The perfect Hotel for families with children.
We stayed as a family of four with our 2-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. Unfortunately it rained, but it didn’t matter at all—we had a great time. We played until evening, and in the morning we headed straight to Mori no 8 within five minutes of waking up to get moving again. Whenever we called the front desk from our Room or asked questions at the dining venue, the staff were very polite and helpful. The vinegar drinks after the bath were also a nice touch—we usually pay for those at public bathhouses, so we really appreciated it. If I had to make a request, my wife said she would like facial cleanser available inside the women’s bath area. After hearing that, I was also disappointed that there wasn’t a ReFa hair dryer in the men’s changing room—even when I checked again on my second visit (laughs). Also, it was hard to hear the in-house announcements at all, so I’d like them to turn up the volume a bit. Overall, though, we were truly satisfied—especially seeing how happy our kids were. During our trip we visited farms and amusement parks and ate lots of kid-friendly food, but when we asked them on the drive home, both said Mori no 8 was the most fun part of all.

Thank you for your continued patronage.
This was not our first stay, and we enjoyed a 3-night Multiple Night Stay at the end of summer vacation. Once again, the play area was a big hit with our children. I wondered if they might get bored after playing for four days, but by the day we left they were saying, “I don’t want to go home—I still want to play!” It seems they had a wonderful time. Both parents and children had another great stay. As for the lounge and premium lounge, there are a few areas that could be improved—such as times when it gets crowded and there are no seats available—but overall we were very satisfied. After staying for three nights this time, one thing stood out to me. At present there are no discounts or perks for Multiple Night Stays, so when staying three nights, I think it would be even better if there were some kind of benefit for longer stays—for example, “discounts for 3 nights or more.” If Multiple Night Stay guests could continue using the play area without it closing at 11:00 (without having to leave), I would feel the current pricing is reasonable; however, even on a Multiple Night Stay you need to leave the Hotel once and then come back again. Of course, regarding Room cleaning: we have no issues at all with the current style—where towels and tea bags (sencha) are basically left in front of the door, and housekeeping will clean upon request. However, because of that, without any perks for Multiple Night Stays, it can sometimes feel like there isn’t much advantage to staying multiple nights. Because this is one of our favorite Hotels that we have used many times, I would be happy if you could consider discounts or perks for guests on Multiple Night Stays in the future. We would love to visit again in another season. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us during these four days.

3rd floor, accommodates 5 guests, “2 beds”
In front of the Room’s glass door was a huge bush blocking the view—no view at all, even worse than zero. If I had known before making the Reservation, I definitely wouldn’t have booked. The meals were good, which was some consolation.

Highly satisfied
Both breakfast and dinner offer a wide variety of options, and we were very satisfied. We felt it would be even better if there were a few more activities for adults.

Kids’ Paradise
Thank you for accepting our same-day Reservation when other Accommodations turned us away. Since we chose this Hotel at short notice, it wasn’t quite ideal for three adults (a university student and a couple), but we still had a comfortable stay. I think it’s the perfect Accommodation for families with small children. If I could make one request, it would be to clean more thoroughly into the corners. The visible areas were clean, but there was dust and dirt in less noticeable places.

The indoor play area was amazing!!
The indoor play area was fantastic. Our child had an absolute blast. The Executive Lounge also had a great atmosphere, and my wife and I were able to spend a wonderful time there. We’d like to come back again even just to enjoy the lounge. The only downside was that at check-in, the parking lot was full and there were no attendants guiding us, so we weren’t sure what we were supposed to do.

Summer Memories
I visited with my daughters and grandchildren to make summer memories. There wasn’t a pool, but there were many Facilities where the grandchildren could play, and they were very happy. They especially enjoyed eating corn in the garden and roasting marshmallows over the campfire—it left a fun, lasting impression. There was a wide variety of food, and everything was delicious. We were very satisfied. I had hoped to see a sky full of stars at night, but unfortunately it was cloudy and we couldn’t. That was the only disappointment. It was a wonderful trip that will stay with us as a summer memory. My grandchild was thrilled and said they would draw it right away in their summer vacation picture diary. Thank you very much.

