This was my first time staying during the Obon holiday, and I was mostly satisfied.
I was surprised that check-in took about 15 minutes in line and then there was a system error, but I think the staff did their very best. Perhaps because there were many international guests, it took a very long time for each person. Since it was crowded during the Obon holidays, I suppose it couldn’t be helped. It’s a bit inconvenient that the Room still doesn’t have USB power outlets. I know this and bring what I need, but if you don’t know in advance, it may feel inconvenient these days. Charging cables are provided in the drawer, but since they’re USB, we wondered where to plug them in. My family searched around the Room but couldn’t find anywhere—haha. We also used the pool. It was busy, but lane rules were followed, and staff properly reminded children if they accidentally entered a swimming lane. Even with guests from many different backgrounds, there was no confusion and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I’d like to use it again; even if there’s a fee, this setup is better. The parking lot was crowded and we were told that if we left once we probably wouldn’t be able to get back in—and that’s exactly what happened. After that we parked at nearby lots, so it seems best to check nearby parking options in advance. The pool has gradually become paid access, and parking has also become paid; with inbound tourism increasing, it feels unavoidable. Breakfast was delicious and very satisfying—there were unique items such as tofu from Nanzen-ji Temple area specialties (yudofu-style), sake lees cheesecake, and tea rice porridge (chagayu). There were many guests of different nationalities and it was crowded, but no one had bad manners. All staff members—both international and Japanese—were polite and kind. This may only be a temporary measure suggestion, but when check-in gets so crowded that lines form, it would help if forms could be handed out so guests can fill them in individually and then wait seated until their name is called. The 12:00 checkout time was also helpful. The one drink at the lounge along with complimentary sweets were both very tasty. The welcome sweets in the Room were Kyoto karinto as well—also extremely delicious. Even though Obon is usually hectic, we were able to relax here. I’d like to stay again. The photos are of seasonal flowers during my morning walk/run to Umekoji Park,以及 chamomile tea and sweets from the lounge during my stay at your property.

Kirakara-cho Room “Silver Moon”
This time I stayed in the Kirakaracho Room “Gingetsu.” I’ve stayed here several times, and I really appreciate the separate layout with a toilet, bath, and washbasin all in individual spaces. I previously stayed in “Kinun,” but “Gingetsu” has a different atmosphere—an elegant, calming Room that leaves a refined impression. The beauty of Karakami paper unique to Kirakaracho is incorporated throughout, making it feel distinct from a typical Hotel Room and allowing you to enjoy an authentic Kyoto ambiance during your stay. Since the major renovation, RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto has been one of my regular choices in Kyoto. The staff are consistently attentive, and it’s a Hotel where I can always stay with peace of mind. It’s close to Kyoto Station and offers Shuttle Service buses, making it convenient for sightseeing and dining. At the same time, once inside the building it feels calm and relaxing, which I also like. I would love to stay again if I have the opportunity.

Second Stay
Second stay... We had high expectations again because the service and meals were great last time, but perhaps due to a busy period, we had to wait over 10 minutes just to check in and over 20 minutes to enter the breakfast venue... This wasn’t the RIHGA Royal Hotel’s fault, but at the buffet we were cut in line even while waiting, and even when we spoke up, we couldn’t communicate in Japanese... I don’t think we’ll be coming back. That said, since our Room was a suite, it was clean and very nice.

Convenient for sightseeing
For our first night in Kyoto, we wanted to go bar-hopping, so we chose the RIHGA Royal Hotel near the station. There is a free Shuttle Service at certain times, but it’s only a 7–8 minute walk. From the welcome to being shown to our Room, the service was excellent. A fully separated bath and toilet is a must for us, so the Japanese-Western style Room was perfect. The bathtub is very spacious—comfortable even for men to stretch out—and it doesn’t take long to fill. Another big plus: two bath towels per person, two face towels per person, and bathrobes provided. The Room was also spotless and very well maintained. We checked out early in the morning, and they kindly accommodated us. It’s a Hotel I’d love to stay at again.

In recent years, it ...
In recent years, it has become less common to find Japanese staff, but the Japanese team members were very kind with the Shuttle Service, front desk, and concierge support. Kyoto is convenient for getting around by bus, so we appreciated the clear explanations of where to board. Personally, I would have felt more relaxed in the Room if the loungewear had been a shirt-style set rather than a yukata; it would be great if guests could choose.

The location was convenient for getting anywhere, and the shuttle bus to the station was very helpful. The Room had a traditional atmosphere, allowing us to fully enjoy this classic Hotel. It was spacious and comfortable.

