[Annex Kotobukitei] Stayed in a suite with an open-air Onsen bath. Check-in was at the same small front desk as general guests, and we had to wait a very long time. It was disappointing for a suite stay. Also, the explanation about the dining location differed depending on the staff member, which was confusing... The Room smelled musty as soon as we entered, which was disappointing. The Room’s open-air bath, the garden view from the veranda rocking chair, and the seasonal meals were all very nice. The attendant who served our meals was very pleasant and courteous. Online it said there was a coin laundry, but we were told there wasn’t one, which was disappointing.

    Kind.

I made a Reservation after watching an introduction video on YouTube. Right after arriving, the staff helped promptly with parking and moving our luggage. Check-in was also quick and smooth. The Room was spacious, with a wide view of the countryside from the window. The Room had two toilets: one men’s-style urinal and one Western-style toilet. The washbasin area is by the window, so it feels open and airy. It’s an older Room with a nostalgic layout. Meals were buffet-style, just like in the video, and everything was very delicious. The seating is semi-private, so you don’t have to worry about people around you. There are so many menu items that it can be hard to decide what to choose. At the breakfast buffet, we could enjoy the drink bar and Häagen-Dazs ice cream just like at dinner. At the restaurant entrance, a staff member greeted guests in a loud voice even from far away when they noticed us, which made me really happy. It reminded me of my childhood—teachers waiting at the school gate to greet students. In the evening, a staff member explained how the buffet works and how to order paid alcoholic drinks. They came back to our table again later and took a family photo for us. I really appreciated all their thoughtful care. The Onsen was spacious, and there were only a few other guests, so we could relax comfortably. We chose this Hotel for its buffet and all-inclusive plan, but thanks to the kind service as well, we left feeling warm and satisfied. At large hotels things can sometimes feel routine, but here we felt genuine hospitality until the very end.

Worth visiting even just for the food.

As there are Rooms of various ranks, I can’t speak for the Accommodation overall, but the Room I stayed in was neither particularly good nor bad. What stood out most was the food, just as its reputation suggests. The buffet offered an overwhelming variety, and dinner in particular was delicious. There was grilled fish including salt-grilled young sweetfish; I’m not sure if it was wild-caught, but even the slight bitterness of the innards came through. The saikyo-yaki black cod was also at a level you’d expect from a kappo restaurant as an à la carte dish. The steak quality was good as well, and I was surprised to see plenty of high-quality mango at breakfast—something you don’t often find at other Ryokan. The lounge iced coffee was as good as what you’d get at a convenience store, and I refilled it many times. Overall, the staff seemed well trained: they worked efficiently, each person took their responsibilities seriously, and there was a strong sense of teamwork.

The best hospitality—helping me with a forgotten item!

We stayed with you at the beginning of August. We visited with 2 adults and 3 children (6th grade, 3rd grade, and kindergarten), and everyone was extremely satisfied. Our Room was the Deluxe Kousuiden with an open-air bath, and the atmosphere of the private open-air bath was amazing—our kids went in so many times we lost count! (LOL) Of course, the shared baths were also excellent, and since towels are provided there, we never had to worry about running out no matter how many times we bathed. The dinner buffet wasn’t “buffet-level” at all—it was truly delicious! The sushi, steak, and Häagen-Dazs were all fantastic. It was so good that I even managed to drink less alcohol than usual (LOL). The Facility options for kids were also great (arcade games, lounge, water play area outside the lounge, table tennis, etc.), and our family promised we would definitely come back. Also, my wife accidentally left her wallet in the safe when we checked out. Since we had to catch the dinosaur train, we didn’t have time to go back for it—but your staff checked immediately and reassured us so we could keep enjoying our day without worry. It arrived by mail the day after we got home, which really helped. We’ll definitely come visit again!

    Third stay—absolutely amazing!

We were truly impressed and grateful for your thoughtful consideration for our elderly family member, including the upgrade to a more spacious Room and helping us choose the best seating during dinner. This was our third stay, mainly for my father, who loves the large lounge, the all-inclusive plan, and the luxurious dinner buffet. Each time we visit, it feels like the service and cuisine have become even better. With features like handrails and minimal steps throughout, we felt genuine hospitality across the entire Ryokan—an outstanding Onsen Ryokan.

    It exceeded my expectations.

The large public bath, meals, lounge, and Room were all excellent. The staff greeted us warmly and made a great impression. Thanks to them, we felt refreshed. We would definitely like to stay again if we have the chance.