Disappointed?
This was my third stay at a Mercure Hotel in Yatsugatake. I was reasonably satisfied with the previous two, so I chose Mercure again in Yatsugatake. What was most disappointing—or rather, what still puzzles me—is the check-in experience. At that moment there were no other guests, so I felt lucky and thought it would be quick. But when I stood at the front desk, two male staff members were completely focused on their computers and showed almost no reaction—so much so that I couldn’t tell whether they even noticed me. I wasn’t sure if I should keep waiting or speak up, and just stood there hesitating. Before long, I started wondering if it was somehow my fault for standing there, or if I wasn’t supposed to check in at that time. I don’t know how many minutes passed, but eventually they helped me. I don’t know whether they were busy dealing with a problem, but since a guest was standing there, I feel someone could have acknowledged me in some way. If immediate assistance wasn’t possible, they could have called another staff member or simply said “Please wait a moment.” Even now when it comes to mind, I still wonder what that was all about. Even though I went out of my way to upgrade to a higher Plan for the Room, it wasn’t on the Mt. Fuji view side either. And then the meals: because everyone lines up and enters all at once, it felt like a constant battle to secure seats each time, which didn’t feel pleasant. The other two Mercure Hotels were also very crowded in that regard, but not like this one in Yatsugatake—there we were able to get seated smoothly each time. Maybe those two had some kind of system or arrangement to make seating smoother? These days even hotels other than Mercure offer welcome-drink-style services as well. It made me feel that I don’t really need to choose Mercure anymore. Still, thank you for supporting the Accommodation part of an otherwise enjoyable trip.

Crowded
Just like in the days of the Royal Hotel, it was overcrowded, and the baths were packed. The price wasn’t cheap either due to Obon rates. The only good point is that there are plenty of play areas for children. It’s a good place for families with kids or grandkids. When I made the online Reservation, I mistakenly set my 3-year-old and 2-year-old as “meals included with bedding,” so I was charged the same rate as adults. It was my responsibility to Change the Reservation before the Cancellation Fee applied, so I understand that. However, I did mention this in the Reservation comments section, and there was no response at all, which was disappointing.

We stayed in the Japanese-modern family room with five people across three generations.
We stayed for two nights in a Japanese-modern family Room as a group of five across three generations, including grandparents and an elementary-school child. As it was during the Obon holiday period, the total with breakfast and dinner was close to JPY 250,000. The Room had beds for two plus three floor futons, and it felt a bit tight for five people. Also, on the second night, a fan-like noise continued for several hours late at night, which unfortunately left us short on sleep. The washbasin area was small and located right next to the toilet. There was also a high step at the entrance to the washroom area, giving it an old-fashioned Hotel layout. Since we were traveling with grandparents around 80 years old, we were somewhat worried about falls, especially at night. On the other hand, just as stated on the website, the in-house Facilities for children are excellent. Even on rainy days we had plenty of fun with activities like an indoor athletic area and table tennis. When it cleared up, we could also try outdoor pickleball, which I think became a great memory for the kids. Most guests also seemed to be families with children. Meals were served in two separate venues with a wide variety of dishes available. Everything tasted great and adults were satisfied. There were kids’ options as well, but our child said there were “a lot of sweets and things like popcorn, and not many savory dishes I could eat,” which was a bit disappointing. The Onsen was spacious and relaxing. The open-air bath where you can soak while looking up at the starry sky was especially nice. There were some concerns such as Room size and steps when staying as five across three generations, but because the children’s play areas are so well equipped, I think this is a Hotel where families can enjoy themselves regardless of the weather. Also worth noting: Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Resort is only a short drive from the Hotel, and our kids loved riding the G-Cart that races down the mountain slope.

It seems to attract ...
It seems to attract many families, including those with infants. The food is delicious, and there is a lounge. However, because it gets very crowded, there are lines everywhere: at check-in, at both dinner and breakfast, even inside the buffet venue where it feels like a competition. There are also lines in the bath area—for the changing room and washing stations. The executive lounge is next to the lobby as well, so it doesn’t feel very relaxing. If you check in late, dinner time may overlap and you’ll have almost no time to use the lounge; the next morning you can’t use it at all. There is a kids’ space and table tennis, so guests of various ages can enjoy themselves, making it perfect as an all-weather Facility. In fact, a typhoon hit during our stay, but our daughters (7 and 5) still had a great time even in the rain. That said, because of how crowded it is, some guests don’t follow the rules; parts of the kids’ space can feel unsafe. It would likely be fine if there were fewer people. It may be best to visit with an “amusement park” mindset rather than for relaxation—otherwise you’ll get tired from waiting in line everywhere. Even when we wanted to have a coffee before leaving in the morning, there was another line for breakfast takeout. The lounge was closed as well. The hallway walls and Room doors are thin; you can clearly hear conversations from the corridor—and babies crying continuously. I felt that if capacity were about half of what it is now, this would be a Hotel that everyone could truly enjoy.