Family Trip
Thank you for taking care of us on our trip with my daughter. It’s conveniently located close to the station, which makes it very easy to use. Location really matters... The scorching heat in Kyoto... the shuttle bus was a huge help. The stately building and the Room furnishings were wonderful. The Room felt slightly smaller than in Hiroshima, but I truly felt that RIHGA Royal Hotel is a Hotel where you can make a Reservation with peace of mind. I’m sure we’ll stay with you again somewhere in the future.

Hotels with morning newspaper service offer assured quality and are highly recommended!
We enjoyed Top of Kyoto at the end of last year and stayed again during Golden Week. The smoothies and desserts were authentic and delicious. Both the king-size bed room last time and the Japanese-style suite this time were spacious and comfortable.

The Room has an unpleasant odor.
Very disappointing. The bathroom had a strong stale odor that made me feel like I might throw up, so I couldn’t use the Room toilet. I wish they had provided Febreze. I should have checked when they helped carry my luggage up after check-in.

Mornings in Kyoto and a refined moment of relaxation
This was my first stay at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto in the “Regular Floor Suite Twin (Non-Smoking, Bathroom with Washing Area).” The Room was a comfortable size—neither too large nor too small—just right for a pleasant stay. What impressed me most was the breakfast. It truly felt like Kyoto, with a beautiful spread including a wide variety of pickles, Nanzenji tofu, simmered herring, and nama-fu, making for a luxurious morning taste of Kyoto. After getting off the Shinkansen, I also really appreciated the Hotel’s Shuttle Service. The in-house souvenir shop was well stocked as well, offering many uniquely Kyoto items and adding to the enjoyment of bringing home special memories from the trip. It was such a wonderful stay that I would gladly choose this Hotel again when visiting Kyoto.

One of Kyoto’s representative Hotels, and I was able to stay very comfortably. It is also close to the station, so I could browse the souvenir shops around the station without worrying about time. When I travel to Kyoto again, I would like to stay here again.

Satisfied.
While the building itself is undeniably old, it felt well maintained. During this stay, I also had dinner at Top of Kyoto, and I wish there had been a guest discount or special offer.

It was a baby-friendly Hotel.
I stayed here with my daughter and my grandchildren (7 months and 4 years old) for a trip to the Railway Museum. The Japanese-Western style room was spacious enough for our crawling baby to move around comfortably, and the bath was large—there was plenty of room even for all four of us, which made our 4-year-old especially happy. The breakfast area was also relaxed and comfortable. Everything was delicious, with a great variety of fruit, and the kids ate well—we ended up staying longer than planned. Even the baby happily ate tofu. All of the staff were kind and helpful, and we truly appreciated their care.

As it was a good-val...
As it was a good-value Plan, I had no particular complaints. I think the service quality is good. The Facility shows some signs of age, and since the area is surrounded by buildings, depending on the Room’s location and orientation, being on the top floor isn’t necessarily that important. I went to the breakfast venue on the first floor, but my impression might have been different if I had gone up to the rooftop. For those planning a Multiple Night Stay, I don’t think there will be any issues with overall comfort during your stay.

Room service is available...
I ordered room service, but they wouldn’t bring it into the Room. Is that how it is these days? They knocked instead of using the doorbell, and when I opened the door, the bellboy just stood there and did nothing. After I finished eating, there was no guidance on what to do—they simply handed me the tray. The Room itself was good. There was no brush or comb in the amenities. I didn’t feel like calling, so I managed with my fingers. I never expected it to be missing, so it’s important to check. The hair dryer had strong airflow, which was a plus. There was no ice machine on the 10th-floor executive level, so I had to go downstairs. Breakfast at the revolving observation restaurant had a nice view, but the plate lacked color and was mostly leafy salad. A nearby breakfast for around 2,000 yen would have been far more satisfying. The salted croissant and milk bread were delicious. The service at the 1st-floor lounge we stopped by on our way out was good. The parking staff were very polite and helpful. Overall, it wasn’t so much an issue with the facilities as with the service—my stay fell short mainly on that front.

It became a wonderful memory.
Although we live in Osaka, on this trip to Kyoto I stayed one night at a relaxed pace with my elderly mother so she could see her grandchild who lives alone in Kyoto. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station—perfect for a stroll—and if you have luggage, the shuttle bus gets you there in no time, so the location is excellent. It’s also very convenient when you want to do a bit of shopping during your stay. We picked up our grandchild and had breakfast at the panoramic restaurant. Even though they are now a Kyoto resident, they were delighted by the sweeping city view from a height they don’t usually get to see. The atmosphere inside was elegant, and we were all very satisfied. (It would have been perfect if the set menu portions were a little larger.) The Room was spotless, and we also appreciated the attentive service from the staff. It felt like great value for the price—truly what you’d expect from the RIHGA Royal brand.

