The Japanese cuisine was excellent!
Although I arrived an hour early due to feeling unwell from the heat, you kindly provided ice packs and other items, which was a great help. Thank you very much.

Unlimited Bathing
I was able to refresh myself with a variety of bathing experiences, including the open-air bath, indoor bath, and the bath in the Room. The property is spacious, so even going to the baths felt like a little adventure. The hot spring water was gentle, and despite soaking many times, I didn’t feel any discomfort—just a pleasant experience. The Simmons bed was also very comfortable. If I had to mention one drawback, it would be that I woke up because the sound of the air conditioning bothered me. Thank you very much. The bread from the on-site bakery was delicious as well.

We stayed in a river...
We stayed in a riverside Room with a semi-open-air bath with my husband, grandchild, and my daughter and her husband. We were able to fully enjoy a high-quality stay. It has become a Hotel we would like to visit again.

Impeccable attention to detail.
I was amazed by the thoughtful touches in the Room amenities that you don’t find elsewhere. At the entrance there was a towel for wiping shoes; inside the Room there was a Bluetooth speaker and a DVD player; in the washroom there was branded toothpaste; and in addition to the samue provided for wearing around the Ryokan, pajamas were also provided—everything was taken care of. The grounds were also well maintained, including the trees, and I felt that the autumn foliage must be beautiful. The meals were excellent in both taste and portion size. However, since the Ryokan is large, depending on your Room you may need to walk quite a bit to reach the bath and dining area. Overall, it was a Ryokan with a distinctive atmosphere unlike others, and I was very satisfied.

The perfect treat for yourself!
All staff are kind and welcoming, and the “welcome home” atmosphere feels wonderfully comforting. Dinner and breakfast are both delicious. You can fully enjoy the luxury of having the view from the open-air bath in your Room all to yourself. I would love to visit again.

The Onsen was great!
We stayed as a family at Tofuya, which I had long wanted to visit, in the “Annex” Villa Suite with a private open-air Onsen. In addition to the open-air bath in our Room, there were several other baths scattered around the property—indoor baths, open-air baths, and private reservable baths—so we could relax and fully enjoy the Onsen while taking in the riverside scenery. Depending on the bath location, there are steps and level differences, so older guests may need to take care. As it was my birthday trip, we splurged on the upgraded Special Selection Cuisine Plan—and it was absolutely the right choice! Each dish was beautifully presented and everything was delicious; our whole family was very satisfied. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration regarding breakfast due to an issue on your side. We visited the main building lobby at night and in the morning, but the only thing that concerned us was that there were no staff members present either in the lobby or at the shop. That said, we also enjoyed the adjacent bakery & table’s bread and footbath. It was our first time visiting Yoshina Onsen, and we were delighted to discover such a wonderful Onsen tucked away in Izuyama. We would love to return again.

It was a truly wonderful Accommodation where you can forget about everyday life and relax at your own pace.
This time, we stayed in a detached maisonette-style Room. Above all, the overall atmosphere and location of the Accommodation were wonderful. The buildings and Onsen are scattered across a spacious property, and simply taking in the scenery—surrounded by greenery and a river—was incredibly calming. The detached maisonette offered a great sense of privacy, so we could relax without worrying about our surroundings. The view from the Room was also beautiful, and it truly helped us unwind and forget the busyness of everyday life. What stood out most, though, was the food. Each dish was prepared with great care, and everything was genuinely delicious. We stay at various Accommodations when we travel, but the cuisine here left a particularly strong impression. Soaking in the Onsen, relaxing in nature, and enjoying excellent food— it’s a place where you can have more than enough fun just staying within the Accommodation. The on-site bakery also had a lovely atmosphere, and the bread was delicious as well. The staff were consistently polite and attentive, making our stay very comfortable. After our stay we needed to contact them with an inquiry, and they carefully confirmed the details before responding sincerely and professionally. Not only is it a wonderful Accommodation to stay at, but their support when something comes up also made it feel truly trustworthy. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with everything—the scenery, Onsen, Room, food, and staff service. I especially recommend this Accommodation to anyone who wants to slow down away from time pressures and heal in a quiet setting. When we visit Izu again, we would definitely love to stay here.

