    Soak Up the Sunshine Breeze!

In May, the weather was lovely, and the fresh spring greenery was soothing—this Accommodation was a truly wonderful natural resort. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, featuring local and seasonal ingredients. Not only the main dishes, but also the salads and vegetable sides were genuinely impressive. Thank you to all the staff for your kind hospitality. I’d love to visit again to feel the sunlit breeze!

    Golden Week Trip

We stayed during the Golden Week holidays. Despite it being a busy period, everything—from check-in and check-out to dinner and breakfast—was handled smoothly with no waiting time, making our stay very refreshing and pleasant. The staff at the front desk and in the dining area were excellent, and every meal was delicious. We would love to stay again when we visit Karuizawa.

    A Comfortable Space

I stayed here for work and spent about three nights. It was an excellent space for getting things done, and the butler service was very quick to respond. The amenities were more than sufficient with no issues at all. The Room was well stocked with many thoughtful items, and the property offers a wide range of services that feel unique to Fufu. Because there seemed to be many new staff members, the service sometimes felt inconsistent, and there were moments when I wished they had been a bit more attentive. However, my overall satisfaction with the stay more than made up for it. The Room was very cute, spacious, and comfortable. I also used the spa during my stay, and it was great as well.

    The Best Birthday Trip

We stayed here for his birthday trip. After researching various options, I decided on this Accommodation because it seemed like the one he would love the most. I watched many YouTube videos and fell in love with the Room featuring a colorful daybed, so we chose the Stylish Suite King Double. Since each Room appears to have different interiors, getting that exact one was a matter of luck—but the moment we walked in and saw the daybed Room, we were thrilled. The in-room Onsen uses transported hot spring water, so true Onsen enthusiasts might consider it unconventional. However, it was more than enough for us, and we were grateful to enjoy an Onsen—so much so that we used it many times during our stay. We usually stay in Rooms with open-air baths, so I thought an indoor bath might feel lacking. But thanks to the bright glass-walled design with no sense of enclosure at all, I didn’t find it lacking—in fact, I absolutely loved it. The water temperature is on the cooler side, so you can soak for a long time. We also thoroughly enjoyed the time-slot free-flow lounge. I was especially happy that it was Champagne rather than sparkling wine. There was very little information beforehand because they had only recently switched to Japanese cuisine at that time, but both dinner and breakfast were undeniably delicious. In particular, the dashi broth from the small hot pot at breakfast—filled with plenty of mushrooms—was outstanding and truly moving first thing in the morning. Above all else, what impressed us most was the exceptional hospitality. Everyone provided wonderful service, but we spoke especially often with two staff members: the person who handled our check-in and escorted us to our Room, and the person in charge of our dinner table. Both were young women with a lovely presence, and their service felt truly professional. Both he and I were deeply impressed by their hospitality and were able to spend our entire stay in great spirits. Thanks to their care, this trip became even more special—we are sincerely grateful. I also ordered a birthday cake separately; they brought it to our Room so we could enjoy it slowly. To be honest we could hardly eat much after such a full dinner—but I’m glad we ordered it as a memorable celebration. There are countless Accommodations I want to visit next, so I rarely return to the same place—but this is one Accommodation I definitely want to visit again. Thank you very much for everything.

    Relaxing “Fufu”

Recently, I’ve started staying with the Fufu group, and this is one of my favorite Accommodations—spacious Rooms, comfortable beds, a relaxing sofa, an Onsen that makes you want to bathe again and again, and delicious meals. Yoko no Kaze also met my expectations. However, since our Room was on the first floor and I was aware of the road in front of it, it was a little disappointing that I couldn’t fully open the windows while bathing or lie down on the hot stone. Also, as the garden trees were not in fresh spring greenery yet, I’d love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much to all the staff for your kind care.