A Facility my daughter and son love
Thank you as always for having us. The impressive play equipment and play areas are truly outstanding—unlike anything you’ll find at any other Hotel. Despite the limited staff, we have never once felt dissatisfied with the service. Both the lounge service and the meals offer many items that children love, and we would be delighted to stay with you again in the future.

A Paradise for Families with Children
Most guests were families with children, so we could relax without worrying about disturbing others. The Onsen was average, but they had a ReFa hair dryer, and the mango-vinegar-style drink after bathing was delicious. One thing I noticed was that there was no place in the Onsen changing room to return used towels, so many people left them on top of the lockers; I think it would be better to set up a collection spot. The dining isn’t recommended at all for those who want a quiet, leisurely meal, but everything was very tasty. The Executive Lounge and play areas were truly plentiful and excellent.

Fun for kids and adults alike—everyone will be delighted!
We stayed for 2 nights with 12 people across three generations, using 3 Rooms. Our first impression upon entering the Hotel was that the lobby felt a bit dim, and we wished it were brighter. The breakfast and dinner both offered a wide variety of dishes, were delicious, and we were very satisfied. However, the 60-minute breakfast time slot felt short. The souvenir shop was small with limited selection, which was a little disappointing. On the other hand, we were impressed to find several play areas for children—everyone was thrilled and had a great time. The two Executive Twin Rooms were clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed using the lounge at our leisure. The Suite Room was very spacious and included a large Japanese-style room that seemed convenient to use, but it did not appear to have been renovated and felt somewhat dated. Because many children gathered in the Japanese-style room to play, we received a complaint about loud footsteps. They weren’t running around, and it was still in the 8 p.m. hour, so it dampened our mood a bit—but if we caused any inconvenience, we sincerely apologize. Perhaps because there is an Onsen, there were no amenities such as facial lotion in the Room. Other items we felt would be nice to have include: a clock; a small tray or box for accessories; a magnifying mirror; more hangers (there weren’t many); and disposable indoor slippers. Our other planned trip had to be canceled at the last minute due to a typhoon, so we quickly searched for alternatives and made this Reservation here. It turned out to be an even more enjoyable family trip than expected, and we are truly grateful. Thank you very much.

A wide range of fun activities for young children
Thank you for taking care of us for 4 nights and 5 days. The large activity area in the basement and the calm playroom on the 3rd floor were heaven for our energetic toddler. On the other hand, the amenities were minimal—just basics like a toothbrush and hairbrush. There was also a limit on the number of towels, so we had to bring towels from our Room even when going to the Onsen. We stayed in an Executive Room, but midway through our stay there was a leak between the Japanese-style room and the bedroom, leaving everything soaked. It was fixed while we were out the next day, and we chose to continue our Multiple Night Stay in the same Room because we wanted to avoid the hassle of moving—but unless we contacted the front desk ourselves, we did not receive a proper update. With some family members unable to sleep due to dripping sounds, it was hard to accept just a verbal apology. It’s disappointing because otherwise the activities are so well equipped.

Overall, it feels a bit lacking.
We stayed for two nights as a couple with three children, including a 1-year-and-10-month-old. The kids’ area is spacious with play equipment, so children can run around without worrying too much about others. However, since some of the equipment is marked for ages 6 and up, younger children may not be able to fully enjoy everything. As for the other Facility amenities, they felt average—neither particularly good nor bad—and not quite worth the price.