    Satisfied again.

This was our second stay, following last year’s visit. Check-in was smooth, and the Room was spacious and clean. We were very satisfied with the meal selection, with a wide variety of dishes starting from the appetizers. The grilled fish and sushi were delicious, but we ate too much and didn’t make it to the salt-grilled ayu, which was a shame. The corn tempura was also excellent. There were many options that suited our elementary and middle school-aged sons as well, and our younger son said he wished we could have stayed one more night. The staff also made a great impression, and we would like to stay again.

Wi‑Fi is completely unavailable. Customer complaints are ignored.

Although the Accommodation advertises free Wi‑Fi, it was not usable at all. The signal was far too weak. Even after informing the staff, there was no follow-up. They completely ignored the guest complaint. What is going on with customer service? They should invest more in the Wi‑Fi Facility. These days, it’s unacceptable for an Accommodation to have unusable Wi‑Fi.

    We stayed with our 0...

We stayed with our 0-year-old baby, and it was wonderful. - We chose a connecting two-room layout so we could put the baby to sleep first. Our baby happily crawled around the spacious Room all day. - The paid baby crib was quite large and roomy, which was great. - The Room with an open-air bath was perfect for our baby’s first Onsen experience. We hadn’t requested it, but a baby bath had been prepared in advance, which really helped. - The kids’ space on the first floor was spacious and new, with a dedicated baby area. I think a 0-year-old could enjoy it for about an hour. We went every day for three days. - If you ask the staff, they will warm up baby food in the microwave, but it would be very helpful to have a microwave guests can use freely in the lounge or similar area. - At the buffet restaurant, we appreciated having items our baby could eat—plain yogurt and bananas at breakfast, and boiled pork and grapes at dinner. We didn’t use them, but there were also Kewpie jarred baby foods for early/middle stages. You need to bring your own bib/apron. - The lounge “Kangetsu” was open in the morning as well, unlike what was stated on the website and chatbot Q&A. - There were also washing machines and dryers, again different from what was stated on the website and chatbot Q&A. - We were worried after seeing Reviews mentioning insects, but we had no issues (the open-air bath did have some bugs, but that seems unavoidable). - All staff members were kind. Overall, it felt like even better services were available than what was described on the website and chatbot Q&A. However, if we had known in advance we might have packed less—so we would appreciate it if you could update the website and chatbot Q&A with the latest information.

    We’ll be back!

First time staying here. From the cheerful and courteous front desk service at check-in, to the all-inclusive drink service, and a clean, comfortable Room, I knew I was glad I came. The buffet-style dinner and breakfast offered not only a wide variety of dishes but also creative use of local ingredients—absolutely satisfying! Of course, I also enjoyed the baths, and with the warm send-off, I decided to stay again in the near future.

The alcohol-free lounge and buffet are excellent.

We chose this Accommodation because we were drawn to Reviews saying the buffet was outstanding, and they were absolutely right—we were truly satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. If I had to be picky, it would have been even better if breakfast also offered freshly squeezed orange juice. The staff, including team members from overseas, provided warm and heartfelt hospitality that really impressed us—thank you very much. The next day, the breakfast buffet at our Hotel in Kanazawa felt genuinely underwhelming by comparison.

    Delicious cuisine

Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style, and we really enjoyed them. The rice was delicious. They kindly went out of their way to ask if we needed anything, so I requested larger slippers because the thong straps were hurting my feet. However, they didn’t have a larger size, which was inconvenient. Zori sandals can make your toes hurt.

This is a wonderful Onsen Accommodation.

As reputed, this Accommodation had a room with an open-air bath, and the panoramic large public bath was wonderful. Also, the kaiseki cuisine Plan was beautifully presented through to the end, and every dish was delicious. The staff were courteous, making this a very good Hotel.

    See you again next year!!

My 86-year-old father said he wanted to travel, so the three of us—my husband and I and my father—stayed here. It was a trip he had been looking forward to for so long, and during our stay he even said, “Let’s come back here again next year!” This Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way—food, hospitality, everything. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes in smaller portions, and every single item was delicious. I can only describe it as outstanding. The baths were spacious as well, and we were able to relax and enjoy them at our leisure. Above all, the inclusive drinks were truly appreciated. Honestly, I want to make a Reservation right now for a New Year’s trip with my sons too, but I’m worried about snowfall… Still, I’m determined to bring my father here at least once a year. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

I made a Reservation because I’d always wanted to stay here.

