The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa by HULIC is a Hotel renovated from the former Mototatsusei Elementary School building. It features sophisticated, distinctive guest rooms, an exclusive “Lounge & Patio” for guests, and an open restaurant on the top floor with panoramic views of the Higashiyama mountain range. While preserving the atmosphere of the former school building, the Hotel actively incorporates traditional and local culture, aiming to grow together with the community. Access: 3 minutes on foot from Hankyu Kyoto Line “Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station,” and 5 minutes on foot from Keihan Main Line “Gion-Shijo Station.”
This was my first stay, and I was very satisfied with this friendly Hotel. It is a wonderful Hotel where I would definitely like to stay again next time.I was happy with everything—service, the Room, the view, the atmosphere, and access—but above all, the breakfast was delicious across the board and left me completely full from the morning.They also helped arrange a surprise for my partner’s birthday, which truly moved us. We look forward to staying again next time.

After staying twice at The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon, time passed, and we were finally able to stay at the Takasegawa Gate Hotel, which we had long wanted to visit. Both my mother and I were deeply moved by the thoughtful hospitality; the high level of service was just as wonderful as when we stayed in Kaminarimon. Breakfast was even more delicious than expected, and we were also impressed by the attentiveness of the young staff.

Lounge & Patio is a calm, welcoming space that blends the timeless inspiration of the former Rissei Elementary School with a modern sensibility. In the morning, it serves as a quiet lounge for personal time; in the afternoon, as a place for reading or meetings; and in the evening, it opens as a bar. At sunset, we light a bonfire in the patio and offer a marshmallow-roasting experience. A curated selection from Rissei Library is displayed on the shelves—feel free to pick up a book and enjoy some reading time. In the evening, savor comfortable conversation with free-flow house wine, accompanied by the gentle flicker of the flames.

Here, guests can step away from everyday life and spend time in stillness. In addition to experiences that encourage quiet focus—such as sutra copying—events may also be held where you can encounter Noh chanting and dance.