What Seniors Noticed on Their Second Stay

This was my second stay, following my visit in February. To be honest, I only started using IKYU recently and thought Reviews were mainly for people considering a stay. However, after I wrote about a few concerns I had last time, a Senior Manager kindly called to offer an apology. With that in mind, during this stay they showed thoughtful consideration, and the points that had concerned me previously were improved, so I was able to enjoy a very comfortable visit. I’m not particularly focused on Onsen, so what makes Fufu truly outstanding for me is the private atmosphere in the restaurant and especially the breakfast. The variety and volume are unlike anything else. That said, it takes a full hour, so it’s best suited to those who want to dine at a relaxed pace. Also, since when I go to Karuizawa I usually split my trip between two hotels for 3–4 nights total, as someone in the senior age group I felt that both breakfast and dinner can be a bit heavy for a Multiple Night Stay. For dinner this time there was something like crab cream croquettes; compared with my previous stay it felt much more Western-leaning. It was delicious in its own way, but if you’re expecting Japanese cuisine your preferences may vary. I didn’t use the free-flow option either last time or this time (as it seemed like it might interfere with enjoying the meal). Still, as someone accustomed to more traditional hotel service styles, I feel an Accommodation like Fufu would actually be quite comfortable once you get used to it. Personally, my ideal would be to combine “another hotel where you can expect great views from the room and a quiet environment” with “Yoko no Kaze,” but unfortunately Yoko no Kaze does not offer a year-round solo traveler Plan. If I could check frequently enough I could book stays like this one, but with how busy things are day to day that isn’t easy. My next visit is undecided for now, but if the timing works out again I look forward to returning.

    The meals are excellent.

Everything was excellent. The meals in particular—both dinner and breakfast—were outstanding, and the breakfast was the best I’ve ever had. The Room and the Facility overall were also very clean. The limited-time free drinks at the bar were a nice touch as well. Some staff members seemed inexperienced, but their sincere effort came through, so I have no complaints. If possible, I would appreciate having a few more items stocked in the refrigerator. I’ve often stayed at places with higher ratings, better Reviews, and higher prices, but honestly, although this was my first time in Karuizawa and I didn’t find the town itself especially appealing, I would come just for Fufu Karuizawa. The only downside was that there was no Shuttle Service. Paying over 2,000 yen one way by taxi is tough. Atami and Hakone offer free shuttles; even a shared ride or some waiting time would be fine, so I hope you will consider it.

    Amazing!!

This was our first stay at Fufu Karuizawa. We stayed as a family of four to celebrate my mother’s recovery. While many luxury Accommodations these days don’t feel worth the price, we truly felt Fufu’s heartfelt hospitality, and the food was excellent. When I mentioned to the dinner staff that we were celebrating my mother’s recovery, they added a message to the final dessert, which made everyone so happy and deeply moved us. We were also lucky with the weather, and my mother was delighted—staying at Fufu was absolutely the right choice!! It’s been a long time since we found such a wonderful Accommodation.

    A Thoughtfully Attentive Accommodation

This was my first visit with my daughter. I had informed them in advance about ingredients we cannot eat, and the head chef kindly prepared an alternative menu. Thank you very much. Thanks to you, we were able to enjoy wonderful memories and delicious food. The course service was excellent as well. It was a place I would love to visit again.

    A Relaxing Stay

Everything went smoothly except for a minor issue at check-in. All meals from the fufu Hotels group are delicious, and this time we enjoyed Japanese-Western fusion cuisine. Breakfast was excellent. We also really enjoyed the Hotel spa treatment. It was very relaxing, and the atmosphere was wonderful.

    Checkout Assistance

I stayed for one night. The Room had a lovely fragrance, and the bed was very comfortable. The meals were also extremely satisfying. At checkout, there were no staff around... I thought, “Huh?” When I went to the lounge area, one female staff member helped me with the procedure, but after that there was no one else around. In the end, the place felt empty, and that really stood out to me. While I was waiting and wondering if someone would come, a female staff member kindly walked me to the parking lot with an umbrella... But as I was leaving, I wanted to say thank you properly for your hospitality, and it made me feel a bit lonely. I hope this can be improved.