A Return After 12 Years – A Relaxing Summer
This was my second visit, and during check-in I was told that the guest register noted my previous stay was 12 years ago. I couldn’t remember how many years it had been, so I was happy to be reminded. We chose a riverside Room in the main building. The Room had a semi-open-air bath, which felt wonderful even without going to the large public bath. Of course, we also used the large public bath. As I was traveling with my elderly mother, and access to the large public bath involves stairs, it was truly great that we could stay in this Room. My mother was very pleased as well. In terms of Facilities, I feel the route to the large public bath could be designed with more universal accessibility in mind. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. I also appreciated that there were no hot pot dishes; when you take your time eating, hot pot can make you feel too full, so this worked out well for us. I think Shuzenji would also be lovely during the autumn foliage season, so I would like to stay again at that time as well.

First Stay
After viewing Tofuya’s page on IKYU.com, I really wanted to stay there and made a Reservation. The Room, baths, meals—everything was very satisfying. Just one question: I chose the Japanese breakfast; was it possible to request milk? I was able to spend a relaxing time, so I would like to stay again.

I probably wouldn’t stay here again.
Based on my experience staying here as part of a group, I will be candid. As others have noted, the Room smelled musty, and there was dust by the bedside, suggesting the cleaning was not thorough. The meals were not bad, but nothing stood out. Unfortunately the weather was poor, and the sound of rain hitting near the Room was so loud that I could not sleep well. Overall, I felt the value for money was low. The low rating in IKYU Reviews turned out to be accurate. On IKYU, it seems that mostly positive Reviews are shown first— is this by design? Since some Accommodations are booked from far away, I would like IKYU to display Reviews accurately and fairly. Choosing an Accommodation is difficult because you cannot truly know until you experience it yourself.

It was the perfect vacation.
The entrance lobby had a wonderful atmosphere, and I was captivated by the architectural style and decorative artworks. Because the air-conditioning in our reserved Room was not working properly, we were upgraded to a Room with an open-air bath, which was truly lovely. Everywhere we walked—inside the building or in the garden—was beautifully maintained. Even though it was during the Obon holiday period, we rarely ran into other guests and were able to relax completely. Since we planned to drink alcohol, the meals felt a bit large for us; it would be nice if there were also a smaller-course option. The ambiance likely changes greatly with the seasons, so this is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

I’d like to spend New Year’s here.
Upon arriving at the entrance, we handed our car over to the valet service. We checked in while seated in the spacious lobby. Our luggage was carried for us, so we were guided through the complex building to our Room without having to carry anything. The riverside maisonette Room was clean and spacious, with a calm atmosphere that made it very relaxing. In the open-air bath in the Room, we could unwind while listening to the river, without worrying about being seen. The lounge in Taishokan also had a great selection of drinks, and the variety of snacks was just right. There were plenty of Onsen facilities as well—large public baths, open-air baths, and private baths—so we really enjoyed them. The garden was so large that we couldn’t explore it all. The meals we had been looking forward to exceeded expectations; we were completely satisfied with the number of dishes, flavors, and presentation. Because we chose an anniversary Plan, the staff prepared kind celebratory messages and arranged for cake to be delivered to our Room, so we could enjoy it at a relaxed pace. They also informed their affiliated group facility where we stayed the next day—Izu Resort & Spa—about our commemorative trip, and we received warm hospitality there as well. We’d love to spend New Year’s here at this Hotel someday.

Back at Tofuya after a long time.
I recently visited Tofuya again for the first time in about 60 years and stayed one night. The Accommodation has completely changed from the old days, but the hospitality was just as wonderful as before, and I truly enjoyed my stay. The meals were delicious as well; however, the only issue was that the portions were too large for us elderly guests. As more elderly guests will be traveling in the future, we would appreciate it if there were an option to choose meals with slightly smaller portions for seniors.

You can always relax here.
We made a Reservation at the Hotel again this year! Unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy firefly viewing because it was right after a typhoon. Still, we were able to relax as usual. Lately we often request a Room in the main building, and it’s more than enough for us—if anything, it’s nice and close. It would be even better if we could book spa treatments for two at the same time. Do we just need to make the Reservation earlier?

