  • We stayed as a family to celebrate my husband’s retirement after 44 years of service. For more than 40 years, since I first came to Tokyo, “Tsubaki” has been featured as one of Japan’s leading Accommodations—highly praised for its atmosphere, outstanding cuisine, and heartfelt hospitality. I have long hoped to visit for a milestone celebration, and that day finally came. From the very first bite, our whole family was amazed by how delicious the dashi was—we couldn’t help but gasp in admiration. We were instantly captivated by every dish created by the head chef. We were also delighted to be seen off and to have a brief chance to speak with him. We are already looking forward to the next meal.Equally exceptional were the two attendants who took care of our Room. Not only their graceful manner, but also their conversation and attentiveness in every detail showed true consideration. I was deeply impressed by their professionalism—far beyond mere formality. It is no exaggeration to say that the head chef’s superb cuisine and the attendants’ heartfelt professional service are what make today’s “Tsubaki” what it is.We have already made a Reservation for autumn in the same Room for another life celebration. If we could be looked after by the same attendants again, nothing would make us happier.Looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiles again gives me motivation each day. Thank you very much for taking such wonderful care of us during our stay.

  • As we did last year, we stayed for one night with our elderly parents. Our Room had an open-air bath, and my 94-year-old father, who loves baths, enjoyed the Onsen to the fullest and went in many times. The meals were delicious—and there was more than we could finish! My husband especially loved the white rice and had seconds from the morning; he must have eaten about five bowls. This year, I tried looking for camellias at Tsubaki inside Kaiseiki.I hope we can visit again next year.

Onsen & Bath

Yugawara Onsen is the only Onsen mentioned in Japan’s oldest anthology of poetry, the “Manyoshu.” Its clear, colorless, gentle waters are a sodium/calcium chloride–sulfate spring that moisturizes the skin and warms you to the core. Enjoy these beloved waters—cherished since the Manyoshu era—at the bathhouse or in your Room while taking in the beauty of every season.

[Okuyugawara Onsen Kaiseki Tsubaki] Introducing Our 2026 Summer Menu

At Okuyugawara Onsen Kaiseki Tsubaki, we have been offering our summer menu since June.
This summer’s theme is “A Cool Breeze Crossing the Valley.”
Each dish reflects the refreshing breeze that sweeps through the Okuyugawara gorge and the charm of a summer mountain village.
With the scent of fresh green maple leaves and sweetfish in the air,
we invite you to relax in the slightly cooler Okuyugawara breeze, soothe your everyday fatigue, and enjoy a moment that renews your energy for tomorrow.

    * Serving period: June–August 2026
    * Menu items may change depending on market availability.
    * Photos are for illustrative purposes only.

Here is a glimpse of our menu.
For grilled dishes, we serve salt-grilled sweetfish from Yamakita—raised in the clear streams of the Tanzawa mountain range and quickly grilled while still fresh from our outdoor live fish tank.
We hope you will feel a touch of coolness like a riverside in summer.
Our main dish is “Chilled Shabu-Shabu with Yonezawa Beef.”
We prepare two house-made dipping sauces along with spicy miso to accompany this premium wagyu, counted among Japan’s three great wagyu brands.
We especially recommend wrapping the beef with our house-made sauce featuring grated yam mixed with summer vegetables and enjoying it as is.

In addition, we offer many other seasonal dishes designed to bring you a sense of summer refreshment.
We look forward to welcoming you—please come and enjoy them to your heart’s content.