Our group of 13 had a great time!
Our group of four families (seven people) stayed for two nights and three days and fully enjoyed it. The Facility looked impressive in the photos, and it truly was. The all-weather play area was perfect for children up to the lower elementary grades. When they got a little tired, they could read books or do small puzzles in a tatami Room, and there was even a train-themed Room that train lovers will adore—so even babies from 0 years old can play safely. The meals were also very varied, and although we stayed for two nights and three days, we managed to enjoy them without getting bored. The only disappointing point was the Shuttle Service bus from the Hotel to the station. The schedule felt very tight, so we worried about what would happen if we couldn’t make it onto the first bus. (It seems you can still make it with the second one, but even so, there’s too little buffer.) Also, despite lining up properly, some guests took seats while others were still checking luggage in—very poor manners. There were no Hotel staff guiding things either; the driver alone was loading luggage and directing passengers. I felt it would be better to have Hotel staff help at least during boarding until departure time. Other than that, all of the staff worked hard with constant smiles, which left us with a great impression. Thank you very much for your hospitality—we would love to visit again.

Perfect for families with young children!
My spouse and I stayed here as a couple, but we didn’t expect it to be this family-friendly. You can hear cheerful children’s voices everywhere. I think it’s the perfect Hotel for families. Meals are buffet-style, with options that both adults and children can enjoy. Since it was the first weekend of August, we felt a bit out of place. Overall, it’s a very good Hotel.

This is a repeat booking.
We stayed again around the same time as last year. Our child absolutely loves this place, and we happened to be able to make a Reservation the day before, so we decided to go at the last minute—and it was amazing as always! Perhaps there had been a cancellation, because when we arrived at the front desk, we were told our Room had been upgraded, and we felt both sorry and truly grateful. During our stay, our child was able to play the whole time, and the adults also had a wonderful time. We will definitely stay again next year. (This year there were even more things to play with than last year, which made it even better.)

The meals have become more delicious.
This is our 7th stay at Grand Mercure. We were starting to get a little tired of the same menu, but after the recent renewal we enjoyed delicious dishes such as grilled shabu-shabu with wine-fed beef, sushi, and sashimi. The best feature is the indoor Facility where you can play even during extreme heat. It’s perfect for families with children.

Room cleaning could be improved.
We stayed for three nights in an Executive Room with four people, including two elementary-school children. As soon as we entered the Room, we found a spider web... Under the bed were one slipper left behind by a previous guest (or even the guest before that) and a convenience-store plastic bag. The water pitcher still contained leftover water from the previous guest, and it was sticky with fingerprints, as if it had been handled with greasy hands from snacks or other food. Dust on the headboard shelf area was also very noticeable. The window had smudges, including handprints. Overall, it felt like corners were cut in cleaning—like “sweeping a square room in circles.” Meals were crowded, but the selection was good. The kids enjoyed table tennis, manga books, and Häagen-Dazs in the lounge, which was great; however, I felt that families with children should be informed at check-in about activities such as the treasure hunt and walking trail guidance. I think the service matched the price overall, but there was absolutely no cleanliness in the Room—and since the kids were enjoying themselves so much, that made it truly disappointing.

Family Summer Vacation Trip
We stayed for three nights and were very satisfied. It would be helpful if there were a change machine in the coin laundry. The open-air bath was also very relaxing. The staff were polite and attentive. We enjoyed the breakfast and dinner buffet as well—the meat and desserts were delicious. The indoor play area was well equipped, but we wished it stayed open until around 9:00 p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m. Both children and adults enjoyed the screen projection and games in the Executive Room.

