    I felt that the quality of service had declined.

    We stayed in the best Room for a Multiple Night Stay for the second year in a row. - Strangely, the quality of the meals dropped on the second day (experienced two years in a row: both breakfast and dinner; breakfast was especially disappointing). - At this dining venue, there were more foreign staff, and I could not understand what the person assisting us was saying. - It was also disappointing to be seated at an enclosed table with an oppressive feel and no view. In hindsight, choosing No Meals Included would have been the right decision. Despite being such a great Facility, it ended up being a very disappointing stay.

    The Perfect Anniversary

    We stayed here for our 30th wedding anniversary trip. It was our first time back in Karuizawa in 20 years. We have traveled and stayed at many places as a couple and with family, but this Accommodation was in a class of its own! Our Room was a luxury suite, and everything—the Room, the bath, and the meals—was perfect. I wanted to treat my wife to a spa treatment, but unfortunately there were no openings when I checked just a few days in advance. I regret not contacting them sooner. However, I only mentioned at check-in that it was our 30th anniversary, and they surprised us by adding an anniversary message to the dessert plate at dinner—it truly moved us. The best part may have been the outstanding hospitality from all the staff. Both my wife and I felt genuinely happy throughout our stay. We would love to stay in other areas such as Shizuyo no Mori, Nikko, Hakone, and Kyoto as well, but first we want to come back here again.

    We had a wonderful summer getaway.

    I was tired of the hot days, but Karuizawa was cool and truly refreshing. The check-in staff were also very kind, and as someone who loves this place, it was a wonderful stay that did not disappoint my expectations.

    The black maitake mushroom hot pot for breakfast is outstanding!

    The meals were especially wonderful and delicious. In particular, the breakfast hot pot featuring black maitake mushrooms was outstanding. We are a married couple, both 72 years old. For my wife, who has always been a light eater, the portions felt generous, but I finished everything. All of the staff—especially the women—were knowledgeable and reassuring, and they made every effort to help resolve our concerns.

    Perfect in every way except for the service.

    The Room was impeccably clean, and the food was truly delicious. Last year I stayed at HIRAMATSU in a similar price range, but I preferred the cuisine here. However, the service was a bit disappointing. I arrived by car, but the guidance was insufficient and I wasn’t sure where to go. Even though about five staff members were standing near the front desk, no one spoke to me. At Hotels in this price range, I expected them to take my keys and handle parking as well, so that fell short of expectations. When I used the bar after dinner, there was no one inside and I had to wait for a while. The bartender’s manner was also quite casual, and I wasn’t sure it matched the Hotel’s atmosphere. Because the Facility and meals were outstanding, my honest impression is that it would have been flawless if only the service had been a little better.

    It was excellent.

    From the warm welcome to the farewell, the attentive care throughout our stay was outstanding. The amenities were high quality and very comfortable to use. Above all, it was wonderful that the in-Room bath was an Onsen.

    Overall, I was very satisfied.

    Everything—from the Room, interior, meals, to the service—was very satisfying. The bath used natural Onsen water, and we really enjoyed it. We were also impressed by the attention to detail, even down to the tea selection. During meals, each table had a dedicated staff member, and the service was attentive and made us feel comfortable. Every dish was delicious and made us truly happy. We also liked the amenities so much that we purchased a few items. If I had to mention one thing, I noticed after returning home that all of the photos of us taken by a staff member were blurry, which was a bit disappointing. Sorry for mentioning it afterward. Still, we were very satisfied with our stay. Thank you very much.

    Thank you for your hospitality. Everyone, especially the person in charge of guiding us to our Room and serving dinner, was pleasant and attentive, so we had a comfortable stay. We were glad that dessert at both dinner and breakfast was fruit.

    Feel at ease staying here, even if you suddenly feel unwell.

    On this trip, I may have been worn out from a very tight schedule and started feeling unwell partway through dinner, so I had to return to my Room before I could fully enjoy the meal, which was disappointing. They kindly offered, “Shall we make your rice into onigiri and bring it to you?” but unfortunately I declined. However, at breakfast the next morning—and when I contacted the concierge (because the newspaper had not been delivered that morning and I wanted to request one)—they checked on my condition, and it reassured me that the information had been properly shared among the staff. For seniors like me, even small changes in environment can sometimes lead to physical discomfort. With support like this, I felt I could stay with peace of mind. By the way, I’ve heard that Hotel staff also read Reviews—do IKYU staff read them as well? This time, I changed my Reservation from two nights to one night. IKYU automatically sent me an email confirming the change, but it seems the Hotel was not aware of it and called to confirm both the day before and on the day of arrival. This may be something between the Hotel and IKYU rather than something for a guest to comment on, but smoother coordination would be better.

