“Sawando” means “a place where rivers meet.” In December 1998, Onsen water was brought to this area—long used as a gateway to Kamikochi—and Sawando Onsen was born. Our inn opened five years later, in July 2003. Surrounded by mountains and little else, Keiryuso Shiorie warmly welcomes you. We hope you will enjoy the nature, unwind from everyday fatigue, celebrate an anniversary with someone special, or treat yourself for all your hard work—we would be truly happy if you choose Shiorie for moments like these.

  • Highly satisfied.

    Both the Room and the entire Accommodation were clean, and we had a very comfortable stay. The Onsen warmed us through to the core and helped relieve our travel fatigue. The meals were a delight both visually and in taste, and the steak in particular was outstanding. We had no contact with other guests, making it a quiet, relaxing space. Conversations with the staff were also pleasant, and we were very satisfied. We would love to visit again in a different season.

  • A long-awaited stay

    I had wanted to stay at this Ryokan for a long time, but the timing never worked out—until now. Because it’s a small Accommodation, I never ran into other guests in the large public bath during my stay and was able to use it almost privately, which was very comfortable. The in-room Facility and complimentary drinks were also well stocked and popular with my family. The food we came for exceeded expectations and was outstanding—especially the deep-fried fish, which was exceptional. The selection of alcohol, including sake and highballs, was carefully curated as well. I was especially happy to find hone-zake (sake warmed with grilled fish bones), which is rare even at high-end Ryokan. The service was excellent too, so I’d love to return if I have the chance.

[From Kanto Area] Approximately 32 km from Matsumoto IC on the Nagano Expressway via National Route 158 towards Kamikochi. Travel time: about 50 minutes.
[From Kansai/Nagoya Area] Approximately 70 km from Hida-Kiyomi IC on the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway via National Route 158 towards Matsumoto. Travel time: about 1.5 hours.

■ By Public Transportation
1. From JR Chuo Line Matsumoto Station, take the Matsumoto Electric Railway Kamikochi Line to Shin-Shimashima Station, then transfer to a bus bound for Kamikochi (40 minutes). Get off at Sawando Bus Terminal and walk for 5 minutes.

2. From the bus terminal in front of JR Matsumoto Station, take a direct express bus to Takayama (65 minutes). Get off at Sawando Bus Stop and walk for 5 minutes.

3. From Takayama Bus Center in front of JR Takayama Station, take a direct express bus to Matsumoto (80 minutes). Get off at Sawando Bus Stop and walk for 5 minutes.
