Hiramatsu’s first urban luxury Hotel, inspired by the design of traditional Kyoto townhouses.

THE HIRAMATSU Kyoto was born on Muromachi Street in Nakagyo Ward, the heart of Kyoto—an area dotted with long-established shops and convenient for sightseeing. A traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse, steeped in the city’s history and culture, has been given new value and reborn as an urban luxury Hotel. The Hotel features a kappo restaurant and a restaurant, and offers 29 spacious guest rooms where you can relax despite being in the city center. The design was supervised by Nakamura Sotoji Komuten of Kyoto, renowned in Japan and abroad as a leading workshop for sukiya-style architecture.

  • When I stayed three years ago, the lobby was spacious and check-in felt relaxed, and the drinks in the Room refrigerator were well stocked and free. This time, following COVID and the increase in Kyoto’s Accommodation Tax, breakfast has been simplified, and the free drinks have moved to the lounge with set hours. However, it feels more casual now, which I also liked. Since we had a Multiple Night Stay with two Rooms, we requested the hearty Italian course breakfast once. For Italian in Kyoto, we chose breakfast here. The simple breakfast buffet was great on days when our schedule was packed. A large buffet with too many options can feel like a hassle in the morning sometimes. What I like about mornings here is that you can take your time and relax.

  • I think this Accommodation is perfect for a stay during the Gion Festival. I also enjoyed both the Italian and Japanese cuisine.Watching a maiko dance during my stay became a wonderful memory—thank you very much.It seems that, in exchange for opening the lounge, the drinks in the refrigerator have been limited to mineral water only. However, because the lounge has short opening hours, it was not very convenient. I usually stay at Hiramatsu-level Accommodations, but this was the first time I had to buy sparkling mineral water at a convenience store during my stay. That said, it is still a great Accommodation, and I would be happy to stay again.

This 120-year-old machiya was once a historic kimono fabric wholesaler. Original features such as the pillars, ceiling beams, and front latticework still remain. While preserving the traditional layout—front house, tsuboniwa courtyard garden, inner courtyard, and storehouse—it also blends seamlessly with modern architecture.