    We had a very relaxing stay!

    I came to visit relatives in Karuizawa for the first time in a while, and stayed at Fufu Karuizawa for the first time. It had long been one of the Accommodations I’d wanted to try, so I was thrilled to finally stay there! It was more spacious than I expected, and the Room was comfortable and relaxing. The meals were delicious as rumored, and my spouse and I were able to unwind at our own pace. The staff were also very kind, and I appreciated their thoughtful greetings. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again if I have the chance.

    I stayed at Fufu Karuizawa -Sunlit Breeze- again, and once more I was deeply impressed by the staff’s thoughtful care. As I am currently pregnant, I shared a few special requests regarding meals and in-room service before the trip, and everything was handled perfectly. They also prepared decaffeinated tea and coffee in my room specifically for me, which made me feel truly well cared for. At dinner, the staff served dishes thoroughly cooked as requested, and when I mentioned I might need an extra pillow, they responded immediately—another example of their attentive service. The food was as delicious as ever, and every dinner course left a lasting impression! The only minor downside was that the air conditioner is positioned directly opposite the bed, so the airflow hits you at night, and the bed seems to have no stopper so it moves easily. Other than that, everything was perfect. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

    A special stay to refresh both body and mind

    This was my first stay, and it was an exceptionally satisfying experience. Upon arrival, the staff lined up to welcome me, and my heart raced with excitement at the start of such a special time. The room was calm and comfortable, and the atmosphere throughout the property was wonderful. I truly enjoyed the dining experience—from the tableware and presentation to the overall staging—and felt excited with each course. The cuisine that matched the beauty of the dishes, along with attentive service, made for a deeply fulfilling time. What left the strongest impression was the spa. The pressure was perfect, and it was such an outstanding treatment that I wanted to book another session for the next day. I also appreciated my therapist’s thoughtful touches; when I visit Karuizawa again, I would gladly stay here just to enjoy this spa once more. There were moments during my stay when I caused inconvenience due to sudden requests, but I am grateful for your kind assistance. Thanks to all of you on staff, I felt refreshed both physically and mentally. I would love to return in a different season. Thank you very much.

    Have a wonderful birthday.

    From the warm welcome and attentive service to the meal presentation, everything was truly hospitable, and we had a wonderful time. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we would love to stay again for a special occasion. Even though we didn’t ask, they took photos for us because it was my birthday and gave us a gift at the end. We love traveling as a couple and have stayed at many Hotels and Ryokans, but this is the first Hotel that has satisfied us this much! Thank you very much! We would definitely love to stay again!

    An Exceptional Hotel Stay

    We stayed here for our wedding anniversary trip. We had previously stayed at another Fufu and loved it, so we were looking forward to Fufu Karuizawa as well—and the cuisine and hospitality exceeded our expectations! Thank you so much for taking such great care of our two children (ages 3 and 1). If I had to mention one thing, the only non-alcoholic option in the free-flow was apple juice, and the snacks were limited to vegetable chips and banana chips, so a bit more variety would have been even better. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented, and everything tasted wonderful—we were completely satisfied. We’d love to stay again when we visit Karuizawa!

    This is the best accommodation.

    We stayed here for our wedding anniversary trip. Ever since staying at Fufu Kawaguchiko, we’ve been fans of Fufu, and this time in Karuizawa was also wonderfully relaxing. They kindly accommodated foods we can’t eat, and we enjoyed everything deliciously. The beautiful and elegant presentation of the meals is also one of the highlights. As it was our anniversary, they prepared a cake for us, took commemorative photos, placed them in a frame, and gave it to us as a gift. We’ve gained another wonderful memory. We would love to celebrate our anniversary at Fufu again next year as well. It was truly a wonderful Accommodation.

    Revisit

    I loved the Japanese-French cuisine here two years ago, so I returned this time after hearing it had been renewed as Japanese cuisine. The dishes skillfully incorporate wood-fired cooking—more of a Japanese-Western fusion than strictly Japanese—and everything was absolutely delicious. My personal favorite was the tilefish matsukasa-yaki; it was outstanding! The black hot pot at breakfast was also excellent, with a perfectly balanced mushroom broth. I’d love to visit again the next time I’m in Karuizawa.

    We look forward to future improvements.

