Skilled in traditional ink-line marking, Heikichi was known locally as “Sumiya no Hei-san” (“Hei from the ink shop”). From this nickname came the house name Tanpei, later renamed “Tanpei,” and it has since been operated as the oldest Accommodation in Tango Town to this day. The spirit of hospitality of “Sumiya no Hei-san” has been passed down through six generations and continues today.

Yanagawa is a beautiful water city where 930 km of canals, unchanged since the Edo period, spread throughout the town and boats glide by. The Tachibana family has long stood alongside Yanagawa’s history. During the Edo period, Ohana began as a villa of the Tachibana family, lords of the Yanagawa Domain. From the Western-style building constructed in the Meiji era as an authentic guesthouse, you pass through to a grand 100-tatami hall—beyond which lies a magnificent garden composed solely of pine trees. With the renewal of our accommodation wing, we are being reborn as a space where you can more fully enjoy the appeal of cultural properties still preserved by descendants of this former daimyo family. Situated on a 5,000-tsubo property, Tsutsujitei features approximately 3,000 tsubo of natural forest transformed into a rustic garden. Kaiseki Yado Shiosato was established in 1953 and has been operating as a Ryokan in this Banshu region for many years. Starting as a very small Ryokan with only 3 Rooms at the time of its founding, we have gradually grown with the support of our local guests. In 2003, marking our 50th anniversary, we underwent a complete renovation and have since been operating as a Property with 11 Rooms. Today, we welcome not only local guests but also many visitors from other prefectures through introductions and recommendations. Shiosato is still in the process of growth. We will continue striving to be a Property where guests can feel our daily evolution.

A small and serene ryokan, "Ashikari," nestled in a quiet mountain area of 2,000 tsubo, offers warm hospitality in a traditional sukiya-style setting. The kaiseki cuisine, featuring the finest seasonal ingredients, is highly acclaimed by food connoisseurs. Guests can choose from elegantly designed standard rooms or newly built rooms with open-air hot spring baths on spacious decks, all offering breathtaking views of the surrounding natural landscape for a truly relaxing stay. The newly established dining area facing a rustic moss garden filled with the sounds of babbling streams and chirping insects is also highly praised for its wine selection that perfectly complements the kaiseki dishes.

Ryokan Takechiyo Kirishima Bekkan is nestled among the serene mountains of Kirishima, offering heartfelt relaxation through Onsen and cuisine.

The Yugawara Onsen area, celebrated even in the ancient Manyoshu anthology, is renowned as a place where high-quality Onsen waters flow. Surrounded by famous hot springs, scenic views of the sea and mountains, and abundant local ingredients, it has long been cherished as a destination for leisure and relaxation. In particular, from the mid-Meiji period, many literary figures such as Doppo Kunikida, Natsume Soseki, Akiko Yosano, and Junichiro Tanizaki visited, fostering its development as a place for creativity and camaraderie. The history of Fujiya Ryokan is long-standing, with records indicating that its predecessor, an Onsen inn, existed as far back as the late Edo period. In fact, buildings from the end of the Edo era remained until 1968. According to the "Yugawara Guide" published in 1918, Fujiya Ryokan began as an Onsen Ryokan in 1876, and at the time, it was poetically named "Shuhoen." Crossing the Nagahashi Bridge over the Fujiki River, visitors would find a spacious property with pavilions and annexes, where flowers bloomed year-round. During the Meiji era, Fujiya Ryokan, Itoya Ryokan, Nakanishi Ryokan, and Amanoya were said to have formed a beautiful landscape with their main buildings, annexes, and other structures nestled amidst rich natural surroundings and gardens.

In the heart of this charming Onsen town lies Nishimuraya Honkan. Passing through the grand traditional gate, you are greeted by the faint aroma of incense. The 34 Rooms face the garden, showcasing the serene beauty of Japanese-style aesthetics. In addition to the private bathrooms in each Room, there are large communal baths and open-air baths, each with unique designs, including the Azumaya-style "Yoshinoyu" nestled in a bamboo grove and the Chinese pavement-style "Fukunoyu."