It was average, for better or worse.
I have often used the restaurant, but this was my first stay, so I made a Reservation for a slightly larger Room. Given the location, I understand it can’t be helped, but the view from the window was just an old building and felt uninspiring, and I didn’t find the Room itself particularly appealing. The coffee machine provided was also awkward to use—it required inserting a plastic bottle to fill it with water. I wished it had been a more standard type. Breakfast was also underwhelming. I chose the revolving restaurant on the top floor, but nothing stood out. If you are promoting Kyoto, even with a French base I felt there could have been different menu options. One of the reasons I chose this restaurant was for the view as well, but that too was disappointing. Of course impressions will vary depending on where you are seated, and the scenery changes slightly over time, but hoping to dine at a seat with at least a better view, I arrived right when breakfast service started—only to be shown to a table facing nothing but the rust-stained exterior wall of a nearby building. If I had come later and other guests were already seated so only less desirable tables remained, that would have made sense—but since I arrived at opening time, it left me feeling somewhat disappointed. The positives were that one male staff member treated me very courteously as I was leaving the restaurant, and that I was able to stay on a good-value Plan.

Multiple Night Stay
The shuttle bus runs only during limited hours, but it was convenient when we had a lot of luggage, and when we didn’t, the walk was just right. All the Hotel staff were pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast offered a great variety of pickles, plus local specialties like tofu and obanzai (I was happy there was fu every day), along with small desserts and Western-style options, so I enjoyed it each morning. The revolving restaurant also had a great view. The Hotel itself seemed to be used often by English-speaking tour groups. With the email newsletter subscription commemorative Plan, we stayed on the Executive Floor and received tickets to enjoy one drink and mini sweets; I was glad that several small sweets came on one plate. It was also nice that we could choose between this or a drink at the bar. Coin lockers at Kyoto Station can be full depending on the location, so it was convenient that the Hotel could send our luggage or store it for us. The Hotel wasn’t overly large and felt comfortable—I’d like to stay again.

The meals at Kaza were terrible.
Made a Reservation for the 7:30 PM seating. The front desk recommended it, so I decided to visit. When I made the Reservation, I was told that a group would be coming at that time and asked if it would be okay even though it might get noisy, so I agreed. However, it wasn’t noisy at all—yet the food service operation was terrible. It started out delicious, but once the group arrived everything became rushed and sloppy. The spaghetti was undercooked, and they couldn’t keep up with refilling items. Even the foreign tour group guests were clearly upset. If they knew a group was coming, couldn’t they have prepared better? I was truly impressed by the meals on my previous stay, and the staff service was excellent as well, so I made this Reservation because I definitely wanted to come again. This time was extremely disappointing. The price did not match the operation quality, and it left me with a very unpleasant experience.

Breakfast buffet
I’ve never experienced food where none of it tasted good. I can’t understand why. Even the broccoli was watery... It was the worst I’ve ever had. I wonder if the person who made it actually tried it—I’d like them to taste it themselves. The Room was clean and I was very satisfied, which makes it all the more disappointing... It was disappointing, and honestly baffling.

Perfect for a family get-together!
During our one-night stay, I invited my daughter and her child who live in Takatsuki, and we spent time together at Royal until the evening. First, we ordered afternoon tea in the cafe lounge, and the sweets were so cute and beautifully presented that I was thrilled the moment they arrived. After a fun and delicious tea time, we relaxed in our Room. It was very spacious—our little one could toddle around happily, and it felt quiet enough that we didn’t need to worry about disturbing neighboring Rooms. The bell staff around the lobby were excellent. I asked both female and male staff to store our luggage, asked questions about room service, and also asked where the convenience store was—everyone was polite and exceptionally kind. It really felt like “Royal” quality. The exterior does show its age a bit, but inside everything was clean throughout, perhaps thanks to ongoing renovations. I also appreciated the 2:00 PM check-in time, and the extended 12:00 PM check-out with IKYU Diamond Service—it made this a great place to truly relax.

We had a great time.
Thank you for your courteous service; we had a very comfortable stay. However, the Room floor and refrigerator were dirty, so we cleaned them ourselves before using them. There was quite a bit of hair and debris on the floor and in the refrigerator, so we would appreciate it if you could clean more thoroughly.