    After watching YouTube videos and reading Reviews, I made a Reservation because I thought it would be perfect for celebrating his birthday. The property has lots of greenery, and the Facility and Room were truly to my taste, so I was genuinely looking forward to our stay. However, I felt that the service from some staff members was questionable. At dinner, the foreign staff member in charge was difficult to understand from the start, and we had to make an effort just to figure out what they were trying to say. Perhaps they wanted to recommend upgrading the meat, but they said something like, “If you like meat, I will use that as a reference,” and their Japanese felt inconsistent—some dishes were explained in detail while others were not—so it left me feeling uneasy about their language ability. At checkout, we had informed you in advance that this was a birthday celebration. I also went down to the lounge before him and asked to settle the bill first, but in the end the statement was presented at a timing when he could see it as well. At the main entrance, we were kindly offered a commemorative photo (“Would you like a photo?”), but instead of waiting for other guests approaching from behind us to pass through, they shifted slightly to the right and then took our photo diagonally from where they stood. Was it because we were a young couple? It kept bothering me that it felt as though those particular staff members were assigned intentionally. I couldn’t shake an ongoing sense of discomfort throughout our stay, and even our commemorative photo ended with an awkward smile. It’s disappointing because it is such a wonderful Accommodation with excellent food. Perhaps because I work in a similar field, I noticed these things too much. I also came with the mindset of learning something from this experience; however, there were so many points that concerned me that I couldn’t really learn anything at all. Even though this was supposed to be his birthday trip, I feel sorry for making him feel disappointed as well. If there had been a handwritten questionnaire available on-site, I would have written this there instead; since I couldn’t find one in particular (or at all), I’m posting this Review. I wrote this in hopes it will be helpful for those planning an anniversary trip or for your team at Fufu as reference going forward. The Accommodation itself was truly lovely, so I would like to visit again someday. When that time comes again (or when we return), thank you very much in advance for your kind hospitality (and support).

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. From check-in to check-out, we had a truly enjoyable stay. The staff were attentive yet pleasantly relaxed—just perfect. Everything was comfortable.     We would love to stay here again.

    We really loved the atmosphere of the Room. With a large couch sofa plus two sofa sets, the layout suited us well, so we could truly relax and spend a very comfortable time. We also enjoyed the in-room Onsen and stone sauna, and felt refreshed after drinking detox tea. The meals also suited our taste perfectly; every dish at both breakfast and dinner was delicious. We were also happy to meet the chef who prepared such wonderful cuisine. If possible, we would love it if you could sell the soup, croquettes, and apple pie dessert as well. The women who took care of our dinner and breakfast were excellent conversationalists and very attentive, which made our time even more enjoyable. We are deeply grateful. From my personal perspective as someone who regularly uses accommodations in this price range, there are various opinions; however, considering today’s inflationary environment—including labor costs, land prices, and overall prices—I feel the cost performance is well balanced. We are delighted to have found an Accommodation we would definitely like to revisit in a different season.

    A New Resort in Karuizawa

    With carefully prepared, delicious meals, an Onsen in the Room with thoughtful touches such as underfloor heating, and the warm hospitality of all the staff, this was a truly wonderful Accommodation. Next time, I would definitely like to book a Multiple Night Stay and relax at a leisurely pace. If I had to mention one thing, even with a smaller-portion option the meals still felt a bit too generous. It would be appreciated if there were lighter meal choices for Multiple Night Stays (a dinner portion about the size of breakfast would be sufficient).

    Soak Up the Sunshine Breeze!

    A Comfortable Space

    I stayed here for work and spent about three nights. It was an excellent space for getting things done, and the butler service was very quick to respond. The amenities were more than sufficient with no issues at all. The Room was well stocked with many thoughtful items, and the property offers a wide range of services that feel unique to Fufu. Because there seemed to be many new staff members, the service sometimes felt inconsistent, and there were moments when I wished they had been a bit more attentive. However, my overall satisfaction with the stay more than made up for it. The Room was very cute, spacious, and comfortable. I also used the spa during my stay, and it was great as well.

