    Kids’ Paradise

There was a large play area with a train set, a xylophone, and many other activities, and our child played to the fullest from check-in until we left. We enjoyed board games with our child while having drinks and snacks, and time flew by for the adults too. We chose the breakfast-only plan, but there were so many options that it was hard to decide—one hour wasn’t enough. If I had a bigger appetite, I would have loved to try everything! In the basement play area, a child around four years old seemed to be lost, and it was difficult going up and down the stairs to inform the front desk. It would be convenient if there were a phone there that connects directly to reception.

The ultimate choice for family trips with kids!

I’d seen this place on Instagram and had been wanting to visit someday, so we came during spring break with our 4-year-old! From the moment we arrived at the Accommodation, the lobby felt so luxurious that my husband even asked, “Is this really the right Hotel?” Maybe because it was a weekday and there were vacancies, they upgraded us for free from a Classic Twin to an Executive Twin. The Room was spotless, refined, and spacious—our excitement instantly shot up! The play area goes without saying—our daughter was thrilled and played nonstop until dinner. She must have worked up an appetite because she really enjoyed the evening buffet. She usually doesn’t eat much meat, but it must have been delicious—she kept going back for more! We’re both in our 40s and even we went around three times! The desserts were great too, with a donut buffet and even making cotton candy—our daughter was delighted. We went to the bath around 8 p.m.; it wasn’t crowded and the water temperature was perfect—amazing! The only downside was that amenities (cleansing oil and skincare items) were only available in the large public bath area, so it was inconvenient having to go there again in the morning. All of the staff were kind, and our daughter loved being allowed to stay up late at the night lounge. On the drive home she kept saying she wants to come again, which made us feel it was well worth staying here! Next time we’ll visit again around summer. Thank you very much!

Be amazed by the stunning Southern Alps and Mt. Fuji!

On the way to the Hotel, we stopped by Yamataka Jindai Zakura and were moved by the cherry blossoms in full bloom as we drove through the mountains, but the entrance to the Hotel was hard to find and we ended up going into Kai-Oizumi Station. It was still light out, so it was fine, but I would appreciate it if the sign could be made a bit larger. The weather on check-in day was perfectly clear, and from our Room we enjoyed a wonderful view of the Southern Alps and Mt. Fuji. With stargazing and children’s play equipment, this felt like a very family-friendly Hotel. For just the two of us as a couple, it was a little too lively at times, but next time we think it would be fun to come with our grandchildren. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner with a wide variety of dishes. The complimentary drinks included alcohol such as wine and whisky, which we also enjoyed very much. It became an unforgettable birthday celebration for me. The front desk staff were also very pleasant. Thank you very much.

Even with a same-day Reservation, the service was excellent.

On a recent trip that came together at the last minute, I stayed at your Hotel with a same-day Reservation. Despite the short notice, your staff welcomed me smoothly and warmly, for which I am truly grateful. The sense of reassurance I felt the moment I arrived spoke volumes about the high quality of your brand. Overall, it was a highly satisfying stay; however, precisely because this is such an excellent Hotel, there were a few areas where I felt that improvements could make the experience even more perfect. With the expectations of a returning guest in mind, I would like to offer the following three suggestions. 1. Optimize the placement and flow of the amenities bar Many Hotels now use an amenities-bar setup, but at your Hotel I noticed that items are not grouped in one place. Specifically, toothbrushes and hairbrushes seem to be located separately from skincare items such as toner and cotton pads. These days, not only women but also many men routinely use skincare products. Rather than separating areas by gender or purpose, could you consider grouping these items together in one location as “washroom and hygiene essentials”? This would reduce unnecessary back-and-forth for guests and make the stay feel even more seamless. 2. Seating management and comfort in the executive lounge I was very satisfied with both the atmosphere of the lounge and the quality of the beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). However, because guests are diverse, I feel there is room to refine operations during busy times. If possible, please consider introducing a Reservation system or implementing seating “zoning.” For example, simply separating a quiet area for solo guests or couples from an area where groups or families can enjoy themselves more lively would allow everyone to relax without hesitation. I hope you will continue creating an environment where all guest types can unwind at their own pace. 3. Expand the food selection in the lounge Because your drink lineup is excellent, I honestly found it slightly disappointing that there were relatively few snack/light food options to pair with them. Adding just 2–4 more choices on top of what you currently offer would dramatically improve satisfaction in the lounge. Please consider strengthening variety—for example finger foods featuring local specialties or snacks that pair well with alcohol.

