only disappointing point was during happy hour in the lounge: when the bottle of Yoichi ran out, we waited assuming it would be replaced with a new one. After a while, a staff member came to clear it away, but it was not replenished afterward. I believe it was still around 7:30 PM. We would like to stay again if we have the opportunity. Thank you in advance.

The Hotel has a lovely, classic atmosphere throughout. The check-in service was excellent, and I was glad I chose to stay at the Grand Hotel.

I had always dreamed of staying at this Hotel, but I hope both the facilities and service will improve.

■Reservation & Room I chose the Classic Room because I admired that Chef Mikuni trained here. The furnishings are chic and create a calm atmosphere. However, the room felt small, and the bathroom in particular was extremely cramped with a three-piece unit bath that reminded me of a Business Hotel. There was no vanity mirror in the room, so I couldn’t do my makeup in natural light, yet the bathroom had no space to lay out a makeup pouch and the lighting was dim, which was inconvenient. Amenities were provided, but considering today’s focus on sustainability, it might be better to let guests select only what they need in the lobby or similar area. ■Reservation & Cancellation I considered booking directly through the official website to support the Hotel, but despite claiming a “best rate,” booking via IKYU was cheaper thanks to its 20% Point Discount, so I made my Reservation through IKYU. Due to a typhoon, I had to Cancel one night at short notice. I understand as a rule that an 80% Cancellation Fee was charged according to policy. However, perhaps due to dynamic pricing, last-minute rates had dropped, and my Cancellation Fee ended up exceeding the full room rate for booking the same room one day before arrival. Once you enter the cancellation-fee period (one week prior), you can’t rebook even if prices drop. It left me feeling uneasy realizing this system penalizes those who plan ahead and book early—whether they go or not. ■Service & Breakfast The front desk staff were Japanese, but check-in took an unexplained amount of time. Despite waiting that long, there was no basic guidance such as checkout time (which should have been extended with Diamond member benefits) or directions to the breakfast venue. With many international tourists present, it felt like staff were overwhelmed and unable to keep up. The breakfast selection was extensive in quantity, but each item’s quality did not feel particularly high and it fell short of expectations. ■Overall Overall, there were few moments where I felt genuine hospitality. My expectations were high given this Hotel’s long history; however, both service and Facility did not seem commensurate with the price. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return.

    A safe and reliable accommodation.

As this is a historic Hotel, I was really looking forward to my stay. The Facilities were well maintained, and everything was thoroughly cleaned. It also had great access from the station, making it convenient for getting anywhere. I only wished the club lounge hours were a bit longer.

    It was great after all.

I stayed here once quite a while ago, and I’d been hoping to return the next time I came to Sapporo. As expected, it was great again. The main building is wonderful. The elevator area, corridors, Room—even the clock—had a lovely classic atmosphere. And the elevators arrive quickly! One thing: although I was shown to my Room, it was my first time having to carry my own luggage (it wasn’t much, but other hotels usually help). The location is convenient, and breakfast was delicious—there was soup curry, and even apple pie. Also, it was disappointing that all the hairdryer settings had the same airflow strength. I wanted to relax in the Room longer, but I’ll visit again next time.

    Highly satisfying lounge service!

I stayed here to enjoy the lounge, and the executive lounge exceeded my expectations. The drinks, sweets, and savory items were all high quality with a great selection, and the calm atmosphere made it even better. In the Room, there were two sets each of four different types of towels—more than enough for a solo stay. I also appreciated the lavender bath salts and the comfortable bedding. It was also easy to access from Sapporo Station via an underground passageway, so I arrived without getting wet in the rain or getting lost. It was convenient for going out to nearby Facilities around the station as well. The only drawbacks were that it has a unit bath and that there was slightly limited information about lounge access. Even so, overall satisfaction was high, and this is a Hotel I can recommend to anyone who prioritizes lounge access near Sapporo Station.

    Staying for lounge access purposes

I stayed for two nights because I was looking forward to the lounge. By chance, it wasn’t crowded, so I was able to relax and take my time. (I may have spent more time unwinding in the lounge than staying in the small Room.) All of the Hotel-made savory items, sweets, bread, etc. were delicious. The convenient location with direct underground access from Sapporo Station was also a big plus. If you want to fully enjoy your Hotel stay, I recommend booking a Room with lounge access!

    The lounge is wonderful.

