    Allergens

    I stayed on February 28. I was able to relax and feel refreshed, but I had informed you in advance that my companion has an apple allergy, and this was also confirmed at check-in. However, at breakfast we were served a menu containing apple with no changes. We only noticed because staff later explained an ingredient substitution for an apple allergy to another table, and when that guest said it wasn’t them, we realized it might have been meant for our table. We had already eaten it by then. Fortunately nothing serious happened, but since this is a life-threatening issue, I was disappointed with the response from an Accommodation costing over 100,000 yen. There were only two parties having the Western-style breakfast including us, so if the other party did not have an allergy, I believe you should have realized it was ours.

    The staff’s warmth and care truly shine through.

    This was my first stay. From the front desk to every member of staff, everyone greeted me with smiles and warm words—the service was outstanding. The water in the open-air bath in the Room felt wonderfully soft, and I enjoyed it again and again. Dinner was delicious from start to finish, and I was amazed by the number of dishes! The amenities were also well stocked. I wanted to try the indoor bath and the outdoor open-air bath, but it was so windy that I couldn’t bring myself to leave my Room, so I regret not going. I’d love to visit again.

    The property is spacious, and the Onsen was great.

    A large, beautiful lobby building, with guest Rooms located in the Main Building, West Wing, and separate annexes. Since it was my first stay, I chose the Main Building as a safe option. The Room was clean and spacious, and I was told the in-room bath uses Onsen water, but I didn’t use it because I visited the six indoor baths and open-air baths instead. The grounds are spacious, so after check-in I took a walk and visited the lounge. The lounge drinks and snacks were disappointing. I wish the coffee were illy like in the Room or freshly brewed from beans (it was coffee kept in a pot). The quality of the snacks wasn’t good either—sorry to say it felt like the kind of snacks you might find at a funeral hall. I’ve stayed at many hotels with lounges, and this was by far the worst. The buildings and atmosphere were great, which made it even more disappointing. The open-air bath was cold due to the weather but felt wonderful. I couldn’t make a Reservation for a private bath that day, so I used the regular open-air bath and indoor bath instead—there was no one there, so it felt like having them to myself. The water quality was good, but I noticed a slight smell of disinfectant. Dinner portions were generous. The flavors were slightly on the strong side. For breakfast I chose Western-style cuisine on the second floor of the lounge building—the atmosphere was excellent. There was so much bread that I couldn’t finish it; I wish leftovers could be taken back. It’s convenient that you can place a Reservation at the bakery shop for grape bread and curry bread and pick them up at checkout time the next day. The curry bread was delicious. After checkout, since we were there anyway, we hiked to Fujimidaira within the property grounds. It was cloudy so we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji, but we still enjoyed it. I imagine it must be beautiful during cherry blossom season and in autumn as well.

    It was a truly wonderful accommodation.

    We were talking about going somewhere for our wedding anniversary, and my husband said he wanted an Onsen, so we chose Tofuya, which I’d been wanting to visit for a long time. It was also discounted at the time. Since it was right after snowfall, there was still some snow left, but it was a truly wonderful Accommodation. There were indoor baths and private open-air baths; there wasn’t a bath in the Room, but it wasn’t inconvenient. There was a lounge as well, and my husband was happy he could have beer. We arrived at 3:00 p.m., so we went to the lounge right after getting to our Room. I went by myself to check out the bakery and bought some bread, then came back to the lounge. We relaxed there while eating bread and enjoying beer, coffee, and juice. Since we chose a later dinner time, we returned to our Room first, enjoyed the indoor bath and a private open-air bath, and then went to dinner. My husband usually doesn’t eat much, but he ate a lot this time. He was impressed by how delicious everything was. We had shabu-shabu with plenty of both beef and pork—so much that we couldn’t finish it—but everything had thoughtful touches and tasted great. For breakfast we chose the Western-style option. It rained that morning so getting there was a bit of a hassle, but the bread was delicious and I ended up eating plenty. The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked too; I prefer omelets though, so I would have been happy if an omelet option had been available. We were glad we could take it easy until the 11:00 a.m. checkout as well. We’ve been saying that we’d love to come again while we’re still able to walk around comfortably.

    We had a wonderful time.

    Now that things have settled down with childcare, three mom friends and I treated ourselves to a little luxury. The Room, the meals, and the baths were all outstanding—of course, the staff’s service as well. In addition to the bath in our Room, there were many other baths, and towels were provided, so we enjoyed four different baths over two days. The Rooms seemed fully booked, but because there are so many baths, it never felt crowded at any time and we could relax—something we really appreciated.