    Overall, it was good.

Overall, it was very good. I traveled with my grandchild, so it was very family-friendly and we had a wonderful trip. One concern was the buffet: many women followed the line properly and it wasn’t an issue, but some men cut in even when there was a queue, and the way they served themselves left the area messy, which was disappointing. I reserved a kids’ room, and since this was my daughter’s third stay she was really looking forward to it, but it was just a standard twin room with only a child’s step stool and a child toilet seat provided. My daughter said these items can be borrowed by asking the front desk, so she wondered why it is advertised as a “kids’ room.”

    Recommended for families with children.

Recommended for families with children in elementary school or younger who want a lively, fun stay. It may not be suitable for adults looking to relax and unwind, as it can feel too busy and may leave you more tired.

    Family-friendly

What I liked There are large play structures and toys, making it ideal for families with small children. It was wonderful that we could do stargazing—there aren’t many Hotels like that. Dinner is buffet-style, so you can choose what you like. I was also happy that strawberries were all-you-can-eat. What I didn’t like I heard from another family on a Multiple Night Stay that dinner is the same every day, so they got tired of it. There was a tough-looking cook wearing earrings. He kept telling guests several things at once like “we don’t have that” and “please get this,” which was irritating. It can’t be helped due to the Onsen water quality, but the open-air bath water smells strongly of chlorine. The sauna is small. At check-in, the front desk gets crowded and you may have to wait quite a while. Breakfast and dinner are split into three time slots, but it gets extremely crowded and feels chaotic. When meal service is nearing its end time, staff politely rush you along. There is an area only executive guests can enter. This time we stayed as a family of four on Saturday and Sunday. Overall: weekends and holidays are extremely crowded, but it’s perfect for letting kids play. Nothing happened that rose to the level of making a complaint—that’s about it.

A lot of systems have changed since last year!

As we did last year, we booked a 2-night, 3-day stay through IKYU again this year. There were several changes compared with our previous visit, such as the new Forest Lounge and the dining system where you choose a time slot at check-in and meals are served in shifts. In the past, the lounge was so crowded that there were no seats at check-in and we couldn’t sit at all, so I think it’s great that more seating has been added to help spread guests out. Even though it was a three-day holiday weekend, we were able to find seats every day and enjoy a relaxing snack time. For both dinner and breakfast, the shift-based time slots also significantly reduced waiting times. However, if you arrive late, you may not be able to get your preferred time slot, so first-time guests should keep this in mind. The latest dinner slot is 19:20–21:20, and this time we were told by the front desk that only that slot was available. I felt that would be difficult for families traveling with small babies. While the building does show its age, it’s still a wonderful place where you can have fun to your heart’s content without being affected by the weather—our kids were thrilled! We’d love to visit again next year. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

This trip was for a ...