During what seemed to be the Lilac Festival, hotel rates were soaring for the weekend, so after much thought I booked a Room with club lounge access—something I normally wouldn’t choose. Whenever I visited, there was the Grand Hotel’s signature apple pie and ice cream, plus a great selection of locally made Hokkaido alcohol. It wasn’t crowded, and the clientele was in a completely different league from the lounge at a certain U.S.-based chain Hotel. It was expensive, but the quality was outstanding and it was fantastic.

    Executive Floor Stay

We visited for the Snow Festival and stayed with my wife on the Executive Floor, which I’d been curious about for a while. The Executive Lounge location wasn’t explained in the Room or on any card, so I was a bit confused at first. At tea time, foreign guests were freely helping themselves to beer and wine from the fridge, but I hesitated and stuck to coffee and soft drinks. (I did enjoy the ice cream with apple pie—delicious.) At cocktail time, I had wine and sparkling wine, and also tried Croft gin. It was unusual that there was no tonic water, so I had it on the rocks instead. I really liked the half-bottle Hokkaido wine. There were various snacks and everything was tasty; my favorite was the handmade blue cheese. If they sold Hokkaido wine and that blue cheese at the shop, I would have liked to buy them. There is also a Plan with breakfast included. Since I enjoyed the Japanese breakfast last time, I chose that Plan again and had Japanese cuisine—it was as delicious as ever. I also took a quick look at the breakfast lounge, but breakfast in the lounge is more of a light meal. If I have another chance, I’d like to book an Executive Floor Plan again—but if I’m meeting friends, I can’t make use of cocktail time, so it might feel like a waste.

    Reliable and secure

From the first contact, I left my luggage twice and the service was excellent. The Facility is old but clean. Breakfast let me fully enjoy Sapporo, Hokkaido. This may be difficult, but here is a suggestion. For breakfast: Sapporo ramen and jingisukan (grilled mutton). Rather than sticking to the usual breakfast concept, I suggest offering a “Enjoy Sapporo at Sapporo Grand Hotel” experience.

An Accommodation that embodies tradition and elegance

I stayed for one night with a breakfast-included Plan. This was my second time staying on the GRAND IN GRAND floor, and I was especially impressed by the high quality of the club lounge. Compared to my previous visit, the club lounge service felt even more refined. The room was also impeccably cleaned, making for a very comfortable stay. In particular, during turndown service, they thoughtfully prepared new slippers and ice before I even had to ask—attention to detail like this truly stood out. As expected of a first-class Hotel! Thank you very much.

    Everything was excellent!

The Room had a separate bath and toilet, and there were two sinks, so the two of us could stay comfortably. The Japanese breakfast was delicious, and it was quiet as well. The buffet had so many tasty options that we ended up eating too much, and we were able to fully enjoy Hokkaido. The Hokkaido Government Red Brick Office is very close by, and the Clock Tower is also nearby. Even though it was a bit difficult to walk due to my bad legs, we were able to take our time getting around.

    It was excellent.

I stayed for three nights with my daughter to attend a live concert, and other family members stayed for one night. The service and meals were excellent. The layout of the toilet and washbasin area was a slight concern, but we had a comfortable stay. My father used to stay here regularly years ago, which brought back fond memories. When I visit Sapporo again, I would definitely like to stay here.

The Executive Lounge was quiet and pleasant.

This was my second stay this year, and once again the front desk staff were courteous and helpful at check-in. This time I stayed in a Deluxe Double (Non-Smoking) on the Executive Floor. Aside from the toilet and vanity area, the room—including storage—was thoughtfully designed and very functional. The round jet bath in the room was compact, but more than sufficient for one person. The Executive Lounge on the 4th floor of the East Wing has no windows and subdued lighting, creating a calm atmosphere. It may come down to personal preference, but it’s well suited for guests who want to spend time quietly. Services were well organized by time slot: Morning Time (8:00–10:00), Tea Time (10:00–12:00), Afternoon Tea Time (12:00–17:00), and Happy Hour (17:00–21:00). Breakfast was a Japanese/Western buffet at Northern Terrace Diner from 6:30, with a fairly wide selection, allowing me to enjoy a relaxed meal in the morning. There was also an IKYU.com Diamond Member benefit of late check-out (normally 11:00 → 12:00), which made for an unhurried stay. PS 1) I hope to see the French restaurant “Grand Chef,” which I used often when I was younger, return someday. 2) Given current conditions, the Accommodation Fee is relatively reasonable for a Hotel of this class (which is greatly appreciated as a guest).
