Enjoy a skin-beautifying Onsen while taking in the Shima River flowing below and the fresh breath of the surrounding trees.

Shima Onsen, a historic hot spring resort, has thrived as a place of healing. The mineral-rich Onsen water enhances skin elasticity, radiance, and clarity. The gentle murmur of the Shima River provides a tranquil atmosphere.

  • After descending from the mountains on the second night of my two-night stay in Shima Onsen—somewhere I had long wanted to visit—I stayed at this Accommodation. It is located in a quiet area, and the beautiful views of the Shima River from both the Room and the baths, along with the excellent spring quality and comfortable temperatures, made me very satisfied. The three large public baths were each enjoyable. The proprietress’s picture-story show and talk, which she has continued for 33 years, were skillful, fun, soothing, and highly recommended. The staff were also polite and very pleasant, providing attentive hospitality throughout. This is one Accommodation I would like to stay at again.

  • I visited again with my elderly parents. When staying at various Accommodations, we choose a Room with a free-flowing hot spring bath so that my parents, who are unsteady on their feet and feel uneasy about large public baths, can bathe safely and comfortably. At Yamaguchikan,if you stay in the Special Room with a bath, you can enjoy delicious meals in a private dining room at a relaxed pace. What I especially love is the excellent value for money—this price for an in-room free-flowing hot spring bath with such wonderful water quality! The view from the large window of our riverside Room this time was also outstanding, and it looks like it would be enjoyable in every season, so my parents say they want to stay at Yamaguchikan again.Another highlight is that all the staff greet you with warm smiles and kind service, making every stay truly pleasant.

Proud Onsen, large public bath and open-air bath

Shima Yamaguchi-kan offers seven different baths. Each bath has its own unique features, allowing you to fully enjoy a "bath-hopping" experience. Shima Onsen, which has flourished as a therapeutic hot spring area since ancient times, is said to be effective for gastrointestinal diseases, rheumatism, musculoskeletal disorders, wounds, and more. It is also believed that the name "Shima Onsen" comes from its ability to cure 40,000 (Shima) illnesses. Recent studies have revealed that the waters of Shima Onsen have been springing forth for over 60 years. Rich in minerals, this Onsen is known to remove waste products from the body, enhance skin clarity, and contains fruit acids, a component highly regarded in the beauty industry.

Benefits of Shima Onsen

Onsen has three main benefits. First, the components in Onsen provide elasticity, luster, and clarity to the skin. Second, through heat, water pressure, and buoyancy, it activates internal organ functions, relieves muscle tension, and promotes fatigue recovery. Third, Shima Onsen, blessed with water, greenery, and Onsen, contains many negative ions, offering mental stability and tranquility.