I made a Reservation mainly to enjoy crab elsewhere, and thought I’d also stop by for the Onsen. It was featured in JTB’s “Yuga Hanayagi,” so I’d been curious about it for some time. The Onsen was average. Nothing exceeded my expectations. I wouldn’t recommend it to those looking for great food. Sorry if this sounds harsh. It may suit guests who like today’s popular all-inclusive style. It may also be a good fit for those who enjoy buffets.

Highly satisfied with the excellent services

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and well taken care of, and the meal we had been looking forward to was wonderful—beautifully presented, delicious, and very filling. The staff were also very kind. The drink service was so extensive that we couldn’t even try everything, and we were extremely satisfied. The large public bath was very spacious and relaxing. One thing: since our room was in an annex, it was a long walk to the large public bath in yukata sandals, and they didn’t fit well so they were hard to wear, which was disappointing. Overall, it was a great Ryokan where we could relax and take our time.

I want to stay here again!

My first time in Fukui Prefecture, and the hospitality here made me truly glad we chose this Accommodation! Right after we arrived, the staff welcomed us with smiles and check-in was smooth. From the all-inclusive lounge, we could see my favorite dinosaurs and a Japanese garden, and even in the rain it had a wonderful atmosphere. I love buffets and have tried many, but this was by far the most delicious. Everything tasted amazing! It was also my first time having buffet sushi that was this good. Our Room was in Sakuratei—spacious, with two air conditioners (one near the entrance and one by the bed). At night we could set a timer just for the entrance-side unit, which made for an ideal layout. The indoor bath isn’t fed by natural hot spring water, but it was large, clean, and very satisfying. When I opened the bathroom window, I could hear frogs croaking—it was incredibly soothing. The same was true at the open-air spa bath; the setting is fantastic. When we left, the proprietress and staff waved us off, and from that moment I knew I wanted to come back! A wonderful Hotel close to Tojinbo Cliffs, Eiheiji Temple, and the Dinosaur Museum—with beautiful rural scenery as well.

    It exceeded my expectations.

We enjoyed a complimentary draft beer in the free lounge after our bath as a welcome drink. We reserved a detached Room, and there was a hinoki cypress bath nearby, so we could relax without running into large groups at the public bath. We chose the buffet on purpose, and with many staff at the live kitchen counter preparing everything right in front of us, every dish was satisfying.

    Relaxing Accommodation

I’ve stayed here many times, and the quality keeps improving with each visit—this is a truly wonderful Accommodation. The buffet was great not only at dinner, but also at breakfast; there was a wide variety of dishes, and every one of them was delicious. If possible, I’d be happy if the dinner buffet could be extended to a 2-hour time limit. The service is also polite and excellent. However, it was disappointing that the footbath was closed. The Onsen eggs were no longer available, but in return the selection of drinks and snacks was very satisfying. As for the Room, the air conditioner wasn’t working well, which was a bit inconvenient. Still, I’m glad it was a spacious Room. I’d definitely love to stay again!

    The buffet was amazing!!

The buffet was amazing—everything was delicious! I wished I had a bigger appetite. The Onsen had great water quality, and both the Room and the entire property were spotless and well maintained. Fukui is a wonderful place. The long drive was tiring, but I’d love to visit again.

Revisited after two and a half years.

We revisited this time for the dinner buffet. As expected, the dishes were colorful and delicious. The staff also showed great hospitality—providing a cart for my mother, who has difficulty walking, and kindly chatting with my talkative father—which made the meal even more enjoyable. At checkout, however, a staff member cleaning the entrance glass did not stop and there was no send-off. My parents were disappointed as well. It was unfortunate.

Thank you for your heartfelt hospitality.

We stayed as a group of three, including an elderly guest in their 90s with mild dementia and a guest in their 80s with a disability who is almost blind. From arrival to departure, the staff watched over us attentively and provided warm support at exactly the right moments. This eased our worries before the trip and allowed us to spend our time very comfortably. It became a truly wonderful memory. The meals served in a private dining room were all beautifully presented, and we were impressed by the delicious, carefully prepared dishes made with plenty of local ingredients. The free drinks and lounge services were also excellent. With a lovely view of the courtyard, the entire property felt refined and high quality. When we visit Awara Onsen again, we would definitely like to stay here again. Thank you very much.