This trip was for a family birthday. We also visited Nasu at year-end, and since the kids loved it, this time we chose Yatsugatake. The Shuttle Service bus from the nearest Kai-Oizumi Station can be full, and you may not be able to board. It’s within walking distance, but with luggage and children, the bus is more convenient. On the return trip, perhaps because it was long after check-out, we were the only passengers. A dedicated check-in link had been sent by email, but I couldn’t use it properly and ended up doing a standard check-in. At check-in, I had to write not only my (the representative’s) name but also my family members’ names. If this could be entered in advance during Reservation, it would save time. The Facility opened earlier than the stated start time, which was great because the kids could start playing as soon as we arrived. Snacks in the 3rd-floor lounge also started earlier than expected, which I appreciated; however, since breakfast and dinner have fixed times, I would prefer snacks to start from 15:00 as well. We traveled from morning through early afternoon without lunch, so the kids ate too many snacks in the lounge. As a result they barely ate dinner and we had to leave early. The same thing happened in Nasu at year-end too, so it wasn’t entirely unexpected… Both on our stay day and the next day, the same staff member was working in the lounge. They removed items for refilling right when I was about to take some (even when about half remained), and sighed while looking at a line for drinks. It felt unwelcoming at times, which was disappointing. It was described as “Japanese-modern,” so based on photos I expected a newly renovated Room. In reality it wasn’t; pillars and sliding doors showed their age. However, since our Room was on the 2nd floor where both Onsen and meals were located as well, moving around was very convenient. I also noticed many long-standing stains on areas like corridor floors and around Onsen lockers. With restrictions on times and locations for meals and drinks overall، I felt it could be difficult to truly relax. That said، the kids fully enjoyed the large play area—which met our expectations.

A popular Accommodation with many returning guests

As a Hotel that likely has the most child-friendly Facilities in Japan, most guests are families. Watching check-in, it’s clear there are many repeat visitors—many already know the child-friendly Facilities on the basement floor can be used from one hour before check-in. But that isn’t a bad thing; the staff handle it smoothly, and even though it must be demanding for the dining staff, they remain cheerful and efficient. The gentleman at the very popular grilled shabu station left a particularly great impression. Of course, it was delicious as well. Thank you very much. The Room and bath had no issues at all—in fact, we were extremely satisfied. The Executive Lounge also had excellent dried fruit: cherries, peaches, and apples—an impressive selection unique to this area. When I mentioned this was a birthday trip for my daughter and grandchild, we even received a card and gifts. That made us very happy. My only request is that the size range of the in-house loungewear be expanded a bit more to accommodate more guests, including children. Thank you very much again.

It was a fun trip with our grandchildren (toddlers). There were so many people, and because everyone arrived around check-in time, some guests couldn’t even find a seat in the club lounge, which was unfortunate. We also only realized later that there was another lounge area a little farther away. Securing seats for meals was very difficult. Since the dining area is split into two sections, having to walk around to find seats ourselves was hard with small children. It felt like there weren’t enough staff during meal times to keep things running smoothly. However, there were plenty of ways to play inside the Hotel, so it was the perfect playground for the kids. Seeing how much they enjoyed themselves made us very happy, and we were able to make wonderful memories. Thank you very much.

    We stayed for one ni...

We stayed for one night on a weekday during the off-season. Since about 90% of the guests were families with children, we didn’t have to worry too much about crying or noise, and it felt like everyone was understanding. The indoor play area was high quality, and after check-in it was great that everything—from playtime to meals and baths—could be done entirely within the Hotel. However, the Room felt old and did not seem well cleaned. There were large clumps of dust in the corners, as well as hair and snack-wrapper crumbs on the floor, which was very disappointing. The air in the Room also felt dusty, and both children and adults couldn’t stop sneezing. Also, it seemed that cleaning detergent may have been left on the sink; when I touched it while using the sink, my fingers started tingling and my skin turned white, which shocked me. We didn’t choose an executive guest room because we were traveling with children, but those Rooms appear to have been renovated in 2024. Even if you don’t plan to use the executive lounge, that type of Room may be cleaner.

    Family Trip

We decided to travel the day before and ended up staying here at the last minute!\nWhat made us choose this Accommodation was the well-equipped kids’ play facilities, the all-inclusive plan, and the Onsen.\nWe made a Reservation for a twin Room for two adults and three children (ages 7, 5, and 0), and it was more than enough with an extra bed and a baby crib available!\nOverall, it was really great!!\nThe play area was very spacious, and our first-grader and kindergartener had a lot of fun!\nThere were also plenty of baby items provided.\nThe Onsen was great, and the buffet had a wide variety of options.\nBest of all, drinks were available unlimited for most of the day.\nEven after checkout at 11:00 the next day, rooms where you can play board games or with BRIO trains were still open, so we could stay until 13:00!\nIf I had to mention one area for improvement: to get to the play area in the Forest Lounge on the 3rd floor there are only stairs, so you have to carry a stroller. It would be even better if there were a ramp.\nBut other than that we were very satisfied, and we’d love to come again next year!!