    Favorite Accommodation

    Every time I stay here, I’m reminded that choosing this Accommodation was the right decision—it’s truly wonderful. All of the staff are pleasant, and they even remembered our casual conversation last time about yukata and reflected it properly, which made me happy to feel that they understand my preferences. The meals are also exactly to my taste. From start to finish, you can feel the chef’s creativity throughout, and it’s outstanding. After dinner, I relaxed at the spa and was able to fall into a deep sleep. I’m a big fan of this Accommodation and will continue to stay here often in the future.

    Breakfast

    I have stayed at this Accommodation several times and it is one of my favorites. I would love to visit again, so I would appreciate it if you could improve the following points. 1) The shower at Kajika-no-Yu was the type that stops after a set time. In the cold semi-open-air setting, it kept stopping while I was washing my hair, which was inconvenient. 2) I chose the Western-style breakfast because I was looking forward to the delicious bread, but I was disappointed that it wasn’t warm. When I visited Izuhotel in December, I was impressed by piping-hot croissants, so this was especially disappointing. Since you have a bakery, I would like to enjoy the bread at its best. 3) For coffee, I would prefer milk rather than coffee creamer. 4) Part of the tuna at dinner had turned brown. Please serve fresher fish. 5) Every time, I feel it would be nice if women could use Gyoki-no-Yu on the first day as well. I would love to soak there while looking at the stars. This may sound a bit harsh, but you provided plenty of towels and I truly enjoyed nothing but the Onsen. Thank you very much.

    I visited in Decembe...

    I visited in December, when traces of autumn colors still remained. I really appreciated the newly available Shuttle Service to Shuzenji Station. The Room, the lush garden surrounded by nature, the Onsen, and the retro Taisho-kan building were all wonderful. Dinner included splendid alfonsino, but I’m not very fond of it, so I wished there were a prix fixe or selectable options. I would love to visit again.

    One night is not enough.

    I wish I could have stayed for two nights. The place was very clean and beautiful. The outdoor baths were so relaxing that I could stay in them for a long time. However, the distance from the front desk was challenging (especially since I had back and leg pain). It was also disappointing that I couldn't use the foot bath at the adjacent shop because it was full. I'd love to stay here again!

    Accommodation after 10 years

    Refresh

    I enjoyed a hike up to Fujimidaira and admired the view of Mount Fuji after a long time. It was a great way to get some exercise! Afterward, I relaxed in the Onsen and treated myself to a draft beer at my usual spot, Taishokan, feeling grateful as always. Dinner was the usual kaiseki cuisine—a blissful experience. Thank you very much!

    Water in the electric kettle

    One of our group members used a wheelchair, and the provision of a high chair in the room was very helpful. However, as it is an older ryokan with a large property, moving around was somewhat challenging from an accessibility perspective (though we were aware of the facility details beforehand, so this is not a complaint). Overall, it is a wonderful accommodation, but there was one issue. When attempting to use the electric kettle provided in the room and opening its lid, we found about 200ml of water left inside. Leaving water in an electric kettle is not acceptable and poses hygiene concerns. While the food was delicious and the onsen experience excellent, it was disappointing to see such oversight in maintenance checks.

    Onsen Trip

    After much deliberation, I made a last-minute reservation and stayed here. There are four baths available, and the open-air onsen was especially refreshing, allowing me to fully enjoy the experience. The facility is spacious with various amenities; exploring and enjoying the all-you-can-drink service made an hour pass by quickly. The staff were kind, making my stay pleasant. I was able to enjoy a rare escape from everyday life. Thank you very much!

    The staff provided exceptionally polite service, allowing for a pleasant and comfortable stay throughout. Their gentle communication and attentive responses made this accommodation feel very reassuring. I was especially delighted that the birthday surprise I had requested in advance for my partner was perfectly arranged in the room. The thoughtful attention to our request created a wonderful memory. The facility as a whole had a calm atmosphere, offering a relaxing escape from daily life. The onsen was incredibly soothing, providing both physical and mental rejuvenation. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay; however, there were minor points of concern. In the bath changing area, there were spots where dust had accumulated, which gave an impression that cleaning might not be thorough in some areas. Additionally, during meals, while our slower eating pace may have contributed to this feeling, it seemed like the staff serving us were mindful of time and appeared slightly rushed. This gave off an impression of being hurried at times. Since their dedication to service was evident, having more relaxed pacing could enhance the overall dining experience. Even so, at checkout we received a warm send-off from many staff members with great care and attention—leaving us with a very positive impression. In summary, this is truly an excellent accommodation with great potential to become an even more remarkable ryokan in the future. It was such an enjoyable stay that I would love to return again!