    Focused on cuisine and atmosphere

The Room faces the road, so it doesn’t really have a spectacular view. I had assumed the Room came with a hot stone sauna and was looking forward to it, but perhaps because it was winter, I didn’t feel any warmth—nor did I feel cold. It felt more like a simple post-bath relaxation area. I recommend not going with the expectation of a hot stone sauna. It was also disappointing that when I planned to go to the spa after my child had fallen asleep, it closed at 20:00. However, the food was very delicious. The atmosphere of the Room and the cuisine were wonderful and truly “Fufu”-like.

    The Best Moments

The staff were exceptionally attentive, and the Hotel’s stylish exterior and interior made me feel comfortable from the moment I arrived. The welcome herbal drink was delicious, and I also really appreciated the time when several kinds of drinks were available free of charge. The fragrance in the Room was soothing and relaxing as soon as I entered, and the Room’s design was wonderful as well. Both dinner and breakfast were full of creativity, with seasonal ingredients playfully crafted into a variety of dishes. Each course brought a new discovery and great flavor, leaving both my stomach and my heart completely satisfied! I was genuinely surprised at how delicious some unexpected ingredient combinations could be. Everything was truly excellent, and chatting with the staff who served the dishes was also a pleasure. I tried several add-on items such as tasting drinks, and everything was delicious—I had an amazing time. The bathroom in the Room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Fufu Karuizawa Youko no Kaze even has a hot stone sauna; it felt like every detail had been taken care of. Soaking in the Onsen again and again helped me melt away everyday fatigue. Thank you very much for providing such a wonderful stay.

The quality of the staff varies...

I stayed for one night and was told the meals had switched to Japanese cuisine starting in February. As I usually follow a low-sodium diet, I requested reduced-salt options and they accommodated me. The head chef apparently has not changed, and the Japanese dishes had a Western touch, but they were delicious. The Room was spacious enough for a solo trip, and the bed mattress was excellent. (I usually have lower back pain, and if a mattress doesn’t suit me it gets worse.) I was grateful that I didn’t feel any back pain when I woke up. However, there were a few things that concerned me: 1: The closet contained a padded jacket-like cold-weather garment that did not seem to be cleaned each time; it smelled of the previous guest’s sweat and I had no desire to wear it. 2: At breakfast, the spoon provided was dirty (not properly washed). 3: When I checked the souvenir prepared for Diamond members after returning home, it included two jars of meat miso with only 10 days left before the expiration date. For a guest requesting reduced-salt meals, receiving salty meat miso—and two jars with only 10 days remaining—was honestly difficult to deal with. What concerned me most was this: The concierge counter staff were simply not up to standard. In the morning on my way to the restaurant, I passed by and could sense two staff members behind the tall counter, but even when guests walked by they hid as if holding their breath and did not greet anyone. At other hotels, it is normal for staff to say “Good morning” even if you haven’t noticed them first. After breakfast I had an errand and went over to the counter; one staff member hunched over as if trying to signal “please don’t come here.” Still, I wanted to ask about recommended walking routes nearby, so I spoke from the side and asked—but they couldn’t answer. Even when I prompted them by asking, “If you go left there’s Yukawa Furusato Park, right?” they couldn’t respond; they just stared silently at brochures looking clearly troubled. Another staff member stood next to them but ignored it completely. It’s a shame because other staff were very good—this made the overall impression worse.

    Nothing to complain about.

Staff service Quality of the cuisine (a well-balanced Japanese-Western style, excellent local ingredients, etc.) Room comfort (in-room bath, amenities, bedroom, etc.) We were completely satisfied with everything during our two-day stay. We will definitely stay again!

    Air conditioner malfunction

The air conditioning in Room 204, where I stayed on January 6th, was not functioning properly, and it was extremely cold. The next morning, the air conditioner was turned off, and two portable ceramic heaters along with an oil heater were provided as a solution. However, the room temperature at night only reached around 17 degrees Celsius, so I had to endure by staying under the blankets. Other than this issue, everything else was fine.

    I was deeply moved.