    Kids will be delighted.

We stayed as three generations. It was a Sunday night stay, and the parking lot was full and very crowded with families. We made a Reservation for a suite Room; it was spacious and nice, but the property does feel a bit dated. We could see Mt. Fuji from the Room, and the view was wonderful. On B1, “Mori no 8” was a big hit with our kids—they played there almost the entire stay except for meals, baths, and sleep. Some children don’t follow the rules, and sometimes parents are on their phones and not watching them, so conflicts can happen. The “Forest Lounge” on the 3rd floor felt stuffy, and there were snacks scattered on the floor, so we didn’t want to stay long—but there were several fun-looking toys. The buffet satisfied the kids, but for adults it felt just okay. If you plan to drink a lot of alcohol it may be fine, but the food is average. The executive lounge has limited hours, but it was good. It’s calm at night; in the early evening kids can be noisy, so it’s hard to relax. Overall, it feels somewhat old. The toilets in both our Room and shared areas are especially dated—I’d like to see them renovated. I’ve stayed at Grand Mercure in Okinawa before; there we could have drinks and snacks all day, so I felt that having time limits here was a bit disappointing.

    With my grandchild

We traveled with our children and grandchild as a three-generation family trip. We were very satisfied and had a wonderful time. Although dining was scheduled by time slots, we enjoyed the delicious meals without any concern. Best of all, I didn’t have to tell my grandchild to “be quiet.” The Hakushu prepared so carefully by the sommelier in the Executive Lounge was excellent. The Onsen was pleasantly quiet—perhaps we went at a slightly different time—so we could relax and soak at ease. We also contacted you about lunch and a lost item, and your kind support made it a happy memory through to the end. Thank you very much.

    Friendly and attentive service

We stayed over the three-day weekend in February. I’ve also visited other Hotels in the same group, and Yatsugatake stands out for its high-quality dining and service. As other reviews have already mentioned, the Facilities are more than sufficient for families with children, so I’ll keep that part brief—there was more than enough, and we were very satisfied. The staff made a great impression from check-in. There was little waiting at any step, so it was stress-free. Everyone kept smiling. In the dining area, they moved efficiently and were very polite. It was genuinely pleasant to watch. There was also a birthday celebration held during dinner time, and the way they involved the whole room with their announcements was wonderful. I’ll mention my complaints as well—these are why I didn’t give 5 stars: One is cleaning, and one is about the cleaning staff (foreign staff from Asia). Cleaning: Please clean the Room air conditioner filters. They were so dusty that we stopped using it. *Other than that, everything was clean throughout, and we didn’t feel any age or wear at all. Cleaning staff: We were taking a nap during the day, but loud noises came through when they cleaned the next Room over—sounding like items being thrown against the wall—and it woke us up. (In fact, our older child came down with gastroenteritis during the trip and we spent most of our time in our Room.) Overall, we feel it’s a Hotel we’d like to visit again, so we will be back. *Around some of the play Rooms on the 3rd floor: since there still seem to be Rooms available, I hope you can open up more Rooms and add more activities as well. Recommended for families with children and for three-generation family trips. *I won’t say who, but we saw two celebrity groups as well—it made sense to me that this is a Hotel people like that would choose.

    Family-Friendly Accommodation

There are lots of small children. With plenty of play areas, it seems they have a great time. That said, guests without children may find it a bit less relaxing. The Executive Lounge was nicer and felt more upscale than the Forest Lounge. (Still, it doesn’t quite match the standard of typical hotel lounges.) I enjoyed the meals, with many local specialties. The staff were also very pleasant. Compared with other Mercure properties, I liked that there are many places to relax at a leisurely pace, including the lounge. However, it can be lively because children run around. If you’re not traveling as a family, it may be best to stay only if you’re comfortable with that.