    The Best Birthday Trip

    We stayed here for his birthday trip. After researching various options, I decided on this Accommodation because it seemed like the one he would love the most. I watched many YouTube videos and fell in love with the Room featuring a colorful daybed, so we chose the Stylish Suite King Double. Since each Room appears to have different interiors, getting that exact one was a matter of luck—but the moment we walked in and saw the daybed Room, we were thrilled. The in-room Onsen uses transported hot spring water, so true Onsen enthusiasts might consider it unconventional. However, it was more than enough for us, and we were grateful to enjoy an Onsen—so much so that we used it many times during our stay. We usually stay in Rooms with open-air baths, so I thought an indoor bath might feel lacking. But thanks to the bright glass-walled design with no sense of enclosure at all, I didn’t find it lacking—in fact, I absolutely loved it. The water temperature is on the cooler side, so you can soak for a long time. We also thoroughly enjoyed the time-slot free-flow lounge. I was especially happy that it was Champagne rather than sparkling wine. There was very little information beforehand because they had only recently switched to Japanese cuisine at that time, but both dinner and breakfast were undeniably delicious. In particular, the dashi broth from the small hot pot at breakfast—filled with plenty of mushrooms—was outstanding and truly moving first thing in the morning. Above all else, what impressed us most was the exceptional hospitality. Everyone provided wonderful service, but we spoke especially often with two staff members: the person who handled our check-in and escorted us to our Room, and the person in charge of our dinner table. Both were young women with a lovely presence, and their service felt truly professional. Both he and I were deeply impressed by their hospitality and were able to spend our entire stay in great spirits. Thanks to their care, this trip became even more special—we are sincerely grateful. I also ordered a birthday cake separately; they brought it to our Room so we could enjoy it slowly. To be honest we could hardly eat much after such a full dinner—but I’m glad we ordered it as a memorable celebration. There are countless Accommodations I want to visit next, so I rarely return to the same place—but this is one Accommodation I definitely want to visit again. Thank you very much for everything.

    Relaxing “Fufu”

    Recently, I’ve started staying with the Fufu group, and this is one of my favorite Accommodations—spacious Rooms, comfortable beds, a relaxing sofa, an Onsen that makes you want to bathe again and again, and delicious meals. Yoko no Kaze also met my expectations. However, since our Room was on the first floor and I was aware of the road in front of it, it was a little disappointing that I couldn’t fully open the windows while bathing or lie down on the hot stone. Also, as the garden trees were not in fresh spring greenery yet, I’d love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much to all the staff for your kind care.

    What Seniors Noticed on Their Second Stay

    This was my second stay, following my visit in February. To be honest, I only started using IKYU recently and thought Reviews were mainly for people considering a stay. However, after I wrote about a few concerns I had last time, a Senior Manager kindly called to offer an apology. With that in mind, during this stay they showed thoughtful consideration, and the points that had concerned me previously were improved, so I was able to enjoy a very comfortable visit. I’m not particularly focused on Onsen, so what makes Fufu truly outstanding for me is the private atmosphere in the restaurant and especially the breakfast. The variety and volume are unlike anything else. That said, it takes a full hour, so it’s best suited to those who want to dine at a relaxed pace. Also, since when I go to Karuizawa I usually split my trip between two hotels for 3–4 nights total, as someone in the senior age group I felt that both breakfast and dinner can be a bit heavy for a Multiple Night Stay. For dinner this time there was something like crab cream croquettes; compared with my previous stay it felt much more Western-leaning. It was delicious in its own way, but if you’re expecting Japanese cuisine your preferences may vary. I didn’t use the free-flow option either last time or this time (as it seemed like it might interfere with enjoying the meal). Still, as someone accustomed to more traditional hotel service styles, I feel an Accommodation like Fufu would actually be quite comfortable once you get used to it. Personally, my ideal would be to combine “another hotel where you can expect great views from the room and a quiet environment” with “Yoko no Kaze,” but unfortunately Yoko no Kaze does not offer a year-round solo traveler Plan. If I could check frequently enough I could book stays like this one, but with how busy things are day to day that isn’t easy. My next visit is undecided for now, but if the timing works out again I look forward to returning.

    The meals are excellent.

    Everything was excellent. The meals in particular—both dinner and breakfast—were outstanding, and the breakfast was the best I’ve ever had. The Room and the Facility overall were also very clean. The limited-time free drinks at the bar were a nice touch as well. Some staff members seemed inexperienced, but their sincere effort came through, so I have no complaints. If possible, I would appreciate having a few more items stocked in the refrigerator. I’ve often stayed at places with higher ratings, better Reviews, and higher prices, but honestly, although this was my first time in Karuizawa and I didn’t find the town itself especially appealing, I would come just for Fufu Karuizawa. The only downside was that there was no Shuttle Service. Paying over 2,000 yen one way by taxi is tough. Atami and Hakone offer free shuttles; even a shared ride or some waiting time would be fine, so I hope you will consider it.

    Amazing!!

    This was our first stay at Fufu Karuizawa. We stayed as a family of four to celebrate my mother’s recovery. While many luxury Accommodations these days don’t feel worth the price, we truly felt Fufu’s heartfelt hospitality, and the food was excellent. When I mentioned to the dinner staff that we were celebrating my mother’s recovery, they added a message to the final dessert, which made everyone so happy and deeply moved us. We were also lucky with the weather, and my mother was delighted—staying at Fufu was absolutely the right choice!! It’s been a long time since we found such a wonderful Accommodation.