    We were extremely satisfied.

We stayed here because it was relatively close to the Dinosaur Museum. The meals were wonderful, just as we had heard. The meat and small appetizers were beautifully presented with great taste, and everything was delicious. There were so many options that we couldn’t finish them all, which was a shame. We had a guest Room with an open-air bath, and it was great to be able to bathe whenever we liked with 24-hour free-flowing hot spring water. The garden attached to the Room also had a charming atmosphere and really caught our eye. Since we booked three weeks in advance, only a Japanese-style Room was available, so we slept on futons. We usually sleep in beds, so it was disappointing that the futon felt firm and I couldn’t sleep soundly. For families with children, I think it’s spacious and very nice. We’d like to stay again with our children or grandchildren.

    It was comfortable.

We drove there, but work ran late and we arrived later than planned. We just made it in time for dinner, but I regret not being able to relax more. Dinner was delicious, and the fatty tuna sushi was outstanding. There were two baths plus a private open-air bath in our room, and we felt refreshed again and again. We also loved the all-inclusive plan that let us spend our time however we liked. We would definitely like to visit again.

I was satisfied with my second stay.

We stayed at this Hotel on a Hokuriku trip two years ago and had a very positive impression, so we chose it again as the first Accommodation of our latest Hokuriku trip, where my sister met up with my spouse and me at Awara Onsen. The Room we had last time, with an open-air bath, was great, but this time all of us are over 70 and have some difficulty getting in and out of futons, so we chose a larger two-bedroom Room. It was spacious with a great view from the window, and the sofa area was comfortable, allowing us to relax at ease. For dinner we selected the Wakasa beef shabu-shabu kaiseki course, and were very satisfied with both the content and high quality, including the sashimi presentation. The baths were spacious and not overly crowded, so we could enjoy not only the main bath but also a jacuzzi tub and an open-air bath in comfort. It also happened to be raining when we were due to depart, so we canceled nearby sightseeing plans and relaxed in the lounge instead; the service there was also satisfying. The only disappointment—though it was my mistake for not checking—was that when I combined payment for my sister’s souvenirs with ours at checkout, her purchase was not canceled properly, resulting in her being charged twice.

    We stayed this time ...

We stayed this time mainly for the buffet, and it was excellent just as the Reviews said. All of the staff were polite and helpful. However, the Room was small and felt a bit dated in places. For our next stay, we are considering Koshidabukitei, but since its Reviews do not seem very good, we would like to stay there if improvements such as renovations are made. Also, when I went back later to get soft drinks at Kokomichitei, everything was gone and had not been replenished, so I would like them to check regularly and restock. During the buffet there were many foreign guests and the perfume smell was very strong; I started to feel sick partway through eating nearby, so I would appreciate some consideration with seating arrangements. Overall, we would like to visit again and hope these points will be improved.

    Annex

I stayed here because I wanted to visit Awara Onsen. Since my companion is elderly, we chose a Room with an open-air bath. The Room had two Japanese-style rooms; one had a dining table, probably used back when in-room dining was offered, but now it feels pointless and just gets in the way. The open-air bath seemed wonderful, but the Room’s air conditioning didn’t work very well, and the futon bedding was so-so. The meals were lavish, but there wasn’t anything particularly unique to this area—just nicely presented. Having shabu-shabu for breakfast felt a bit flashy and off-putting; for city people, delicious dried fish can feel more “luxurious,” in my opinion. Overall, I think this Accommodation is best enjoyed by staying in a standard Room and making the most of the buffet.

    Sakuratei Suite Stay

The best part was the delicious food. Overall, the quality was very high. Our child was delighted with the macarons. The large public bath was spacious and very nice. The downside was the service at the buffet venue. The organization was poor. At other Hotels or Ryokans, staying in a suite usually comes with a private room or priority access, but there was nothing like that here. The Room was neither particularly good nor bad, but there were not enough towels.

We’d love to stay here again.

We stayed at the annex “Koshifukitei.” The Room was impeccably clean and beyond reproach. Both the Onsen in the large public bath and the private open-air bath had wonderfully soft water, and we found ourselves wanting to soak forever. Every dish was superb, reflecting the head chef’s careful selection of ingredients, seasoning, and thoughtful pairing with the tableware. Everything was truly delicious. Throughout our stay, the staff in charge of each moment greeted us with warm smiles and exceptionally high-level service, allowing us to enjoy a blissful time.