    Hatsutofuya: Looking forward to the future.

    Atami and Yugawara are our usual accommodations, but this time we ventured to Yoshina Onsen after a long while. It was our first time at Tofuya. My wife had previously visited Sagazawa-kan and was very much looking forward to this trip. From check-in to being shown to the room, the service was exceptionally polite, leaving a great impression. Our room this time was "Shugetsu" in the West Wing, a Japanese-Western style room with a semi-open-air onsen bath overlooking the Yoshina River. While it showed its age in some aspects, every detail was well-maintained. The onsen water was clear, odorless, and at an ideal temperature for long soaks. The open-air bath "Gyoki no Yu" provided a private and relaxing experience. The in-room bath also allowed us to unwind while enjoying views of the Yoshina River. The meals—both dinner and breakfast—left an impression of being simple Japanese cuisine prepared with care but somewhat lacking in bold flavors or creativity that could add more character. A disappointment during breakfast was the grilled seaweed cooked over charcoal; it lacked crispness and left us wondering about its quality. Additionally, the post-meal coffee wasn’t drinkable beyond one sip—a rather disheartening end to an otherwise pleasant stay. On a brighter note, despite low expectations for their bakery (which seemed aimed at Instagram appeal), their curry bread exceeded all expectations—we couldn’t even wait until we got home before devouring it in the car. Overall, with its rich history and outstanding location, this accommodation has great potential if improvements are made—especially regarding meals which need continuous innovation to remain competitive. We look forward to seeing how they evolve moving forward!

    The garden is spacious.

    The room was spacious and comfortable, featuring a twin bed Western-style area, a Japanese-style room, and a sofa. Due to the large property, it takes a bit of walking from the front desk to reach the room. There are public baths and private Onsen available for various experiences. The bathroom in the room is also a semi-open-air bath with excellent water quality and temperature, allowing you to enjoy the scenery during the day. It made me want to revisit during cherry blossom season. Both dinner and breakfast included some New Year's dishes; however, the dinner presentation was adorable and everything was delicious. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality!

    It was my first stay...

    It was my first stay at this accommodation, which I had been curious about for a while. The interior was spaciously designed, offering a blend of new and traditional charm. All the staff were kind, making my stay very pleasant. The dinner was especially delicious. There were New Year decorations that added to the festive atmosphere, allowing me to enjoy a calm and relaxing meal. Since the premises are vast and I couldn't explore everything, I'm considering a multiple night stay next time. Thank you very much!

    Always enjoying!

    On the day, there was a curry bread fair at the bakery, and we bought various breads from different shops. We also received a gift through a lottery (the dried fish set had more than expected and was enjoyable after returning home). Relaxed with draft beer at Taishokan. Once again, we were full with shabu-shabu! Apologies for asking for multiple refills of seaweed during breakfast—it was absolutely delicious. Already looking forward to planning our next stay!

    Delighted with the bath and special kaiseki meal!

    I stayed with my mother during the New Year. The location is very convenient, just a 40-minute Shinkansen ride from Shinagawa to Mishima, followed by another 40 minutes to Shuzenji. The Onsen facilities were wonderful, featuring a spacious indoor bath, two open-air baths, and two private baths. None of them were crowded, allowing us to relax and enjoy various baths at our own pace. For dinner, we upgraded to a special Kaiseki meal. Each dish was served in perfect portions and stood out for its exceptional taste and freshness. I would love to visit again for special occasions or anniversaries. Thank you very much!