I was satisfied with my repeat stay.
This was our first return visit to Tofuya in about four years. Compared with our previous stay, the staff’s hospitality has improved dramatically, making it an even more wonderful Accommodation. This time happened to coincide with the Bon Odori festival in the Yoshina area, held for the first time in 10 years. Many local people of all ages took part, and everyone looked like they were having a great time. Seeing your proprietress dancing along as well made it clear how closely connected Tofuya is with the community and how much it is loved. Now for our stay itself. When we visited last time, we enjoyed truly delicious cuisine and were looking forward to it again—and we were very satisfied to find that both the menu and overall quality have been well maintained since four years ago. Not only the food, but even down to details like chopsticks: just as before, properly selected rikyubashi (straight-grain) and tensoge-bashi were provided. With prices rising everywhere and many businesses cutting costs by lowering the quality of consumable items, this level of consistency can only come from a strong commitment to guest service. Hats off to Tofuya.

A Ryokan That Awakens All Five Senses
I’d been curious about this place for a long time, and I was finally able to stay here on this trip. As others have written, it truly feels like a “hideaway for adults” and a Ryokan that delights all five senses. Soaking in the semi-open-air bath in the Room while surrounded by the sound of the river was genuinely wonderful. With the recent extreme heat, I’d been sweating heavily even just from shopping, so I was a bit worried whether the Onsen would be too much—but in fact, the temperature was just right, and the water quality suited me well. Dinner was also excellent; even though summer fatigue can make it easy to lose your appetite, the refined seasoning and skillful use of acidity made everything enjoyable through to the end. I’d love to return again in a different season.

A safe and comfortable Accommodation for a relaxing stay
I stayed one night in a Japanese-Western style room in the West Wing. I chose to stay because there was a discounted Plan due to construction at Kajika-no-Yu, but the terrace next to the restaurant was also under construction, so the view during meals was not very good. Other than that, everything was as usual and I had a comfortable stay. Thank you to the proprietress and all the staff for your kindness.

A relaxing stay.
As it was my first time, I visited just to try it out without high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised in the best way. When we arrived by car, a staff member immediately came out and helped carry not only our luggage but also moved the car for us. We chose what was probably the most affordable Room with a shower and no bath. It felt a bit small, but being able to freely enjoy the drinks in the fridge and Illy coffee was a delightful service. The air conditioner felt strong even on low, and while the automatic toilet flush is convenient, it flushed several times even when not in use, which concerned me. For both dinner and breakfast, we chose Japanese cuisine. Overall it was lightly seasoned; the tableware and presentation were beautiful, and everything was delicious. However, I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t any particularly memorable flavor. The way the nori was served at breakfast was wonderful. Depending on the season, you can likely enjoy fireflies as well as cherry blossoms, wisteria, and autumn leaves. During the rainy season, please note that some areas require moving outdoors without cover, and there are places accessible only by stairs unless you are quite fit—but this is an Accommodation I want to keep visiting even as I get older. I made my next Reservation as soon as I got home. I’m looking forward to returning.

Enjoy a Solo Trip
I stayed for one night as a solo traveler, and the Accommodation offers such well-equipped Facilities both inside the building and across the grounds that I never felt bored at all, even on my own. On the property there are trekking trails and a small museum created from a traditional storehouse, so simply taking a walk is enjoyable. The free-flow lounge (including alcohol) was also very comfortable, and it was a nice touch that I could buy bread at the on-site bakery and relax until check-in. Thoughtful details made the entire stay comfortable before and after as well—for example, being able to wait for the shuttle bus in the lounge even after check-out. As for the Onsen, I was able to use a private bath once, which let me fully enjoy different types of baths. The day I stayed it was relatively quiet, so even the large public bath felt almost private—I had an incredibly luxurious time. The only slight disappointment was the food. Everything was carefully prepared and delicious, but I think my satisfaction would have been even higher if there had been one particularly memorable dish that felt truly unique to this Accommodation. Even so, with its excellent Facilities and overall comfort, it’s an Accommodation where you can genuinely relax even when traveling alone. I’d love to visit again.