A Mysterious Hotel
It was a Hotel with many “firsts” in a bad way, and I honestly don’t want to go again… but as time passes, it somehow becomes a memory—an oddly charming Hotel. Here are the details in bullet points… ◯ What was disappointing ・There were four noticeable pieces of trash on the shuttle bus (tissues and lollipops on sticks, etc.). ・While the bus was moving, the driver started handing out facility maps (maybe at a red light?). We were told to take one and pass it to the person behind us. Since we weren’t seated near each other, we both had to stand up to pass them along. The bus was moving and it felt dangerous. Then a second round came around and we had to do the same thing again. ・When we arrived at the Hotel, it was a day with a high of 36°C, but most areas inside didn’t have air conditioning on (the next day was even hotter, and then the air conditioning was finally on). ・We used the “Toddler Room,” but there was a large diaper trash bin placed almost in the center of the Room (the kind you see in shopping malls), between the TV stand and sofa. Even sitting on the sofa, it was right next to us and felt unpleasant. Our child is no longer in diapers, so maybe that made me feel even more uncomfortable. In the Room photos it’s hidden behind the TV stand—I felt like they took photos from angles where it wouldn’t show. ・The teacup was dirty. There were many other issues as well, and honestly I didn’t want to stay at this Hotel (especially in our Room)… I just wanted to go home as soon as possible. ◯ What was good ・Our child enjoyed it… This is the first time our child has cried saying they didn’t want to go home (maybe because we only stayed one night and everything felt rushed—we’d never done an overnight trip before). ・The play area. ・The food. ・A few staff members provided wonderful service. In particular, right before we left they gave our child a birthday present; their warm response completely outweighed all of our negative experiences up until then (someone who seemed like a manager). ・The shop is small, but there were lots of items that actually made me want to buy them. ・Despite being during summer vacation season, there weren’t many situations where crowds caused problems. If anything, dinner time—but still within an acceptable range. ◯ What I’d like improved ・I’d like staff members to wear name tags… Around 8 p.m., there was a man walking with a flashlight turned on standing near our Room door. The moment I saw him I thought: Who is that? It’s bright enough from hallway lighting—why is he shining a flashlight…? It honestly scared me. ◯ Location for “starry sky” slideshow during bad weather… In the dark room/area where this slideshow took place, many children were running around playing on equipment right behind us—it felt dangerous and also very noisy.

It was nice to be able to stay at a low price, but…
I have two concerns. First, the air conditioning in the large public bath changing area didn’t seem to be working, and it was far too hot. Even after bathing, I couldn’t stop sweating. I would like better temperature control or the addition of fans. Second, I stayed in an Executive Family Room and found a pair of glasses under the sofa that didn’t belong to me. It was in a spot that should have been noticed with proper cleaning, which made me wonder whether the room had really been cleaned and left me feeling uncomfortable.

Please improve the meals.
The good point was that there is an indoor play area, so the children had a great time. Areas for improvement: dinner and breakfast were not tasty, and the buffet selection was limited. I would like bath towels and washing towels to be provided in the Onsen changing room. The three elevators were far too crowded, and we had to wait quite a long time to go up or down. I don’t think I would use this place for an adults-only trip.

Front Desk Operations
My husband and I booked two Rooms for ourselves and our son’s family. There were many Facilities that children enjoy, and our grandchildren had a wonderful time—we were very satisfied. The buffet selection was extensive, the quality was high, and everything was delicious. The alcohol selection was also excellent, with good-quality options available. One disappointing point was the front desk service when we purchased souvenirs. While I was still putting the change into my wallet after paying in cash, a male staff member called the next guest. Also, although we (the parents) paid, we did not receive an itemized statement for the stay. Since our son checked in separately because we arrived at different times, was it given to him at check-in?

Traveling with My Grandchild
This was my second stay. I stayed about a year ago as well, and the service had improved significantly. The lounge service was also better, with items like duck and cheese served in the evening. Last time I felt that drinking bourbon from a paper cup wasn’t ideal, but that has been improved too, which was great. Above all, this Hotel’s children’s play area is amazing. It has been expanded even further, and my grandchildren were very happy. Thank you very much. I will stay again.

Probably not next time.
Stayed for one night from Friday. We traveled in the afternoon and checked into the Hotel just before 6:00 pm, which was late, and we didn’t end up starting dinner until 8:30 pm. It was crowded on Friday, so we checked in on our phones and were told we would receive guidance, but nothing came. When we asked, they said they didn’t know what time it would be but that they would guide us by 9:00 pm. Since we couldn’t predict the timing, we went to soak in the bath first, and right after that the guidance finally arrived. I understand our check-in was late, but this was my first time having dinner at a Hotel at this hour. If it were adults only, it might be unavoidable, but we were traveling with two children (one older preschooler and one younger), so considering them it was far too late. Also, the Room had a slight pool-like smell and felt unpleasant. Given these points, my wife and I agreed there’s no reason to go out of our way to stay at this Hotel again. We’ve stayed at Grand Mercure in Hamamatsu and Chiba as well, but dinner never ended up being this late there, so perhaps this location was just unlucky. It’s not a particularly high-end price range either, so I suppose it can’t be helped. If you plan to stay here, I recommend checking in early. If you’re sensitive to smells or details like that, you may want to choose a higher-grade Room. Of course, it may simply have been because our check-in was late and we happened to get a smelly Room this time—but I hope this helps as a reference.
