The Largest Museum of the Maruyama Ōkyo School: [Daijōji Temple]
Daijoji Temple, also known as Okyoji Temple, is the largest museum of the Maruyama Okyo school, the founder of Japanese painting in the mid-Edo period.
It is famous for its stunning fusuma paintings by Maruyama Okyo and Nagasawa Rosetsu.
While the originals have been stored in a repository, all original works are now on display for the first time in 13 years to commemorate Chief Priest Hasebe of Daijoji Temple being appointed as the 415th administrative head of Mount Koya.
Okyo stayed at Daijoji during his youth and, as an act of gratitude, led his disciples to create fusuma paintings for the temple.
This story has inspired many visitors from The whole country to come here for acts of gratitude or pilgrimage.
We warmly invite you to visit during this special occasion!