The meals were delicious, and everyone provided very courteous and friendly service, so we had a wonderful time. The Accommodation’s layout was quite complex and we often got lost, but since it was a relaxed trip, we enjoyed that as part of the experience. Calligraphy on the second floor of Taishokan
When dining on the second floor of Taishokan, I came across a wonderful piece of calligraphy. There was no description, so I asked the attendant, but they did not know. When I asked Gemini, I received the following explanation: It said this work is a dynamic calligraphic rendering of a poem (or an excerpt) themed around Mt. Fuji by the great Shizuoka-born novelist Yasushi Inoue, who deeply loved Mt. Fuji. Transcription (the written text): “White Fuji, Green Fuji, Red Fuji—Fuji, Fuji; Fuji, Fuji; Lamp-lit Fuji; Vast Fuji—Fuji, Fuji; The world’s Fuji—by shining alone it is truly Fuji; it is truly Fuji.” Signature/seal (lower left): It appears to read “Kotaro poem / Yasu” (or content composed by Yasushi Inoue inspired by Kotaro’s poem), or possibly Inoue’s own signature such as “Yasu” with an accompanying seal. This was Gemini’s answer and I cannot confirm whether it is accurate. However, I feel it may be close to the truth. If possible, could you prepare a brief description for this piece at Tofuya?

I’m staying again and recommending it to friends.
Because our last stay was so wonderful, I stayed again while introducing it to friends. I wanted to try staying in the kura Room, so we booked this time. There were four of us, but the first-floor living area was spacious, there were two washbasins, and there were two toilets—one on the first floor and one on the second—so even with four people it felt very roomy and comfortable. By chance an accident occurred, and the next morning the proprietress apologized; their communication and follow-through were excellent. Also, every staff member greeted us without fail wherever we met them—truly wonderful service. After breakfast they suggested we enjoy dessert on the terrace; surrounded by fresh greenery and listening to the river flow, we had dessert and coffee and spent a very relaxing time. Not only is the Accommodation’s atmosphere lovely, but their hospitality is outstanding as well—it’s a truly wonderful Accommodation. We also enjoyed using the lounge at our leisure, and in this season we were thrilled to be able to watch fireflies. We’ll be back again—now I’m wondering which Room to choose next time (laugh). Thank you very much.

Vast grounds Firefly viewing Luxurious dining
The Room was spotless and beyond reproach. The meals were excellent and delicious, but because the dining area was open, we could clearly hear other guests’ conversations and felt we had to be considerate. It was a little disappointing that the Onsen in the open-air bath in the Room was heated rather than free-flowing from the source. We were very fortunate to be able to watch fireflies on the grounds; a staff member serving our meal told us about it and showed us where to go. After a 30–40 minute hike up the mountain within the vast property, there is a spot with views of Mt. Fuji, and our morning walk worked up a pleasant sweat.

We would love to stay here again.
I stayed in the Hikari (134) Room (Detached Villa Suite with Open-Air Onsen Bath (Japanese-Western Style)). In addition to its very spacious layout, the amenities were excellent—for example, there were plenty of power outlets throughout, and in addition to yukata, samue and pajamas were also provided. Everything was very convenient, and I was able to enjoy a completely stress-free holiday. The bath and meals were also very satisfying, and the staff’s thoughtful hospitality at every point—front desk, dining, lounge, and more—was outstanding. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

A Relaxing Accommodation
This was an Accommodation I had wanted to stay at for a long time, and it exceeded my expectations. We arrived early, had a light lunch at the bakery footbath café, and even though it was well before check-in time, we were shown to our Room. That thoughtfulness made me very happy. The grounds are spacious, so you can stroll around and explore. The lounge offers complimentary drinks and can be used even after check-out, so you can relax at your leisure. The Room was large and spotless, with excellent amenities. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the staff were extremely courteous. The Western-style breakfast seems especially popular; I could only get a late time slot, so I wish I had made a Reservation earlier. Any leftover bread can be taken home. There are also yukata and samue to choose from, but I appreciated having pajamas for sleeping. There was a basket for women’s items as well, which was convenient when going to the baths or meals. The only disappointment was that the zori sandals in the Room hurt my feet—I would have preferred slippers as well. Other than that, everything was perfect; all staff members greeted us properly whenever we passed them, which felt wonderful. I would love to stay again in a different season and in a different Room.

My first trip with a friend, just the two of us.
Three years ago, I visited Tofuya for the first time with my husband. This time, as a two-person trip with my 80-year-old friend, we chose Tofuya with the cuisine, Onsen, and hospitality in mind. The evening firefly-viewing event was truly moving—I saw so many fireflies for the first time in my life. My friend said it was the best or second-best Accommodation she has ever stayed at, and she was very happy, which made me happy too. She also said she would like to come again in early autumn with her daughter and son-in-law. I would love to visit again as well so I can show my husband the fireflies. Thank you very much.