This Hotel was exceptionally considerate of families with children and elderly guests!

We chose a Multiple Night Stay partly because of the large indoor athletic play area, and our child was thrilled and played without getting bored. They seemed very satisfied, so we’d love to visit again if we have the chance! There’s also a laundry room, which was a huge help—we didn’t have to worry about doing laundry. Just one request: if possible, we would appreciate having combs available in the women’s bath, and hair ties as well.

I enjoyed it on my own.

I love Mercure. I had read that Yatsugatake is mostly for families with children, but I still enjoyed my stay as a solo traveler—thank you. Here are my personal tips for making the most of it: - Stay in an Executive Room and enjoy relaxing in your Room as well. You can see Mt. Fuji from the Room, so take time to appreciate it at dusk and early in the morning. - Plan with families’ schedules in mind: let guests with children go first, then take your time. (Use the club lounge and dining at later hours; go to the Onsen earlier instead.) - Watch over young parents traveling with children with kindness. If a child comes up to you, just chat naturally and enjoy the conversation. Unique highlights of this Hotel: - The Onsen had a rain-shower booth, which made it easy to unwind. - The bathroom wall in the Room could be moved, so you could see Mt. Fuji from the bathtub (and the tub was spacious). I also thought it would be nice if everyone could use the club lounge in front of the Hotel front desk. Especially in the morning, sunlight pours in beautifully; while breakfast is enjoyable, taking your time there with a cup of tea also feels like a real luxury.

    The best Hotel for children

The well-equipped kids’ area, children’s in-house wear, and amenities were thoughtfully provided, and the kids were delighted. On the other hand, there were a few disappointing points: we had to bring our own towels to the large public bath; bottled water and yukata that are typically expected to be provided in the Room had to be picked up by ourselves; and breakfast was split into two time slots with only 60 minutes available.

The Room was clean, and the entire Hotel was spotless as well. I checked in after having lunch, so I couldn’t fully enjoy the lounge... Next time I visit, I’d like to come with some room in my stomach (haha). The Room walls are a bit thin. I could hear a baby from the next Room at times, but since this is a Hotel with many families, it’s understandable—and honestly, I found it cute. The dining area was crowded, but since you can stay for a long time, we really enjoyed it. The food was delicious! It’s a Hotel where kids truly have fun and parents can’t help but smile. If your top priority is spending time playing at the Hotel, choosing this one will make for a great trip. It’s also excellent value for money. It was just one night and two days, but it made me want to stay another night. Thank you very much!

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

Arriving in the falling snow, we were warmly welcomed with a kotatsu service that truly warmed us up. The bath was very clean, and after bathing, a delicious vinegar drink was provided. Stay overnight.

If you enter Mori no 8 at 1:00 PM, you can enjoy it for about an hour without much crowding, including the Forest Lounge. After about an hour, it gets so crowded that it becomes difficult to relax and enjoy. During busy times, I’d like the Forest Lounge to have a time limit or add more Rooms. If there are no seats available, guests end up spending time in the corners... In guest room baths that haven’t been renovated, it’s hard to adjust the water temperature—sometimes scalding hot water comes out.

Great value for the price, with plenty of fun for kids!

The buffet dining options are wonderful, but this time we stayed without meals. We truly appreciated the play area for our children (ages 8 and 6). The large public bath is also highly recommended, so by checking the play area hours in advance, this Accommodation can be enjoyed to the fullest.

We stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

This time, I was looking for an affordable Accommodation with high satisfaction, and since this Hotel I had been interested in was available for less than my planned budget, I decided to stay. It was all-inclusive, and I had previously stayed at Grand Mercure in Okinawa and enjoyed it, so I chose this one as well. The best part for me was that the wine served in the lounge and at dinner came from a winery in Yamanashi. I was truly surprised because it’s rare to find an Accommodation offering wine of this quality at this price. My wife and I really enjoyed it together. Overall, I’m glad we got satisfaction beyond the price. I’d like to stay at other Mercure properties in the future as well. Thank you very much.