My sister and I stayed here to celebrate her 60th birthday. The service and the meals were wonderful. It made us feel a little luxurious, and we were filled with happiness. My sister was truly delighted, and I was very happy too. Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality, including preparing sweets in our Room for the celebration. We made another wonderful memory together. Thank you so much to all the staff.

Five-Story Pagoda and Shinkansen View
Because I place great importance on the view from the Room, I made a Reservation as it seemed like a corner Room where I could fully enjoy the scenery. When I first entered the Room, there was a building directly in front of me and I was slightly disappointed. However, as I walked further in, I was able to see a five-story pagoda that truly felt like Kyoto. It was also an impressive train-view Room where I could watch both the Shinkansen and local lines. I feel you could promote this wonderful view even more—it would be an amazing sight for international guests. The service had the reassuring quality you would expect from a long-established Hotel, and the Facility was clean and well maintained. Despite my high level of satisfaction, the price felt very reasonable. In fact, this is a valuable Hotel where you can enjoy this level of satisfaction at this price point. Because the view from my Room was so nice, I upgraded breakfast to room service by paying the difference. However, it felt expensive for what it offered, so it would have been even better if that could be improved a bit.

I wish I had been informed in advance that IKYU Diamond member benefits would not be available. The breakfast venue was small, and the Japanese dishes were crowded together, so I couldn’t relax and fully enjoy Kyoto’s flavors.

A Room the Whole Family Can Enjoy Across Three Generations
The Japanese-Western style Room was convenient for a three-generation trip. The tatami area felt smaller once the futons were laid out, but the entryway and closet area were spacious, which was great. The bathtub was also large and comfortable. The staff were kind, especially the shuttle bus driver. Our child seemed to enjoy riding the bus, and it turned into a wonderful trip. Breakfast was a delicious buffet. It was disappointing to find dust on the bay window ledge and phone in the Room, but we were satisfied with everything else and would like to stay again.

The Room is small.
We stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room of 50 m² or more with four people, but the futons were already laid out, leaving nowhere to sit. It seems to have been renovated, but there is a lot of wasted space and it feels no different from a Room of about 20 m². Who designed this layout? The bathroom is unnecessarily large, but there is no space to relax, so I cannot recommend this Room.

Only disappointing, third-rate Hotel reviews.
[Overall] I don’t think I will ever return. This is a well-known Hotel in Japan, but honestly I was disappointed. Even at double the usual rate during cherry blossom season, the quality of service did not match—perhaps a textbook example. [Dining] Breakfast was at the revolving restaurant on the 14th floor, but we were seated at a table still left with leftovers from previous guests, and even the staff member who escorted us didn’t notice. It suggests that basic attention and checks by Hotel staff are not being carried out. During a Multiple Night Stay, the menu did not change at all, so I would like to see more creativity. [Pool / Sauna] This was by far the worst. There were many issues that felt wrong on a level beyond simple aging of the Facility. First, several staff members were unnecessarily gathered around the reception area, chatting as if they had nothing to do while “welcoming” guests. Overall circulation is poor, and even in the changing lockers area some curtains were left fluttering open—an odd space. We were told to dry swimsuits using a two-tub washing machine for staff use (and there were times it couldn’t be used because something was already inside). Generally speaking, Hotels with pools provide a dedicated swimsuit spin dryer for guests—are you saying you can’t even purchase one? (It’s comparable to telling guests to eat in an employee cafeteria, yet it seems the Hotel doesn’t even recognize how inappropriate this is.) Although closing time is 21:00, last admission is 19:00—far too early. Does this mean you don’t want guests to use it? In the morning, allowing only pool and gym use while shutting down the men’s bath/sauna is also hard to understand. (And it apparently isn’t operating around midday either—mysterious for a Hotel.) Even though we entered specifically to use the pool, staff had already drained all water from the jacuzzi and started cleaning about 1.5 hours before closing. Despite having time on their hands, announcements/operations weren’t communicated properly. Most Hotels clean after facilities close; here they began closing procedures without considering guest usage. I don’t think management—including the general manager—understands what appropriate oversight and service should look like. Also, a timer by poolside remained stopped; it’s unclear whether it was broken or intentional (does no one notice?). [Room] Smaller than expected. Even though it’s an executive floor Room, it’s around 20 m² and even the bed is narrow. The shower room/plumbing layout only works if you keep doors closed; overall it feels cramped. I stayed knowing what I was getting into, but everything feels old overall.