The entire Facility was thoughtfully designed down to the smallest details, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. It felt natural and not overdone, yet the effort behind it was clearly remarkable. The bath was slightly lukewarm, and since we had to request the front desk to adjust the temperature, we decided to endure it. The amenities like shampoo had a very nice fragrance but were a bit strong; this might not suit everyone. My husband found it slightly unsuitable. The meals were outstanding in every aspect—Facility, food quality, and staff service. Each dish left us impressed. However, there were limited drink options during meals, especially whiskey varieties; having more options would be appreciated as there are plenty available at the adjacent bar lounge. The selection of beverages provided in the Room was excellent as well. Overall evaluation: perfect. One small suggestion would be to make the entrance from the road easier to find—we ended up going back and forth quite a bit. We would love to stay again in the future. Thank you very much!

Stayed at the accommodation at the end of the year.

This was our first stay at Fufu Nikko, and we loved it so much that this became our third time staying at a Fufu accommodation whenever available at our travel destinations. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were absolutely delicious. As we prioritize food during our stays, we were extremely satisfied. The meals at other Fufu accommodations we've stayed at have also been excellent, which gives us a sense of reliability. Regarding the room, since it had an in-room bath that many guests might use multiple times, we noticed there was no towel-drying heater. It was slightly inconvenient to reuse damp towels after one use. Lastly, the hospitality from the staff who served us breakfast and the bartender was kind and greatly appreciated.

    Excellent

We stayed at the accommodation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Everything, including the spa services and meals, was highly satisfying! The bed was extremely comfortable, and we slept unbelievably well. I’m curious about the manufacturer of the mattress. We would love to visit again!

    Positive Points:

Positive Points: 1. The Room was clean. 2. The bathtub was larger than expected. 3. Free drinks were available in the lounge. 4. The bed was very comfortable. 5. The food was delicious. Negative Points: 1. Despite informing about food preferences at check-in, they were not fully accommodated, which was disappointing given the high quality of the cuisine. 2. The side of the bathtub had a stone sauna feature, but the temperature was low and could not be adjusted as informed by staff. 3. Noticed in the morning while using the bathtub that the glass window lock had been left open. Final Impression: Although it wasn't perfect, I enjoyed my stay overall and would consider visiting again if I have another opportunity!

    I enjoyed my stay.

The room, service, and bath were all excellent. The clean and comfortable space and service allowed me to relax both physically and mentally. The quality of the amenities was evident from their fragrance and texture. This time I stayed with a No Meals Included plan, but next time I would like to choose a plan with meals. It was my first stay at Fufu, but I have become a big fan. Thank you very much!

    Glad I stayed here.

I had high expectations after reading various reviews and looking at the facility's photos, but this accommodation exceeded them. I especially loved the scent of the original amenities by Fufu, so much that I purchased them as they were available for sale. The welcome sweets included canelé, which was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside—absolutely delicious. I also bought some as souvenirs. The bath in the room was spacious and allowed me to relax fully, which was very satisfying. This is an accommodation I would love to revisit and recommend to my friends.

【Ultimate Retreat】~Sophisticated Hospitality to Satisfy All Your Senses~

My first stay at "Fufu" was an extraordinary experience that exceeded all expectations, providing profound relaxation for both body and mind. From the moment I stepped in, it felt like entering an otherworldly space surrounded by a deep forest. The meticulously designed interiors resembled art pieces harmonized with the beauty of nature, creating picturesque scenes that elevated the travel mood. The highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the cuisine, crafted under the concept of "Japanese-French." A perfect fusion of fresh local ingredients and refined French essence resulted in creative and profound dishes. It was a joy to savor with all five senses, making for a truly enriching evening. Returning to our Room revealed a luxurious private sanctuary. The in-room stone sauna was particularly exceptional. In this undisturbed space, I indulged in detoxification and relaxation to my heart's content. Feeling warmth from within, I could sense daily fatigue melting away. Additionally, we were deeply moved by the warm hospitality provided by young staff members who attended to every detail with care. Their thoughtful service further enhanced our overall satisfaction during the stay. This visit left my spouse and me completely captivated by "Fufu's" charm. We are already looking forward to planning trips to explore various "Fufu" locations across Japan in the coming years!