    New Year's Couple's Trip

    We had a relaxing New Year as a couple. Having visited the bakery multiple times, I always thought it was a wonderful accommodation and wanted to stay there someday. Since it was our first time, we stayed in the main building and felt like we got an overall sense of the place. Next time, I would love to stay in one of the Kura rooms. The interior decorations and fresh flowers placed throughout the accommodation created a soothing atmosphere that made us feel at ease. All staff members were polite and attentive, ensuring excellent hospitality at every turn. Although we rarely have opportunities to stay somewhere during New Year's, we were deeply impressed by the traditional Osechi breakfast dishes served here. Additionally, with unlimited drinks available in the lounge, we enjoyed bread from their bakery as takeout for a late lunch on our first day there. The open-air baths offered both cypress wood and rock bath versions for variety, while some rooms also came with private baths—ensuring no crowding in shared facilities so that guests could relax fully. The indoor bath's washing area even featured chairs designed with higher seating—a thoughtful touch for those with mobility challenges. While our room itself was cozy and calming, features like walking paths and spacious gardens added an open feeling of freedom that allowed us to unwind completely. We loved everything about this place so much that we've decided to make it our regular accommodation moving forward!

    Second Stay

    The first stay was in the Kura, where we enjoyed soaking our feet in the footbath while eating delicious bread, creating wonderful memories. For this second stay in December, we couldn't choose a room due to late reservation. The room layout had a single-person shower room and a semi-open-air bath located across from the bedroom. It was inconvenient to take a shower, wrap in a towel, walk through the room, and then move to the semi-open-air bath. It would have been helpful if this had been explained during the reservation process. Additionally, it was disappointing to see piles of dust when opening and closing the shower room door. Considering that the room rate during this period is more than double its usual price, expectations were naturally high... We prefer staying inside our room and used the semi-open-air bath there—it was absolutely fantastic! Dinner and breakfast were delicious as well, and staff members provided excellent service. Next time, we hope to stay in a different type of room!

    I had a relaxing time.

    Both the facilities and services were excellent. We also enjoyed hiking on the hill behind the property. The only regret is that we didn’t stay for two nights.

    Excellent!!

    10 years ago, I discovered Tofuya Resort by chance, and it is a wonderful accommodation that beautifully blends Japanese and Western styles. The spacious rooms, the onsen water, the meals—everything is satisfying. The various onsen spots with plenty of towels available are also a big plus! Even when I visit other accommodations occasionally... I still find Tofuya to be the best! I love the warm and cozy atmosphere! The staff's relaxed yet attentive hospitality is also something I truly appreciate!

    Simply outstanding.

    As the name suggests, this resort offers a luxurious experience where you can stroll through the vast grounds with a flowing river or relax in three types of Onsen (Room, indoor, and open-air). The lounge in the annex provides free drinks, and the meals were exceptionally delicious. I would love to visit again!

    The maisonette type ...

    The maisonette type seemed a bit troublesome at first, but it turned out to be the right choice as it was spacious and allowed everyone to relax in their favorite spots. The open-air Onsen by the riverside had a great view and was truly wonderful. With large public baths and private baths available, Onsen lovers can fully enjoy soaking during their stay. It was also nice to have drinks like alcohol in the lounge after bathing. The facility is spacious with features like a bakery, making it enjoyable for walks as well.

    Disappointing despite high expectations.

    The expansive grounds are truly wonderful, and I believe this accommodation has the potential to become a renowned ryokan. However, the lack of lighting on the premises made it difficult to navigate, and I almost tripped or missed steps several times due to the dimness. The aging infrastructure and outdated ventilation systems, combined with insufficient cleaning, have resulted in noticeable humidity and a musty smell in every room, restaurant area, and even the changing rooms at the onsen. Dinnerware used for evening meals had significant wear on its lacquer coating; breakfast trays were also worn out. Many parts of the facility show signs of neglect without proper repairs. Items like bath stools and buckets were old and discolored as well. Overall, there was a lack of cleanliness and luxury throughout. Even at the drink bar corner, snacks provided were inexpensive options—chocolates that seemed more suited for casual snack bars rather than reflecting any unique touch from this accommodation. While there are attempts to imitate high-end ryokans in certain aspects, overall management and presentation do not justify the price point. The property itself holds immense charm; I hope improvements will be made moving forward!

    No barrier-free access

    Excellent location and natural surroundings. I was very satisfied with the semi-open-air bath in the room with an open-air bath. The meals were of a decent standard. I appreciated being allowed to check in early despite arriving ahead of schedule. However, the biggest drawback is that it is not barrier-free. Both the large public bath and open-air baths are only accessible via steep stairs, with no elevators or escalators available. As a result, I had to give up using the large public bath entirely. It is not suitable at all for elderly guests who may have mobility issues. It’s a good Ryokan, but unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to return again. Thank you for your hospitality!