    I felt relaxed.

Fufu Karuizawa follows our stays in Nikko and Kyoto. Compared to the other two accommodations, this one had more greenery within the premises, providing a relaxing and soothing experience. The Onsen seemed to use transported water, but with hot stones placed nearby, it offered effects similar to a stone sauna, which was great. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent in both quality and quantity—absolutely delicious. However, as there was no large public bath and the Fire Lounge event was canceled due to unfortunate weather conditions, we found ourselves with some extra time on our hands apart from meals. This is the only point of deduction for us. Overall though, we were highly satisfied and have added this accommodation to our list of places we'd love to visit again. Thank you for your hospitality!

    First Time at Fufu

From the warm welcome upon arrival to the farewell at departure, the staff's hospitality was excellent, making my stay very comfortable. The atmosphere of the Hotel and Room was lovely, allowing me to relax completely. Amenities and towels were well-stocked, and it was helpful that they could be replenished if needed. The meals I had been looking forward to were absolutely delicious, and I would love to return just to enjoy them again. This was my first stay at Fufu, but not only Karuizawa—if given the chance, I would like to visit other Fufu locations as well.

Private rooms for families with children are disappointing.

We stayed as a family of three, including our 3-year-old child. There were several points that did not meet the expectations for "Fufu," and I mentioned some of them during checkout. Since there are reviews recommending this accommodation for families with children, I would like to share my thoughts on that aspect. Facilities & Service: As described by the term "small luxury," it is a small-scale accommodation. On the other hand, given its name meaning "breeze and sunlight," one would expect a sense of openness and relaxation. However, both at dinner and breakfast, we were guided to a private room with only a narrow skylight—no greenery in sight—resembling something like an austere solitary cell. It seemed this was done out of consideration for other guests because we had a child with us. Feeling stifled by the closed atmosphere, we requested to keep the door open but found it repeatedly shut... This was the first time we've experienced such poor treatment at an accommodation claiming to be luxurious. If isolation is necessary, shouldn't there be either discounted rates or upfront communication about such arrangements? Had we known we weren't welcome, we wouldn't have chosen to stay here in the first place; after all, there are plenty of accommodations that do not accept children under 12 years old. To be fair, let me mention some positive aspects: Enjoying drinks (free-flow alcohol and juice) on the terrace in the evening was delightful—they were very tasty! The staff member managing the terrace fire pit also kindly offered assistance when our child spilled water and provided excellent service. On another note, being located along a national highway is another downside. The staff members were kind and attentive toward our 3-year-old child for which we're grateful. Dining: The meals featured fusion cuisine—it may come down to personal preference. Room & Amenities: The room was lovely with many indoor plants creating a comfortable atmosphere. The mattress firmness was just right as well. Having an onsen in our room was also a great feature! However... noticing Bamford body care products available at their shop during check-in made me wonder if using their original brand products in-room might have been more about cost-cutting? Additionally, figuring out how to use their hairdryer wasn't straightforward either. As context—I frequently stay at five-star hotels domestically and internationally; thus comparisons tend toward those standards within Fufu's price range. My review may seem critical due partly due these high benchmarks—thank you for understanding!

    A Relaxing Time

I often visit Karuizawa, so I was excited about Fufu opening there even before going. The Room was spacious, the staff service was excellent, and the Japanese-French cuisine was beautiful and delicious, leaving me deeply impressed. I just got back, but I already want to visit again.

    Comfortable Journey

The room environment was very comfortable with a plush sofa and a spacious bathtub. Upon entering the room, I found canelés, which were incredibly delicious. The staff were very kind and provided advice, such as how to use the open terrace, to ensure a comfortable stay. What impressed me the most was the deliciousness of the meals. The flavors were beyond imagination, combining the best of Japanese and French cuisine, resulting in an unforgettable taste. During breakfast, I ordered a smoothie, which felt like drinking fresh fruit and was a flavor I had never experienced before. I am grateful for the wonderful time I had. Thank you to all the staff. I look forward to visiting again in a different season.
